Debbie...I didn't see your post before I posted...
Look up
Velcro cable management
and also
3M cable ties
on your favorite search engine. That should give some ideas to get the tanglefoot cables under control.

Michelle, DH and I are watching the French Open at Roland Garros in Paris. I mean--we're watching it in our living room!
Chicago pizza was featured on an America's Test Kitchen segment. Uno's won't tell the recipe for its crust but there is butter in it. It's more like a pastry dough than the usual pizza dough. The unusual thing about the deep dish pizza is that the sauce does not go directly on the crust. It goes on last over the cheese and any other toppings. Uno's has an interesting history.
Laurie, glad your little guy is doing well.
Dinner tonight will be a meal at a restaurant after a movie. We're going with another couple to see the Exotic Marigold Hotel. DH heard that Judy Dench was one of the stars and he immediately wanted to see it. He's a real fan of As Time Goes By with Judy Dench on PBS.
13 miles isn't a long distance to bicycle. Our favorite way to bicycle is to choose a destination about half way. Park the bikes and have a delcious lunch at a little restaurant. Then bicycle back to where we started. Our longest trip was 25 miles roundtrip. That was in the UP of MI. We biked from the little town of Hancock to another little town, Calumet, on a Rails to Trails bike path. Fortunately for us, the first part of the trip was slightly uphill and the return trip was the same degree of downhill.
Kaara, it's amazing how much more energy I have when the humidity is low.
Hope everyone is enjoying the day.

Carol- your night that you have planned sounds wonderful. I can't remember the last time I did something like that. I think I heard that the movie you have chosen is really good too.
Eric- You are one well rounded guy, love it! Cheesecake and a handyman? Thanks for sharing the recipe.
It is a gloomy day here. It hs been pouring all day, not raining but pouring. I put both boys down for a nap around 1 and they still aren't up at the three hour mark. I should wake them...I know I should.... but...
Anyone have any ideas for what I can make for dinner that doesn't involve the grill or an oven? The only thing I can come up with at the moment is tacos. What I want is a roasted chicken, or meatloaf... but I guess I am going to have to be creative.
I am going to have to write in my kids journal that I keep for them. My son has eaten almost nothing but pancakes for three days. He has had a few popsicles, a couple of bowls of ice cream, frappes smoothies etc. I even got him to eat some clam chowder today. But the one thing he asks for over and over again is pancakes. I have made pancakes 4 times today already. No syrup he just holds them and eats them like a cookie. Kind of funny. I told him today if he didn't try different kinds of food he would turn into a pancake. He wasn't amused :P

Laurie: I think when they're recovering from something like surgery let them eat whatever they want as long as it isn't going to hurt them. The soft taste of the pancake must be soothing to his throat. I hear you about waking them up from their naps...they must need the sleep is what I think;)
I'm making chicken vegetable soup for dinner. It's chilly here in NC and I feel like some comfort food. I would love some biscuits to go with it, but that's a no-no on our diet...definitely not gluten free. I found a gluten free bakery here in the town where we are..it's run as a program to help young people who are having difficulty and are trying to get back into mainstream society. What a great idea...I am definitely going there to shop for some gluten free bread. There is also a gluten free pizza restaurant. This makes me so happy!

My fiancee and I learned a lot about cooking...and living. She was 21 when she died. I was 22. Ovarian cancer....it sucks too..."
....you mentioned tacos...how about chicken or fish tacos...
Or cook ground beef with tomato sauce and some taco seasoning or powdered onion soup mix (or?). ...cook macaroni...mix together and before serving keep warm for 20-30 minutes to let the flavors "mingle".

Thank you Eric, and that recipe looks delish.
Michelle, I am drooling over that food/dessert.
My FSIL loves to cook, he was a sous chef and put himself through college cooking at different place he did all the cooking while we visited them in Bermuda over Christmas.
I have not made homemade meatballs in a long time.

Eric that is such a sad story 21? really? cancer sucks!! they just had an article in the news about getting our own immune systems to attack the cancer. Doing something to get the outer layer of the cancer cell to let white cells come in and attack. Sorry for the simple explanation. Love the cheesecake recipe.
I planted an eggplant plant in my very simple little garden today.....very simple, tomatos, peppers, basil, and now an eggplant.
Going out tonight to hear an oldtime band from way back...no dinner for us, but tomorrow I am slow cooking a pork roast to make pulled pork sandwhiches and some for a meat sauce for spaghetti.

