Agent I had the sores and heartburn/acid reflux. I sucked on ice through taxotere and never had another  mouth sore. Also for reflux check with your on but try over the counter stuff like Prilosuk or Nexium. if that doesn't work as your onc for a prescription. OTC stuff never worked for me. At the end of chemo I was on 2 meds for acid reflux.

my friend who passed last year from this craptastic disease (27 years after first dx) swore by papaya for acid reflux. She ate it every day! i can hardly abide it, myself, but plan on trying again soon.

has anyone heard of colace?  My nurse suggested it for next round. Today seems a bit better. Ate dry Rice Krispies and some matzah -  mmmmmm - with a bit of jam. Apple juice and water. Soaked in Epsom salts this morning

Still have some ab pain and went a bit this morning but not d. Seems to be calming down

I do have to stop thinking of dying and focus on living!  Sometimes I feel so strong like nothing can stop me. At others I feel like it's just a matter of time!

    Argh!!!!!!!!

And all this time my onc keeps giving me very positive news. It's so stupid - I feel like if I buy into the positive that he tells me that I'm cursing myself

    What a dope I'm becoming!

Can't wait to get through this!!

You are all so wonderful and I so value your friendship!!!!

football-tough-nut-to-crack? you don't have to worry about all that stuff now! i know we do though. i don't know if it will ever go completely away, but you ARE doing it! you WILL make it thru it- i was a scaredy-cat sniveling wimp, and i could'nt even get to the boards to admit to anyone, how awful i percieved it, but we woman are some strong stuff. and you do seem to have a pretty good prognosis. i am almost two years out, and yesterday, i realized, it was like the first day, i almost felt like a normal person, almost my old self, and i was sooo grateful. just i notice i feel better when i try to move a little each day, or get my mind involved in a project. last night when i was making dinner, i noticed that i wasn't hurrying just to get it done and over with, but was actually enjoying making it again.

    FBN. Hugs. Just Hugs.

Chemo is a beast but you will get through it. I had the cold waves that sometimes lasted for a hour each time. Nothing could warm me up. Then later I'd have a hot flash. Ugh. I wore my sweater backwards so it was easier to put on and take off when I was in bed or on a chair. Sure looked goofy but worked for me. As for your feelings of doom, most people get that when they re not feeling well. And they're not on steroids!  Colace is a stool softener pretty sure it is just a stool softener not a laxative. Hang in there. Oh. And drink.....

Agent. Are you taking your meds? If not TAKE THEM!  Take them at the first sign of queasiness.  Don't wait til you are throwing up. If your MO didn't give you anything CALL HIM. A IF you have D too, call him and get something for that. Lomo til works if immodium doesnt. But don't try to tough it out. There are things they can do for you CALL THE DR OFFICE . Also if you are having N& V and D, ask if you can go in for more fluids. You don't want to get dehydrated. Hugs and you will get through it.

    Much love to all.

  • Football - I ended up chapped down there from the chemo.  I used wipes instead of TP and someone suggested baby oil, which really helped with the burning. I also drank Metamucil starting the day of steroids and never had a problem with C after the first round.  However did have the big D every round.

Not sure if this is the forum but I remember someone talking about ejection factors.  Mine has gone from 64% to 62% after 5 rounds of Herceptin (the test was done two rounds ago).  Is this the norm?

    have a good day everyone

actually that ejection fraction drop isnt bad at all. mine dropped from 74 to 54, and they stopped me for three months.

Football I told you about Colace yesterday in our FB chate. Yes it's a stool softener but never did much for me. I preferred Metamucil because it also softens the stool.

they didnt stop when it dropped a few points at a time for each test of EF, but i think they stop if there is a 10 % drop. they are watching your back! they will let you know, but you could ask your onc or his P/A. at least that is what they did for me.

oh. In regards to the burning *a hole LOL,  AQUAPHOR!  That stuff works great. I have a huge container and I use it still, since I occasionally get the D yet. I seem to be unable to process raw foods. Salads are so good though I eat them anyway! Pay for it the next day, but sometimes you just gotta!  LOL but Aquaphor really is grand.

