That looks like fun, maybe next year.

Thanks Ginger, but I do see it's for clothes. I've already won a first place in a clothing competition with a wild jacket I made. That's enough clothing for me!!!

Paula66 - LOVE the colors!!! I'm all about brights.....
barbe1958 - thanks so much for talking me out of free-motioning all the little forest critters on my baby quilt. I'd still be doing it! I enveloped the quilt, did some straight stitching to outline and reinforce the borders, a big, wavy, zig-zag stitch on a light border, and then just the straight stitches from corner to corner.
The quilt was the hit of the baby shower!!! (I think the fact I did it two-weeks post-op got me brownie points, too.... Thanks again!

Here is a fun and easy block to make: a Disappearing Four Patch (this is an unfinished quilt top)
Here is the tutorial:

Blessings - That is so beautiful. Too bad I have two quilts going right now or I would do one of those. How do you plan on finishing it?

Barbe it is also for quilting. Hereis a copy paste.
Quilting (bed quilts, baby quilts, lap quilts, wall hangings)
It was just and fyi but I think perhaps some of it didn't come through.
Sew Beautiful has a really talented editorial staff. Some of the stitchers that I have met who are from around the world are just amazing. I would love to go back to the school in 2013 if I can manage it. I learned to do monograming by hand that is just fabulous. It also takes some time but mostly the self assuredness to do it. I don't have the skills to enter such a contest myself. I lose that courage pretty quickly myself. It is just so nice to be in a group of women doing skills that our grandmothers also did.

I love the blue fabrics and pattern of the quilt. My DD just walked by and recognized the pattern of the blue quilt as a disappearing nine patch!!

Thank you, jo1955! I really don't know how I will finish it. I could just stop now and make a throw, or add some borders and make a bigger quilt. Believe it or not, the fabric was on clearance at WalMart, and the blue fabric and the white fabric have exactly the same pattern. I have a bunch, so I was thinking of backing it with the blue fabric, and just doing a stitch-in-the-ditch.
Ginger - thanks! It's actually a Disappearing Four Patch....cut on either side (horizontally and vertically) of the center seams, then twisted around. Easy peasy!!!

Blessings I am so backwards! Nine patch? lol

VERY pretty!! And how clever of you to pick co-ordinating fabrics!! I also teach how to pic colours that will look good together and you took the first step by knowing that the manufacturer spent a lot of time and money figuring out what went together and ran with that. That's why most quilt fabric comes in "sets" so you can just grab the colour combos you like and it will work. Another way is to look at the colour test buttons on the selvage of the fabric. They show all colours that are in the print. You can just pull out any (or all!) of those colours and know that it will match!

Dd has been using the cutting board in my sewing room all week while DGD is at Montessori in the morning. It is a real gift of time and space for her to be able to work on a project.
I have gone up there myself now and begun to unpack the mystery boxes. I hope to find my scissors. I got two boxes unpacked, some fabric too. I plan to go back up there tomorrow and do some more while DD is here again. I look forward to the room becoming all it can be.

barbe - it looks like you have stitched together several selvages to make something....what is it?
One of the ladies in our class just made a tote bag of cut-off selvages.

Oh my goodness! I can't believe it! While unpacking all my stuff I have discovered that I have seven pairs if scissors! Why I have that many I really couldn't say ............the only thing I can think of is when I was looking for scissors I couldn't find then and so bought new ones. Don't think I'll be needing to do that in a hurry as I think I've found enough to see me out........lol.
Well back to it. I will have picks of all my sorting shortly.......I promise....lol.
Love n hugs. Chrissy0 -
They're probably Ginger's, Chrissy! They floated thru the earth's crust & landed in your boxes!

Exactly what I was thinking! I've been looking for my scissors for a good long time now!

