SpecialK - I'm sorry to hear about the passing of your friend.  Thanks for sharing her story and the story of your friendship.  As Jung was said to have said "there are no coincidences."

Editing to add:  Deb, wow, that deer really is close.  We get them in our driveway all the time but they never let us get that close to them (they love eating the ivy that covers the sides of our property - or USED to cover the sides of our property).  It looks like your daughter has a lot of fun and is a lot of fun.

Specialk- The one thing no one will ever say about me is that I'm organized ha! I wish i was but I just don't take the time to do it right because Im always in a hurry. Again sorry for your loss.

Seaside- LOL! After all we are born on the same day haha!

Deb- Love the pictures. Looks like the weather is nice there too.

If the deer is in the Grand Canyon, they are quite used to people.

Here the deer are so used to people they come right up on the deck and eat the flowers from the planters.  Some people feed them and have them eating from their hands even though there is a city ordinance against feeding any wild animal within the city limits.

    Deb,

What beautiful pictures! Just look at how blue the sky is! Thanks for posting them so us non-facebook'ers can see them! I can't be the only one, am I...lol?

no, you aren't the only non-Facebooker. I'm not on FB and have no plans ever to open an account there. I stick to online forums. Guess I'm just old-fashioned.

Deb, great photos! I wonder what the specials were at the Roadkill Cafe? ;)

We received 8 inches of snow, which would be more beautiful if the sky were blue. It is an ominous dark grey right now.

I'm waiting for DH to start talking about the virtues of condo life....he just finished snow-blowing the property. For some reason we have always lived on a corner lot....more to shovel! But as I reminded DH, now that Lacey is in pup heaven (or Rainbow Ridge....or is it Bridge?:), there is no need to shovel a track around the back yard. Thank you, sweet Lacey....every once in a while I really miss her.

Our chicken egg lemon soup was more like a chowder last night since I made it early in the day (the mistake)using orzo instead of rice, which absorbed a lot of the liquid. It wasn't bad....just a different texture which we actually enjoyed on the cold snowy night.

Big news..... DH baked. A Stonewall gift basket we received included a loaf mix of rosemary/olive/parmesan bread which just needed to have a bottle of beer added. So he's off and running with his cooking efforts. ;) We are attending a cooking class in a few weeks, so maybe that will involve some real recipes. Meanwhile, I'm loving the willing spirit!

    Have a good Sunday, everyone!

Those pictures of the dam look very familiar. The engineer in me is always in awe whenever I stop by there. My brother usually lives in Las Vegas, I live near Phoenix, so it's right on the way.

I tried the baked apple pancake today. Sharon and Chrissy are skiing, so I cut it in half for just myself. It's awesome. They'll be home tonight and I'll make it in the morning. My mom's skillet is so well seasoned that the pancake slid onto my plate.

Tomorrow we meet with the oncologist and find out about the latest round of cancer marker results. The last results were concerning, but not alarming, so another PET/CT is also going to be scheduled.

Bedo  Love that pic...loks like you had quite the birthday.

Eric Sounds like sharon is doing well...doing the skiing thing.  What is the closest spot for skiing out your way? My daughter also abandoned all our plans for a ski invite with friends   Glad she did, living in the city she doesnt get much of a chnace to ski, but she was really sore and wiped out when she got in last night.

Soooo much snow here, it just doesnt seem to stop. Trying to keep the hot soups and meals going but running low on some stock items.  Not getting to store soon though as our driveway is drifted in up to my waist  Hubby needs to bring the snowplow home from work so that I can get out eventually.

Deb  love the photos...we did that trip with our children when they were in their teens...such a gorgeous area and of course Vegas was a blast.

Spaghetti tonight and tomorrow we are going to dinner at a new local spot that has just opened, they will have a band, then home before the clock strikes 12

    Oh happy birthday deb DD!

Special K I am so glad that you got to meet that special person but I am sorry for your loss

Luvmygoats.  Do you have your lima bean recipe to share?  I love them and brussle sprouts.

Michelle, you look so cute, I think you may have a new job, Easter's coming!

We got Lots of snow and some angel swept off part of the snow on my car.

Not going out on New Years.  Too many crazies!

But New Years Day Dinner and a movie.

I hope everyone is staying warm and hello to all I missed!

    I hope Apple is OK.

Now, if someone would get off the couch and peel and cook the frozen shrimp, I could have dinner.  I think that I will have that with some cocktail sauce and lemon.

    Leftover Turkey dinner tonight.

