LOL! Was it the weed? I did that too to get to the good and of course with beer hahha!

Making chili and cornbread for dinner. Mine is really simple but has so much flavor- I brown up my hamburger with onions( drain well) 4-5 cans of kidney beans rinsed, put in large pot, add 2 to 3 large cans of whole peeled tomatoes, squeeshed with impecibley clean hands so you still have some chunks, add 2 packets of chili seasoning mix, red pepper flakes, garlic powder, s&p, l bring to a boil and let simmer for a few hours, on each serving in a bowl i top with cheese. As simple as it is everyone always ask me to make this.

    Hey Deb, where ya been?

    Everyone have a good weekend.

PS- Still waiting for the neurosurgeon to call for an appointment. His dr referred him to someone who is suppose to be the best in dealing with brain tumors, when i called there 2 days ago to see if his dr had called for a referrel she said yes but that dr was retireing in 10 days and not taking new patients but the other dr was one of his collegues and suppose to be very good too, his ass. will be out of the office until monday ugh!!  As we say here, the waiting sucks!!

    Bedo, you crack me up!!!

I tried to make reservations at Pickity Place but it was after 5 and they were closed.  I sent them an email and I'll try to get my chemo brain to remember to call tomorrow before we head off to the hotel.  We're doing a park and stay - it's about the same price as parking at the airport for 10 days.  And we don't have to get up quite so early on Sunday morning.

    Debbie,

The typo we're getting a chuckle out of is back a page... Where you were talking about deer... You typed 'beer' when I'm fairly certain you meant 'bear'.... Although weed is good, too! lol

chili sounds kind of good.. I don't really care for it myself, but everyone else seems to love it.. (plus I made some oldfashioned southern rice and beans and I could incorporate a bit of that stuff in there.

i am gone today from 3.30 to 5.30 so my cooking time is a bit challenged.

Easy dinner last night.  DH grilled a couple of small steaks.  I made baked tomatoes by slicing a giant tomato in half and covering the halves with topping of Italian breadcrumbs, grated Parm-Reg and EVOO.  They were so-o-o good.  And a chopped salad with a dressing of fresh lemon juice and mayo.  Oh, and the fresh-baked olive bread with a saucer of EVOO and cracked pepper for dipping.

The latest Nutrition Action magazine is about the low-calorie intensity diet.  Makes a lot of sense and is basically the WW approach to diet.  Eating the same amount of food in weight but increasing lower caloriie foods, mainly veggies.  Small amt of meat on the plate and more veggies.  Easier to do when summer veggies are being grown.

Awful weather news.  At least we Gulf Coast folks get a lot of warning about our hurricanes.

Gloomy day here this morning with the wind chimes jangling outside.  I

Carole:  I've been on what I call the "rabbit diet" for almost six months..no starch or sugar...just veggies, fruit, nuts, and lean protein.  The fat cells that were stored around my middle just melted away over that period of time and I am back to a size 4 which I haven't been in years!  Same thing happened with my boyfriend who is on same diet for his MS.  We feel better too!  I would highly recommend it as a first line of defense in preventing bc recurrence.

Last night we had grilled fish with roasted brussel sprouts and carrots and a big green salad with all the veggie trimmings.  Dried apricots and nuts for dessert.  I'm rarely hungry on this diet, and have very few cravings...unless I see a red velvet cake or something like that:)

Just letting you know we are confirmed for Pickity Place on Saturday, March 24th at 12:45 p.m.

    Laurie

    Michelle

    Deb

    Joyce

    Lynda

    Pat

    Sally

Let me know if you can't make it so I can adjust the reservation. Also if there is anyone else in the area who wants to join us, please let me know. I plan to stop at Parker's Maple Barn and get a jug of this year's maple syrup.  It's in the same area, in case you're not familiar with it.

I thought I had posted this earlier but I guess not...

We have checked into the hotel in Boston and will go out to dinner later.  I am officially on vacation!!!  DH has to work Mon - Wed, although even he admits it's a bit of a boondoggle.

Apple- Love the new picture of YOU in the avatar!!  You are beautiful!

Carol- your dinner sounds so good, you just made me hungry:)

Michelle- I hope you have safe travels tomorrow, have fun in Florida!

Debbie- I hope everything is going ok with your DH, thinking of you.

Karra- I did a similar diet years ago and I too lost a lot of weight.  I went from a size 12 to a size 4 in under 4 months.  Then I went to Aruba and went off the diet and never quite got back on it and the weight came back just as fast.  We don't eat a lot of carbs in the summer but am very guilty of it in the winter.

