So...whats for dinner?

apple: That sounds like such fun..entering a recipe contest! You son sounds like he is a chef in training...learning from his Mom!
Carrie: So glad you enjoyed your little vacation...it's so nice when DH's don't complain and enjoy the experience with enthusiasm. My BF isn't always like that...unless there's a golf course nearby!
Laurie: So sorry you were sick with a virus...and worked too! What a trooper. Kids have such strong germs and they go right through the family! Right now both my GD and DGGD are sick with something, and I'm worried because the little one has seizures when her fever gets too high.
Michelle: Praying that your scan turns out positive!

Wrote a longish post and evidently neglected to SUBMIT it! Mind like a steel trap.
Eric, I love bluegrass music and the banjo is my favorite bluegrass instrument. How neat to play with a bluegrass group.
Kay, good luck with your reconstruction procedure. I was fortunate to have the nipple-sparing bmx because of the placement of my tumor. Healing was touch and go but all turned out ok.
Laurie, dh and I try to avoid the rv parks that are populated by seasonals but more and more rv parks are going in that direction, and you can't blame the owners. It's sure money. We stayed in a place in Ohio one year that had at least 200 seasonals, most with golf carts. Every afternoon at cocktail time, there was a long procession, all the people in the carts with their drinks. They drove up and down the streets. It was comical! We sat in our chairs outside our rv, with our cocktails and saluted them!
Dinner tonight is a thick steak big enough for two, a salad and either corn on the cob or sauteed veggie medley. Maybe Laurie's favorite, corn, yellow squash and zucchini.

Carol that is funny about the RV parks and their cocktail hour! SO glad you are enjoying nice weather and having a great time.
Michelle- Thinking of you and hoping for great results from your scans.
Kaara- You are right , those pesky kids and their virus'! Hope your GD and DGGD are dong ok and no seizures, how scary?!
Today I felt better than yesterday so things are looking up. When I left for work I was at 99.6 but by about 10 I felt like the fever was gone which was good because we were really busy. DH has a meeting tonight so it is just me and the boys. No idea what I am going to do for dinner. I am thinking I may be the cool mom and make breakfast for dinner. I am pooped so I am hoping the boys will settle for a swim and no bike riding tonight. They should be home in a few minutes so I should go do a quick house pick up and put some laundry in.
Tomorrow I need to go to my dads garden and do some picking. He left Last Friday to go to SC for a few weeks. I was told to go every few days and pick all I can and keep/give it away. But he also said the cucumbers will be ready by the time I go. All this talk of gazpacho has me thinking.....yum.

Hi everyone! I need to keep this short because DH and I are going out for Taco Tuesday as soon as he gets back from his bike ride. So this is what I posted on another blog that I do with some diabetic friends:
received an email from my oncologist this morning. She doesn't have the final radiologist report, but her message pretty much summed up what I thought I saw when I looked at the scans. It looks like the lymph node in my axilla is bigger than it was at the last scan. She said she didn't see anything "new" but we would wait for the final report before deciding what's next. She suggested a few other chemos to try, or perhaps we would add one to the Xeloda I'm already taking, assuming there is any sign of improvement anywhere. She will also consult with Dr. Chen at Dana Farber in Boston. I've got the best minds watching over me, but it seems this breast cancer has a mind of its own.
I'll come back after dinner and margaritas, and chat with you all. Need to go comb my hair and put on longer pants - restaurants are all chill factories these days!

Thanks, Deb! I'm back, I had a jumbo Patron margarita, fresh table-side-made guacamole, and chicken and beef fajitas. Half of the fajitas came home but the margarita went down, no problem!
Kaara - I had four kids and somehow managed to avoid the fever seizures...such a scary thing. Not sure how I got so lucky!
Laurie - hope you're feeling better!
Carole - thick steak, yum! One of my favorites...I grew up a beef lover and I remember my dad barbecuing a thick chuck roast. Double yum!

My DD and I tried the new Bahama Breeze in Tyngsboro the last time she was here. We ate outside, the food was good, only thing that bothered us was the mosquitoes.

I made black beans with sauteed onions & orange pepper, with some corn, canned tomatoes and wheat penne pasta, a yummy filling combo. and on the side sliced cucumbers, with sour cream, vinegar, and a little agave syrup, and pepper.

I'm sitting at the RAD place right now. Sharon is getting the practice run and tomorrow is the beginning of the real thing.
Angel hair pasta with an eggplant and tomato sauce for dinner tonight...really good.