Ok. Will not be posting for a bit. Having my TKR tomorrow.

    Much love.

lago oh yeh!!  Lol. These past few days are just a blur!  And funny enough I just cleaned the friggin bathroom 2 days ago!!!

On top of everything else I have had ringing in my head. As a musician I expected it to start at some point. Last fall it seemed to start increasing in my right ear for longer periods of time. Then I convinced myself it was brain cancer. My family doc was never concerned

My mom says that she started to have ringing in her head in her 50s as well. She said that for her it was part of the aging process

Good grief!  Ringing, pooping, chilling - and not the good kind. Lol. Atleast the dry mouth is improving!!

    Lol

Football some people to get tinnitus on Taxotere. At least I've read about it here from several women. Again mention this to your Onc.

Aquaphor or A&D ointment (in the baby aisle) for the sore hineys!

Moon - wishing the very best care for you, and that you get through this with no scenic detours allowed!!! I will be thinking of you every day! Xoxo.

Ddgm - they are looking for larger drops between echo/MUGA - a couple of points is inconsequential and usually returns to normal once you are through. I believe they look for a sudden 10 point, or 10% drop.

agent - call your doc, your SE should not be this severe. You need new meds and a chat with your onc.

Football - are you taking steroids? That may also be responsible for your roller coaster of feelings.

Agent, I'm about a week and a half out from my third chemo, so just starting to feel halfway good again.  Yes, chemo is hell!  I, too, thought I was a strong woman until this, and it brought me to my knees, feeling like a total whimp.  Now that I'm half way through the worst of it, I feel like I can get through this.  In the beginning, I was pretty sure I couldn't.  Hang in there and know there are others like you and we can give each other strength.  My onc game me the okay to take Prilosec twice a day and it seems to help with reflux, plus Tums on top of that when needed.  Like someone earlier said, don't worry about taking whatever meds you need to get you through.  Still haven't figured out much to help with the mouth, but just look forward to a few days from now when it will get better, even though probably not totally well.

Football, Balmex works great on a sore tushy.

YAY Linda!!  I love good news :-)

And Moon, many prayers flying your way from Indianapolis.  I betcha you'll do just fine.  I know the healing process will be long, but you get good drugs.

Agent, I responded to my first chemo (TCH) like you are.  I waited too long (1 week) before going back to the cancer center.  I was hospialized for 5 days with neutropenic fever and dehydration.  The first thing those wonderful nurses said to me is "why didn't you just come in?  You don't need an appointment.  We are here to take care of you!".  I felt like a moron, but I was trying to tough it out thinking each day I'll feel better.  I say head on over and they'll hook you up with fluids and IV anti-emetics.  I should have done that...

    Feel better everyone!!

As usual everyone here gives such good advice I do hope u all take it in. Agent please liten to Pbrain, get control of this before it gets out of control, u'r not a wimp this is not easy.

And FBN I always feel bad u have so much fear, even tho fear is actually our inner help to a lot of problems that we can avoid. But don't let it take a hold of you, u have a good scenario going for you with docs that seem to know what's going on--Let them worry and u just watch the day to day stuff so u can take care of u'rself and before u know it time has passed and so has all the fear.

FBN - as the others have said for a firey behind, I found that flushable baby wipes instead of toilet paper helped a lot. I also used a cream that you put on babies for nappy rash (here it's called Bepanthon, don't know what it's called there lol) also helped ease the fire a lot.  Make sure you drink lots of water - having the big D will really dehydrate you and make everything a lot worse. Chemo really does your head in, and there's not a lot you can do about it, but just ride through it and recognise that it's really not you. I found myself wishing I could die - not just oh this is crap, but really serious dark thoughts about how I could end my life. Pretty scary stuff, and a bit funny when I look back and think about all the crap I was going through to keep myself alive!

(((hugs))) to all you lovely girls going through treatment, you will get there eventually.
    Trish
