Michelle good luck on the scans tomorrow. Specialk, sounds, interesting, but kay, good luck with the reconstruction on Tuesday.

It makes me sad/mad when some nut job (or just plain mean person) starts shooting people. So sad.....
I'm simmering cactus pears in water. I think I escaped the little fuzzy thorns that make me feel like I've been sleeping in fiberglass. Cactus jelly will be on the menu
Good to hear from you Tazz. Home is much nicer than a hospital anyday.
Apple, did you make the pommegranate mollasses? If so, how? I have a huge pommegranate bush in the front yard and I love the things...but would like to do more with them than just stain good clothes. :-)
Michelle, good thoughts to you for your scans tomorrow. I love it when I have to work on the sprinklers! Sharon used to sing and play the banjo in a bluegrass band, but all the medical issues have got her sidelined for the moment.

Kay - this is the first time I've really watched much of the summer Olympics. Swimming, gymnastics and equestrian are probably my favorites. And I love Phelps and Gabby. Did you catch the interview with Michael tonight that included a retrospective of his career? Increased my admiration for Phelps the man as well as swimmer.

What a busy thread! DH wanted to get me out of the house so took me to the casino. Im so hyper from all the iced tea I doubt i will sleep tonight!
Moon- That shooting was so sad and senseless, What is wrong with people??
Bedo- So glad you liked the pie. Sometimes I dont peel the tomatoes either and actually I cook the top of my pie or anything that has cheese in it longer until it gets really, really brown on top. So basically you did good LOL!
Michelle- Use it or lose it- That sounds familar! ha! Just finished watching your video. OMG! I just loved it! You sounded good and looked like you were having a blast. If I was in the room with you I would of been hootin and hollering! You look so cute too! I know a lot of you go to Pickey place, but wish all of us here could go out on the town one night, Oh boy would that ever be scarey! lol! But just think of the fun! Hope everything goes well tomorrow!
Kay- Sorry about your friends son. Yes drugs are so bad seems like a lot of celebrities lately have died from overdose. Good luck Tuesday with your recon.
SpecialK- Beer gardens in the Zoo! Boy times have changed hehe! Sounds like fun though.
( I just figured out how to remember all the post from one page to the next) I copy pasted the previous page on to the last page. Why didn't I think of that before? Ding. Dong, Ding! No I havnt been drinking, only tea!
Eric- I don't know if Apple makes her own but I buy it at the gourmet market. Wish I had a pomegranite bush.
Chabba- I just love Phelps and Gabby those two were the ones I always tuned into watch. Thinking of you. I will find out more about my dad on Tuesday. We are keeping things under wraps until then and then he will tell the rest of the family.
Also, wanted to mention the coconut cream pie was the best I ever made. it was delicious. I usually don't eat it but I had a piece tonight and it was awesome. I will post the recipe tomorrow if any one wants it.

Eric - no I've been seriously over-worked at work but fortunately, I get paid for overtime, so it's not ALL bad.
For dinner yesterday I made gazpacho and sliced cold chicken. Simply too hot to eat hot.

gardengumby - while at the zoo for the beerfest they had watermelon gazpacho in little shotglasses - it was really good. Your dinner last night sounds perfect to me!

I love gazpacho. I saw a recipe for watermelon gazpacho in Bon Appetit, but haven't tried making it yet. I stuck with the tried and true.... but I cheat and start with tomato juice then I don't have to grind up as many tomatoes. Also, because I just can't eat wheat anymore, I no longer add croutons - no croutons in ceasar salad either. Even if I order it at a restaurant, I either tell them to leave 'em out or if I forget to tell 'em, I carefully eat around them, leaving this strange looking mound of croutons in the middle of my plate.

gardengumby - Could you post your gazpacho recipe? No matter what we serve for lunch at the Center our guests want their soup. Thursday I'm planning to make a breakfast casserole to use up some of the liquid eggs the Fire Department donated, Left overs from their fund raising breakfast Harley weekend. Gazpacho would be perfect.

Michelle...WOW on the song! I could never get up and do that....yikes...they would close down the place after that. Good luck on the scans as well!
Kay: Hope your nipple reconstruction goes well! Yes, these young people killing themselves either by suicide or overdose is tragic. There is something seriously wrong in our society and we must address it soon.
Lacey: You quote about wouldn't it be nice if people could get mental health care as easily as they could get a gun is very appropriate...I couldn't agree more! Our leaders in this country need to get their heads out of the sand (or wherever else they may have them).

