Ooooh thats what happens when I eat dinner in the middle of typing a post!
I really need to start seeing America! Ive see the east coast and a couple of work-related trips to cities otherwise, but I have seen embarrasingly little of the USA. I guess its time to get on that now!

our cross-country travels were before kids, when we were just happy young, hippy kids exploring the country! My hub and I got married, waited a year and saved money, traveled for the two months or so by car, we stayed at hostels, national parks and some amazing places in-between. Then we came home and I was pregnant!...so we've traveled only the east coast since then. My hub works year-round so vacay isn't too easy now, but we do our best to make it fun. This summer we are staying pretty local, taking our camper only about 5 to 7 hour trips max travels, but will head out for about an overall 2-3 weeks of getaways. Lotsa long wknds. Not the same carefree ways of our youth, but great times just the same, just a whole lot more planning with the kids!

Sue - where you have seen many places around the world, I haven't been any further than Cancun!!! (which, in all reality doesn't really count when you are a half-drunk college student!!!) I have seen somewhere close to 40 states, but have not been out of the country, I haven't seen Europe yet! I have a lot of places I would love to see outside the US, but have no idea when that 'might' happen! You have some amazing adventures under your belt, that's pretty amazing!0

Megan Im surprised....living in the north east, I found plane tickets to Ireland and England were cheaper than CA or many other places in the US So my 2 month hosteling, backpacking thing was in Europe - well, prices overseas were also way cheap!!! My husband's job did the rest. We HAVE had some great experiences and we've been lucky...Id like to see some of this country's offerings! 40 states? Thats fantastic!!!! Ya know, the more places Ive been though, the more I miss the Northeast!!! We've only been here a year and 1/2 and I have itchy feet already! I better get on that job so I can afford the travel bug!

Ladies, my healing is still not healed. Guess I am not surprised. Steri-strips fell off this AM. I could not see what was underneath, so I was hoping it was all healed. Nope. Yellow/green spot still there.
See photos on pic forum: BMX with TE; delayed healing

Rennasus ~ I'm so sorry your healing is taking so long! I'm sure you've already gotten plenty of advice on vitamin supplements, etc. I will send lots of positive healing thoughts your way!

40 states! That's so awesome, Megan! Wow, you and Sue have done a lot of traveling! My sisters both did that after college (one did the youth hostel Europe thing ~ the other taught English in Japan) ..me? I met my DH at age 19 in college. So I wasn't interested in solo trips at that point ... all our adventures have been fairly local..'cept we did manage a trip to France, Spain, Portugal in our youth (he proposed to me in Paris ). Maybe someday we'll have the time/money to travel more!0

Thanks, Susan! I'm in protein and vitamin city over here! I see the PS Tuesday. Fingers crossed.
I love driving cross-country and have done it 4 times so far. I think northern route, NY-CA is prettiest ... mountains start out low and round and end massive and jagged and spill into the ocean. Southern route CA-VA is amazing through the deserts of CA, AZ, NM, especially at sundown. Did not like Texas: too long!

OK, just posted a new pic on the forum, not sure what it means...

Renn, Better check with your doctor to be safe!
Not a lot to report. I have 5 weeks til my exchange surgery so things have gotten quiet for me.
Lately had a big discussion w/ my DH and he wishes this long process would just be over. He can't relate to the weight I am putting into my physical outcome of reconstruction. He thinks things are going smoothly and I am going to look great. He is worried that I will not ever be satisfied with my results. DH then said he was impressed with how I handled the cancer aspect and now thinks I am being too concerned about the superficial aspects of getting new breasts. On top of this, he is a testicular cancer survivor and lost one side so he wants me to realize he does have some understanding of losing a body part. It feels like I am being judged by him right now. I tell him that I find similarities with you all on the bc.org boards and I am reacting in a pretty normal way. I warned him about the experience some women go thru post-exchange with some depression/disappointment and also really are interested in wearing pretty bras that fit just right. I don't expect anyone who hasn't been through this to completely relate I just hope for compassion and kindness!

redskyatnight How many people are going to notice that your guy lost one side? I remember I once dated a guy who had one side that didn't descend. If he hadn't mentioned it I doubt I would have noticed. Not to belittle what your guy went through, and not that I can understand his loss but breasts our pretty much out front and center with no penis to hide behind.
When we talk about guys having balls or big balls we are talking theoretically not physically. Not so theoretical with breast.
Finally everyone does deal with loss differently.

RedSky ~ I'm sorry your hubby doesn't quite understand fully...like lago said... everyone deals with loss differently. Just know you have many women here that can relate.
Okay guys...so I did it. I went and got professionaly fitted at Nordstrom. The lady was very nice and professional. She measured my ribcage...took a look at me in my VS bra and said I was probably about a C or D cup (this just by looking at me!) ...so she brings in 2 lovely unlined lace Chantelle underwire (says they like to use that brand/style for fitting because they are really true to size) .. puts the D on me first and the damn thing fits like a glove. She proceeds to bring me about 20 more bras to try on and sure enough...every 34D fits perfectly. She says I'm a "perfect" 34D.... and that size is their most common size.
So now that I have gone through the whole D denial bit....I started doing some researching. Yeah, we may not have the "projection"...but if we FIT in a D bra...we are the same size as a non BC reconstruction D bra person. I'm still not buying this.. "I measure a D , but I look like a B" thing.
You know what I'm thinking? Is that we (a lot of society) rarely get professionaly fitted and don't really KNOW what the hell a REAL b, c, d looks like. The few people I found that had been professionally fitted at Nordstrom ALL said they ended up smaller band and bigger cup size than they thought they were. Then I found this article on the internet.... entitiled "America's denial of larger-cup bras". { click here }
The article basically talks about how the US has this perception that anything over a D is huge. She even posts a pic showing someone who is an actual DD (below).
I would have guessed that lady was a C at the most! And she is NOT a BC reconstruction patient. So it's not just that we look smaller because we are reconstructed? ...do most of us just have a skewed idea of what a B,C, D, etc actually looks like? Is it because everybody runs around in heavily padded bras anymore?! Was I probably a C before BC and didn't realize it? And what the hell am I gonna do about this thread title!!!!!!!!!
By the way, I bought 3 bras. 2 Chantelle's (SO expensive, but lovely and fit like a glove..and one DKNY).
~ Susan (who is currently wearing an unlined lace 34D bra at work for the first time in her life)

Susan I have a feeling I was wearing the wrong bra size but that I was really a 36A not a 34B before this. We'll see what happens after the exchange.0

I've been unable to get on here for a couple days, my laptop crapped out and I am on my phone right now, but I had to chime in....Susan- you did it! Welcome to the "I swear I'm a C but measure a D club!!!". It is crazy how measurements can sound so big, but in reality don't look it. I'm going to read your link in a bit. And looking at the pic of that girl above, she almost looks bigger than me and I'm a DD! I got my sis in law to head over to Nordies for a fitting. What I've learned from all this stuff is I sure was wearing the wrong size pre-bc and in chatting with friends (non bc) I think they are wearing the wrong size, too! I am glad you got fitted and are feeling snug in your Chantelles! They are beautiful, aren't they? I think I'm wearing one right now!
Sue, thinking of you!!!0 -
I agree Megan! They say that most of us are going around wearing the wrong bra (I think I read somewhere that 80% of women are wearing the wrong size.) So I guess what I think looks like a full B, small C..was actually a D cup all along! I'm thinking I may have actually been a C cup before BC? And yes.. the Chantelle's are quite beautiful! I keep pulling open my shirt and taking a peek. And I'm at my office!!! Though everyone here "knows me" , so they probably wouldn't be too shocked! lol! ... I also bid on a couple of 'em on ebay already! Still can't get over that the same darn one I have on that cost $68... can possibly be had for $20?!? Mind boggling!

SUSAN it IS mind boggling!!!! Anyone going to stay small - D cup??? So glad you went for that fitting...mustve felt great. I dont think I was wrong about my size before however....flat is flat! LOL But Ive been noticing friends boobs lately - gee imagine that - and I could tell you who I think is measuring themselves wrong! Because if THAT lady is a DD, then my BFF is an F.
Red - Im so sorry about your guy. Thats a tough one but youre right...we have a bond together out here and its nice to have you all who understand. I tell my DH about you guys all of the time. He is even 'on board' with me meeting up with Megan when we go on vacation. Hopefully yours was having a bad day and will come back around.
Well Im sporting my LOVELY surgical bra right now and just loving it!!!! Actually it IS making it easier on me than my 'girls on the loose' last time. The tightness helps with getting up and down but not with breathing. I feel like I am having a mini asthma attack when I lie down.
SO I finally feel right now that the surgery drugs wore off. I was so out of it this afternoon. PS suggested the recliner for tonight which I have no problem with. I can shower tomorrow if I want to....Ill see how I feel. He has no problem with me getting to NH for the services which is great too. But he was pretty stern about the lifting and exercising. Im going to be pretty strict with myself too. I dont want healing issues again!
Oh and here's the big news. I got my Implant ID card here. Ohhhh, does it get a passport too? Kidding. Drumroll please.....I got the 350 on the good side as we knew - and a 475 on the right. Whoa I dont think I was expecting that! But like I said, the PS was so thrilled with the symmetry he was able to achieve and said I will be really happy with the results. Of course they are smushed tighter than a chinese girls feet right now so its hard to tell anything. But I can poke at the top and it feels SO NICE up there. And I still have arm pain but its SO not as bad as even when I woke up this morning. Ahhhh progress!!!!

