in the midwest we call it St. Louis Steak.. pork steaks.  My son kind of likes his meats underdone.. nice and juicy but i will insist on a well done one for me.

i am making a salad of garbanzoes, olives, mozarella, diced veggies and herbs and maybe we'll have the korean rice stick stir fry stuff.  yum - or macaroni and cheese.. i don't know.  i have troubles coming up with starches.  My boys are working with my husband on the property and they can EAT like horses.

    Thanks Kaara and MinusTwo,

I will ask my PCP for a patch presrcription when I see him in July.

Kaara, what was the reason for using 1/4 of a patch? I wonder if weight makes a difference in how big of a piece would be effective.... I will have to google around... Did you have any trouble when you removed the patch? I read of some who had some vertigo which they attributed to withdrawal from the patch...

Hi Deborye!! Been thinking of you! How are you feeling?

Seaside:  I use 1/4 of the patch because I have a fairly low weight (124 lbs)  My doc said why would a full patch be prescribed for someone who weighs what I do and the same for a 200 lb man?

If you use only 1/4 to 1/2 of the patch, you will avoid a lot of the SE's like the dizziness that sometimes happens when you get off the boat.  It's just logical thinking.

Hi everyone...busy, busy, busy here.  Not much cooking going on. We have been on and off the boat and at the marina for the past 3 days, then jumped back in with the schoolwork.  Having a short week puts me behind a little. Also had some pretty severe storms go through here yesterday, kind of tornado-like ripping up a lot of trees, was without power for about 3hrs.

Tonight our friends want to go out to dinner at the local italian place...not so sure I will go....dont like to spend the money.

Deb  hope you are getting better, let us know.

Carrie- we got lucky and the storms died down before they get to us.  When I saw what was headed our way I about pooped my pants!!!

Tomorrow is the day DS#1 gets his tonsils out.  We loaded up on ice cream, popsicles and gatorade today.  I'm nervous!!  He got to choose what we have for dinner tonight, he picked cheese burgers.  I am cheese burgered out but it's his choice.

I think I am just going to order the new oven on line through Sears.  I just don't have time to go to the store and shop for it and I need a working oven again sooner rather than later.  The one I think I am going to get is in stock so we should be able to get it in the next 2 days.

    Deb- How are you doing?

Carrie- Sounds like you had a great 3 days. Your storm sounds like it was really scarey!Surprised

Laurie- Good luck with your sons tonsils, i still remember when i got mine out. a sore throat but loved all the ice creams i got to eat. Crap Laurie whats up with all the dam storms you get in that area, i would of pooped my pants too after all you have dealt with on those storms. I heard one big rumble here last night that wasnt expected and it scared me but that was it just one big loud one and it was over, i prayed so hard, lol!

Deb- Please let us know if you are ok, hope your antibiotics kicked butt and your feeling better!

I wanted a salad for lunch but the lettuce was turning brown, then i realized i wanted a salad because of the croutons, so i put some croutons in a bowl and put some ranch over it, it was very satisfying!

No cooking tonight!  Whatever produce is left in the refrigerator will get packed in a cooler and go to NC!  Last night we had dinner at a friend's home...she is a wonderful cook...fish, some kind of summer salad with tomatoes, peppers, avocados, black beans and corn with a lime dressing, and a delicious rice she prepared in her rice cooker.  Then a layered ice cream dessert with chocolate on top...yum!

Tonight we're dining with friends at a local asian restaurant.

Debbie, DH and I ate at Tidal Raves when we wandered down the Oregon coast a few years ago.  The food there was very good.  I can remember that I had the crab cakes.  It's a very nice restaurant.

    Eric, the bread smells delicious!

I'm in Gulf Shores, AL, in an area popularly dubbed "LA" for "lower Alabama."  We're residing in our 5th wheel rv in the state park, which is very nice.   This morning we bicycled for a couple of hours.  Then we had lunch in nearby Orange Beach at an excellent restaurant, Shipp's Harbor Grill.  We both had the Grouper Pontchartrain, crisp panfried grouper filet served with a light buttery sauce with mushrooms and shrimp.  Sides were delicious green beans and gouda mashed potatoes.  The portions were just right.  Not large.

We sat on the outdoor veranda overlooking a marina with expensive-looking boats.  There was a delightful sea breeze. One of our good lunch experiences.

