Inside of the Rock Church
Outside of the Rock Church ( Temppeliaukio Church).
This church is carved from a huge boulder. There were at least 4 police cars outside. I am assuming for security purposes. They were good looking policemen. They all looked like they were from the swat team. Was so tempted to take a picture of them close up, but I was afraid they would throw me in jail
If you look closely, two policemen stand against the wall watching. The first pic shows two black police jeeps park right in front of the church. Not sure why they were there at the church but not at other tourist areas in Helsinki.

Loverly, Finns seemed really tall to me. Do you think so too, or was I just running into some really tall ones? I was on a travel agent trip that went to Moscow, flew to (then) Leningrad, and took the train to Helsinki. Things were so drab in Russia and so bright and cheerful in Helsinki. It was like going from a black/white movie to color.

Waving hello to everyone. Loving the pictures of your trip Lover. I'm so ready for my vacation in July, though now I have to worry about Chance. If everyone can send good doggie thoughts his way. He was DX with Lar Par on Friday, and he will need surgery sooner than later. Trying to figure out best place to take him. First estimate is 3500 ( do I really need savings when I'm older?).

Sensi, was just thinking about you and Chance this morning when I woke up. Was going to text you to see how your boy is doing and here you are. So tough when they get old. Trying to do the compassionate thing is not always clear with emotions involved. Hugs to you and your baby.
Ms. Wren, seems to me there are more taller people in Finland. Beautiful and friendly people. Saw some Gypsies ( I think) here too. Helsinki is quite colorful.
Can't seem to download pics at the moment. We have arrived in St. Petersburg. Hopefully, no subway on this tour.

thanks for thinking of Chance and I. He's on restriction for a while. Need to keep him calm and cool. I'm going to call a couple of places tomorrow and figure out where to take him for consult. As much as I hate to spend what little savings I have, I can't not do it, if he is a good candidate for surgery.

I spent all day yesterday sleeping, I just can't figure out why I'm so tired all of a sudden. I just need enough energy to get the branches picked up from the weekend storms, mow the yard, check my garden and see what the storm has dropped in the pool. I'm tired just thinking about it! Ggrrrrrr

Had a sleep study last night. Failed, but we will see what the treatment plan is. I so don't want to have to use CPAP. Oh well, it always sumpin.
On the suggestion on the Library thing. I did a thread trying to consolidate old posts b/c I was reinventing the wheel to often. "Pain and Other Things". It's old stuff, Fibro stuff for Mags(complete repost from outside with credit to the author), and new stuff. I wish I had started it from the beginning. I talked Yoga Girl into doing one too.
In things we talk about here we can place them permanently into a storage thread. What will happen though is someone will come along and chat. Which is fine. The key is to keep it from becoming a social thread.

On our way back to St Petersburg from Peterhof. We have wifi from the tour van, but mobile phone battery is low. Saw Yusupov palace plus Catherine palace. Crazy how these imperial families had extravagant lifestyles. Most of their art works were influenced by Europe, given the location of St Petersburg.

These people must have spent a lot their time horizontal because most of their beautiful art works areon the ceiling. St Petersburg is a young city (300 years). compared to other cities in Europe.

Wenchi that's a normal evolution of topics and threads. Many times folks become friends and like to stay just where they are. The best place to find info on a technical thread is in the first 25-30 pages. HotFlash Forum is an example. We worked hard finding evidenced based material. Later on it became a rehash of the earlier pages.
Insomniacs wanders all over the place. We hash a topic, then when it wears out, we go digest something else.
That's part of why I think we can do Fibro here. A bunch of us have fibro. We can pick it apart, until we are done picking, then move on.

Amber room. Wall was made from amber. The Nazis stripped the room before they left St Petersburg. It took the Russian 24 years to restore the room. They spent 15 million (3 million given by Germany) on the project.

Whenchie, Sorry about the tiredness. For me I have to give in a sleep. Otherwise the mind isn't happy. Like yesterday up at 5:30 AM, bright rested. Part of the sleep study instruction were no naps after 12 noon. Yup, sleep attack at 11:50 am. No choice about giving in, slept for an hour and 3/4's. I coined the word sleep attack. Definition: unrelenting overwhelming need to sleep and either I get flat or I might go out where ever I am.