Michelle. I hope they find the right tx for you soon. ((((Hugs))))
I had to see my cardiologist for my pacemaker today, its about a 40 minute drive. My first drive of that length, then I saw my coworkers when I stopped in, they are across the street from the docs. I also stopped at the grocery. I got home.and collapsed, got up only to eat the half rack of ribs I picked up at Pick n Save for 5$. I am such a wimp, that just wiped me out.0 -
Moonflwr, that hardly sounds like wimp behavior! Smart of you to respond to your body's need for rest. I often feel exhausted after driving for two hours.
I dropped by my office to make sure it is in good shape for my replacement (I was literally so tired when shredding, sorting and packing in June, I could not recall what I did or did not take care of). It seems all set except for the case summaries I plan to write, so that is calming.
Tonight took bro-in-law out to dinner since he was in town, with DH and DS2. Ate at Legal Test Ktchen (LTK) at Seaport and we had lettuce wraps with beef, tasty tender calimari, and I had a crab meat salad on a bun. It looked bare when it arrived. OMG! That was because it needed absolutely NOTHING ELSE. What a sweet delight! It came with a very nice caesar salad.
Stayed up to see our recording of Aly Raisman do her floor exercise. Now I need to get some shut-eye....bet she's not! Our town is over the top excited about her final gold. One of the girls at the ice cream shop we stopped in on the way home, claiming to be one of her best friends (can you imagine how many of THOSE she has now!) and definitely a classmate, was telling us about how her new professional status, starting two months before the olympics prevents her from doing gymnastics at the college she planned to attend. So she will take the year off......and I suppose count her money! It was good to hear that she is a really nice girl.0 -
NOVENA NOTIFICATION
We will be starting a novena Tuesday Aug.14th . I have asked Frank to pick the novena. Please, keep him in your prayers daily as he is being chemo challenged at present. The herceptin has stopped working. We have many members that are having condition changes on the Catholic thread and throughout BCO right now. Please , join us on the 14th.
A Novena is prayers said daily for 9 days with stating the intention of your prayer. An intention can be for a person , group, or a thought. You don't need to be Catholic. Prayer is Prayer. If something in the prayer doesn't fit your belief system, substitute or omit that portion. We are an Ecumenical group which means inclusive of all.
Everyone on my Favorite member list gets this notification, as I have added those that have been involed in the past, UNLESS they are there for a different reason. Frankly, my memory is getting worse. So, if you have receive this and scratching your head as to why, please forgive me.
Send your intentions to me by Pm or post on Catholic thread on sunday (preferrably) or monday and I will combine them into a one list. It takes awhile to do the composite list, thats why I ask that intentions be sent on Sunday, Pax Sheila(sassy)

Mmmm....bacon, bacon, bacon!!! Got a big supply of Burger Smokehouse bacon in my freezer!

Great minds think alike. :-) I Just cooked bacon & eggs for Chrissy.
It is her first day of high school. I'm still not sure where the time has gone!
Eric0 -
Oh... bacon, bacon.... There is nothing more comforting than the smell and taste of bacon. When all else fails, there is bacon I am still eating bran for breakfast whilst on the pain meds.
Last night DH cooked the meatloaf we had in the freezer with potatoes and peas. It was nice though.
I think I will cook tonight, I mean as long as I am not lifting or stretching I should be fine eh?
Cannot even begin to respond to you all, but still love reading through your posts.
Take care and enjoy your days xx

Eric first day of school in August? Poor kid!!!! Hope her first day in high school goes amazing and she comes home super excited!
Tazzy- Glad you are feeling well. But no you should not cook dinner! You have drains in right? Any movement at all will have you put out fluid and make them stay in longer. We couldn't figure out why I started putting out more fluid at one point it was from feeding my son his baby food! Just lifting my arm repeatedly to feed him his baby cereal. Hard as it is lay low
We went down to my dads garden and picked veggies today OMG! He has such the green thumb I picked so much stuff it was crazy! I will be sharing with the neighbors and my brother. Here are a couple of pictures I took.

I took a pic of everything I picked- there are a couple of the white eggplants in there too. I picked so many peppers we will have to have stuffed peppers for dinner soon!

