Carrie- I had the same problem with certain smells that i either ate or smelled during chemo, but it is much better now, they say you shouldnt eat your favorite foods while going through tx. Have a fun time at "Hump night" tonight. When you first mentioned Hump night and had never heard of it I told my friends we should have a hump night, well that really got the conversation flowing and us laughing. LOL!

Michelle- Havnt heard from you are feeling ok?

Hi - home from rads and dinner with DD.  I am feeling ok, just damn itchy!  I'll be popping a couple benadryl here real soon.  I've been applying the cortisone cream, too, but it's not quite enough today.  We went to the Japanese steakhouse again...we all like it and it's extremely convenient.  I have enough leftovers for two lunches.

Earlier today I took my mom and her friend out to lunch for pizza.  I didn't have a lot of time and Joycek's pizza shop is very near where my mom used to live, so we went there.  It was very good today and I've got those leftovers too!   The ladies were happy to see each other, so it all worked out great.

The traffic tonight from Boston was ugly, though.  It has been raining and the highway was really slow.  It took us an hour and 45 minutes to get home...yuck!

Welcome GmaFoley!  I rarely eat canned soups and I don't use them often in cooking.  I'm sure many of them are loaded with mystery ingredients!

Michelle- I was thinking of you with the freezing rain today/tonight.  I am glad you made it home safely, Super cute picture of the puppy too!

Debbie- I think what you and your DH do helping others is wonderful.  Glad you finally got to try your own recipe you shared!  I am going to make it again next week.  We loved it, thank you!

Carrie- Have fun at your hump night get together, bring back all sorts of info on the appetizers- yummmm appetizers are my favorite food.

For once I had a quiet day today.  With slick roads I didn't go food shopping.  I;ll do it tomorrow.  e stayed in and I got laundry done and just hung out with the kids and played.  So now tomorrow is food shopping, Friday is the end of Christmas shopping, PT, haircut and wrapping.  Saturday cooking and then ahhhh- Christmas!

Hope everyone had a great day!

Michelle- Ah shoot, i was hoping you wouldnt get all the icky side effects from the rads. Does the benedryl make you sleepy? I cant take it, it makes me wired and nervous, same with cough surup. But i hope it helps and your skin heals and dosnt get any worse. Am i reading this wrong, does Joyce have a pizza shop? Must of missed that one!

Laurie-I thought maybe that sauce for the chicken would be good with beef too maybe for a beef stew or strogganoff. I saw that where you all live is cold and icy, you all be careful driving and stay warm.

Went to dinner at the mist tonight and had a bacon wrapped tenderloin, one of the things i hadnt tryed on the menu it was soooooo good i want to recreate it at home once i do if its good i will let you all know it had a maple glaze over it too yummmmmmm! Dh

Debbie - the benadryl doesn't make me very sleepy.  I was hoping that it would, actually.`But it did help with the itching and my skin didn't bother me all night.  It doesn't look too bad this morning.

Oh, "Joyce's pizza shop" - she and her DH owned a shop and my family has been customers since we were teenagers.  They sold the shop to one of the people who work there, but her DH still has a little hand in it.  So technically they don't own it.  But it's hard for me to not think of it as theirs because I've known the shop for at least 45 years.  And it's about a mile away from where my mom lived for 14 years and where her best friend lives.

I need to finish my shopping today - need to pick up a few things for DH...he has offered very few ideas and a couple days ago  I finally told him he couldn't leave the house until he gave me two suggestions or I would get him an iPad.  Turns out he wants an iPad....who knew?  So I'm off to the Apple store later.  And I need to get things for his stocking.  We just can't get away from the stockings...my DD has done them for years for everyone in the family and this year I told her we'd take care of ours.  It gets expensive but the grandkids think that Santa fills one for everyone and we'll be there Christmas morning, so we are not ready to spoil that idea.  I also need to get a few things for the grandpuppy!

Michelle,  i used to combine the cortisone cream with the aquaphor in the palm of my hand and apply, the combo seemed to be the best for the itching for me. I was so proud of myself getting all the shopping and wrapping done, and when my 25 yr old daughter came home, she said"mom you cant put the gifts under the tree already, Santa has to bring them the night before." She also made me hang the stockings.

Debbie  yummm bacon on anything is good!

Party last night was fun,had little mini crabcakes that were really good, made by my BIL, some sushi, lots of dips, shrimp...the usual appetizers.  Someone brought a box of chocolate candy, and we all stood around the table talking about our favorite kind in the box, and the ones we dont like.  Home early, but sat up till midnight talking with my daughter...love to hear her view of life now that she is an adult.