Sassy, I know there was no way I could keep my eyes open yesterday. Not so bad today but if it hits I'll fall off my mower and take a nap in the grass. I'd take a dip in the pool to wake up but it's been in the high 90s here so the pool is more like a warm bath. I'd be afraid I'd fall asleep in my REALLY big bathtub!

Cancer related Fatigue(CRF) it has it's own acronym. It's officially recognized as a problem. It's a step up from fatigue. That is huge in the research world.
Ritalin and Adderall. Just as I guessed the party started without us. Earliest mention of one of the drugs is 2010. I am going to put a few links here for your review.

Another article about Ritalin from Journal of Clinical Oncology The publishing arm of ASCO. This article analyses several studies and compares why their results were different. Basically, it's not definitive. But that's not a bad thing. Ritalin is still on the table to be studied. That's good. The opposite could have been that Ritalin was determined to have absolutely no benefit. For now, I will take indecisive.

Sensi - So sorry to hear of Chance's health challenge. How extensive is the surgery and is Chance healthy otherwise? Any possibility you'd be able to take him to Davis University Veterinary School outside of Sac.?
Check into Care Credit for Chance's surgery. It is a credit card for medical, dental and veterinary expenses. They offer promotional payment plans for 0% interest as long as you finish paying off the total within that period. Otherwise the interest is like 26.00% retroactive. I have used it many times in the past, but always made sure to pay within the promotional period. The provider usually can offer promotions of 12-18 or 24 mos. depending on the total cost of the procedure. I hope this is helpful to you. I am going to need to use this avenue for Kirby's surgery next week. (Neutering)
Sas - If a person has hypertension and an arrhythmia, would it be safe to use the Adderall or Ritilan?
Also, you may want to place a stool or something next to your tub and leave a towel there so you don't have to toodle through the house all wet and risk slipping. ;0)
Feline - That pic of St. Anne's Church is very pretty. What year was it first built? I love old churches.
Loverly - Pics of the churches are wonderful. The architecture is amazing. Especially considering much of it has been around for centuries. The palaces are very extravagant, but so beautiful. Can you imagine how many poor people could be feed & educated with the money spent on those structures? This seems like a trip of a lifetime.
Wenchie - Hi to you too. Sorry you're experiencing the awful fatigue. You aren't that far out from finishing your radiation treatment, so just give yourself a break and listen to your body. But please NO sleepy mowing. Too dangerous!
Also, I saw some really cool posts on FB last night that showed how one can grow fruits, herbs and some veggies from seeds of the ones you have. It showed how to take strawberry seeds and prepare them for planting. Also, a lemon tree, tomatoes, avocados, etc. Pretty cool stuff. One could spend a lot of time on FB if you're not careful.
Mags - Just waving Hi. How are you feeling?
Well, I took the Kirbster for a walk on Saturday to a small park about a 1/2 mile from where I live. Once there I let him run on his retractable leash and after I regrouped my energy I decided to try and walk to a friends house to see if I could do it. Once I got there it turns out she wasn't home, but she had given me permission to rest on her porch for as long as I needed. Kirby and I visited with her kitty Max, who wasn't too sure about this wiggly, noisy little puppy who had disturbed his nap on the porch railing. Anyway, by this time it was about 82 degrees and humid. So Kirby and I just walked at a slow leisurely pace and we stopped at the Safeway store for a beverage and I rested in the A/C for about an hour, then continued the last 1/2 mile back home. All in all we walked approx. 2 miles total. My hips & shoulders sure complained. I rested for awhile once home, then for some unknown reason decided to attack the weeds in my yard. I barely made it to church yesterday and I was kinda hoping someone would just shoot me and put me out of my misery (not really). I doubt I will ever learn the definition of MODERATION. Ahh! so thick headed sometimes.
Then last evening I had the opportunity to talk with my sister and we were able to get caught up. Her oldest son who has Asperger's, but does very well in school and sports and was chosen to go to a football camp at Notre Dame last week. That is my sister's husbands' Alma Mater and both of her sons want to go to college there too. We discussed my flying out there again, but there is just no way because the flights are just too high. I am not sure how or if this will ever happen. But we will have to see. Our father would have been 81 on May 8th if he hadn't been murdered in 2000.
Anyway, I now need to go shower and take care of some errands, so I be back later. Have a great afternoon ladies.

