    prayers for Sally's daughter.

I learned years ago that a teaspoon of molasses a day helps keep iron levels UP^.  i always had 2 before donating blood.  lots of other heart healthy minerals and it tastes fantastic.

bedo:  Saying prayers for your daughter!

I've managed to get out of cooking all weekend...italian Friday nite and mexican last night after the movie.  BTW...don't bother to see Hunger Games...I read the book and thought I would like to see the movie since it was filmed on location near our summer home, but the movie wasn't that good.

Bedo, healing thoughts for your daughter, and hugs to you as you wait.

That dog video is a riot..... had seen it before and forgot how funny/clever it was.

Apple, interesting idea about the molasses.....hope today is starting out better.

Good morning!!!  We are lazy this morning, I actually slept in until 8:45 and DH is still snoozing at 9:30.

Bedo - sending healing thoughts to your daughter and you.

Kaara - I read the book and have been debating about the movie.  I hear there's a lot of footage done with the hand camera effect, so the screen is jumpy.  Not sure I want to see that on the big screen.  I might just wait for it to come to video.  I have been debating whether or not to read the next two books.  I found the first one disturbing, and I am surprised that the intended audience is young adults.

I don't always cook much on the weekends, either.  I did make the Apple Tarte Tatin from The Chew last night.  I really liked it, but my caramel got a little overcooked even though I closely followed the recipe.  My stovetop's medium heat must be higher than others.   I substituted Splenda for 2/3 of the sugar but that shouldn't have caused a problem.  I'd make it again and leave it on the burner for half the time, which should also preserve a little more of the texture of the apples.

Michelle, thanks for your "book review". You are the only person I know of who suggested that it felt disturbing, which is what I would expect....thus I have yet to pick it up. Maybe it's not fair for me to have this opinion since I have not read the book (but got a detailed summary from a co-worker who loved it) nor seen the movie, but I keep hearing about our 5th graders being taken to see it, and am horrified, given the theme. So young adults would be one thing........

That Apple Tarte Tatin sounds like fun to try.

DH and I are heading into town to meet up with DS2, to go to lunch and the Celtics/Heat game. I may be pushing protein and molasses to get through the day, which I've really been looking forward to.

Michelle:  Please don't waste your time with the other two books...I thought they were boring and more of the same.  Not at all what I had expected and I couldn't wait to be done with them.  It is definitely a Netflix movie, and yes, now that you mention it, there was a lot of jumping around with the camera in certain scenes.  The young kids love it...I heard girls in the restroom saying they had already seen it three times...ugh!  I almost fell asleep, and my boyfriend was twisting in his seat which means he doesn't like what he is seeing:(  That means he gets to pick the next movie, so I'll have to see something that will be pure adrenalin from start to finish!  He's funny...pretended not to like the Twilight movies, but wanted to know when the next one was coming out..hehe!

    Prayers to your daughter Sally.

Lacey hope you have a great day out with your family.

My daughter also said she did not like the hunger games movie...she said the books were way better.

Debbie  that breakfast sounds super good.  Pncakes always look and smell great to me, but then I can only eat like 2 bites and I remember that I dont really like them.  I do love french toast though, and of course bacon is always a hit.

Gonna be lazy today and chill with my daughter before she heads back to the city :(

luvRVing.. i thought of you on my country drive.  redbuds are indigenous to this area and i came across practically a whole forest of them in bloom ..hundreds of trees.

i made an awesome pasta with wide egg noodles which my husband loves for dinner.. i certainly could do without that type of noodle (except for beef stroganoff), italian sausage, feta, whole canned tomatoes, red pepper, garlic, onion and lots of fresh garden herbs.. i ate two bites but it was a hit with the family.. also overdone microwaved cauliflower..which the fam also  loved.  i like a bit of crunch and bite. also bread and butter.. i thought that sounded good but the super bakery bread was very very white.  oh well...

i had some ice cream.which i've really never eaten in my life till these last few weeks when i am very appetite challenged. ,   My mom loved ice cream  and ate it every day of her life once she was out of the convent and married.  my first job was at Baskins and Robbins and i swear i didn't eat ice cream for almost 30 years..  it tastes really good lately.  cool, creamy.. yum.

in the sixties,  i had those white cookies in the big big package and the  boys all chose the hydrox.   (i am the oldest of five boys and four girls).    We had dessert every day.. 2 cookies or ice cream, except for Lent and Advent.. a Catholic thing.

I think i will look for a Baskins and Robbins and get some pistachio almond.. it's kind of light green.. i really loved that.

Congrats on the five years deborey! Wonderful!

Carole, I used to be a huge harlequin romance reader. I am pretty sure I have read several of your books. Your psuedonym sounds really familiar. So cool!

Laurie, I agree with everyone else, you are a wonderful mother! Do not feel guilty about the dentist. I think cavities also has something to do with the bacteria in your mouth. I think some people are more prone to foster bacteria that causes cavities. I only in the last year overcame my fear of dentists. I had some pretty horrible experiences when I was young.

We are in Williamsburg for spring break with my DD and niece, having a great time. Tomorrow we're off to Busch gardens, was exploring colonial Williamsburg today. Went to an Indian restaurant for dinner tonight. I am not a huge fan of Indian food, but I enjoyed it. I do love nan, and I like spices. It's surprising I am not more of an Indian food person.

Bedo, prayers for your daughter. Please left us know how she is.