Carberry yum.  I think there is a guide somewhere that helps people identify the type of chocolate (cherry filled etc) from the swirl on top)  I will have to get that I have bitten into too many only to find uh oh! peach mush. And it will stop my daughter from poking them.

Tonight, oh, I don't know.  I think I'll wander around  Whole (Paycheck) Foods and see what looks good.

Carrie- Love that you and your daughter stayed up talking.  And it is the family traditions that make Christmas- Christmas- like when the presents get put under the tree.  Thanks for the smile!

I don't know where else to put this but I come here most so...... I think I got all three jobs I interviewed for in RI!!!!! :)  I told one of them about the BC because they were a small group and I thought that it was only fair in case thier ins rates went through the roof. They didn't care. The other 2 I just told them my office closed.

Next week is my first follow up mammogram. It better be alright cause I'm going to work!

I decided on spilt pea soup, pears, bread and yogurt with honey for dinner. Making soup now.

Getting so excited about Christmas!  My neighbors will be going to Christmas Eve service at Unitarian Church too. My daughter, her BF, me, my friend Julie are going too and maybe my brother. Maybe my brother and my friend Julie?....; )  Oh, I'm a meddler.

Carrie - thanks for the tip!  I have found that using the cortisone cream followed by Moisturel cream, throw in a benadryl capsule for good measure and I am itch-free!  And isn't it fun to have adult conversations with your children!  But the little kid wants to come out every now and then - it's funny that she doesn't want to see the presents until Christmas morning.  I was actually worried about having too much under our tree when the grandkids were here on Sunday.  I think next year I'll hide the stuff when they are here.  I do not want to do anything to lose the "magic" of Christmas and Santa.

Bedo - congrats, what a great position to be in!!!  We'll all be crossing our fingers and toes for a clear mammo next week!

    Luvrving,

When my daughter was little I bought one of those big sleigh bells like the ones that you find on a red ribbin decoration.   I left it on the outside window sill. (my daughter was concerned because we didn't have a chimney)  When I "found " it she was so excited that maybe it came from Rudolf!

Congratulation on getting through rads the way you are..  I used cortison cream too and really kept things lubricated with Aquaphor.after rads each day and then again at night.  It worked really well. No hot showers!  I know, it's tempting this time of year and put the cream on afterwards to hold in the moister.

Michelle- So glad you have the itching under control!  It's all in what works right?  Hope rads goes well for you tonight.  Putting presents under the tree is a hard call.  We rap the presents we give to other people under the tree but nothing for the kids.  I wrap Santa presents in Santa paper and ours in something different.  My mom never went nuts trying to trick us so I use alot of ideas from other friends families when it comes to Santa.  When I was about 8 and my brother was 9 he pointed out that my mother and Santa had the same hand writing.  My father replied "hey your pretty observant, good for you!"  I was like, huh????  You mean he's right?  my dad says "yha!"  I was so disappointed.  Stupid smart brother.  Dumb proud father of stupid smart brother.  lol!

Bedo YAY!! YAY!! YAY!!  Congrats on all the job offers!!!  I hope you are walking on air right now, you should be!! Hope your mammo goes well next week, it will be I think you are now set up for an amazing 2012!!

Tonight I think will be Debbie's Belgian Chicken again.  And Debbie- that is what is written on the recipe card "Debbie's Belgian Chicken"  just like I have " Michelle's Spaghetti Sauce"

Carrie- The crab cakes sounds good i will have to make them soon, We have a fish monger here on the beach that has the best fresh crab now my mouth is watering.

Bedo- Yay on the jobs, in this ecomomy its hard to get 1 let alone 3 Good for you!

Michelle-Isnt that amazing that your family was connected to Joyce way before you knew her and then you met her through this forum,, There are no coincedences.

Laurie-  Stupid smart brother.  Dumb proud father of stupid smart brother' That is sooooo funny,! LOL!  I also had your Chicken salsa as Lauries chicken salsa.

The stories on christmas brings back memories, my mom knew we tryed to "Sneak" at our presents so she would number them different every year, so all 4 of us would open them all while mom was sleeping and then try to wrap them back up so she wouldnt know. Then she started hiding them and not putting them out untill we went to bed on christmas eve.LOL!

I bought DH a freezer (smaller one) for his venison, i dont have enough room in mine, plus i dont want his stuff mixed in with mine. but it wont fit in my car or his jeep so i will just give him the reciept in a card and let him pick it up himself.

