    Morning all.

So pleased to see you here Leah. Take the time to rest while you can.

Naniam might as well brag as well. Have three grown up children. Our son will be home next week, I am getting excited as this time its for good. Have two daughters here. One is married and two beautiful children. They however are planning to go to Canada next year. That has hit a little snag as it has been found that DD has a heart problem so she has to see a specialist next week. It should be fine as her DH is Canadian and both children are citizens. Daughter 1 is an opera singer whose voice is stunning. Was just listening to a review of a concert she did last Saturday, everyone is raving. My DH is still working but I took early retirement four years ago as I have other health issues as well.

    Chrissy you are up early

    Big hugs to everyone.

Leah, great news. I don't think they would let us stay in the hospital for so many days here. It sounds like they are really monitoring your incisions carefully. Growing breasts, hahah.

Alyson, an opera singer ! That is such an amazing talent and skill, she must be very focused to have achieved such a level of skills. I do so love those people gifted in the arts. Me, I am more of a technician in any art, rather than one blessed with the creative talents.  Your family sounds just wonderful. Actually, aren't they all!

    Hey Chrissy!

    Love Ginger

Leah, I like that they're keeping you in longer!! Taking good care of you. We have too many hospital-acquired infections in North America to keep anyone in for too long. Even my pacemaker was day surgery!!! In and OUT!

Leah - so glad you are doing well and that your son is coming for a visit.  What a good time you will have together.

Chrissy - were you up early or just stayed up all night?  Love you my friend.

    Love and Hugs to all,

Leah, so good to hear that you're doing well!  Like Barbe, I'm glad they haven't "sprung" you yet.  Rest and recover, and when you get home you can EAT something much better than what you've been having.

Alyson, I'm so glad that your son's coming home for good.  What wonderful news for you!  Hope your daughter's heart problem is small and can be straightened out soon, too.  And your other DD an opera singer?  How wonderful that is!

Chrissy, Ginger, and AJ, good to see you.   And 3jays, always thinking about you, too, and everybody else.

    Hugs to all.

Alyson I am such a dunce. I completely missed the line that your Dd has heart issues. I apologize for reading too quickly to absorb thoroughly what you had written. I hope all is clariffied and taken care of really soon.

Boy is my brain messed up, sorry Alyson, I also missed the part about your DD's heart problems.  Hopefully they will get her all fixed up and her heart problem solved.  I also see that you DS is coming home.  What a wonderful thing to have him home for good.  I knew your oldest was an opera singer and hear her on the clip you send somewhere. (Don't remember exactly where, Facebook maybe???) anyway she has an amazing vioce and I know you are so very proud of her.

I am off to bed, see everyone tomorrow after the bone scan is done.

    Love and hugs, AJ

On Monday, while I was out, my GPs surgery rang me, leaving me a message to contact them. It was too late to get a hold of them when I picked up the message Monday evening.

Yesterday, I tried to 'phone @ 10 am...they were 'closed for training' . I tried again mid-afternoon, and got the recorded message 'this surgery is now closed (2pm!) if you require a doctor, please ring this number for the emergency service'

This morning I tried again, and the GPs receptionist informed me that my doctor had left a message for me, asking WHY I was requesting a prescription for extra tablets of Zamadol tablets ( painkillers) ....I had made NO request. Then she proceeded to tell me the rest of the message left for me by my Dr. was to say that the dose I was taking of a blood pressure tablet was the wrong dose...I had been prescribed too high a dose, and would I come to the surgery to get the dose corrected. I have actually been feeling quite 'odd' lately, and when I stand up, or suddenly turn round, the room comes up to meet me ! I have gotten into the habit of closing my eyes when I stand up, incase I am sick, or fall over. I was given an appointment for Sept 21st....in NINE days.

This surgery is getting worse, and there is no alternative practice in my area. Here, in theory, we are allowed to go wherever we want to see a doctor, but in practice very few will take you on if you are out of their geographical area...so here I am stuck.

I shall just drop a tablet, to reduce the dose, and hope I am still alive in nine days to go in and see the doctor !!

We have had 3 days of summer weather so far this week, but today we're back to rain ! I slipped out to the garden centre and bought a white winter flowering honeysuckle to plant in my garden for Marybe....to brighten up dreary days.

    Hi Isabella,

I wonderif you could look up your med dosage on the internet to determine if your symptoms would come from the dose being too high or too low? Or alternately could you ask the druggist/pharmacist before you drop a dose.  I recall my Grandma had lots of dizzines when she needed an adjustment in her BP meds. We just can't have you falling over. I do wonder why the Dor didn't just tell you over the phone before you got into trouble with this.   That practice does sound a mess.

Sending you good wishes for a nice weeks end.

Just checking up with Dr Google, and am informed that the drug I am on 'should be started in hospital' and slowly increased over a week.' keeping a close check on heart and kidney function'

It CAN lead to iregular heart beats.... something to do with long QT heartbeats (barbe ?) and can prove fatal if the dosage isn't correct . The last time my GP checked me on this, about 6 weeks ago, she just told me to double the dose, from 2 to 4 tablets, no mention of doing it slowly !!