Eric- I am so sorry you lost your fiancee. That is such a young age to have to endure what you both went through. Although any age is really too young. But still.... Thanks for the dinner tips tonight
Carrie- Yum on planting eggplant! My Dad does a big garden and plants eggplant for me. He plants white and the Italian purple. Have you ever tried the white eggplant? It's the best!
So....we ate good food that is bad for you for dinner tonight. We decided to have appetizer foods. I made some Swedish meatballs, DH made homemade potato skins which he did half on the stove top and finished on the grill. We also took the kids mozzarella sticks that they peel and eat and made mozzarella sticks. It was good! DH's skins were super yummy. The kids drank fruit smoothies and ate more clam chowder, they wouldn't touch any of the rest of the food which was ok with us. This tonsils thing is really throwing us off our game with balanced meals. I was thinking I would make spaghetti and home made meatballs for dinner tomorrow night, but no oven to bake the meatballs and like an idiot we ate the frozen ones as Swedish style tonight-oops!

I haven't had potato skins in years. Used to have them occasionally at a restaurant called Friday's. They were decadent.
Eric, ovarian cancer is more evil than bc because it's so rarely detected before it has advanced. DH and I lost a dear friend to the disease and we still miss her. She grew up in the French Quarter and had some funny stories to tell about her background. My paternal grandmother had the disease. Since there is no approved screening, my gyn dr. and I agreed that I should alternate years with an ultrasound and the tumor marker blood test. I report symptoms to her.
The movie was entertaining, especially for an older crowd of viewers. Judy Dench and Maggie Smith were very good in their roles. The men actors were good, too, but I didn't catch their names. DH and I always watch the credits, but our friends hopped up along with much of the audience so we hopped up, too.
We went to a restaurant that had just opened up in a place where another restaurant had closed and the space had been empty for at least a year. The former restaurant was an "Italian Bistro." This new one is an "American Bistro." To our amazement this new restaurant has the SAME business plan as the old failed restaurant! Pricey menu a la carte. Numerous wait staff. Nothing familiar in the preparation of sides. For example, the potato cake that came with my entre was Purple Potato Cake. DH had a Polenta Cake under his barbecued shrimp. Long story short, the food was good, but not outstanding, and the bill was outstanding! We won't be going back there and the restaurant won't stay open any longer than its predecessor.
Laurie, I'll bet you give that new oven a workout when you finally get it!
Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

eric: Losing a fiancee is very sad, but losing someone that young is doubly sad. I always said that I feel blessed to have lived to be 71 years of age before I had to deal with a disease like bc. It breaks my heart to read the stories of all the young women (men too) fighting this disease at such an early age.
I send you prayers and positive energy!

I lost a cousin to ovarian cancer, she was 50 yo. When I was dx, I had the usual tests and on the CT scan they found a pancreatic cyst. So I had to have a MRI every 6 months to keep an I on it, thank goodness it was B9. It is gone now, sometimes cyst go away by themselves.
Love Eggplant any color same with Asparagus.
Breaks my heart also when young ones die of cancer or any other type of ailment. Heard on the news last night that a family visiting Florida for a grandsons grad. A 15 yo was driving alone with just a leaners permit hit their car which made it spin into another car and caught on fire. A grandmother from Billerica died in the crash, that is the next town over from me.

deb: That's so sad. There have been so many incidents with teenagers driving improperly or intoxicated lately. My DGD is 19 and she still doesn't have her license...my DD would not let her get it before, and now that she has turned 18+ she realizes herself that she is not ready for the responsibility of driving. Right now she is in Hawaii surfing and contemplating life. I guess you don't need a car there..lol! She's my flower grandchild!

Hi everyone! Just checking in - the girls are on a plane back to Boston and I've been on the couch all afternoon with some sort of flu and fever. I'm starting to feel a little better, which is good because we have pre-paid reservations on a dinner cruise down the Seine. Tomorrow we head home, and I am actually quite ready!

Hope you feel better soon.

Awe, Michelle sorry you are not feeling well hope you can feel good enough to enjoy your last day alone with dh. Im sure you not stopped for a second and your body is telling you its time to slow down and rest. But im so glad you are having a great time there, im sure there are so many great memories to bring back with you. love and hugs!
Eric- Sorry about your fiance that is so sad.
Yesterday i had a craving for pizza with all the talk here lately, we really havn't liked the ones we have tried here just not any good at all, but there was a little hole in the wall that i had not tried. walked in and it had graffiti all over the walls (on purpose) everyone signs there names and stuff. looked old i was hesitant to order anything but the kitchen looked clean. I ordered a pizza pie came with 8 slices for only 6.00 dollars with just cheese. This was by far the best pizza i have had since i left kentucky where my friends own pizza by the pound in paducah. The crust was excellent too. Sat in the car and ate 3 pieces and then over to the casino while hubby worked. spent 4 hours there on 50.00 walked out with nothing but had a good time. For breakfast today i ate the other couple of pieces. Yummm!
Tonight we are going to friends house for a bq she lives right on the beach so should be a fun day watching all the kites and people play. I see the sun poking through so hope it gets warmer.
Hope everyone is having a great day!