Having leftover braised chicken tonight so wont have to cook (Yay)

Bedo, a huge congrats on the job offers! That is wonderful. Definitely will be keeping fingers and toes crossed for you on your mammo. I am sure it will be good.

There is no one in our family who believes in Santa any more. Sigh. I guess I have to wait (and I really hope it's a very LONG wait) for grandchildren.

Just got home from the hospital, was there since 8 am. First cardiologist appointment, then blood work, then onc NP, then wait for blood work results, then herceptin. Then I was able to go to the PT and pick up my two new LYmphedema sleeves. Hurray, no more wrapping at night. Then i visited my cousin who is in the hospital. Long day. I think tuna fish for dinner.

I'm going to beg the hubbie to take me out to dinner tonite.. his choice, which will mean BBQ... (ick)

     I'm exhausted, relatively.

I got my hair cut.. I often cut it myself but haven't been taking the usual obsessive care with it like i used to.  My hairdresser is a slash and burner.. She really cuts off a lot, but it always looks fantastic and pretty cute after a week.

Just have to share a great marinade/rub for pork loin roast - Bronco Bob's Tangy Apricot Chipotle Sauce.  The meat was moist & tender & such a good flavor.  The bottle says "grilling, dipping & appetizers".   Treated myself to a pound of crab at Costco today so I'll be making Carrie's crab cakes soon.

RE: Christmas stockings - Santa was me, like I expect is true for most wives & mothers, although my ex-DH did get involved when there were things like bikes to put together.  Santa always filled stockings for everyone.  I started doing it for my parents when I was a teen-ager.  And still do it for my 41 yr old son & girl.  Since we don't wrap stocking gifts, you just have to be the last one awake on Christmas eve so you can fill.  Best of all - filling my own stocking was the way I got all the little gadgets that I wanted, or candy no one else liked, or perfume when I was out, etc.  I've shared this tip over the years and all my friends now buy little things for themselves to put in their own stocking.  The kiddos never know because I'm always so surprised.  Ho, ho, ho!!

Apple- I hope he takes you out!  AND you get to choose where you go.

Stockings- when we got older we started a new tradition amongst my brother, DH, Dad, Mom and I.  We each buy each other two stocking stuffers so no one fills any one stocking and we have to guess who gave each other what.  It's interesting.  DH and I do the boys stockings.

So, change of dinner plans.  Ds #1 tackled and head butted DS#2 in the face and split his top lip open.  So homemade chicken tenders in hopes that DS#2 will eat despite a split and bloody lip.  I tell you never a dull moment.

Kay- You have had quite a day, Hope your blood work and test came out better this time.Hope your cousin is ok too!

Apple- I never like my hair when i first cut it until about a week or two later too. Enjoy your dinner tonight. and hope you get your energy back soon.

Minustwo-I love flavored chipolte sauces, will have to give bronco bob a try.

I'm home from rads and dinner, not too much traffic tonight.  We might get a little snow tonight and/or tomorrow morning.  Hopefully it will be gone by tomorrow afternoon.  I'm looking forward to the 3 days off!

Kay - what a day!!!  It sounds like your LE is vastly improved, that's a good thing!

Apple - I'm with you on bbq.  It's ok in small doses if the food is not too smoky.  Otherwise, I can pretty much do without it.  You could tell DH that you are staying home, he can go get his bbq then do curbside pickup at your favorite restaurant.  That way you could enjoy some rest and restaurant food of your choice.

Ok, no complaining about haircuts.  Some of us would kill to have enough hair to cut...LOL!

Busy thread!  You don't dare miss a day or two!  I love beets, especially the fresh ones.  They're delicious.  Boil them until they're tender.  Cool and peel.  Slice and sprinkle with a good vinaigrette or other home-made dressing of your choice.

DH baked his oatmeal chocolate chip cookies today.  Dozens of them.  When I got home around 3:30 he was packing up the gift containers.  I sat down and ate three of them, and they are not a dainty size.  They're man-sized cookies.  Now we have to deliver tins of cookies to the neighbors.

I don't get "involved" in Christmas except for funding Santa Claus.  Today I gave my niece a couple of hundred dollars to buy presents for two kids I've never met.  DH and I don't buy gifts for each other any more.  When you reach a certain age, 68 and 72 in our case, you've already exhausted your interest in surprise presents.  We each buy whatever we want that we can afford throughout the year.  Our only indoor Christmas decoration is a comical reindeer card holder with a few ornaments hung on him in addition to the Christmas cards  I'll try to post a picture.  Upstairs in the attic is an expensive artificial Christmas tree that I meant to put out on the curb this year but we never got around to it.