I'm still smiling at the thought of keeping up with 10 zucchini plants! :-)

Chabba, have you checked out the Healthy Soups thread? It's sort of a defunct thread, but there are some interesting soups there. Last winter I posted my gazpacho recipe (which is so much easier now with my million dollar Vit Mix since I don't have to peel the tomatoes at all). I'd like to see Gardengumby's recipe too when she is not too busy at work.
Kay sending positive thoughts to you this week....
....and by now, Michelle, you should be finished with your scan. More positive thoughts with you!0 -
Sure...
I start with everything cold, including the tomato juice....
1 large can tomato juice
2 english cucumbers
1 yellow and 1 orange pepper (I only get the colored ones because of the color, green is perfectly good)
1 or 2 jalapenos, seeded
1 walla walla (or vidalia) onion
2 or 3 cloves of garlic
a large bunch cilantro
1/4 c EVOO
juice of 1 or 2 lemons
1/8 c balsamic vinegar
salt and pepper
mince one cucumber and both yellow and orange pepper. Place in large bowl
cut everything else into chunks and put in a blender (needs to be done in at least 2 batches). Blend until everything is combined. Pour over the minced vegetables in the bowl. Put in fridge until ready to eat. Stir before serving. Some people like to add croutons when serving, but as I said, I cannot...
Enjoy.

Ok- I am going to miss so much, but I have read everything over the last day and a half....
Tazzy- SO glad you are feeling well with the pain meds and things went' smoother than expected. I remember the dye injection really hurting. I was asleep for everything else after that. I hope you enjoy the dinner your friend makes for you tonight.
Michelle- I hope all went well today with your scans. Hugs to you.
Chabba and Debbie- prayers and positive thoughts still coming your way.
Kay- Good luck with your nipple recon! It is an easy surgery- well mine was. I hope you get great lasting results.
So camping was fun but it is not a place we would go back to. The people who worked there were very unfriendly and it was mostly seasonal sites that they catered to. These people on their golf carts go so fast we didn't feel safe letting the kids ride bikes! Our site had not one tree on it so no shade at all. We were in direct sun from 9am till 5 pm so it was super hot with temps inthe 90's and high humidity. Thankfully we have a/c as my youngest still naps. We still had a great time because we were with good friends. The thunder storms were CRAZY! Also somehow all the women and kids- 3 moms and 6 kids all ended up in my camper for the storm and SOMEHOW the men ended up in one all by themselves and watched a movie hmmmmm.....how did that happen? We made them cook and clean up dinner hee hee!
Last night I came down with the kids virus and was in bed my 7 with a fever but by this morning it seemed the worst of it was over and I made myself go to work. I pushed through the day and nor DH has the boys out for a bike ride so I can have a moment to myself. Tonights dinner is left over chicken from camping on top of a Caesar salad.
I hope everyone is doing well! I will try to catch up more later

Hi everyone, just wanted to say hi. I still continue to grow stronger daily - pain meds help, but they really screw with my concentration and ability to retain anything. Who said chemo brain was bad
A friend brought us over lasagne with salad and cheese bread for our dinner yesterday with blueberry crumble and ice cream
Tonight DH is cooking pork ribs on the bbq with a salad. Cant go wrong wtih that can he ??
I am thinking of you all and hope that those going through rough times, you can see a smoother road ahead. Wishing all of you good vibes.
Love & hugs xxx

Thanks, Lacey!! Hope you like the taste, too!!0

Michelle- Been waiting to hear word from you. How are you doing? Did you get your results back yet? ((((hugs))))
Laurie- Sorry you are not feeling good. Hope it passes quickly and by tonight you feel better. It's hard to push through work when you are sick.
Tazzy- Good to see you are feeling much better, keep taking the meds as long as they help.

Hi everyone! Had my scan around 12:30, then went food shopping and had lunch. We just got back from a 6.4 mile bike ride and I'm now "chillin'" out by the lake while DH take a shower. I should get the scan results tomorrow because I sent an email to my MO and said I'd be looking for them, she responded that she should see them in the morning.
Tazzy - glad you ar improving...I was fortunate to not need too many pain meds. I mostly took tylenol and it worked pretty well after the first couple days. I know you mentioned something about numbness - I am mostly numb on my left side plus the axilla area. I don't expect it will ever come back to normal.
I am going to have to try a gazpacho. I don't like raw onion so I'll substitute a bit of scallion and I do mean just a bit!
Laurie - oh no, not another fever for you??? Doesn't make any sense. I hope they can find the root cause soon. That's too bad about the camping site, there are good ones and not so good ones. You really should try Winhall Brook in VT (Jamaica, I think). It's beautiful, grassy and treed. From what I remember, there is not a bad site in the park.
We're having grilled ham steak, pineapple and sauteed spinach with garlic for supper. I think it counts as a 20 minute dinner, which is just about how much energy I have remaining...LOL!