Well girls I think I'm done! I've taken some pics and will post them as soon as I download then from my phone..........and turn the laptop on. I have a tendancy to use my iPhone a lot as its easier to pick up and put down..........just shows how lazy I'm getting.....lol

My friend who's an amazing sewer, talked me into keeping my serger. I could never figure out how to thread the darn thing, let alone know what to sew with it. She came over yesterday to give me some lessons. At first I was all thumbs, but after awhile things started to come together. I really like it. Once we got all the kinks worked out and the threading down pat, it was a breeze. She loaned me tons of books to look over, so I can't wait to do some projects this week.

Well girls here it is! The culmination of all my striving......lol......first up is the sorted button collection.
Then comes the sewing cabinet with my sewing machine hidden inside.
The machine is well covered to keep out dust.......and one handle needs a screw. Note to self........fix drawer handle. The shelves are stainless steel open shelves. The very top shelf is used for blanket and pillow storage and underneath is a blanket basket......the rest is mine.....all mine!
Don't worry girls I do also have two cupboards that are well stocked with all sorts of goodies.....lol. So this is my sewing corner.
Now, I just have to find some time to use it all!....lol

Chrissy - Looks like you have been a busy beaver. Good for you! Now when are you going to make something - LOL?

JO, YOU MISUNDERSTAND IT IS ABOUT THE PROCESS not production. fat finger caps, sorry.
Chrissy your buttons are wonderful. I was just looking for a good button to sew on a little pink poodle that has lost its eye. You would have had just the right one. All I could find in my mess were novelty buttons, like little airplanes and flower pots and such. Not so good for little eyes.
I will get back to more some more organizing in the AM.

Chrissy,
What a great sewing nook. I'm in awe of you button collection. I want to shop at your house!
Jo, I never responded earlier, but your quilts are just great. You have indeed been very busy this summer. I've made a top or two, but the quilts are no where near finished.
Paula, good luck with the serger. I've got friends that swear by them. I've been resisting them all this time and hope to continue to do so. I just don't need another machine, lol0 -
Chrissy, your organization is inspiring.
I have been looking at those decorative boxes for my shelves. They make things lok so organized!

Gingerbrew - I did not misunderstand. After I spent months getting my sewing room organized, I could not wait to start a project. That is just me...... I think Chrissy has done a fabulous job of sharing with us all her wonderful treasures.
MostlySew - Thank you. I have 2 quilts in the hand quilting stage right now. Have not been able to do much lately with vacation and trying to get back into the swing of having to work. I need to get back to it soon.

Thanks Meece. I like the look of them too and to make finding things a little easier I have labeled them as well. The clear stack of boxes on the right contain my bead collection and the space beside that is for the buttons.
I have more stuff, I know I do but need to be able to get into the shed to find it. That is another story that hopefully has a good ending ........ we will see.
One thing I will say, and that is if you are thinking if using the decorative boxes make sure you get sturdy ones as the lighter ones will not stand up to the usage.0 -
They can be so expessive though!

Meece the largest ones with the handles were $6 each all the others were either $3, $4 or $5. There is a chain of stores called Cheap as Chips here and they are great for getting loads of bargains. They particularly carry a large range of storage boxes and all sorts of craft gear. The containers for the buttons were $2.50 ea as were the boxes for the bead containers. I'll take a pic of the bead containers so you can see.

Hmmm, I would assume that there are some good bargains somewhere around here. Michaels has the ones which are shoebox sized and you can find them for around $3. I get my small item boxes at Harbor Freight for $2.99.

Meece have you thought of doing a google search for craft boxes, fancy storage boxes etc? Perhaps doing that you may find something in your area or that ships at a low cost.
0 -
That's a good idea. My shelve have so much mismatched stuff right now. I would love to have some consistency.

Did you notice the cherry boxes on the upper shelves? I love using them as well as they are a decent size. I usually cover then with gift wrapping paper which pretties them up and keeps them consistent. Those have yet to be covered.......lol. Again just another idea to perhaps utilizing the boxes you already have.