We do have a lighted wreath outside.  It looks quite festive in the darkness.  DH has it on a timer.

On Christmas day most of my family will gather at my younger sister's house and we'll have a wonderful meal and enjoy one another's company for a few hours.

Hard to believe that 2011 is almost over, but it has been a good year for DH and me.

Kay- Sorry I missed you earlier!  Yay to new sleeves for the LE so you don't have to keep wrapping.  And hugs to you on starting herceptin again :(

I'm sorry to anyone who I miss when I post, the thread is so  busy and I find myself reading and then getting pulled away from the computer and then I go back again and miss people when I post :(  Then I see someone else comment and I realize I left someone out!

    Oh, Kay, long day!

Hurray for the sleeves!  I'm sorry about your cousin,  I hope they are doing OK.  Can you be a Santa to them?

We seem to be up to #10 or 11 going to the Unitarian Church Christmas Eve services together now which is so nice.

Michelle- LOL at the hair (sorry) It is growing in nicely though and you look beautiful!Laughing

Carol- Sounds like my house i only have my kitchen bay window decorated but only because i dont want my neighbors to think im a scrooge, there homes all look georgous on this block, i do have a beautiful reef on my inside door that is huge but that is about it.

Laurie-The threads have been pretty busy lately so it is hard to keep up.

Bedo- I may go to a christams eve mass if my friend is able to go, last time i went my DH and i went with 4 other couples, i told them i needed a joint to come down after that LOL!  I dont go often but when i do it puts me on ahigh!

Just got back from a boat trip on Nick's boat, it is too cool to swim all though the water is so beautiful.  Beautiful fish also, we went out to the Vixon which is a ship wreck a few miles out and through bread overboard and these huge white fish came up and out of the water to eat it.  We stopped at an Island that Nick's cousin owns and tied up the boat to have lunch it was sooo nice and serene.  I posted the spiney lobster tail I had on FB at the Lobster Pot in Hamilton.  It is alot milder than Maine lobster.  But still delish.

    Hugs to all!!

did ya see my drawing in the sand on Horseshoe Bay!

wow- now it's so quiet here!  I think we are all cooking and getting ready for Christmas!

Deb- your day sounds wonderful!!  So glad you are getting to enjoy the warmer weather and time with your family on top of it all!

Debbie- I don't decorate a whole lot either.  Candles in the windows and a few thing inside here and there.  DH wants to put lights on the bushes but I say no.  They would be there year round, I just know it.

Today was another whirl wind.  Dropped the boys at my in laws at 8:30 finished Christmas shopping, went too PT, got my hair cut, came home and have been baking and wrapping all afternoon.  I am going to cook my pulled pork tonight overnight so I won't have to think about it tomorrow.  Once the boys go to bed I am just going to wrap, wrap, wrap.

I grabbed a take and bake pizza from the grocery store that we are going to have tonight.  After baking all afternoon I do not feel like cooking.  Glad I know myself well enough that I planned on it!!

Why is nothing baked at the same temp?  I had to do each thing one at a time which is kind of annoying.  Banana bread, brownies, beer bread, quiche and chocolate chip cookies.  All different temps?  Another reason why I hate baking.

Home from rads #18 and now I have 3 days off for my skin to recover a bit.  The traffic was a non-issue today, although DH and I went to lunch in the North End then went to our favorite pastry shop and waited for almost 45 minutes to get desserts for tomorrow night.  The place was crazy busy!  And the rad center was running 45 minutes behind, so I had to wait a bit, but no big deal.  We weren't going anywhere...lol!

Deb - I saw your pictures, beautiful!  And your message to us!!!  It looks and sounds like you are having a fabulous time!

Laurie - what a busy day you had!  I hope you have time to relax a bit over the next few days.

Debbie - I didn't decorate outside either.  We just took a drive around the lake to see what the "neighbors" did, and it was surprisingly dark.  I expected more people would have had decorations up, but I guess not.

My DD called us and told us that my granddaughter has strep...my SIL had it at the beginning of the week, plus they've both had ear infections. We are spending the night tomorrow night so it will be a miracle if I don't get sick!  Wild horses wouldn't keep me from being there Christmas morning, so I guess we'll all just have to wash our hands, and I will make sure I don't eat or drink anything that she has touched. These kids are sick ALL the time!

We are having chili in a few minutes.  DH is watching another version of A Christmas Carol, his favorite movie and it doesn't matter which version.
