    Hi Sunflowers,

Meece did start this thread for us. However I picked up on "Barbe and her friends" right away! Good catch there.

I love to come to this thread, it speaks to a part of me that makes me feel good down to my bones.

In addition to the silk I also ordered a bolt of muslin. It makes me feels secure to have muslin available.

    Laters all

I know what you mean about a bolt of muslin Ginger. I used to laugh to myself in my store when people ordered it and were very careful to say muslin and not muslim. I had my store over 9/11....  But it makes such a good base for so many things I do!

Muslin is a staple around here too....along with black cotton. I use lots of both. Gingere...what silk did you order? I do love my silks also....

Went on an overnight trip with a friend last week and we stopped at knitting shops....I HAD to buy yarn! Yum! Almost bought some new buttons for my collection but they didn't quite sing enough. You know how they need to sing to you...tehehe

Sunflowers....yep, bring your beads and play with us..

I have a bolt of muslin in my sewing room right now and have a project which will take a couple of bolts which I will get at the same time so they match.

I am starting to move my stuff back into the newly painted room.  Going slow because it looks so good when it isn't packed full.

OOoh, Meece post pics!!! Love seeing a room come together!! Never thought of using my bolt of black cotton the same way as muslin. Muslin is just so much cheaper. I was able to buy bolts because I bought from the distributor as a store owner. How do you guys buy bolts?

    Barbe,

I personally buy bolts only when on sale! And, I might try to,post a pic of my almost done new room later.....As it requires leaving to use the big computer.......

Meece....ok, what have you got planned that needs more than a bolt? Just curious.......

I get a magazine titled Studios, it is fun to dream. I espescially like the studios that are in little houses at the back of the properties. You know, Pink with flowers all around.

Meece what project would use several bolts of muslin? It sounds exciting! When I did costuming I sometimes used large quantities of fabric and it was always fun going out to purchase on that scale.

Barbe, I buy bolts only when on sale if it is my money, which it always is these days. Actually when I did costuming I often purchased unusual fabrics from the $1.00 table at a large farbic supplier. For muslin I do wait for 25% off. As you know it is possible to buy muslin from major brands of quilting fabrics.  I find that to be expensive, but if it was for a project that needed long life I would probably do it.

Hancocks of Paducah, near the National Quilt Museum, has an amazing range of quilting fabrics and is fun to visit. My family originated in that area so I have been a long time visitor there.

Mostly, when you want to post a pic here go to your web album and select your pic. Left click on the pic and then right click on ' copy URL'. Come back to BCO and click on the little tree symbol. A small window will open then all you do is right click in the line that says URL ( top one) and then left click on insert. Your pics should then appear. Good luck!

LOVE it!! It is the same drawer set that I got from Ikea, but mine are black and I got two. I LOVE the sheep rug!! Did you make it? Could you have? Nice yellow...this was a garage before it was born, right?

Barbe, thanks. Yep, it was an overstuffed garage! My supplies are still in the attic waiting for their new home behind the soon to be real design wall. And thanks, I love the room too.

Yes, that sheep rug I designed and made. It's traditional rug hooking and I used recycled clothing and some new wool yardage to make it. It's hard to see, but that's a kitty in the corner and he's pulling the wool off the sheep and making the colorful yarn skeins that decorate the border. Silly!

So, when are we going to see the latest iteration of your spi? Is he up to spid yet?

Mostly, I love your sewing room and the rug!  I love rooms when they are at that stage, there is the promise of organization and order. Like a new box of crayons at the beginning of the school year.  Let us see your design wall when it si up and working. How will you hide your "stuff" behind it?

Congrats on the work you have done. It is just lovely.

Hi Ginger, thanks. I do almost hate to have to move the rest of my things in there! I think Meece was feeling the same thing about moving back into her newly painted space. I love the coloring box analogy....that's it exactly.

In my mind, my design wall will be wonderful. It will be 21' of cubby holes that are 8' tall 14" deep. The ceiling is 10' so I will have cabinets above. The cubbies will be covered by 5 sliding doors such that I can cover the whole 21' or I can shove them all to one side or the other and only cover 4'. I'll cover these doors with cotton batting and can use them either for display or designing. I'll be able to either uncover my stash or hide it when messy. I can't wait!

Wow! That room puts mint to shame.  DH chose a pale yellow for my sewing room, and I hated it as we were painting, but it is growing on me.  In fact it is hardly noticeable now.  That sounds bad doesn't it?  Well yesterday I was at JoAnn's and found some home decor fabric with a pale yellow background that matches the walls.  I think I will make some window treatments and possibly recover my sewing bench.

