I had a wonderful Mother's Day weekend even though I worked my butt off (I wish!!) my DH Stu took me to Menards, gave me a cart and said to pick out what I needed/wanted for our garden. I picked out a few things, found him and he says "That's it?!" So off we went and I got so many things that we really needed. I was shocked when I was the one wanting a new grill. We had a blast! My favorite toy is my new garden seat Sporty Jr! I love it! No more getting up to move my bucket on to the next straw bale 😊

ok Lori, I can see the seat, so you have to use feet power to make it move? Like flintstones?

Junie, a good chiropractor is worth their weight in gold. Alas, I haven't got one now. Hope you are feeling better today.

    Hi Teka (waving)

Loverly, thanks for thinking of that re: supplements. It's a very good thought. I often found people had that problem. I take my levo in the middle of the night to avoid interference. Except, I do take my Ativan for sleep often times with the thyroid med. Is there anyway you can check to see if you can find any info re interference?

    Wenchi nice bucket Hahahaha

I had a fun day with Steve and Donnie at dinner in Celebration Florida @ Columbia---divine food. It's a dog friendly restaurant. We took Schatzi..She's lost her shyness about the place. Wanted to great everyone and go inside. She was exhausted and slept for hours when we got home.

Yay, message is to MO, I'll have his response in a couple of days or less. Hoping for a simple increase of levo, but we will see.

Loverly, I checked a bunch of sources and there is no inter-reaction between the drugs. I knew there wasn't, BUT very worth a second look when trouble is a foot :)

Lori, I'm still trying to get my hair back to where it was before chemo took it. I had mine down to my waist where it had been since high school. It's only about mid-back so far

Just raining here. Might be partly cloudy by Thursday.

It's cloudy with a nice cool breeze here, but no rain....good napping weather.

Lori, nice new toy. What a sweet DH you have.

Ms. Sas, nothing comes up for benzos with levothyroxine. You take the levo on an empty stomach and have not recently changed brand, I presume.

Ok, got to pluck myself off this comfortable chair and go finish cleaning. Mitzy sheds like crazy this time of the year. I should put clothes on her Loopy

Loverly,Thanks on the levo. I called the pharmacy to see when they last changed manufacturers. I've had two refills since they changed.. I take the levo in the middle of the night to avoid the food thing and drug or supplement worries. If I sleep, I tend to get up around 3 am + -. to pee. That's when I take the levo. I'm working on the doc thing. Always sumpin.

Mommy & Wren perfect here sunny and 86. Were in a drought. Having just enough rain to keep the wild fires down.

    EEYore whoohooooooooo How you doing?

    Mags? Junie? Shep?.Susan?

Well, we had 80's last week, and 60's today. So as punishment, we are under a winter storm watch from 3am Wednesday through 6am Thursday. (sigh) Springtime in the Rockies.

Hey Owlettes! Well Sassy called me this afternoon and we had an unusually short conversation - under 2 hours. What did we talk about? Who knows! It's what we do.

Had a great time with son's MIL last week, we did a few things but mostly sat and got acquainted; we've only met in person a couple of times, connected immediately, been Facebook friends for 10 years, now we are heart sisters. We did get to the Oklahoma Memorial Museum; no matter how many times I go, it always affects me deeply.

So I am now completely toothless. The surgeon didn't install the posts because I had bleeding issues. Spent 4 hours in recovery. Surgeon says it's no big deal, it's a procedure he can do in the office, and I'm healing well. I'm not wearing the dentures much, trying to let the gums heal more quickly. OK, I'm also procrastinating what I know I have to do - learn to talk and eat all over again, with dentures. Do I miss solid food? Yes. Would I love a thick juicy steak? Yes. Oh well. Tonight we had meatloaf, green beans, baked potato. I could eat everything except the potato skin. Rose loves those anyway.

And I started my new chemo yesterday, Xeloda. I'm very optimistic, as many people on it have been NED or close to it for long periods of time. So 3 pills twice a day, and I'm on the way. I'm wondering if I will lose the little hair I have with this. When it started coming out with halaven, I had it shaved. My hairdresser noticed that it was just patchy. Well, it has regrown, kinda. It's still pretty short, and it's very very thin - enough that you can see my scalp through the little hair that is there. When I saw my hairdresser at the end of March he did a bit of a trim, but he can't make it look presentable. So I cover up when I go out.