YAY Suebee!! LOL! So happy to "read" your smiling voice and hear you are back! Congrats on a successful surgery, girl!
RE: bras & sizing... I remember when Oprah had that show on bra sizing... all the women fitted wore a different size than they thought they wore!

Thanks, GF!!0

Suebee you sound like you are doing really well. I do believe my instructions were to sleep an incline (45 degree angle). I have lots of pillows from the BMX for that as well as one of those things you had in college with the arms for studying.0

Sue - congrats. Take it easy & pamper yourself. Jan

just grabbed my hubs ipad.....Sue, I'm just so excited for you...and more excited to see you in a few weeks...at a 475 ;-) I love that after all our time together on this thread and even though I have never seen you in person, I think that will be a fab size for you. you are now several pounds smaller than me (grrr! ;-) and at a great size I'm sure...yay!!!
Susan, Love that you were checking out your bra at work! ;-) I now own 9 bras and spent some time today "organizing" my underwear drawer to make my bras fit better and not get smushed...I like to go to Marshalls and check the selection out, I agree, I will not be buying a Chantelle again for "fun" I'm pretty frugal about the spending on bras I guess I've got to check out eBay!...I did buy two cotton bras from VS, check em out, super comfy for t shirts and they are in sale for two for $49.50. Cute colors, too!
Red- so sorry you and your man are going thru some tough stuff...so sorry he's had a difficult time health-wise as well...we are all here for you!!!0 -
I'll check in when I can, (reading is easy enough on my iphone, but typing is a pain)...but am out of a laptop for the near future...boo! :-( thinking of you all!

Sue - you sound sooooo great! Congrats on your new twins. Take care of them!!!

Congrats, Sue!! Very happy for you !
Thanks you all for your kind comments @ relating to having BC and recon. My DH has made me feel low as he is my main confidante and I am very close to him. So when he made his judgmental remarks it hurt I hope to talk more with him and restore the good feelings of support that I need from him!
I appreciate all of you ladies!

475! Look at you go, Sue! So you can't be that flat, my dear, if you only needed 350 to match!
What's kinda cool is it looks like you will be right where you wanted when you were considering a BA! Well.. .through a lot more emotionally and physically..but you know what I mean.
I'm sure you'll measure similiar to Megan than... prob a DD! ... and from the sounds of it.. I bet your BFF is not a DD...especially if she has trouble finding clothes to fit...would be interesting to have her get a fitting at Nordys. I think you should go together.. and bring your neighbor with ya!
Glad to hear you are doing well and like Rennasus said.. you can "hear" the smile in your voice!

Megan ~ Bummer about the out of commission laptop! Make sure you steal that ipad when you can!
RedSky~ I hope you and hubby reconnect and get back on the same page so he can be your support again. ... I think something that helped my DH was that he would go through some of the posts on here...it really helped him to understand our perspective a little better.. in fact, HE was the one that warned me that I could face some sort of depression when all the surgeries and everything was over. Would your hubby be interested in going through some of the forum with you?

Susan how enlightened of your DH to go through the forum! Wow! Love that idea!! Though my DH would probably say, do you talk about ME on there? LOL!!
I am heading out now to see my PS. My "black hole" has gotten bigger (though still just the size of a pin head; I'll posts pics on the forum when I get home). I am SO glad I see him today! I think he will probably re-stitch me again.
Ladies, I wrote about you (collectively) on my blog yesterday! (http://thebigcandme.blogspot.com/)
I also wanted to pass along a relaxation tip: it's a 3-minute video that my friend posted on her blog (Body Freedom.com/blog). It's perfect for what we are going through with BC. (Her link is listed in the "my favorites" section of my blog along with Maria's "The Healthy Cucina" and "Breast Cancer Won't Define Me" blog links, plus another favorite, "But doctor...I hate pink"). Enjoy!!
