susan - I just told my hub about adding a big pink hat to my tattoo...hilarious!!!!

...and actually looking down, my tattoo is smaller, it goes off the side of my pinky toe bone, like on a slant up my foot, and actually it's only about 2 inches, I obviously have trouble measuring!!! ;-)

Susan...OMG that is both horrifying and hilarious.I don't think most people mean harm and are trying to "relate" the only way they know how — by sharing any story they know about anyone they know who has ever had any kind of cancer. Yup, SO relatable!

Megan, don't be too hard on yourself. Maybe that woman will go get a mammo now after hearing you had BC. Stranger things have happened...! ;-)

Speaking of sharing - I probably haven't told more than 6 people.  What do you think about dropping it on everyone in my annual Christmas letter?  Not!!

I am looking for a swimsuit that will cover my te's and the scars on the sides from drains. Have any of you found a brand or style that looks good and is comfortable? My te's project out quite a bit kind of like baseballs so the triangle type tops look silly and won't even sit flat on my skin! Also, do you think the same top will fit post-exchange? Probably not?

redsky - I just went through the ever-annoying job of finding a swim suit.  I must have tried on 25-plus suits.  I finally went to Victoria's Secret today, tried on 2 piece suits and then went home and ordered online.  They are having a pretty decent sale right now, too!  I tried on my suit from last year with TE's over the winter and yes, I'm afraid they just don't look all-to natural, BUT when you have implants it will be different.  I would suggest getting a suit to get you "through" the time you have till exchange.  Then after treat yourself to a new one, I went with VS because alot of suits I tried on I needed a different sized top/bottoms.  I like two pieces, and there were also some cute tankini's that weren't so "showy", I'm not into the butt-baring bottoms, either, so I find it hard to walk into a store and "find" a suit...  It was easier to just pick the style I like, get the color and the size and not worry about sifting thru the racks to find it at Marshall's which I did and had zero luck with!

As far as style, I like halter-tops, yes, they might not sit flat with TE's, but they are the most flattering  for me post-exchange...now I just need to stick with the gym and low-carb diet to fit into these suckers!!! Tongue out

Ok I am never going to get all of this in one post....what happened yesterday - a firestorm of replies!!!

First, you guys are simply awesome.  I think someday (or it may have to be a little more regional) we should all get together and do a walk TOGETHER.  'nuf said.

The recliner thing - thanks and youre probably right...my left will definitely be more traumatized than the right.  Im ready for the recliner if I have to....now Ill have to call my kids to pop the button so the leg supports come up!  I dont think Ill be able to exert enough pressure!

Tattoo - yes I was going to get a simple pink ribbon over my right one but then thought about covering the bruise.  DH is totally behind me.  We'll see if I chicken out!! Megan how cool about your tattoo...what a great idea for you and your DH to do it together!!!!

Oh and so I saw the neighborhood gals today for lunch.  I havent seen my neighbor with the augmentation since right after her surgery, and havent seen my BFF or the other gal in a few weeks....I literally said "please stop looking at my boob" to my BFF!!  I could see her eyes looking every chance she got...LOL!!!!!   It probably looks HUGE to her since I had 2 fills since I saw her last and I was in a light summery top.  Then I got "well, your new facebook picture looks like youre showing them off!!!"  Ok, so it must be pretty noticable now!! LOL  Neighbor with the augmentation looks great.  Maybe she couldve gone bigger but she looks really quite natural now.  I was surprised how much drop and fluff she has already.  She said she is feeling great now.

I dont really care who knows but then I am not working and havent lived here very long.  MOST people have been really casual about it...maybe taking my cue.  Few people have been annoyingly too much.  Going forward, I dont think I need to talk about it anymore.

And I bought a swimsuit that is a tankini and the top is a halter...it looked great on me two fills ago.  I am undecided whether to keep it and hope it looks good after exchange.

Oh and now that PS is doing the surgery, there is the opportunity to fly to San Antonio to have him do the nipple.  We need to start a thread of things you never thought would come out of your mouth....hows this one?  (To my BFF today) "So what do you think about a girls trip to San Antonio so I can get a nipple?"  (BFF says) "That would be a GREAT trip!  Id love to see how your nipple comes out!" (I say back) "Did you just listen to what we just said???"

I went with a full C (750cc) which was bigger than my other breast (the ones that tried to kill me).  I am real happy I went with the full C.  I had the transfer in Sep '10 and have yet to wear a bra.  There is just no need to wear one and it is great.  The only issue is they seem to be drifting towards my arm pits.  So I guess maybe I need to wear a bra but just enjoying the freedom for a bit.

Sounds odd but my new breast are a lot better looking then my old ones.  I am 47 and after having a baby they started migrating downward 15 years ago. Whatever you do be happy and have fun with it.  Look at this as an opportunity to get the breast you always wanted but might not have gotten.

Megan, Thanks for the swimsuit ideas. The VS options sound good. Do the retail stores stock swimwear?

Yesterday I sifted thru Marshall's and actually found a tankini by La Blanca that has fabric layers around the bust area in kind of a bandeau style that works ok. It sticks out off my breastbone a little unnaturally, but works. I was concerned about a  deep v-top for me as I want to avoid getting a sunburn on the sensitive skin between my breasts. My skin is already stretched to the brink and cannot take any trauma before E-day!

Red I put this on another thread but I kept the tankini....It has a halter top but it has a sports-bra sort of deal going on underneath.  My TE sits OK in it now but I think both will sit in there after the PS evens out wheremy lower pole is.  Using only minimal imagination, I hope I drop and fluff enough that it looks even better after exchange.  I hope to be swimming by the end of July and have a decent amount of dropping and fluffing by then too.  Its made by Nautica and I got it at TJMaxx for 29 instead of 99 dollars.

Sue- Your suit sounds cute, and I bet you'll be able to use it after your exchange. What instructions has your ps given you for pre-op and post-op? Will you have to wear a surgical bra afterwards? Oh, maybe you haven't had your pre-op yet- let us know what you find out.

I wont see PS at pre-op....just anesthesia and such I believe.  PS told me I will get a velcro-front surgical bra that I will have to wear for a couple of weeks and then can go to a sports bra if I want to.  But I have no further post op instructions other than the same restrictions apply.  No lifting or exercising....no driving until off pain meds.  But I will keep you posted.  One week from today is pre-op!

Rennasus - OMG yes....one week from tomorrow.  These days are FLYING by!  Now I spend my days looking at and rubbing my TE....I think "am I going to be happy with this size (minus 100ccs)?" "will this loosen up enough in another week?"  "Should I go a little bigger?"  My husband shakes his head everytime I bring up my boobs now.  Think Im a little obsessed?  My BFF made a comment the other day that she thought our neighbor shouldve gone bigger with her augmentation....now I want to ask her if she thinks the same of me!!!  By the way, I know the TE is different from the implants, but as of right now (and yes another obsession of mine is measuring) I am measuring a 32D...Oh come on, really?  I dont think I look any bigger than a B.   I dont think I look big at all!

SuebeeBC I too am second guessing. I had told BS I wanted to be a full B now I'm wondering about a small C. I for sure don't want to be as big as I am now… but my husband thinks I look great this size. Too funny. I see my PS at pre-op Wednesday. Last chance for me to go a little bigger. Surgery on the 24th for me.

Lago - at my last appt we tried on the 350 on the good side ONE MORE TIME.  He worked it so it looked as close to what the end result will be and said "are you happy with this size?"  My husband wasnt there this time but this was the third try-on and I said "Yes, as long as it works with the rest of me"....meaning does the hood match the trunk?  and he responded "you are going to look GREAT".  So I have to trust that it will all work out.  I KNOW I will go through the thoughts that I shoudve gone bigger...but as my husband said last night, "yeah you could go bigger but then that would possibly bring up other issues".  Hmm....yeah.  Trouble finding the right bra size?  Being too big for certain styles?  Small shirts puckering on me and having to go up a size?  I am trying to remember that all I really wanted to was to look like the new girls BELONG on this body.  I think the Full B or Small C will look just fine.  HOPING!!!!

Suebee I'm thinking that maybe I want to be just a little bigger than I was in a push-up bra (granted not a lot to push up with the old natural girls). Right now my tee shirts pull/tight in the breast area. Ha I never in my life thought I would have that happen. I know for sure I don't want to be as big as I am in TEs.

So when is your date again?

Yeah Lago - know I am overfilled and all (and presuming I am fluffing the good side well) - all of my small T's are puckering in front.  Never thought Id see it. And its actually a little embarrasing!  I saw my friends the other day and I had to ask my friend to stop looking at my TE because I was feeling VERY self conscious!!!  Having been on stage for 15 years with my teenie A's, NOW I feel insecure about it being 'out there'!!!

My date is the 13th!!! I can't believe it!

Hey ladies, three days out from my exchange. I told my doc I wanted to look the same, but better. I just tried on my old bras and I look almost the same as before BC. I was hoping they would be bigger, or project out more than my TE's, but surprisingly they are a bit smaller than my pre-cancer self. I know it still needs to drop and fluff, but I can't imagine them projecting out anymore they are.