Holy crap Isabella!!! What drug is it? I've been on blood pressure meds for 19 years now and have pretty much seen it all. At one time I was on FIVE BP meds trying to bring my BP down!!! Now it's finally stabilized between my thyroid out and my pacemaker!! Long QTs are VERY VERY bad!!! It is too long of a gap between heart beats. Yours would be medicine induced and can be stopped. But while you are having them, it is VERY VERY dangerous!! Remember, my heart started to beat again when my body hit the floor off the step stool!!!! The other time I hit the front porch floor and broke my glasses. This is serious shit, sweetie! Talk to your pharmacist. And find out WHO order more Tramadol!!!

Isabella - Barbe is right!!!!This is scary serious.  Is it possible to just go to the surgery and just stay there until the doctor will see you.  Be a bully, cry baby or whatever it takes to get seen by the doctor.  Me, I would have a double barrelled 12 gauge and the attitude to go with it, but I don't think Texas style would go over very will there. Innocent

Is there a national board of health or something like that you could report the problems about your surgery facility and doctors?  I would defiantly be calling or writing them with all the details of what has been going on with everything from your delays with the back surgery to the current BP medication foul up.

Praying for you sweetie and to talk to the chemist and find out who ordered the additional pain meds.  My bet would be your ex-DH.  Regardless, whoever it was needs to go to jail.

My bone scan went better than last time and they had a new table that was a little wider and had rails on the side so you did not feel like you would fall off if you breathed!  It still was very uncomfortable and I did have trouble walking, but DH was with me so I got home okay and he stayed with me the rest of the day.  I have slept most of the time since we got home.  He did wake me up and make me eat some grilled chicken, rice and tomatoes that he fixed for dinner.  I won't get the results for another week.  So just waiting to see what is going on with all the new pains I have been having.

Love and hugs to all, AJ

Isabella, I'm adding my voice to the others.  Like Barbe I've been on BP meds for many years (even longer than you, Barbe) and I currently take 3.  Some meds I've been on had the effect of lowering the BP too much upon getting up and caused fainting.  Some I simply could not tolerate due to dizziness, etc.  It's inexcusable that you're left on your own to straighten out your own dosages and reeks of incompetence to me.  Please try to call again and insist that you be seen sooner than 9 days.  Insist.  You of all people have the right to complain because you've been treated abominably--first your still undone surgery and now this!

AJ, glad your scan is over and I'm praying for good results for you.  Glad too that DH was there to take care of you.  Hope you'll feel like getting outside tomorrow to enjoy this wonderful weather we're having too.  The Greek Festival is this weekend in Charlotte and my whole family is going, minus me.  (I have to help make casseroles to freeze for the church bazaar.) They'll bring back lots of the pastries and baklava, though, so I'm sure going to enjoy that.

    Love to all, Kathy

Monday I saw my MO for a six month follow-up.  My annual mammo was schedualed for December but she scheduled one for yesterday.  The Radiologist talked to me afterwards and said there was nothing to worry about. Today I got a letter from the Imaging Centerthat stated "the imaging study showed an area we believe is probably beign." Then it tells me to get a follow-up exam in six months, please call for an appointment.  Does he really think I won't worry?

Thursday am.  Just got a call from my doctors surgery to ring them 'straight back' I did this within the hour.

It was to tell me that 'the prescription I ordered for more tablets' was waiting for me ! Despite having told them yesterday I did not order, nor do I want, any more tablets !

Receptionist went off muttering 'there's been a mix -up here' !!!

I see my heart Dr tomorrow, at hospital, so am hoping he will be able to sort out my dosages properly for me, as he deals with my blood pressure isues, as well as the GP. The GP is about as useful as a lettuce !!

Please let us know what your cardio says Isabella, I hope he is as upset as we are!!! I still think you need to find out who is using your pain meds for themselves!!!!

AJ, I know what you mean about the narrow table!! Mine puts up rigid sides after I lay down, but still, it's SO narrow! Do you get them to put the wedges under your knees? I have to get two wedges before I get relief. I don't let them start the machine until I know I can lie still and not writhe in agony!! Here's hoping you're just getting "old" and creaky!!

Chabba, of course you're going to worry!!! What kind of mixed message was that???? Was it a form letter? And how did it get to your house so fast?? Did the mailman pick it up at the mammo place and run to your house with it today?? I get my letters weeks later. Maybe the radiologist knew you'd get the form letter and was telling you that it was okay, but legally they had to send it to you.

Isabella, we bought two safes to stop pilfering of my drugs and other household treasures. The smaller one is a hand gun safe and is the right size for my pill bottles. If you can bolt it to a shelf it would be quite secure.   This would keep your drugs safe from those who may be taking them. It is important to know that each pill has a street value that can exceed the daily wage of many young people. I try to follow the idea of , "not tempting people to sin." That idea has caused me to be more careful with what I lay about the house.

I am sorry you have to deal with any of this. Hugs Ginger

Hello everyone, Somehow I lost this thread. It just wasn't showing up and I thought you all were being real quiet, but just realized it got dropped from favorites.

Isabella, hope you got meds straightened out with BP.

AJ, praying for good results of scan.

    chabba, how frustrating.