Michelle- I will keep in in my prayers tonight for your scan results tomorrow. This fever I can owe all to the boys. They both had it in the last week and a half and mine has lasted about 24 hours- same as theirs. Dr said there are a lot of weird virus' going around.

pomegranate molasses.. make it? oh no. you buy it in a jar at the Persian place .. only 3 bucks.. it lasts forever.
we had dressing made of the pomegranate molasses with a salad.. my son marinated and grilled chicken breast.. i made really fattening, delicious macaroni and cheese, and an avacado.
yum

Apple - sounds so interesting, pomegranite molasses. I made a pom vinaigrette at Christmas, but the molasses sounds really different!
I think I beat my all-time record for getting a freshly-cooked dinner from fridge to plate...13 minutes! Then an extra 2 1/2 for the second ear of corn that I nuked because the first one was so good - maybe the very best we've ever had, and that's saying a lot. Ham and pineapple on the Cuisinart grill, sauteed spinach took the longest, and you know that doesn't take long! Four minutes for 2 ears of corn. Redefining fast food!!!

Hello all We are back from our supposedly 2 day trip that turned into three. Storms kept us at the other end of the lake for an extra day. Funny thing though is my husband did not plotz about getting back to work, he actually relaxed and had a good time with our friends. Lots of good eats at all different kinds of restaurants.....we woke up this morning on the boat and our friends had coffee and bagels waiting for us.....OMG I felt like a queen.
Tazzy so glad you are doing well, the road to wellness is one step closer.
Michelle Good thoughts your way on having good scans. You are amazing with the biking through all of this.
Tonight is jambalaya and a tossed salad
Laurie I think you are right about the weird viruses....my sister just had a two day bug that had her down and out. Glad it was over quickly for you.

Are you all talking about the dye the inject right into the breast near the tumor and you peed blue the next day? Hurt like HELL even the doctor was wincing when I gritted my teeth. That was over 5 years ago.
I had a bone scan also in March of 2007.

Ok, I have to confess. It was Good Mood Food night here. Yep, Arbys. I love me some poppers...... Oh, yeah, the roast beef sandwich was pretty good too. But I was good, the ice tea was unsweetened! LOL

What a dinner record Michelle! Congrats!
Thanks Garden.....I love cilantro so will really enjoy that included in the recipe.
We decided to stop and have dinner on the way home from the lake...so while I drove, DH explored restaurants in the Manchester area (half-way point) and we settled on a mexican one ....I had seafood fajitas and DH had a chicken burrito. The meals were so-so, but we did enjoy the chips and salsa. Good thing I have been religious about my healthy smoothies and walks each morning! Would love to hear from my NH sisters about any good restaurants in the Concord, or Manchester or Nashua areas, since we pass those cities/towns on our way home, but never venture off the highway. Thanks!
Ah yes, Deb, I now do recall the warning about, and then the actual, blue pee. Such wonderful experiences!0 -
Michelle, that really is fast food redefined. There are so many good and healthy foods that really don't take long.

last nite, son #1 made delish grilled chicken breast.. he loves watching those cooking shows with me.. i have them on non stop for a couple hours while i read (Golden girl tattoo presently) i made some excellent mac and cheese with realy good swiss and very sharp cheddars.. i made a salad. just romaine and celery but added some soy nuts. they were surprisingly crunchy and stayed crunchy... some of that sweet super sour pomegranate molasses dressing with oil and vinegar mixed in.

i would like to enter a recipe contest with a big prize.. anybody know of one.. like $10.000 - i am perfecting this (SECRET) recip (sorry )... which of course i'll share once it is perfect. I've never done that sort of thing.

Apple - I found a sandwich-making competition with a $25,000 grand prize
http://www.makethatsandwich.com/enter-contest/createContestantRecipe
Seems like there are quite a few with much smaller prize funds.
And here's a list of some upcoming contests across the US...maybe there's one that would work for your secret recipe!
http://www.foodreference.com/html/recipecontests.html
I think you should check and see if "Chopped" will do a show with semi-professional chefs. I'll bet you could make some interesting dishes from those often bizarre basket ingredients.
I'm going to the beach today (Hampton) and meeting up with the grandkids. It will be fun/tiring!
Lacey - let's talk about the restaurant suggestions on Saturday. I'm sure I could provide a few recommendations. One that comes to mind in Manchester and is right off I-293 is Cotton:
And if you are heading south on 93, the Windham Inn in Salem is a nice place and less than a mile from exit 3:
