Apple- Thats nice to hear your DH is being attentive and helpful. So sorry about your priest and his accident, I get so angry when I hear about people driving and drinking we never ever do that, If one of us wants to drink then the other won't. I always say no taxi is to expensive. Hope he is healing well and was back today.
Beautiful pictures Deb- I have tried that way before but I think my problem might be using firefox, When I had my old computer I was able to D/l pictures was never sure how I did it because sometimes I could and somtimes it wouldn't work. I guess I will have to pick a day and just work on it.
Kids- Your breakfast looks yummy
Nancy- I will have to try those salt potato's you all make them sound good.
Tonignt we are going out with our friends whom have been gone to VA for almost a month these people are amazing she is only 69 but George, her DH is 85 and he can dance up a storm like no one else, and he has an amazing voice, just love them. Not to mention they make US feel young lol!
Hope everyone is doing well, its oddly quiet around here.

Wow, Nancy! I can't believe St. Louis has had a frost before us folks here in NH! Glad you enjoyed the whole salt potato experience!
Kidsandlabs - oooohhh, that's naughty!
My DH decided that we should go out for brunch this morning, since DD spent the night. So we ate around 11 and I told him we'd be having popcorn for supperDeb - your pictures are fantastic!0 -
Made chicken soup today. Fall is falling, and soup felt and tasted like the right lunch.

Michelle, I actually live about 60 miles north of St. Louis county (small town no one ever heard of), and our temps run 5 to 10 degrees cooler than the city. I love popcorn for dinner :-)

Pumpkin Poo.

Ewwww!!! Are they cheesy poofs or marshmallows?

I can't wait until the real pumpkins show up....pumpkin pie!
Someone had frost. I may have some in the freezer. Outside, it's still over 100F here.0 -
Pot luck with the ladies tonight, craft night. We all made new wreaths.

((((((Apple))))). I am sorry to hear you're not doing so well. I know you are not one to complain. Hope you're feeling better,
I hate this f($&9&ng disease. A woman, Reesie, who I met for dinner last summer died last month. I was looking for her and found out. Just a little bit ago, she thought she was doing really well and this seemed to come out of no where and take her so quickly. She had just turned 49 in July. Not fair at all.
We had our family over for a birthday celebration for my DD tonight. I cooked a turkey, mashed potatoes with bacon, garlic, butter and onions, and sweet potatoes. I don't know why I always overlook the turkey. It is always dried out. Not too badly, and everyone said it was good. My DH made squash and leek soup with roasted apples. That was really good! We had mango cheese cake too, not homemade though.0 -
Love to cook, sorry about your friend. F*ckn bc!
Tonite I had broasted. DH did not come home this weekend and ivwas lonely, so I took myself out. I was thinking fried shrimp, but the broasted chicken was only 9$. And I ordered baked French onion soup for 1$ extra. I saved the breast and the potatoes for lunch tomorrow, so very reasonable. at least I was surrounded by people for a meal. Much love.0 -

I hardly have time to post. I spent the afternoon at my mom's place getting the plants & trees trimmed. It got dark before I could finish. I should finish with it next weekend.
My wish came true when mom and I were shopping. They had small pumpkins, so I got one to make a couple pies.
And finally ((((Apple)))) and to everyone else.

Oh, Apple, so sorry that you are struggling. I hope your pesto making marathon gave you a happy focus for the day! (((((Hugs)))))
Took a trip to our Farmer's MArket again today and got another huge basket of tomatoes, which I will roast tomorrow and use for an interesting sounding pasta dish that I am making for a friend's potluck dinner later this week. Having roasted tomatoes around is kind of like storing gold! Also bought the veggies to make ratatouile again. Our Town Farmer's MArket is new this year and is held on our church's front lawn...quite lively, since folks from the church always play music while people shop. It was mobbed today. DH keeps challenging himself by buying hotter and hotter peppers each week. We'll see how he does with this hotter selection!
Tonight we ate grilled marinated steak tips, corn on cob, fresh Italian tomato salad, and sweet/sour cuke salad.0 -
Deb thanks for the beautiful pictures...you are a beautiful lady, inside and out. Soo funny on the pumpkin poo.
Prayers and much love to you Apple.
Eric I was whining (just a little) when our temps were in the 90's here, but now that we have dropped to the 60's I am missing the warmth.
Not much cooking here...spent the day in bed yesterday with a stomach bug..lots of the big D! had a fever and body aches and a major headache....not sure where that came from. My best girlfriend sent me some homemade chicken soup. It was supposed to be salsa making day at her house and I had to bow out, she carried on by herself. I felt so bad, cause its a lot of work doing all the chopping.
Lacey I thin its a guy thing with the hot peppers. My son likes to find all kinds of hot sauce that claims to be the hottest out there and put it on his wings.

Red Savina Habanero pepper.
They aren't very useful for cooking. They *are* good for making people decide to quit saying, "Nothing is too hot for me."
One pepper in 6-8 quarts of salsa is on the edge of too hot.0 -
Well i made more than a gallon of pesto.. that should last a year. - 3 big containers (6 cups each).
tonite we are grilling pork steaks and veggies.. noodles with pesto probably, on the side. for sauce, i just had water and make it into a slurry rather than a paste which is hard to distribute thru the noodles.

Hi everyone! Looks like this thread has been really busy as usual. I've been very remiss in reading and posting, but hope everyone is doing well.
Deb those are beautiful photos, and Apple, saying prayers for you. So sorry about your priest.
The weather is beautiful here...into the 40's last night so fall is definitely here in the mountains!
I got the all clear on my mammogram today...one year from my original suspicious dx that led to my bc surgery, so it was a milestone. I had one sort of scary moment when they put me in a private room to wait for the radiologist. I thought OMG...now what...but he came right in and told me all was ok. I almost cried I was so relieved!
Have a great day everyone!