Joyce- I hope you are enjoying the time with your family, I know you will have ablast when you get back to Florida and can hang out with Michelle:)

The only chili I like is the one my DH makes, it has a sweetness to it and just a little kick.  I try others and never get past one bite.

I have no idea what is for dinner.  I spent the morning spring cleaning my bedroom until it was time to take DS #1 to soccer, now it is ripped apart and needs to be rearranged and put back together.  I have to accomplish that before we go to sleep.  My youngest has a belly ache and has gotten sick a few times today.  I think it may be a fend for yourself night.  I am not feeling very creative and I need to work on the bedroom.  I know it will feel great to sleep there tonight.

I had no idea when I started this thread that it would take off the way that it has!  I just thought it would be fun.  What made me do it was a couple of my girlfriends from high school (that I keep touch with on Facebook) and I swap recipes.  There are even days when someone will send out a message and say I have chicken- what the hell do I make tonight?  lol!

My youngest DS is so hard to read with sickness, he acts fine and then he throws up!  Then he acts like he is fine again and repeat.  Right now he is watching a cartoon and eating a graham cracker.  Hopefully whatever it is passes quickly and is not shared.

Also- note the time I started the thread- I was making dinner!

Michelle, thanks for making the reservation...even while you are en route to FL! I'd love to check out the maple syrup place too. And yes you did mention it in a former post.

I am having a really lazy day, so was glad the weather was stay-in worthy....tho now the sun is emerging just as it is going down. Had an outrageuos dinner last night...spontaneously at midnight.

DH had signed us up to go to the Boston Ballet and backstage tour afterwards thru an alumni org he belongs to. We thought we'd be eating at the pre-performance reception (heavy hor d'oeuvres were listed), but "heavy" was a misnomer and we watched three really interesting contemporary performaces on empty stomachs. Went to the really cool tour of the backstage, and then headed home around 11PM ( a stretch for me after working all week, and feeling exhausted). As we headed to the Pike, and drove through Chinatown we both thought, Wow wouldn't Chinese food be great right now!! But we were in the left lane and couldn't avoid getting on the turnpike....so did the next best thing.... used DH's trusty IPhone to locate a Chinese restaurant in our town that was still open (it was helpful to recall where DS2 and teenage friends used to call at that hour after a big night of watching sports at our house), called in the order for spring rolls, hot and sour soup, and egg foo yung. I don't usually even

like that kind of Chinese food! Shamelessly we chowed down at midnight....and I didn't even give a thought to my resolute avoidance of any foods with soy in them. Back to making some healthy soups today...plan to use your cool recipe maker site, Bedo, since I'm not motivated to go to the store. Thanks for that!!

    Carrie, Syracuse is looking good!

Laurie, hope young son changes the pattern soon, and you can finish the organizing. :)

Debbie, hope ass doc is good on heads also. ;) The jokes about this remind me about the gastro doc on Seinfeld who had the license plate "assman". This poor neuro guy might forever be assdoc to you after all this banter.

Hope you "Florida snowbird sisters" have a great time together....looking forward to meeting many of you on the 24th.

Off to figure out what to do with my excess broccoli supply. Mentioned the idea of the rabbit diet to DH, and he looked stricken! He is our biggest carb eater....never saw a bread he couldn't eat! He manages to keep the weight off with a religious exercise regimen.

Have a good evening everyone. Sorry for such a long post....

    Pat

Lacey12:  LOL...  I hear you on the stricken DH look!  The only reason my boyfriend went on this diet with me is because it was recommended for his MS.  He is a carb and dessert fool!  He suffered more than I did in the beginning, but now he is better than me at keeping to the diet, and he loves his new flat stomach.  Who said men aren't vain!

That menu sounds delicious! Wish I lived closer!

crap cakes.. that's what my daughter makes.. pink mixes usually,.. but they are cute, she has fun, and the boys do eat at least 1/2 of it.  We do have crows to feed.

i get a lot of gifts from a spice shop Penzey's? here in town..  I think there was a give away promotion and my friends pass them on to me.

anyway, i fixed chicken breasts with alot of these small spices in bottles.. a little garlic and olive oil, pasta with parmesan, olive oil and lots of garlic, broccoli, carrots and peas.. all separate. ... good but normal for our household.  We usually have a salad, but a lot of it is often leftover and I'm going to put it on the backburner till the weather get a bit warmer... not that one cooks salad.

Oh Apple - I keep thinking I should mention Penzeys since I've never heard anyone else bring it up.  For anyone who cooks or bakes, just walk in one of the stores and you'll think you're in heaven.  I signed up for their catalog so several times a year I get a coupon for something free.  Even if there isn't a store close to you, the catalog is great reading w/delicious recipes.