I was looking through the picture forum and had I done better research, would have chosen an implant with the highest projection. My body really swallowed up the implants - in fact, the PS put in 100cc's more than I thought he would. I am still a C cup with 650ccs.

Renn...I dont' have any of the finishing touches....after my 2nd revision and I was fairly happy with results, I talked to PS about the finishing touches...both PS and his nurse suggested that I not do anything as they felt it would not be good results....so I am happy with just the implants....in clothes which is all that I really care about, I look decent...

Sue - your date is fast-approaching!!!  I get the feeling of being "out there". There are still many times I feel like that, not that I look huge, but it's different...especially with all the summer clothes that show 'em off!  I am still struggling with letting it all "hang out" in a bathing suit! ;-) I had an old friend for dinner this weekend, she has known me since we were kids and we are or rather were, I should say, the same bra size.  She couldn't believe how much more proportional I am now.  Even though I feel larger ('cuz I am) I don't look that way to others who don't know.  Hang in there, once you have exchange and things aren't so "stiff" you will feel more natural!

Lago - if I haven't mentioned it, yahooo for having an exchange date!!!

I kind of used the same rule of thumb when thinking what size I wanted to end up. A few weeks before exchange I changed my mind from 400 to 450's.  I wear regular T-shirt bras most of the time and don't feel the need for the 'push-up' bras I used to wear.  I did buy one after exchange and have yet to wear it.  I just don't feel I need it, which I am happy about now.  If I ever want to wear a slinky dress and go out with the hub, I'll be all set, but I must say being able to look good in an 'average-non-padded' bra with my regular clothes is a pretty great thing now, a total change from pre-bc days for me!

Megan I love to hear from you....like "tales from the other side".   I didnt really 'choose' a 450 (and believe it or not the PS suggested 450 in the beginning and I scoffed)....but after trying a 350 on the good side, I was like "yeah, ok, match that".  So who knows what will be on the other side!!!As for being 'out there'....um, yeah I can balance a CUP on my TE!!!  I was showing my DH my stupid TE tricks last night!  Look!  A coaster! LOL

I cant WAIT for this foolish thing to be GONE!  Forget about how tight it is, how it feels like I have a tennis ball in my armpit or how I keep bonking it everywhere....its PURPLE its so tight.  Is this normal?  Jeesh I need to look again at the photo forum.  Ive always had a reddish-purpley hue to it where the port was but now its across the whole upper area....PS says I look great so I have to trust that.  Maybe its because Im so fair and its so stretched.  I expressed my opinons about it and PS said "It means youre ready for exchange!!!"  Well, YEAH!

    HI everyone,

I am new to this discussion group and need some advice/help.

Suebee,   I don't think getting purple is normal- would indicate that some bruising has occurred but probably not a big deal.  How many cc's is your plastic surgeon puttig in each time,  perhaps PS needs to decrease the amount .  One time after  a saline injection into TE  -area in middle of TE got yellow then blue.  PS said it was due to bruising deep and then rising to surface.  No problems since then.

I need help from some of you more experienced ladies.  I had a mastectomy on one side and decided to wait on a breast reduction to the other side until I finish the chemo, possible radiation they might do to the breast that has the tissue expander in it.  I have always needed a breast reduction.  Was a 34 DD when I was 18 and guess what happened after breast feeding 2 children.  I tried to get my insurance company about 10 years ago to pay for a breast reduction due to back pain symptoms,  indents in shoulders, rashes, etc.  They said no and referred me to  physical  therapy for the "back pain."  Total  BS on their part.  Then I got breast cancer this year and they will have to pay for it now. This is not how I envisioned getting a breast reduction.  My PS says after all the treatments he will do the exchange and the breast reduction on the other side.  The question is how small to go on that side. I think that anything smaller than a C I would feel wierd but I certainly am tired of having very large cup size breasts and dresses etc not fitting cause I am a size 6/ 8 on bottom.    Does anyone have experience with getting a reduction on one side and an implant on the other.  Do I have to worry about the breast which will be reduced drooping and not looking at all the same as implant?   I am still getting expanded.  Thanks for info

I have an implant with alloderm on one side,

Breast reduction with aggressive lift on the other side.

I have a good match-but not exact.  Best symmetry would be with a bilateral reconstruction,or a DIEP Flap--Of course, this is a lot more surgery

My implant is not comfortable--am looking forward to fatgrafting--I believe, I should achieve a more symmetric look with more comfort.

    Good Luck, Eileen