Kaara, the radiologist at my imaging center has seen me at every visit since my mamo for the lump. He even saw me that day and told me they always took a biopsy on a patient identified lump. Had the biopsy then and there. This last time he even sat down and chated with me about how much he admired and respected my surgeon.

Apple - I hope you are feeling better today. A gallon of pesto??? That sounds like it would last for years!
I have started a cooking frenzy today. Not sure what got into me, but I decided that I needed to make chili, chicken soup, lasagna and meatloaf for dinner. The lasagna won't happen today - the two large pots are filled with the chicken soup and chili, so no pot to make the meat sauce right now. I'll have to make it tomorrow, though, because the ground beef was $3 off - a manager's special - because today was the "sell-by" date. I think most ground meat is kept on the shelf for just a day or two. In any case, it was hard to pass it up, so I'll have to get my sauce going soon. DH came down from his office and told me I needed to stop what I was doing because it was making him hungry. LOL! He's going to have to "suffer" for a few hours!
Eye of the round roast was also on sale, so I bought a 3-pounder and stuck it in the freezer. I'll make it on a Sunday when we have the kids over for dinner. I like the recipe where you cook it at high heat for a few minutes then turn the oven off for 2 1/2 hours. Here's a link to the recipe:
http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/High-Temperature-Eye-of-Round-Roast/
I posted it a few months ago, but it's getting to be roast time now that the weather is cooler, so I thought some of you might want to give it a try.
Did anyone notice that we are almost at 10,000 posts??? We'll hit the mark in a day or two!!!

Sharon's RO is like that. After the treatment stuff is done, she (the RO) chats with us about whatever comes up. Hiking was the last topic. :-)
That is great new Kara. All clears are always welcome!
Apple, that sounds good. I was thinking of firing up the grill and now that the weather is getting less "not nice" outside, actually sit outside rather than run out and run back inside to duck for cover from the heat.
I'll have to be very careful eating this evening. I'm getting a dental crown started this afternoon.
Carrie, I found a meat cleaver at a garage sale that has its sharp edge much more curved than usual. It looks like a C on its back. I can rock it back and forth as I swing it around the cutting board and quickly chop stuff up without making a puree. I love the thing.

My high school senior picture - fall of 1967
Me - New Year's Eve 2010
Despite the uncanny resemblance in the picture from my daughter's wedding 10 years ago, I really don't look all that much like Sara Palin!

Michelle- I make my roasts the same way, my grandmother always made it that way too. It doe sound like you are cooking up a storm! It all sounds great too. I have lasagna on my list of foods for this week too.
Kaara- Great news on the all clear!
Apple- Your pesto sounds wonderful- I love pesto in/on just about anything. Hope you are feeling well.
Eric- I don't think you ever sit still? Hope your tooth is ok.
Lately it seems there are not enough hours in the day. I have no idea where the time goes. Just way too much stuff going on. Everyone in my house has been sick with a cold, DH and I got it the worse. Of course I was at the worst part over the weekend- DH had to work all weekend. Our downstairs toilet broke and we are having our sons birthday party this weekend- so now we are trying to quicky do the bathroom over. I haven't bought him one present yet or gotten anything for the party. Saturday is Pickety Place we sold our old wood stove and are going to get a new one Saturday. The following weekend we are camping all weekend, and the Wednesday in between is my sons actual birthday. I just try to keep having faith it will all get done somehow.
Last night I cooked a chicken in the crock pot with all the same seasonings/beer as Debbie's Belgian Stew. Toward the end I actually put it all in a pan and popped it int he oven for 20 minutes and browned the chicken up. It was really good.
Tonight I am making what DH calls the poor man steak for dinner. Cube steak with brown gravy and mushrooms with mashed potatoes and the last of the green beans from my dads garden.
Hope everyone is doing well!

Michelle,
Sounds like me! The heating system folks have told me that I will have NO hot water starting at 9am tomorrow until 5pm on Friday. I can cook without hot water, but washing dishes? No. So, I got to work. I have made some dough for a spinach filled pizzata which I will bake tonight for lunches throughout the week. I made an Italian sausage and stuffed it into links, and I have finished making the ricotta cheese.
Dinner will be chicken enchiladas with the roasted tomatillo sauce made over the weekend, served with black beans. I will make an extra tray for later in the week. Starting tomorrow, we will eat off of the paper plates I bought for the kid's high school graduation in 2005.

Susan - you're my hero! I have to admit that if I were to have to go without hot water for more than 24 hours, I'd be staying at my daughter's or getting a hotel room!!! I think your decision to break out the paper plates is a very good one...lol!
I've got the meatloaf assembled and ready to pop in the oven. The next big thing is to get the chicken out of the pot, let it cool and then debone it, cut it up and put it back in the soup pot. I'm also making mashed potatoes and fresh green beans with bacon and shallots to go with the meatloaf. Someone should take my temperature, I must be sick...LOL!

Wow Michelle... wished I lived nearer you I think I'd be inviting myself over for dinner this week
I cooked a beef roast in the crock pot yesterday... having that tonight with garlic mashed pots and veggies.

Michele, I think it's the weather or season. All I want to do is cook stuff, especially bake. comfort food keeps calling me too. And pastas. This is funny because I spent the entire summer trying to avoid cooking.

Its anyone else having trouble with everything posting twice?
0 -
Yes, I'm having a problem with posting. There's a delay in the confirmation that your first post went through, so you have to hit submit a second time. Then you get the message that you can't submit a second post in rapid succession. But apparently you can!!!
Speaking of posting, this is post 9997! We'll hit the 10,000 mark any minute!!!
