The desserts sound really good!  I don't know if I have ever had key lime pie?

Apple I agree- lol at the crows!  I have a bird feeder on my window and we got lots of birds at it.  They say you should take it down in the spring because of bears.  Two years ago a bear did rip ours down, but I never saw him, just the destroyed feeder.  But now is the time of year when all the really colorful birds come back so I leave it up.  The Red Breasted Grosse Beak is my favorite :)

I just dropped off a chicken pot pie for my friends dinner tonight.  I made one for myself while I was at it so that will be our dinner tonight as well. So my dinner is all ready to go in the oven and it's only just after 3.  Feels weird to be so ahead of the game!

I hope everyone had a great day!

YUP, 5 years ago around 6:00 PM March 27 I got the call.  July 26th I will be finished completely with treatment.  The past few years Arimidex has taken its toll on my muscles and joints.  That stuff sucks all the estrogen out, which is good in my case I was over 90% ER/PR.

Deb - At 5 years post diagnosis you have officially joined the  DISH Club (DISH = DAMN (in a good way) I'm still here). As a GOLD level DISH member you have earned the following:

** Renewed Perspective. No more having to devote daily attention to the
Things that Really Matter in Life. Set yourself free from the Big Issues
and immerse yourself in trivia again. Imagine the luxury of being able
to gossip once more (we call it "dishing," of course), worry about what
the neighbors are saying about you, nag your children about
chores....why, the possibilities are limited only by your imagination!

** Retirement planning. So what if you and hubby have already spent your
nest egg on that round the world trip! It's time to revive your plans to
purchase that mobile home you used to dream about.

** Either a special pink ribbon lapel pin in Austrian crystal, or black T-Shirt, XXX size only,
stenciled in pink puffy script with the words, "Five years ain't chopped liver."

    AND

** The "Abby-Normal" Humanitarian Award for sticking around to help others, long after you could have returned to your ordinary life (includes a special signed edition of the "Beyond the Call of Duty" plaque with crossed squirt guns insignia, embossed with 14K gold leaf.

The DISH Club was founded by fellow BC survivor, Musa Mayer. I don't think she'd mind that I'm handing out memberships on BCO.

Yay Deb!  I have 4 and 1/2 years to go!

Apple, I am so glad that you are done with WBR!  Yippee!   I used to have a dog who was psycho about crows, (my avatar, Austin)  They would land on the back deck once or twice a day and he would go nuts and try to chase them away!!  Even if you asked him quietly, "Austin, are there crows out there?"  He would howl and run to check.  He was part blue tick, maybe it was the hunting dog in him. I'm going to try to find "crow sounds" on the web.  They may be like whale songs.  So beautiful

I'm thinking pizza. Annie's Homegrown frozen Rising Crust  Organic Spinach and Mushroom Pizza with Garlic Parmisan Cream Sauce. I am such a good cook.

Still missing the NH crowd.  Maybe I should move to NH!

    Apple,

Glad to hear that the WBR is done! As for a special dessert for easter I'm thinking I may just try a tiramisu... I have ordered it when we've been out but have never tried to make one myself....

    Deborye,

So happy to hear about you hitting the 5 year mark!!! Funny how I can barely remember what I was doing yesterday at 3:22 but, I sure remember what I was doing at 3:22 on the day I got that call....

Lynda - love the DISH club award!!!

Woohoo, Deb!!!  Congrats on hitting five years!

Apple - so glad you have finished WBR!

I am dead tired, but my son's apartment is empty and clean.  My house has boxes and bins everywhere, but I can tackle that on my own schedule.  We gave away so much stuff...just ridiculous.  We went out to eat on our way home from his apartment.  I had lamb chops and caesar salad...and beer.  Did I say I was tired???

bottom line.. i need to make more desserts for my family.. i was cheffing at many places including an awesome Swiss/French bakery with the most delicious desserts.  I need to recreate these recipes for my family  while I am still here.   I made all these torts, special individual desserts, the most incredible  cakes...... I really love a flan (baked custard) made with a carmelized sugar bottom in the individual dish.. I used to burn them almost on purpose so i could take them homeand eat them several times a day.  .

I was a cyclist /  racer and could consume up to 4 to  5000 calories daily.   I would start my day out with 4 raw eggs and a cup of cream with about 1/2 cup sugar......  I'd then ride my 25 miles before going to work cheffing as hard as i could all day.  i don't know why i was born with such energy..  just was.  I weighed about 110 and could go for 12 hours without stopping except for more food.  i absolutely loved it.. i rode after work too if the weather was fine. ... in the winter i would practice the piano for about 5 hours.. definitely a nut.

oh man those burnt flans were superb.

edit.. i am almost at the five year mark.. one more year.. i feel pretty darn good and not in danger of passing on.. i still pretty much do all i used to. .. not bad for stage four.  I think i am going to start working out vigorously and then conquer the yard.. dig up all the bad plants.  collect the fallen branches, learn how to maintain and work the tractor and spruce up this scruffy  place.

The thing to do is spend 5000 dollars on landscaping but we are not the money spending type.  we just work ourselves.  Now that i am earning my own money and a fair amount of it.. i just might hire someone.

Very very impressive apple, WOW 25 miles.  As a kid I used to ride my bike everywhere around town and my Mom never worried about strange people in those days.

Never heard of Boulevard beer, I have seen a lot of crazy names for wine.  I have one called Sassy Bitch.

    Apple,

My Mom is from Cuba and she really makes a mean Flan.... Your post has made me think that I wouldn't know the first thing as to how to make it.... I really need to be better about learning the recipes from my Mom and passing those recipes, as well as my own, on to my children....