So it's now taken about 2 hours to write this, since I've been watching the weather and Hoarders. There's been one tornado tonight but there's more lines of storms on the way, due here in about 20 minutes or so.

I still read everything, but I retain so little it's unsettling. There are times I can hold a coherent conversation but I've lost so much just plain information that a lot of the time I just feel like I'm going through the motions. Oh well. Be well, y'all.

Went to a toast and roast event for a friend of hubby and me. Had never been to one until last night. My sides still hurt this morning from laughing so hard.

Hello MTwoman I'm so glad you came and joined in on the weather reports. I hope you come daily. Bummer on your weather report. Snow in May Ouch. When my Dh and I left Akron Ohio in end of March 92 for Florida. It snowed the day we left. Only been in snow once since then. DO NOT miss it at all. Be safe

Everyone I invited MTw to join us. She's got an amazing sense of humor and is even more amazing in her kindness.

Mags, Hugs, the memory chit sucks. I really enjoyed our conversation as usual. Hope all the talking didn't hurt your mouth. Nice you were able to eat so much.

Mommy Toast and Roast is this a new party thing. Sounds fun. Used to watch the old ones in the Carson era.

Update on the remodel. Settled on a tile guy. He has a plan sequence which is better than the other two. Price is better. The vanity comes today. It will be sitting in the front room for months. Donny has everything torn up which is good, but what a mess. Difficult to keep up with the dust. But it is nice to be moving along.

Everyone stay safe with the weather :)

MTw, welcome! Snow in May? Double yuck!

I over did it this past two weeks and now it's caught up with me. Feeling achy with a headache, sore throat and my sinuses have gone wild. I'm thinking it's from being outside in the wind and there's a lot of fuzz flying around from the cottonwood trees. I'm just kicking my feet up and zoning out on Paranormal Witness. Some of these people are totally brainless in what they do. LOL

Mags, I remember well watching those lines of storms which might have twisters. Happily, I never experienced one.

MTwoman, Hope your snow isn't supposed to last long. I agree that May is NOT supposed to be winter.

When I was in Jr High, we had a "Gifted Minors" field trip down to the Grand Canyon in May. None of us brought snow gear and we camped at the South Rim so we could all hike down to the bottom of the canyon and spend a few days camping there, and then hike back out (it was a week long trip).

    And guess what? It SNOWED!

I never froze so much in my life...even with two pairs of socks on my feet and on my hands. I just shivered in the tent in my sleeping bag all night long with the rest of the kids. Thankfully, it only snowed for a day, but that was enough. I'll never forget it. I probably lost 5 pounds just from shivering so much, ha ha.

yeah, I just went home and changed into shoes (I conveniently enough wore flip flops this morning :/). Snow still accumulating. 34 degrees. It somehow feels colder than the same conditions in winter. 5 lb weight loss would be the absolute best silver lining, Lita! maybe I should have left on my flips :p

8 tornados last night, one fatality.

A bit better today, though I woke up wondering if anyone got the number of the truck that hit me. Took an Adderall, then another a few hours later. Finally felt human. Put my pills up for the week then joined DH in the den for our evening dose of Family Feud and Expedition Unknown.

My gums are hurting tonight. It would probably be ok if I could stop fidgeting with them with my tongue. I'm so bad about that. I finally doused my mouth in viscous lidocaine (slimy, ew!) which helps a little. I need to eat something soon so I can take my Xeloda.

The weather here has been rainy, overcast, windy and cold with some intermittent splotches of sunshine for 5-10 mins. at a time. But starting tomorrow it is supposed to get into the 70's, then Friday and into next week it is forecast to be in the high 80's and possibly 90's. Why can't Mother Nature give us a little bit at a time instead of one extreme to the other. She's bipolar so I've been told.

Loverly - Kirby was such a good boy at the quilting group on Saturday. He got a lot of "Oh how cute" & "How adorable". He sat on my walker and watched everything. Then on Tuesday when I had my appts. with my MO, treatment and Palliative Care, Kirbers again enjoyed the abundant attention from the staff and many patients as well. After all the attention calmed he just lay on the floor and played with his toy or slept. I am so amazed at how well he behaves at only 7.5 mos.

Glad your braised chicken turned out well.