When DD moved to Bermuda she had 2 cats, one she had to put to sleep due to cancer, I have the other, Tinkie.  For about 3 to 4 months she has been going where every she pleases, I have tried every trick in the book but to no avail.  So we had to put a gate up so she only has access to the family room, kitchen and utility room where her litter box is. I had to take all lthe scatter rugs up cuz she was going on them.  She was doing good for a few days, going in her box but this morning was a pile of crap on the family room carpet.  She has been drinking a lot of water and I am noticing she is losing weight and sleeping a lot so I suspect she may have diabetes.  When Rebekah gets back from her vacation she is going to call her vet to make an appointment.  I can not have Tinkie ruining my house and it is really breaking my heart to put her down.  She has bonded with me and I with her.  She is almost 15 years old and I can not afford to treat a elderly cat.

I, too, am worrying about Apple.

The closest place to ski is Snowbowl, which is just northwest of Flagstaff--about 2-1/2 hours drive when the weather is decent.  They went to Sunrise, which is a bigger ski resort near Hon Dah, on the White Mountain Indian lands.  it's about 5 hours drive from here--longer if the roads are messed up, like they are right now.

Found another recipe.  I haven't tried it.

Fasnacht Keichle   (Mom says it's Feast Night Cake--for before Lent)

    1 cup granulated sugar

    2 tbs lard

    1 egg

    1 cup mashed potato

    1 cup milk

    5 tps baking powder

    dash of salt

    1/8 tps nut meg

    2-3 cups flour to stiffen

    Lard for frying

    Powdered Sugar

Cream sugar and lard.  Add egg.  Beat.  Mix with unseasoned mashed potatoes.  Heat in milk.  Mix baking powder, salt, nut meg and 2 cups of flour.  Add more flour if necessary. Pat to 1/2 inch thick.  Cut with a doughnut cutter.

Deep fry.  Turn once.  Drain, dip in powdered sugar.

My mom says the frying is done in a deep fat fryer and the modern measurements were hers.  Tps is teaspoon and tbs is tablespoon.

It's apparently a dinner doughnut...if it's like any fried bread, hot from the fryer is probably better than eating them the next morning.

She also says the oil shouldn't be too hot....steamy and "bubbly" when the dough is in the lard...if it's too hot, the doughnuts don't turn out right.

Dinner tonight is Tuscan Bean soup that I cooked yesterday.  I used an America's Test Kitchen recipe as a guide but didn't follow it exactly.  The beans are cannelini beans out of the freezer.  Other ingredients are bacon, carrots, celery, onions, garlic, canned diced tomatoes, kale, parmesan reg. rinds, s & p.  Tonight I'll cook some pasta and serve the soup over the pasta.  Some slices of crostini made from a baguette.  And salad greens with a blue cheese vinaigrette.

Dinner tomorrow night is a meal I'm really looking forward to!  Because I won't cook or serve it!  We're going to a nearby restaurant which is our favorite.  I made the reservation weeks ago.

Susan, how are you doing?  Apple, we're all worried about you.  I wish we knew someone who could check on Apple.

All of you in snow country, stay warm.

Deb - there are rescue groups who can place diabetic cats.  My DD's SIL had such an issue with one of her cats and they found the rescue group who got the cat a new home.  You might ask your vet about it.  I think it was here in MA somewhere.

Apple's brother posted to her Facebook account on Thursday - a request for prayers for her.  I don't think she's doing well and she could use our love, prayers and support.  (((Apple)))

Apple, no one knows the effect that they have on someone else.  It is too bad.  It's like the movie with Jimmy Stewart.  I know that you have made me happy reading your posts and just being yourself.  I hope that you are feeling like yourself. You've brought me happiness even though we have never met, or spoken.  Hugs for feeling better and I am holding you in the light (a Quaker way of prayer.)

The news of Apple saddens me more than anyone would expect--even more than I would have expected.  Like Bedo said..I've never met her, nor seen her, except through her postings, but I've looked forward to seeing them and I've smiled when I've read them.

    (((Apple))..praying for you...

    Apple,

Your posts have always made me smile! As Bedo said so well, you never know who you will touch with each post you make... For me I love the posts where you talk about your interesting past and your children... Your pride and joy in them rings through loud and clear! You have much more to do....

Holding you close in my prayers... To loosely quote your signature line.... Sending you peace and much love, Apple!

@deborye, also ask your vet to check for a urinary tract infection, which can also cause cats to wet in the house. Your cat could have something that just needs an antibiotic to clear it up.