Thanks in part to a thread on BCO started by fuzzylemon to her children I have started a journal to my children... Mostly talking about day to day things but also incorporating the recipes for dishes that I make that are their favorites! Those dishes that were made with love and wrapped in memories of such great times! Who knows, I may even include some that totally didn't work with a note saying... Remember when I made this.... OMG what was I thinking....lol

Congratulations Deb on reaching the five year mark!  That is quite an accomplishment.  I've just started on my tamoxifen and I'm not sure I'll be on it in a year, let alone five, but I'll hang in there as long as I can stand it.  My BS told me yesterday that if he had to choose between rads or hormonal therapy, he would choose the hormonal because of the long term protection it offers.

Congrats Deb! Hope you fully take advantage of your new DISH club membership!
    Very cute, Hauntie.

Apple..also congrats, and loved your memory of earlier times. You and our east coast energizer bunny (Michele) would match well. :)

Hope you get to log in some serious well-earned time in your lounge chair, Michelle. Lucky son!

Tonight DH imported dinner (kebabs, salad and grilled veggies) from our favorite local Greek restaurant, since it was "his turn to cook". I have really been fatigued this week...even more than usual. Maybe the Tamoxifen? Really hate dragging like this. Have a surgery follow up Thursday and MO on april 6th, so will check out this fatigue business with them.

    Deb, too funny!

    Deborye,

Those wine names can be so interesting.... Had one at a wine tasting called Fat Bastard.... and another called Mommy's Time Out.... Wouldn't say either was a fine wine but they weren't bad either and the names were pretty darn good.... lol!

Lacey:  The tiredness is probably coming from the tamoxifen.  I'm having it as well.  Most days if I don't lie down for a short nap, then I'm asleep on the couch by 8:00 pm and then can't sleep overnight.  Today I slept from 4:00 until 6:00 and now here I am at the computer wide awake!  This can't be good for the body, but lying in bed without sleeping is worse.  This time last year I had so much energy!

Michelle- ARe you tired? LOL! Get some rest your lamb chops sounds yummy!

Apple- Wow you are amazing riding all those miles then going to work all day. You must get up pretty early to get so much done in one day wish i had half the energy that you do.

Seaside- I love tiramisu i make my own but the last time i made one the marscapone was bad and didnt know it until all the work i did was done. It kind of left a sour taste in my mouth.... lol  I made a recipe book for my DD and DS one pink and one purple i put a lot of work into it for them it took me a couple of years, i worked on it off and on. I put memories in there with some of the recipes i had made with pictures too. It gave me great joy to do this for them.

Hauntie- I love the idea of the Gold awards.

kaara- I hope you are able to handle all the se of the tomoxifen i tryed all of them and couldnt tolerate them the bone pain was horrible for me- Hope they are kind to you

Lacey-Maybe they can change your tx plan to somthing else maybe you will tolerate another one better.

Speaking of beer and wine- I have a wine that me and DH got at a wine and spirtis show a couple of years ago, it is called... Pink Pousse i hate the name but it is funny the wine it self is real pink we have not opened it and dont think we ever will lol

Apple, caramel flan is wonderful. I used to make it for dd and her cousins when they were small. They all loved it, and since it was just eggs and milk, I figured it was nutritious for little kids :)

speaking of pie.. i am not a big creamy pie fan but do make this for the boyscout bakesale.

    piecrust

    peanut butter

    cream cheese

    powdered sugar

    a bit of milk

    and cool whip.

We have a rule.. only one pie per family and I make six to ten.  I'll find a recipe - anymore, i just make a huge bowl with two huge jars of peanut butter, about 8 cream cheeses, 4 big tubs of cool whip and a big bag of powdered sugar.. must have mixer.

Everyone absolutely loves it... not my fave but it does really taste nutritious.. i suppose if you made it with real whipped cream it would be super good.

    RECIPE

Ingredients 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar1 cup peanut butter1 cup milk1 (16 ounce) package frozen whipped topping, thawed2 (9 inch) prepared graham cracker crustsDirections Beat together cream cheese and confectioners' sugar. Mix in peanut butter and milk. Beat until smooth. Fold in whipped topping. Spoon into two 9 inch graham shells peace and love, apple - aka, Mary Magdalen

Was there supposed to be a picture of the beer, Sally?

Apple - that pie sounds decadent! One of those desserts where you need just the tiniest sliver.

DH is coming home later tonight.  I'm going to waste away this day, maybe go to the casino.  All by myself.  I should stay home and figure out what to do with all the stuff we brought back from my son's place.  But nope, not gonna do it.  Gonna make myself happy today!

Michelle,  YES give yourself a break!  You are always doing for others...now take time for yourself. And win some money...that would be the icing on the cake.

Deb Congrats on the 5 year mark  Wahooo!  When I started on the Tamox and they said its for five years I remember thinking that five years is a long time, but I guess it will go by fast, right?

Apple  you are truly an inspiration. I too need to attack the yard, but that is one of my passions working outside. I did not get the clearance from the doc to do any pushing or pulling yet and I really need to do some raking and picking up sticks before I can mow, kills me looking at it every day. Its my therapy and helps me sleep at night, getting all that fresh air.

Lacey I am tamox also, and I dont think it makes me tired, although I do have days where a nap is needed.  Cant remember what surgery you had...maybe your body still recovering and telling you to rest.

My favorite wine  Liquid Wisdom....there is actually a disclaimer on the bottle that states "drinking this wine will not make you smarter" he he  I will try anything!