I've been in the city for 2 days. I had a regular check up with dermatologist. I was concerned about a spot that was forming over where my MOHS surgery was on my cheek. The doc actually said to me "That's kind of like getting grey hair on your face". LOL Is that suppose to make me feel better than old age spot? Anyway I got the all clear for another 6 months. Yay!

So I had a friend drive my car up to city with me ( I just don't trust myself on all these meds). She dropped me at a hotel near my DS's college town then drove my car home for me. DS met me and we went out to dinner and I checked out his new bachelor pad. Glad I did not stay there! He has 2 roommates and it is definitely a men's only house. Even though they are older students since they are veterans, I am not sure where that "Marine clean" training got lost.

Then the next day DS drove me back to city to see a new doc at a new hospital (well same one as derm.) for my lungs. It is kinda scary since it is called the Center for Chest Diseases. Anyway I like him. He is young and compassionate. He is very concerned about why I am on so many meds. He trained under my old pulmonary specialist, so as a professional courtesy he is going to call him to say I am switching doctors and discuss my case. He ordered a CT scan for next week and a same day appt with him to go over the results. So it feels like I am being heard and taken seriously. Finally! Then DS drove me back to the boat.

Today I went to get a massage and the therapist wouldn't give me one. Said I needed a doctor's note saying it would be ok. She gave me a bag of epsom salts and told me to take a bath. WTH?

love to all, Chrissy, Ginger, purple, LostCreek, Kathy, barbe, Leah,  hope I didn't forget anyone with my mush brain.

Well, Ginger, I've never had a dexa scan but I'd sure choose it over a migraine. (Sorry, trying to lighten things.Migraines are pure misery).

I am HOME! Yippee! I was starting to climb the walls there. I had an interesting talk with the BC nurse (nurse navigator for the BC patients) about hospital stays. She was appalled to hear about a friend of mine who went home the same day as a BMX and said the infection thing is an excuse - problems can come up that seem minor but if they're not dealt with will cause problems later on. She also agreed with me that 9 days was just tooooooo long.

When I had my umx a few years ago, having the drains didn't bother me but when they were pulled it was AGONY. So this time every time I saw the docs I said that I wanted notice before they were pulled so I could take something. EVERYONE in the dept knew! I figured the painkiller I was using would be fine but then the nurse came in and said, "The doc will be in to pull your drains and has ordered a percocet for you". MUCH stronger than what I'd been taking, but who am I to say no? Fortunately, it worked.

Yay, Leah drains out and home!!!!

Ginger Boo! for the migraine, those are no fun! Hope they can reschedule the scan soon.

Off to biofeedback! Not sure what I think of it yet. It works while I am practicing it at her office, but i'm not real good at practicing it on my own.

My massage therapist looked terrified when she realized I had a mx and nodes removed. She said deep tissue massage should never be done due to lymph risk. She made me promise it would be the first thing out of my mouth when seeing a massage person.

  • Alyson
    Alyson Member Posts: 3,737

Purple, I agree with Wren. You must always use a person who knows about lymphoedema and deep massage is the worst if you have had a mx and node removal. Even my LE therapist caused problems for me when she tried a method of using pressure points supposedly to relieve pain. I was in agony for days. Maca, how are you? And you really should be careful about hot baths as well. I have LE in my arm and side but I do have a bath, its RA or LE and when it comes to a relaxing bath which my joints are screaming for, I have one but be careful about putting my arm under too much.

Have had some beautiful days and now a storm is brewing, well I suppose its spring.

DD has just called to say she is coming over as her DH is trying to complete a contract and needs a couple of hours of peace.

Hope you all have a great day

    Big hugs.

yup, i used to be a massage therapist, earlier in life.. they're suppossed to take a full, in depth health history before, and no therapist in their right mind, would do any massage on a bc patient, w/out a drs note.. for tissue/ nerve damge, and the lymph system.. they can modify it, and it can still be enjoyable. i like my neck rubbed, bt it has to be very gently, bc its a major sight for lymph drainage..

you may ask around, we have a therapist here, who specializes in lymph drainage.. its' a much lighter touch, and then she deepens it for my trigger points in the scapula..

I'm afraid the days of anything easy are gone..

Leah!!I was soo pleased to see you're home, and w/out drains is amazing.. mine stayed in so long, the tissue was beginning to grow around it, and they had to use a sclpel to start it to move..

i've been lighting a candle for you, right beside Marybe's .. even though it s officially been a week, we're going to keep it till her "party" in Ohio sunday, the 16th..

Anyone who doesn't know how to post pics, pm me.. i've been collecting some cards, and pics, that i'll post, and you can write your rememberances with them.. just pm me..

A lady in Photobucket gave me an awesome site, and taught me how to do stuff with frames, and such.. let me know what you'd like, or i will post examples here, on this site..

so, sept 16th they'll be "fresh" and Tim and Daddy, and her local friends will be able to see how loved she was, if we can't physically be there, we'll be in spirit.. spread the word. i'm praying for a big turnout...........3jays

Oh, chrissy, I love the pic for the banner, been meaning to ask you where is it in the world? ya never know with you!!!