One of those gotta get home to rest up vacations! The best kind!. :-)
Athougth I *sometimes* like the "put my feet up and snooze" ones.
It's already to hot here for a garden, so nothing but the grapevine and the pomegranate here right now. The grapevine provides a lot of shade and attracts the birds, but they don't bother the pomegranates..so I get to eat those...If my daughter were about 6, I'd risk teaching her how to shoot the seeds from a straw! Sharon would probably have stuck the straw up my, ahh...nose, yeah, that's it....nose....... :-)

AHH Eric Life lessons only to be learned from Dad. When we would go camping I would try to teach my daughter how to pee in the woods....told her it was a lesson she may need some day. She is now 25 and can easily navigate this...she comes home every summer to camp with girlfriends at the wine festival and I know ther has to be lots of woods visited since the lines are so long at the makeshift restrooms.
Laurie No I have never had the white eggplant, havent even seen it in stores....this I must investigate.
Debbie Finding a good pizza...priceless. Sounds like a perfect afternoon being on the beach...it is still rainy and cool here.
Michelle Hope you are feeling better, its no fun to travel when you feel icky.

peeing in the woods.. that made me laugh. My aunt taught me how to pee in a cemetary but she failed to teach me how to keep my pants out of the way. I was a little dissappointed.. all in all tho it was kind of an adventure. This was the cemetery that my mother's side of the family was buried.. they came over from Alsace Lorrain to eek out a very meager existence in Missouri. My mom's mother died when she was only 6 moths old from pneumonia and the father could not keep his five daughters. His sister (a nun) ran an orphanage close by. Sister Mary Demetria - I was scared to death of her.

lol at peeing in the woods! I have no issues there. I will never forget in my early 20's going to a concert with friends and wehn we got out my friend wanted to stand in line at the porta potties. I said- let's just pee inthe woods, I'm not going int hat germ mobile. So she got inline and I waited the 20 minutes with her when it was her turn she went right in and walked right out. It was about to over flow. I told her to come with me and pee in the woods. She confessed she had never peed outside before. (???) So I taught her not to pee on herself. I couldn't believe she had never done it before!
As a mom I am grateful I have boys. They can pee anywhere with no issues and no one would care. Although we had a close call this past Easter. We got out of church and I have always told my 4 year old to fins a tree if we are outside. He walks over to a small tree, maybe 4 feet tall and 2 inches thick and proceeds to drop his pants in the parking lot!!! Um....NOOOOOOOOO! I stopped him and pulled his pants up. He says, but it's a tree? I said yes it is...in a parking lot....at church...on Easter. Lets go inside and use the bathroom. He informed me he "didn't have to go that bad, he could wait till we got home."

LoL Eric- I wouldn't put it past my kids!
My neighbor dropped off some soup for DS. He wouldn't touch it. It was AMAZING! Tortollini's, (sp?) chicken, broccoli carrots etc. I just ate two bowls and am stuffed, I just texted her and asked her to e mail me the recipe. It is honestly one of the best soups I have ever had. Once I get it I will share it.

Your pee stories are keeping me amused as I wait for my flight back to Boston! Hysterical!
Michelle feel better fast!0 -
Love the peeing stories! One of my best ones is peeing in an empty tennis can when we were stuck for hours in the parking lot after a Nascar race. Guys definitely have the anatomical advantage!
Michelle, hope you're feeling much better.

When I was a kid (8 & 9 yrs old) we drove straight through from NE Washington to South Central North Dakota and I so envied my little brother. We didn't even have to stop for him to pee, he had a little red plastic urinal with a leak proof cap that he used in the car. For me Dad pulled over to the side of the road and I had to squat beside the car. Mom would leave the car door open and try to block me on the other side with her body (she really was rather overweight). I was always so sure someone would see me.

I only had a son but I've taught several friend's girls how to pee behind trees, or even behind dumpsters in an emergency when we used to go to the air shows at NASA.
A neighbor shared a piece the best chocolate cake I've tasted in ages. She suggested I warm it in the microwave but I'd eaten it all before I got to that side of the kitchen. Recipe below.
Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cake
1 Box Devil’s Food Cake Mix (without pudding)
1 large pkg instant chocolate pudding
1 cup sour cream
1 cup vegetable oil
4 eggs, beaten
½ cup warm water
1 – 12 oz pkg semisweet chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
In large bowl, mix first 6 ingredients.
Stir in chocolate chips
Pour into well greased 12 cup Bundt pan
Bake 50 – 55 min
Serve plain, sprinkled w/powdered sugar
Or drizzled w/warm icing

Gee - I don't know how all the garbage got in the post. And I can't figure out how to delete it. Sorry. But the recipe is worth it.