Sas-Lar Par is laryngeal paralysis. Basically the flaps around his larynx that are suppose to open and close aren't working. The one side is completely closed and the other is weakend. For surgery, called a "tie back" they sew the flap so it stays open, making it easier to breath. Setback is that it puts him at an increased risk of aspiration and or pneumonia.
Didn't call consult place today as I was doing more research. Hate that I still have fog brain at times and have a hard time focusing.

Wenchie, Oh the sleep attack sheesh. The worst was when I took the RAI131 for thyroid cancer. I was supposed to drink water incessantly for forgotten number of hours. But I had a sleep attack when I got home. Went to sleep for several hours. Had no choice. Out. That put the pill in the stomach way to long. and the radiation way to long near the pancreas and transverse colon. OH well. .............Seriously, you would have to sleep in the grass? That's a major sleep attack.
The tub is great, but I'm developing thoughts for them already. Like all their R&D folks should have one in their house or in a test room. Water spitting all over the place up the back. So far methinks, I won't be able to run the jets without a towel on the back to prevent spray. I will hold in abeyance other thoughts, till the room is done.
But it does feel like sitting in a rocket ship. With rocket ship controls. No way someone without faculties should ever be left for a minute in this tub. Turn a wrong thingy a burn could occur.
My first suggestion to the company for a bidirectional safety thing is the inclusion of a thermometer. With directions for temperature way lower than what is recommended for Jacuccis's.(sic). It's primary advertisement is directed at seniors.
In the senior age group one of the failing things is Temperature regulation. We are more subject to overheating without being able to dissipate the heat. So, water regulation temperature is very important. OH MY off on a mild rant. LOve the thing
But since I'm into the sauce, I'll share another thing that they don't share in the advertisement. You are in this locked unit. You're okay until you stand up. Then the cold air hits. What happens is I peed..........stepped out the first time ..no control......peed....second time stayed in anticipating this. Could be just me.......I experience the same thing when I get out of the pool and go into the house with air-conditioning, I run for the bathroom. Cold air hit's the bottom---pee. Okay, there it is for the world to hear.

Sensi, My JB ( registered as Jimmy Buffet Turk). Had that particular scenario, but they didn't have that term then. My vet couldn't recognize what the problem was. She set me up with a call to a vet at University of Florida. That vet in the first minutes asked "Do you use a collar or a harness". I realized immediately what she was saying. Broke my heart. It was pressure on the larynx structures. We chose not to have surgery for the tacking procedure b/c JB had rectal adenoma problems that were recurrent i.e rectal carcinoma.
I became and advocate for harnesses. That was in the 1990's. It was little know then. Apparently hasn't become known now.
Dog's that pull on their collars are prone to develop paralysis of the structures around the larynx.
So, sorry Sensi you are going through this. Just sucks. If Chance is in otherwise good health. The surgery is good. Tack away!

Sensi, I used Care Credit for my DS's boxers. One of his dogs was poisoned and had to stay at the vet hospital for a week and shortly after that my favorite boxer of his Shatzi, got heart worms and I had to do something to save her and Care Credit covered her treatments also. My last dog Abbey-Gail had to be put to sleep due to a very aggressive bone cancer. Credit Care covered that and her cremation so I could have her with me forever. They are a great source and totally understand the love we have for our four legged babies. My vet's office manager handled the calls for me so I didn't have to do a thing but focus on my son's pups and grive for my Abbey.
I made it through all day yesterday with no sleep attack. Thank goodness! I can handle a sleepy day every now and then as long as it doesn't move in and take over. Sssheeesh!

Well, hopingly (as my cousin says) today is post day! I'm offf to the oral surgeon in a couple of hours to have the posts for my lower plate installed. Then hopingly (again) I can eat real food again!
Our friend who has been in seminary in Scotland is in town for his 40th high school reunion and joined us for dinner on Father's Day, volunteered to drive me, which I thought was sweet. It gives us a chance to catch up. We don't get to see him often, for obvious reasons, but he's family to us in a weird sort of way, and very dear.
So I took an adderall when I woke up, but the xeloda fatigue is so heavy I may need a second! I've done nothing but sleep since Monday. I sit up for an hour or so, then my eyes start closing on me and I'm gone for 3-4 hours. But I have to get up now. So ttfn, bbl.