We talked to a couple in the restaurant who gave us some other good restaurant recommendations.

Deb, how are you?  And Michelle, we're waiting for more travelogue.

Laurie, I think about you as I watch all the young children out bicycling with their parents.

Kaara, hope you have a good trip to NC.

Hi to everyone else not mentioned by name.

son #2 has an uncanny knack for making delicious chicken salad.. it is just perfect and delicious.  I let him make that - he made about 5 pounds which should keep him satisfied for a couple days.  I am sauteeing mozarella sticks and serving it with this tomato sauce from this restaurant my friends own.  the sauce is sooooooooo good..

carrot sticks, sauteed brussel sprouts.. kind of balanced with something for everyone.

Five pounds? That long? He must be eating a bunch of other stuff too. :-)

Tonight will be a "snack shack" night.... red vines, pop corn, pixie sticks, hot dogs, etc.

I'm in the office (41 miles of cross town traffic between me and home) and DD has a softball game tonight.

    I will do better tomorrow.....

No need for food apologies here, Eric. Many have posted our snack dinners here.....the most popular being popcorn! What is a pixie stick and what is a red vine?

Am heading off to pack for a long weekend at my college reunion in South Bend, Ind. I will travel most of tomorrow to get there and most of Snday to get home. No direct route from Beantown to northern Indiana! Sadly, the forecast is for rain for the next two days....and only in the sixties temp wise. Maybe it will change....:) Looking forward to seeing my college friends!

Red vine is a twisted red licorice "rope" and a pixie stick is a straw looking thing with powdered candy in it. I don't think either would be considered health food... :-)

Unfortunately it will likely be our main meal...if we're lucky, there will be hot dogs.

Off to home..got a 90 minute drive home... I hate it.. I would move but my 94 year old mom and 80 some year old mother in law live near where we live now, my daughter is set up in high school near our house and the employer keeps moving....

Funny how the east vs west coast has different things and some we have never heard of, i have learned a lot of new food names and stuff from the east and mid west. Never would of thought no one heard of red vines or pixie sticks. So much sugar in the pixie sticks but still good and use to eat the red vines almost everyday. the black ones were good too.

Deb- Let us know how your app. goes tomorrow (((((((hugs)))))0

Since DH is off golfing so dinner for me will be a green ortega chile and jack cheese grilled sanny. Popcorn and chocolate chips for dessert tonight!

    Good luck Deb!

Debbie- I agree I have learned so much from this thread and met the best people to boot.  Thankful.

A woman I am friends with who is about the same age as I am, 38, just went into hospice and was given a two week time frame because of BC.  This just breaks my heart, why does it seem to never end?  She has two young kids and fought so hard doing trials etc and nothing worked for her.   Tonight I am heavy hearted and shaking my head.  Enough.

Deb,Glad you are on the mend! :)

Eric, I had no idea you meant candy. I do know pixie sticks, but red vines are known as twizzlers out here.

So sorry to hear about your friend Laurie.....very sad indeed.

Take out mushroom and onion pizza tonight with greek salad. Almost as good as Philly pizza but not quite.

    Deborye,

Nice picture!!! I think I see a lot of you in her with her eyes and, definitely, her smile!! So beautiful, just like her Mama!

    Laurie,

Cancer, of any type, is such a cruel disease! But it is especially sad when someone so young has been dealt with such an unfair hand! Enough, is right!

For those of us who almost remember Roosevelt in the Rose Garden & certainly remember bomb drills in school - long before there were Pixie Sticks we used to take boxes of jello, pour the 'powder' in our palms & lap it up.  Probably about the same sugar rush but lots less dignified.  So if you had raspberry - both your hand & your tongue were red.

Laurie - hope the tonsil experience isn't too taxing for you.  I remember when I was 4 and the pediatrician promised I would have all the ice cream I could eat as we got into the hospital elevator.  Sure - but my throat was too sore to eat it.

First water aerobics class tonight.  We've had an average of 13 the last three years, but got 19 tonight.  Wonder how many will stick once they discover how sore they are tomorrow after a winter of being slugs.

I completely blew my eating plan yesterday. We went to a benefit dinner at a chi-chi hotel and I ate the whole menu, including steak and chocolate mousse. I also had a glass of wine and white bread. Figured I might as well go all out while I was at it. It was good though.