Laurie - that is one productive garden, and the pictures are beautiful! I'm guessing you're feeling better!
Tazzy - I know the desire is to get back to normal as soon as possible, but remember not to overdo it. And you shouldn't lift anything over a few pounds. Accept help until the drains are out. Now all that said, I'm pretty sure I went to the casino with drains but didn't pull the handles - just pushed the buttons. And I probably started cooking a little after a few days, just didn't lift any cast iron frying pans or the like! A pot of pasta water is too heavy.I've been a bit of a slug today...feeling a little tired after yesterday's beach excursion, dinner out, and staying up too late to watch the Olympics. We are having steak, corn, and maybe green beans for dinner.Still no final report on the scans. I have been researching clinical trials and found a few that seem relevant. MO appointment is next Wednesday.Lacey - we walked by the Legal Test Kitchen when we went to the Seaport to see the Tall Ships. I need to prompt DH to go there soon - it's a great location. And it's good to hear the food was great. And good to hear good things about Aly Raisman - I just love her floor exercise routine! Yup, she can start counting her money...she'll have lots of endorsement contracts!0 -
Thanks so much for all the advice ladies. Really means a lot from women who have been through it. I have been very very kind to myself. Even if I wanted to stretch I couldn't - I know as soon as I have got to my limit and I stop, very quickly. DH has been wonderful and only allows me to do what I can when I can... he hovers over me to make sure. I just thought that cutting up a salad would be OK. My drains have switched how much they are putting out... the one nearest my armpit, up until yesterday, always put out more than the other one... now they have switched amounts - did you find that, is that normal? They are definitely putting out less though.
Laurie... that is some garden your Dad has. You have lots of green beans. Recipe here is one I use lots. Sorry, I dont have exact measurements.
Enough green beans for 2 (add more for more people) - halved
handful cherry toms - halved
small onion diced
2 cloves garlic (more if you like more)
salt and pepper to taste
fresh mintcook onion and garlic in tbsp of olive oil until soft. add cherry toms to pan and squish down. Cook for approx 5 mins on med. heat. add beans with about 150ml water. turn down to simmer. When almost cooked add chopped mint to pan. Serve either hot or cold.
Back to topic... someone just sent me this link - looks very yummy.

Michelle. Love you went to the casino shortly after your surgery
As long as we are sensible, life must go on.

Michelle- I am still hoping for some good news for you for the scans. Sounds like you had quite the full day yesterday!! Glad you had fun.
Tonight's dinner is a pasta prima vera. Cooking up veggies from the garden and having it with some doctored up pasta sauce and spaghetti. For the sauce I sauteed mushrooms, onion and garlic added jarred sauce some fresh basil and a little sugar. Nothing fancy.
I am feeling better but this whole sinus thing is still plaguing me, go for my follow up at the Dr on Friday. Honestly it is better than it was so I am pretty happy.
Yes, my dads garden is going gang busters. I was disappointed he didn'[t put in any lettuce this year though. Although beggers can't be choosers!!!

Laurie - as hot as it's been, the lettuce would probably have bolted before you could use it. Glad you're feeling better!

Michelle, fill us in when you hear. Laurie, glad you are doing better. Tazzy, my drains changed according to activity, too much doing led to more fluid, and since the goal is to get rid of the d*mn things, slow down!

I picked some tomatoes and basil, I pulled up my yellow peppers that were suppose to be sweet according to the tag but nearly burnt my mouth out when I bit into one. HATE HOT!

What a haul Laurie, Zuccini bread for that big one, looks like that would make about 5 loaves. Freeze those green beans, I remember helping my Mom do that years ago. Saute the summer squash with garlic flavored EVOO and mushrooms, mmmmm

Debore, trying to one up me? LOL, next post has to go four times! ......LOL.

Laurie- Those veggies look beautiful and yummy! Glad you are feeling better.
Michelle- Your taco dinners sounded so good, Nothing better than quacamole. especially that margaritta! Hope everything turns out alright on your test!
Tazzy- Glad your healing from your surgery. It seemed like my drains took forever before I could have them out. Some just take longer than others but hope you are able to get them out soon.
Drove to Portland yesterday to see cardiologist, they put a heart monitor on DH to wear for 30 days and we will drive back there for a stress and another echo cardiogram on the 15th. I think it was just stress related but its good to have it all done. He seems to be feeling better.
Some of my dads test came back, he has a 6cm tumor on the top of his stomach and some tumors on his esophagus. As far as weather there is node involvement they are not sure until they do surgery. The are scheduleing him for a PET right away. Not sure when the rads and chemo will start. He has not eaten any food in weeks now and can't even drink water, but can sip on some ensure. They told him when he is unable to drink the ensure they will put in the feeding tube. We are driving down to see him on Sunday. Thanks for letting me vent!
