Ginger, did I fill in the background well enough? Wasn't it you that was wondering how I'd do it?

Barbe I hadn't resized as the program I have wouldn't let me save when I did.  I also wanted to 'clean up' the first two as they are a little fuzzy and I was going to improve the clarity but again wen I did I couldn't save so they are posted just as you sent them.

Chrissy, you did GREAT and I am thankful!! I couldn't possibly get them posted and I think on this thread a visual is very much appreciated. The size is perfect. It's when the picture goes way off to the right that is disconcerting. These are within the normal paramters. Also, I have NO idea how to resize my pics!! I'm technologically challenged! Still.

I agree with Barbe on the sizes.  It really does show the details for sure!

The disappearing nine patch is my favorite block.

Dang it all!! I missed out on that cabinet as I was too slow at the end.........oh well I obviously wasn't meant to have that one and it's back to the drawing board and the computer to search again.  There are heaps going out of state but they are thousands of km from me boohoo..........obviously all the sewing/crafty people live in my state as there are very few for sale here. :(

I've just done a search of the Trading Post online and have found one not very far from where my sister lives.  I have the phone number so I will call it in the morning and ask a few more questions about it then maybe get my sis to go have a look for me before I do the three hour return drive.  The price is super good and if it's okay I will still have a cabinet by the middle of the week.   Keep you fingers crossed for me.....lol.

Barbe...your work is just magnificent.  Makes me want to take it up.  It's so creative.  I'm glad that 'spi" got finished!  and the Robin is just reat.  Thanks for taking the photos and explaining them.

Chrissy...thanks for posting the photos.  Don't worry about the sizing, I think this on-line system might change them a bit.  Too bad about the cabinet, but it sounds like you're well on your way to finding another.  3 hours is a long drive, but you get to see your sister in the mean time......and you can dream up new projects on the long drive.  Better yet, get someone to drive you and you would WORK on a project.

Lvtwoqlt..I've never heard of the disappearing 9 patch either, but have done something similar. This way looks a bit simpler.  Thanks for posting.  Post a picture of your completed quilt if you've got the means to do so......

Good luck chrissy!!! Did you know about this Trading Post before? What a co-incidence that they have a cabinet!

As I said Barbe, there are a whole heap of them but they are all in Victoria and New South Wales.........I don't think my DH would appreciate it if I told him I was going to do a 16 hour drive just to pick up a sewing cabinet.  There are very few in South Australia where I am and those that are up for sale have a price tag that is out of my budget capability.  I have to try to find one that is both in good condition and suits my budget.

I know I have been mia, but I started a new job in April and it has had me hopping since I started and not been able to do much quilting. when I started the job, my company put me up in a historic old fashioned Inn for 3 weeks for training, when I found out there was no TV there, I took my crochet lace snowflakes along with me to work on in the evenings. The owner and one of the desk clerks ordered a total of 4 dz snowflakes and 6 angels. I have the snowflakes done but am struggling to get the angels crocheted.

in the Quilts we worked on Saturday, we were using donated fabrics so we had a wide variety of colors and patterns for the quilts. I will take pictures of the kit I am working on at home and try to get them posted, I don't have it finished but I will post what I have done later today.

Barbe, I think the amount of fill you did in the background is just right for the scale of the piece. If you did an area of tiny fill you might need to do it everywhere and it could become the piece that never ends. I know what you mean though, I question myself on things like that and I have never done a piece with the workmanship of yours!

Again I love seeing the piece in larger size.

Chrissie, I hope you get that sewing table. Do you want the kind that elevates your sewing machine when you open it?  All of my sewing pieces are either from Ikea or are flat panel doors with horses underneath. My cutting table is two 24"X7'6" doors screwed together and the horses are really tall because I am 5'11 1/2" tall.  It is so wonderful to not have my back hurt at all. The dining room table just killed my back and I am too old and creeky to crawl on the floor to cut. I can hardly believe that I ever was able to do that!

I hope you can find some arrangement that will make your sewing more fun. One other idea is to buy a 3 or 4 panel screen, that is really pretty, to hide your table when you are working there.

     Happy Sunday all

Barbe, I love your work!  I can have the best intentions when I get inspired by seeing something as beautiful as that, but I end up havign one of those projects that never ends.  You have done such a great job of know when to stop.

Crissy, fingers crossed on your new sewing table.