After DH got home from golf about 3 pm we went to a casino (not his) to gamble, we didnt leave until after 1am almost 10 1/2 hours we were there, Time just flew by, came home with forty dollars but had a great time. Im exhausted though.

debbie - my mom was raised in an orphanage by nuns .. she naturally chose a religious life.. it is very 'her' but thankfully never took her final vows.  Actually she met my dad the day she left the convent.. her sister set them up.

i love apple pancakes.. i'll have to back and look at the recipe i used to melt butter, melt brown sugar, add apple slices.. pour some batter in, flip it maybe and finish it the oven.  i use to eat it  all the time (the whole darn pan practically) in my cycling days.. man i need a ton of calories.

apple:  My DGM was raised in a catholic orphanage because her mother died young and her father was a cattle driver and couldn't care for her and her sister.  She told us harrowing tales of living there and I was scared to death of nuns for the longest time.  Every time I was bad, she used to threaten to send me to the convent to live!  All that said, she was the best grandmother in the world and we loved her dearly.

I think the ice cream thing is something that everyone who does doses of chemo seems to crave.  I remember my friend with lung cancer...it was all she would eat because she said it was all she could taste.  Just make sure you are getting enough other nutrition and protein to keep your strength up.  I haven't had ice cream in so long I forgot what it tastes like.  Sugar is my enemy now.

  • LuvRVing
    LuvRVing Member Posts: 2,409

I definitely ate ice cream last summer during chemo. It just tasted better than anything else, and I'm not a huge ice cream eater normally. It was nice to be able to eat it and not worry about weight gain!

We have decided to drive to Virginia Beach for Easter weekend. We did this several times, years ago, and enjoyed the beach and played golf. We are leaving Thursday afternoon...I am excited. I love road trips, I guess!

Apple - I saute my apples, butter, cinnamon and sweetener in a cast iron pan, top the apples with the batter and then bake it for about 15 minutes. I flip it on the plate afterwards.

By the way, I am using my new iPad with a wireless keyboard for posting. It works well except you get none of the formatting functions or ability to post a picture. Weird. I guess this will work for most everything, just not ALL things. Maybe I need to check out the BCO iPad app. Maybe it has more functionality. I guess I'd better go exploring. I also need to figure out how to tether this thing to my Android phone so I can use it in the car. I like to stay connected and I can do that with my phone and a netbook. I'm such a tech junkie!!!

Debbie- Glad you had fun going out to the casino!  Sounds like Chuck is doing much better?  I hope so.

Apple- You always have the most interesting things to share with us, thank you!  You have been to so many places and done so many things.

I love the nun stories.  I grew up going to Catholic schools, with the exception of a couple none of the nuns were very nice.  I remember being kept after school a lot in 7th and 8th grades by one nun who wanted me to practice my cursive hand writing.  She said I wrote like a boy and it was unacceptable.

So I finally have the computer back up and running!  We had a busy weekend as usual.  Oldest DS had soccer and we went to an Easter cookie decorating project at the library afterward and did that and got new books.  We ended up hanging out with our neighbors for the afternoon and got pizza for dinner with them.  On Sunday, we visited my sister inlaw and she gave the boys hair cuts.  My boys always have long mop tops, I love their hair!  My DH decided he wanted their hair "high and tight"  thats what he kept saying... DS#1 went first and she basically shaved his head.  I saved DS#2 a little.but his is just slightly longer than DS#1.  They look cute but so different!

Last night my brother and his girlfriend came over for dinner and we did kabobs and red potatoes on the grill with zucchini and yellow squash.  We don't do it often enough!

DS#2 just got up from nap and we are headed outside to play for a bit.  Tacos for dinner tonight.

Michelle you are so sweet thank you!  I know some of you saw the other picture I posted of DS#2 on facebook but for those of you not on, here he is with his new "do".  I caught him standing in such a funny way while he took a break from playing to notice the tv.

Laurie  Love your new avatar and those boys are adorable with the haircuts.

Went walking for the first time since surgery  Whew those 2 weeks of down time sure zappped my energy. Like starting from square one to build myself back up.

Tonight I am going to use leftover pork roast and marinate ins ome kind of sauce and peppers and onions and make quesadaillas.

Michelle  That key lime pie was a big hit...really refreshing. Thanks for re-posting for me.

  • LuvRVing
    LuvRVing Member Posts: 2,409

Carrie - glad you all enjoyed the key lime pie.  I haven't made it in a long time...might be something I whip up later this spring.

We're having slime-free burgers for dinner tonight. Laughing  Maybe DH will grill as it's quite nice out at the moment.  He probably won't stop working for another hour.

Apple - I think of you every time I do anything with ... apples!!!  Speaking of which, did I mention that I made that apple tarte tatin from The Chew.  I think the apples were too done, like applesauce almost, even though I used crispy Granny Smiths and they usually hold up really well.  So I will make it again, but I will reduce by half the time I cook the apples on the stovetop before adding the crust and popping it in the oven.  It was an easy recipe, though.

Laurie:  Your boys are so cute with their new trendy haircuts!  It brings back memories of getting haircuts for my three boys.  Their grandmother came to visit and thought their hair was too long so she marched them to the barbershop and got them shaved.  They were hysterical...came home and put skull caps on and kept them on for several days.  They finally forgave her and enjoyed the rest of her visit.

Tonight we had chicken breasts with vegetable stuffing, sweet potato and a green salad.  Now off to watch Dancing With The Stars!

Laurie, such adorable boys in their spring cuts! Glad to hear that you are back up and running with the computer.

Michelle, your road trip sounds like fun. And that apple pancake sounds sooo good!

Let me know if you find and set up the app you mentioned. I need techies to motivate me to try new things with my IPad. :)

Laurie~those boys of yours are sooooo cute.

Too cold here to grill, I would love to grill up some chicken.  I use to put the pieces in my pressure cooker with onions and then grill them, I should start doing that again.
