Bedo - your daughter really said "nerd"?  How old is she?  I thought that word went out of style years ago.  If you don't use a plastic pocket protector she's probably wrong.  Do you pour the gingerale in the scrambled eggs?  Can't imagine that.  Or drink it separately?

My dinner was the last of the Boudin sourdough bread I carried home from San Francisco  - with lots of butter - and a bag of frozen brussel sprouts.  Nothing like balanced eating.

I'm right with you all about dentists - ugh - and also keep my flour & sugar in the freezer.  Things I don't freeze are sealed in Tupperware.  (yup - I still have lots & use it often)

Hi ladies, my computer is being worked on, so I'm having to type this on my phone, which I hate. Thank you so much for your supportive words with my son. I have truly needed them and you all made me feel so much better. I also love the fact that I'm not the only one scared of the dentist! What did these mad men do to us?

I'll write more tomorrow when I'm back up and running. Just wanted to say I've been reading and laughing out loud and loving all of you.

Minus two.  My daughter is 29.  I will not pour the ginger ale on the eggs, lol.  I will put cheese on them and drink the ginger ale.  I was only allowed liquids today. I had a bone graft oral surgery today, I know, gross, but tomorrow I can eat soft foods. You are funny!  Smile I took vicoden and I probably didn't make a lot of sense!  For some reason it's making me stay up.  Plus I had to take my daugher  to the ER tonight.so we will be together all weekend.

Lauie, get yer puter fixed so we can talk with you!  I am sorry about any misspellings, I have drops in my eyes.  (GD arimidex, and thank you very much for the dry eyes side effect)

Deb, that picture of the dentist made my heart  pound.  I thought, "AHHHHH!!!"

i need to visit the dentist.. i had a filling fall out..  i don't want to waste a trip.. i absolutely hate going and the assistant who thoroughly cleans my teeth only talks about HER boobs. I'm out of gas for the grill.. but may buy a couple tanks and get that taken care of.. the kitchen stays a lot cleaner when the boys do the grilling.. the girlie too.. they actually fight over who gets to man the fire..  i certainly am not in the mood to cook.. probably pork of some sort with that cauliflower that i still haven't served.

Apple.. Ask for headphones! (at the dentist)  Tell her they help you relax during the cleaning.  That way you don't have to hear the caw! caw! caw!  I hope your day gets better.

II just realized that I missed the whole point of your post so I deleted the beginning.  D'oh!

    I'm sorry about your tooth

It snowed last night ARRRGGG!  mostly rain mixed with snow!

Today we are going out to an outdoor wine festival with music and vendors...will wear my snow gear ha ha!  Trying to find fun things to do while my daughter is home.  Yesterday we did some wineries so that she could stock up back home.

No Cooking this weekend till breakfast tomorrow.

Apple, sorry your weekend is starting out this way....hope you can get that tooth tended to w/o any added prattle. Maybe bring an Ipod with earplugs and tell them you have to listen for relaxation or for a work related task, and zone out. Yes, we are always glad we have that extra tank at the ready when the gas runs out...nothing worse than 1/3rd cooked chicken breasts! Picked up a nice big head of cauliflower and will try your marinated recipe.

Carrie, hope you have fun today despite the nasty weather....ours has returned to damp wintery mode also...so I am back in the cooking mood, just need to stay awake!

As I write this I'm seeing a montel williams infomercial for his super blender, Healthmaster, to make healthy smoothies, soups, etc. Anyone know anything about this product? They have yet to reveal the price.

Well, just looked up the amazom reviews on the Healthmaster and will pass on it.

Hate to have to go with the really expensive other models, but will check them out. I am desperate to try to see if going with constant healthy veggie mixes will offset some of ths fatigue.

Lacey - are you anemic?  My red counts were pretty low after chemo and radiation.  I have been taking a prenatal vitamin with iron and folic acid, plus making sure I get close to 100 grams of protein a day.  I think it makes a huge difference with the energy levels.  My last bloodwork showed my levels to be in the normal range.

Oh how I hate running out of gas for the grill.  We had a natural gas grill in Missouri, it was simply brilliant.  We never, ever ran out.  And having it installed wasn't that expensive in the big scheme of things.  We did it as part of the housebuilding.

Apple- You should polietly tell the assisstant that you would rather not talk about cancer or boobs or as others suggested get bring in an ipod or headphones and put them on as soon as you sit down.

Carrie- Have fun today at the festival with DD, drive safe in the snowy weather

Michelle- Do you get your 100 mg of protein, do you take protein powder? Seems it would be hard to count it in food and have never taken a protein powder before, any you recommend?

  • LuvRVing
    LuvRVing Member Posts: 2,409

Debbie - I don't use protein powder.  There's 50 grams of protein in 6 ounces of steak, 40 grams in a boneless chicken breast, 18 grams in 6 ounces of greek yogurt, and a 6 ounce hamburger patty has 32 grams.  I may not always get 100 grams, but it's not that hard to get close.  I am a carnivore, and I can eat an 8 ounce piece of steak, no problem.  Then there is cheese, eggs, beans, nuts, etc.

Michelle- I eat a lot of eggs and cheese and meat too so im probably getting enough that way too. I also wanted to ask you,  im making the baked apple pancake recipe of yours for DH tomorrow morning for his day off and wanted to ask if you did end up using the pancake mix when you were out of flour and was it just as good, i have both but thought it would be easier with the already mix. And is it good for leftovers?