Hey Sheppers! - Did you get my text? I am phoneless until Friday, but will call on Saturday if you're up to it.

Wenchie - I love your little seat/cart. That would come in handy when I do weeding.

Sas - Headache has been much better. Chiropractor adjusted neck on Friday, then on Monday the Massage Therapist worked specifically on my upper back, neck and head. Made a huge difference and the nausea was gone from last Friday thru yesterday, then had a small bout today. I'll be going back to volunteer tomorrow. I don't know how in the world other people deal with headaches on a regular basis. They SUCK! Or maybe I'm just a whimp!

Glad the renovation is moving along. Do you think it'll be done by the Holidays?

I hope everyone had a nice Mother's Day. I spent it mostly on the couch taking two naps and watching two movies on HBO. "Sully" and last years "Jason Bourne" I thought they were both good.

I baked Chocolate/Chocolate Chip Zucchini bread on Monday and used my LAST 2 tsp. of vanilla. When I went to Costco today I looked at the same 16 oz. bottle I'd bought before and nearly fainted from the sticker shock. The bottle I bought before for $6.99 is now $24.99. Is there some kind of vanilla shortage in the world I didn't hear about? I was given a recipe last summer to make my own vanilla, so I think I'll just do that. It takes 6 mos to finish, but the flavor is amazing. So if I get it going by June, it will be ready for my Christmas baking.

The recipe uses a mid-grade vodka and vanilla beans. Finished product gives incredible flavor to whatever you bake.

Well, I'm going to call it a night and go curl up with my pillow & dog for the night. Sleep well all.

It's gonna be hotter here today than yesterday. Expecting 90 or better. Gonna get more summer shirts down this morning to cope with this heat. We usually don't see these temps until July! Thankfully it will be cooler tomorrow and go back to normal by the weekend

JunieB, I've made my own vanilla before as gifts for my Mom (who loves to cook) and sister. It got rave reviews! My recipe called for using cognac/brandy as the base, but the intent is the same. Some of my Mom's foodie friends actually would drink some in a very small sherry glass straight up :p Your Christmas goodies will be extra good this year.

Woke to snow still on the ground, but hopes that the "winter" storm has passed and we can return to more normal temps by the end of the weekend.

Wenchi, so sorry on the allergies. Not sure why we haven't had the pine pollen dust like usual this year. Generally, everything is covered for a couple of weeks. The first spring 1992, I wasn't that many years away from the disaster/EMS work. I walked out on the deck and yellow dust covered everything. My reaction was there was a chemical spill on 95.and we weren't told. Everyone laughed at me.

Lita, did you ever go camping after that experience? Were you or any of the others afraid you wouldn't get out? Had a bad canoe experience one time "The canoe ride from hell". Never went canoeing again.

Mags, Yup fidgeting with your tongue can increase inflammation. Are you doing salt water rinses? You told me, but I forget. Swish, hold, and spit. Swish with water, then the viscus. Glad you were okay with the tornado's. I watched Twister the night before. Closest I want to come to them.

Junie, Hahahah Mother Nature bipolar. Funny. We are in phone tag, I forgot who's tagged, so, I'll just call. I so, hope the reno will be done by the holidays. Choas in every room. On the vanilla, can you drink it to? Like a cordial? What kind of bottle? Do you just let it rest or do you shake it up?

MTw, page turned and there's your description of vanilla. What kind of bottle do you use?

Mtw and Junie could you each write your exact vanilla recipe, please?

  • MTwoman
    MTwoman Member Posts: 228

I used a lovely decorative bottle (as it was a gift) that had a rubber gasket ratchet-y sort of top :) It was probably 250-300 ml. I placed 2 vanilla pods (sliced lengthwise to allow for more contact with the little nuggets of love on the inside) in the bottle and then covered that with the cognac/brandy (it wasn't an expensive kind, E&J maybe). I let that sit for 2-3 months (I didn't get as nice a head start as Junie) before I gifted it. I do remember that she said it kept getting better over time. A dark colored glass will give a better result as sunlight causes is a bit of degradation to the vanilla oils. Also, I did turn the bottle over a few times weekly (not really shaken) to mix up the liquid and facilitate contact with the vanilla seeds.

I buy vanilla from the company I sell it for. The company has been in business since the late 1860s and its products are naturally based. My mother and MIL are my best customers when it comes to the vanilla
