INSOMNIACS place to talk in the wee hours

Just popping in real quick as I need to get back to my yard work. Now there is a love/hate relationship if there ever was one.
Interesting on the dirt discussion. My mom would have been 96. She was sick a lot as a child and the doctor told my grandmother to let her get dirty. She was keeping her too clean. I guess there is some truth in the old adage, "You've got to eat a peck of dirt in your lifetime."
I guess your DD will be finished her first year of college soon. Around here they are in exam week this week or next week with the mad rush to get graduating seniors' grades in. It seems like yesterday that you were telling us she was starting.
Sas, love the sound of your bathroom. Can't wait until it's finished so we can see pics.
Ah, baby pictures. They are soooo adorable.
Smaarty, you are so talented.
Feline, your avatar always puts a smile on my face. Such an inquisitive look on your cat's face.

Donnie is the MAN. He happened to come as I was writing the last post about egress. He says "You should look now" A 4 foot swath. I had mentioned it last night. Done. But sheesh, I said simply " That bathtub is dangerous" OMD thousands of dollars latter he's made sure I'm safe. Must be careful what I next utter. Obviously, kidding. Bless him truly.
Any ideas of what to do with a 3 ft deep garden tub. My dream would be a fountain with lilypads. It's fiberglass. I own it --always a big draw. Thinking about a pergola above it to keep hawks from the birds. Doing something that birds can land without sinking. Plus, a sand thingy for them to do their sand baths. Donny can run water and electrical to it off the other lines he ran.
Just bought the handle, diverter, spray, and rain shower. Ridiculous price. Did you know that all companies make an A,B,C,D grade products. And they all can come with a life time guarantee? But this units vertical bar is a guaranteed hand rail as well as allows the handheld to move up and down and lock. Of course, the only one in the show room with that characteristic. But also, was one of the cheapest.. No it doesn't have colored LED lights. Bummer. Saw those on the internet. Fun, but many mixed reviews on working. Supoosin c &d products.

Kathy, we have to keep the dirt discussion going. A doc friend that was Chinese said to me when we were talking about polio was that "In his country it was associated with families that were to clean". In the 50's when we had it, the three families within 5 houses could be considered that way. Another family blocks away could be considered the same way. But all off us were babies or toddlers. The one far away was an adult.
Dirt brings life to the world through all that grows and lives on that that grows. The stuff in the dirt i.e elements can be depleted by bad farming. The ingenuity of crop rotation while not studied fascinated me that for many thousands of years farmers knew this. Only recently b/c of pesticides was standard crop rotation not done. Dad told me about crop rotation, and then I belatedly found out about the horrors of the beginning of the last century about pesticides. Used in amounts that were very high, with the kids riding on the machine being covered with it. My conclusion, Re: our tendency for cancer on the paternal side is for this very reason. They were farmers convinced there was a better way. They did it the "better way" pesticides. SOOOOOOOoooooooomany are dead now with hx of cancers and it's into 2nd and 3rd generations. But I did read one study awhile back re: resilient genes. It said effectively after a couple of generations, the genes clean themselves up. May not sound great, but I thought it quite wonderful.
So, I think I will go find this dirt bacteria

Too much stuff out there going to do a science form topic. It will take awhile . you can follow. The first phase is gathering articles. then analysis, then synthesis. YAY DIRT.

Saw the MO today, he wants me on Xeloda. We're going to wait two weeks to let the mouth have time to heal. Susan, did you say you've been on it for 2 years? Because of how discouraged I got while on halaven, he doesn't want to throw a big chemo at it, he said that even though it's a fairly old drug it's often very effective, and not as hard on the body. If it turns out not to be effective, we still have a lot of other options. So I will start on the 15th.
I had such bad mouth pain last night that I decided to take my chances with the morphine again. Had no side effects, no hallucinations. So I've been taking it regularly. Best thing, it lifts the pain in about 10-15 minutes, which is amazing. I'm still putting Oragel on the spot that's screaming but not needing nearly as much as before.
And I doubled my magnesium dose to 1000 mg a day and the neuropathy and twitches and such are distinctly less than before.
Having a kitty visit on my lap so I will sign off now. *waves at everyone*

Mags sorry you are being buggered by a spot. Glad the Morphine is behaving. Orajel!!!!!!!! When well tell me about the magnesium. Call when you are up to it. I won't call. I do so love the sound of your voice. It's one of the most calming in the world. It's like taking Valium. Please, don't take offense at that. Bless you

Wenchie, and all the gardners here, which is just about close to everyone but me. Got the dirt thread started the Mycobacterium Vaccae is the bug that makes you happy. Now I leave it to you how to increase that in your dirt. But please post your results on the Dirt thread. Science is so fun
Questions I will post on the Dirt thread.
Mycobacterium Vaccae( MV) can it be reproduced? Can it be preferentially be produce without contaminants(other bacteria)? Can it be too much for a garden? What affect does crop rotation have on it's abundance? Are there crops that produce more? Should there be crops left fallow to replete the soil for MV? Are there soil tests for MV? Is it against the law to sniff MV or taste MV? Can soil with MV be carried across state lines? Is the Government aware that it creates a sense of well being? Hmmm well being, the government is always against well being..............
Okay that was fun............... Love you, Marilyn

Wenchie , I am into the sauce, but if science has identified this MV as a source of serotonin it explains not just the gardeners and farmers love of the soil. It's a God given symbiotic relationship. Symbiosis without going to the net for a neat clean definition is: two organisms that learn to live together in mutual harmony b/c they compliment each other and allow for the continued growth of each other. That's probably fancier than the Merriams definition. But it made me happy making it up b/c gardeners and their dirt are one.

Sassy - I vote for a doggie spa for the backyard. On hot days your dogs can take a dip in the old bathtub.
You are happy about having rain and we've had more than enough for the last 6 mos. However, this Wednesday & Thursday are going to be in the 80's and humid. YUCK, YUCK, YUCK!
Mags - So glad you are getting relief from the mouth pain.
Feline - You are right, the Bold button is all wonky. When I do use it I cannot turn it off, so I have to delete the sentence and go back to one that isn't bolded, then start over. What a pain in the arse.
Hey there kathindc - Gardening is quite the job, but the end result is so satisfying. I always pay dearly in the pain dept., but I do enjoy it.
Earlier this evening I opened a drawer looking for something and look what I found:
My first pair of Baby shoes! Can't believe that my feet were ever this little.
Ok, Goodnight to everyone. Sleep well and Happy Wacky Wednesday to all!

Heard the dog snoring this morning as I did was loading the dishwasher. Went to see if he was okay and he wasn't on his dog bed, nor was he napping by his Daddy's chair. Looked behind my chair where he sometimes naps and again no luck. Started walking back into the kitchen and I happen to see a bit of tan and white fur. Found him napping under my kitchen table in his favorite spot where he likes to nap during summer days. Silly boy!!!!!

We watched Guardians of the Universe again tonight. Can you guess my favorite character? Yeap, the raccoon! I also love Groot!

I so want to see the next one! Just adore Groot!

I cried along with Racoon while he sat holding a twig from Groot. The new "Groot" looks like she'll be a wild child.

What's Guardian of the Universe?
paid for the doors yesterday, ridiculous money. 3-4 weeks before delivery. Donnie I think is going to do the remodel. He has a couple of friends to help with specific things. One on the shower pan and tile, and another is a carpenter. Still no definitive yet.
Mags glad the Morphine is working and the orajel. Was it your friends that ate Oklahoma dirt?