Lvtwoqlt, Hope you are able to get those angels completed soon.  Please post a picture once they are done.

Yahoo! Yes I'm excited.......I have got a cabinet at a price I'm happy to pay. I pick it up on Wednesday ( it is Monday night here) morning and take advantage of the fact that the lady selling it lives about two minutes from my older sister so once that little beauty is on my car I'm going to visit with her for a couple of hours before I come home. When I get it in the room and set up I'll take some pics to share. Yippppeeeeee!

How very exciting!  I hate the fact that I can't be in my sewing room more often.  FDIL brought one of her bridesmaids by for measurements last night.  I need to get right on it.  I started altering the pattern right off and hope to work on it more tonight after I work in the yard some.

Meeces it's been so long since I have sewn anything just for pleasure that I'm really looking forward to being able. To keep my hands busy I have been knitting for my DH and he has gained three new pullovers. Each one has taken an average of five weeks.

Good luck with the bridesmaid dresses. They are a lot of work but oh so satisfying to do. I used to do bridal gear including veils and such. I was so into it that I used to use a lot of hand beading to embellish. I'm afraid I don't have the confidence to do that anymore but I love to see others efforts.

Chrissy, wonderful about the sewing unit.  It will inspire you I"m sure.  I know what you mean about confidence, I look at some of the work I've done previously and wondered how in the world I managed it.  Not sure I would even attempt some of it now!  Oh, and I'm doing more knitting right now than sewing also.  Has to do with the Olympics and a new recliner in my sewing space and now unfinished pieces.

And for you collecters out there.....here's your button fix for the day  Wink  >>>>>>

Wow! Mostlysew are you ever organized! Love your collection. I have so many buttons and laces all over the place. I have managed to card the lace so it is tidier and easier to find but the buttons are still all mixed together in jars and not all in one place.......lol......that's just another little job that will get done eventually.......lol.

Hi Chrissy, I'd love to take credit for being so organized, but I'm currently slowly moving in to a new space which allows me to organize as I go. Course, I've been over 4 months doing it :)). I do love these two drawers though I must say!

    Mostly your buttons are wonderful!

Chrissie  I too have laces, I thought it was just me. lol   Congrats on the sewing table, I look forward to photos.  Chrissie, if you have Grandchildren or nieces and nephews you could get them to sort your buttons! 10 year old girls LOVE buttons!

Meece, if you have time (lol) please let us see the bridesmaids dressses as they come along. How long untill the wedding? How did it turn out with the wedding gown mixup? Weddings are so exciting.

DD's best friend is in town for a few days. I look forward to seeing him soon. I dressed him as a tree in high school, a people eating plant, a Fosse jazz boy, a reporter, and so many more! Ah those were the days.

Ginger I have four grandchildren unfortunately they are all well past the age of having fun sorting buttons.......lol. Oh and all boys ages 16,16, 14 and 13. My niece doesnt have time to sort buttons for me as she has two little ones and my grandniece is only eight months old so not quite there yet........lol.....I just have to do it for myself. Actually I like playing buttons that's why I have so many.....lol

Mmm mine too.....lol. But he also looks at my stash of fabric, wool, beads and everything and says I'll never use it all so I don't need to buy more. Is he kidding! Of course I need to buy more!

Oh button poker, I haven't played that in years!........lol

That would be a great poker game!  Can't you see us arguing about the value of the buttons to the laces. I also have a lot of my Grandma's tatting, beyond value!

I used to love to get into my Grandmothers button box.

    Love you all

Ante up!! I'm in for button poker!!

What are y'all going to do with the laces??? You must get them out there in the air! I'm ready for another project and have a bunch of ideas of doing flowers with the centres in beads and the petals hardened with gesso like I did in my first pic. Now I'm on the bead hunt and haven't found any I like. There is a store 45 minutes away that I just might have to go to....payday first!!

My grandmother had an old cigar box full of butons.  Loved to run my fingers through it.  Tey weren't all pretty ones, but Grandma never through out an old piece of clothing without removing the buttons first.  Grandpa wore grey uniforms and there were many grey buttons looped on strings.

In my quilt store I had a small trunk, say 1/4 of a regular size, FULL of buttons!!! Kids would play for hours, and some adults, too!! I once sat for an hour after I closed and helped a woman who was making her own baby notices. She was using buttons for the wheels of the pram as well as the baby's head. That was fun! Then she beat me up on pricing....sigh. AND I stayed late!