I bought a bolt of muslin yesterday.  25 yards and I had a 50% coupon for a single cut piece of fabric.  I am planning on making a catherdal window quilt and want to have all the backing fbric at once.  I have a sample which I worked on which is about 6" x 12" to make sure I wanted to do it.

I have given FDIL instructions to pick up some cheap fabric to practice on from the Fashion District today.  We purchased some of the fabric for the  bridesmaid dresses for about $5 a yard, and the lining for $1.99 a yard.

I purchased one pattern for the dresses, regularly $17.95, for 40% off but wished I could have a separate pattern for each girl.  Well yesterday My mother found two more @ $1 each, then I found the final one @ $1 at a different store.  So, I have 4 patterns and spent $13.  I love bargains!!!!

Meece,  Wow, great prices.  Where's the fashion district?  Yellow walls are sometimes difficult, but I love mine.  It's so bright and cheery in there.  People do remark on it though.  I just tell them it's a Mexican Eatery......

Woohoo girls wish me luck!  I just put a bid on a sewing cabinet on Ebay and the good thing is it's not too far away from where I live.  I sure hope I win the bid as I soooooo want one of these things I'm so tired of having to set everything up on the dining table.

Mostleysew your room looks fantastic!  I'm green with envy.....lol.

Funny, my sewing room is yellow, too!!!!! I posted a couple shots of it pages ago.

Chrissy, good luck!! I LOVE ebay and used to buy and sell a ton off of it. Then shipping became so bloody expensive I stopped it.  I had bought a tea cup for 1 cent and the guy wanted $17 to post it!! That did it. I stopped cold.

Chrissy, do you have anything like Freecycle there?  It is free and established to keep usable items out of landfills, i.e. dumps. You can give away things on it, accept things on it, or request things on it.   I have gotten a ton of good things, that I needed on there. MY DD got a folding sewing table on it. I got a wonderful coffee table, a powerwasher, a glider rocker and hassock, just tons of things.

I hope you get your sewing table! Having a place for things for sewing is so wonderful. For several decades I took over the dining room from Easter untill Thanksgiving every year!   There were even a few times we had Easter Dinner in the kitchen.

Ladies, here is the final group of pix for my project. The first one of "spi" is a bit fuzzy as I was trying to get close enough to show it only has 6 legs and I was using my cheap camera. The second one shows my version of a robin that is hand stitched, apparently that's her eggs in the fourth pic. The third pick is the same area that was previously posted, just to show how I filled in the background. And then the over-all unframed piece. I'm thinking of mounting it "floating" in a black frame.

    Love Barbe

Barbe, these are absolutely gorgeous!  So much work and such an amazing effect with the beeds, they really bring it to life.

Wow these are really big and once again I have not been able to resize :(  Barbe if you send anything else through, can you adjust the size before sending?  Thanks.

    Love n hugs.   Chrissy

Yesterday my guild had a workshop on the 'disappearing nine patch' block. We had fabrics that had been donated so for several weeks prior to the workshop, we spent our meetings cutting and sorting these fabrics into 'kits' that we worked on yesterday. I think we got 3 or 4 tops made and many kits taken home to put together. After we get the tops made we will cut the backing and batting for each top, take them back home to finish. These quilts will go to our charity project, the Robin's Nest, a children's advocacy program here in the county. They work with cases of child abuse and each child gets a security quilt to take home with them.

About the disappearing nine patch, here is a tutorial on how to make them. http://quilting.about.com/od/blockofthemonth/ss/Cookie-Cutter-Nine-Patch-Quilt-Pattern.htm

We started out with 4.5 inch blocks and used 16 base blocks for each quilt to finish about 45/46 inches square.

I put one top together that was a total scrappy quilt (144 random small blocks) using various dark blue/black for the center block and then I mixed them all up so I didn't have any two small blocks side by side. I didn't get a picture of it yesterday but I will try to get a picture on Thursday.  I brought a kit home that was a planned block and have about 4 primary blocks sewn and split in quarters, the centers are all the same but the other pieces are in various shades of pinks/purples and a couple with shades of yellow.

Chrissy, I think the pics are just the right size to show detail!!! (Unless you already made them smaller, did you?) Any smaller and they'd just be blobs. Thank you so VERY much for posting them!! I truly appreciate your efforts - for me it is hours of frustration trying to get a picture to post!!!

Sheila, that is a very cool block!! I never knew that's where that pattern came from and was excited to see that. What colours did you guys have? Can you post any pics?? Where have you been?????