Chuck brought home some apple bacon from one of his vendors yesterday thought the apple pancakes and the apple bacon would be so good together, my mouth is already watering i might do a test run right now lol

Debbie - I think pancake mix would be OK, but using the recipe (with 4 eggs in it) creates a very puffy, light pancake.  It takes about 2 minutes to dump it all in a one quart measuring cup and mix it with my stick blender.    And yes, it would be yummy with the apple bacon!

Your right it does sound like an easy recipe so i will stick to your original. Thanks Michelle!

Not sure why I had not even thought of that, Michelle. I will probably have blood work done late this week since I'll see the MO and will be sure to let her know about my concern of being so lethargic.

iI would be happy if I could just get half of my energy level to return.

Thanks for your breakdown of protein contained in those meats....and I'll ask about the pre-natal vitamins.

So am also thinking of investing in a Vitamix blender..... the two speed one what is less than $400 on Amazon. The reviews were positive....is this what some of you have?

Carole, just came across this recipe/video for raw kale and avacado salad. She explains how the dressing "cooks" the leaves so they are not tough. I find that when I cut the kale leaves into narrow strips and dress it, the toughness is not a factor at all....but everyone's sensory systems are unique, and it may be bothersome to some and not to others. Actually none of the kale salad recipes I have gotten online suggest to blanch the kale first. The woman in this video clearly loves to play with her food! :)

Personally, I'm not in to puree'd fruits and veggies, and prefer more crunch/texture in my food.  So I would never spend that kind of money on a juicer/blender.  I hardly use a regular blender, to be honest.  I use the little stick/immersion blender for a few simple blending chores or to make an occasional fruit smoothie with yogurt and berries.

I made the apple pancake batter and saute the apples then just did a little small amount in a muffin tin and put the batter and apples in the fridge so it will be ready to bake tomorrow but this is so good i cant wait to make it again tomorrow. The applewood bacon has an awesome taste too. And i used my stick blender for the first time since i bought it over a year ago yeah me! it was so easy cant belive i havnt used it before for soups ect

Lacey- Hope you get your energy back up and maybe like michelle said you just need some iron. Hope you feel better soon.

. I wouldn't spend that much money on a vitamix either but if you use all the gadgets and get your moneys worth than its probably worth it.

I think you ladies may have just saved me a wad of cash. I'm embarrassed to admit that I do have a stick blender, and have used it once in a year. Maybe I should try to use that more before deciding on the other "major" appliance. I do like the idea of putting kale in a blender (my current old one would not do the trick) with fruit and having it be tasty as well as healthy.

On the other end of the spectrum.....that pancake breakfast sounds sooooooo good....sure beats the matzoh ball soup I am making from a package.... purely because I never have and know DH will appreciate it. Of course I am busy putting all sorts of veggies in the broth since it looks boring to me.I guess it will be matzoh ball soup plus.

Lacey- I think the matzoh ball soup with veggies sounds really good and healthy, just think its healthier and less calories and better for you so you arnt missing out really, If i told you it was terrible would it make you feel better lol!

The soup turned out fine...tho would never be my favorite. DH enjoyed it...and we ended up making it a deli night by getting cold cuts and cole slaw and making sandwiches to go with the soup and Apple's marinated cauliflower salad. DH likes strong flavors so really enjoyed that as did I.

Lacey:  I have the Vita Mix Blender, the 5200 Series and it is great.  I think I paid about $449 for it, and it comes with a 64 oz container and a nice cookbook with tons of recipes.  It's one of the best investments we've made and it immeidately replaced our juicer which was large and difficult to use and clean.  I can also make blended hot soups in it.  It will make enough smoothies to last a couple of days for two people.  It will pulverize anything..peels and all.

I cooked the Oysters Mosca tonight and it was as good as I hoped.  We also had a big garden salad with romaine, tomato, cucumber, yellow bell pepper, avocado.  Sweet onion in DH's salad and a few Greek olives in mine.  Slices of freshly baked Tuscan brown bread.  I'm getting better at the bread baking with some practice.  I really like eating bread that I made myself with no mystery ingredients!

Today I cleaned my porch and patio and fountain and planted more herbs in some of the planters and also planted lettuce and arugula in a couple of the planters.  In April I begin another membership in a CSA that will go for 12 weeks.

As for juicing, I would rather eat the fruit and veggies than drink a liquid.  I like the texture along with the taste.

Debbie, I think the maple kind sounds good.  (bacon)

    But yours is probably better.

I'm making your pea soup for sure tomorrow.  I have all the ingrediants.  I bet it will be really good!

My daughter will go into the hospital Monday.  She has been staying  with me or her BF until then.  Please think good thoughts for her, or hold her in the light or say a prayer.

Sally- Your daughter is in my prayers, hope she is ok! Please let us know. Its actually applewood bacon and it is delicious, havnt watched the video yet will after i post this. Hope you enjoy the soup!

Carol- Sounds like you had a busy day! I got busy too since DH works til midnight on saturdays i decided to get get busy but instead of planting i ended up throwing 2 plants away there time has come and gone. I vacummed all the rooms cleaned the bathrooms mopped and did the inside windows. It rained so hard today and was windy that the rain was sideways hitting the windows so i dont have to clean the outside windows for awhile so i guess it came it handy. Im with you on the veggies i would rather eat than drink them although i know the benefits are better blended.
