    Thank you Smaarty & Feline,

The infectious disease doctor came by this morning and let me know that my blood cultures are growing critters and it is good I came to the hospital when I did. I was headed for sepsis.

They are doing new cultures today to narrow down the exact bacteria family in order to tailor my treatment to that bacteria.

So hard to imagine that this whole episode started when I tripped over Kirby coming back from a walk and banged my right elbow against my front door.

I did not know that a small trauma like that can lead to cellulitis.

Anyway, that is all for now. BBL.

OMD cold. We are having 30-40 degree weather at night and below whatever during the day. 50-60-'s . Have to put on long pants and socks and blankets. Very, very disconcerting.

    Socks are very uncomfortable.

Loverly, your pot actually said " Burn"?

Shep I cut and pasted the Share info to JD_GP thread.

    Mommie--------cold very cold

rlj's welcome, your funny, we like funny in the midst of stuff. YAY for funny. Damn credit cards make it way to easy to have fun when we want it.. Then the piper says "PAY". I get "guys" too. Everything is so hyper now. We have to think every friggen word. "You guys" was a universal word phrase for decades and decades. (I'm old). It was alwys said with warmth and love. Now we feel like we have to apologize. UGH>

Tammy Honey bring it on, except we are here 24/7

Tessie NO you are not unreasonable about getting your results. Use these words "You have the right to the medical record, I have the right to the medical information".

The procedure to get the info is Call the medical records department of the facility that did the tests and ask if the

    1. The record for the requested information has been signed? Each department has to have a final physician signature before it can be released. The rules generally follow must be signed with in 24 hours of the test.

    2. You have a right to all documents.

    3. Get them as soon as possible after each happening. They can be altered. The rules supposedly prevent this. But I and my SIL have each experienced altered documents after we had original signed documents in our possession. These documents did not stated in the subsequent documents that they had addendums or were substitutions for the first documents. Legally, they were both problems.

    4. They legally have a right to charge a page fee

I will add . It's been awhile thinking this response.

Okay back after re-reading your post for the third time. Where are you? My thought is you are in a medical wasteland. There are many in the USA and else where. But Tell us your city and state. Seriously we can get you to some help. Even if we suggest a conference call. Your delay in info is not acceptable

  • sas-schatzi
    sas-schatzi Member Posts: 15,894

Tessie, once the Lab doc or imaging doc has signed off you can go into Medical records with a photo id and sign a release form and get a release of records.

With Pathology results that's more difficult depending on the facility. I always was able to obtain pathology reports before my docs. But you have to be prepared to read negative results. Whereas, a doc can interpret them in a way to make them sound /be different. My pathology report said "Unfavorable outcome" (2009). Are you prepared to read that?

But remember the words "You may own the medical record, but the information in the medical record is mine"

    Edited: to remove offending phrase

Concerned, okay it's now the 11th Monday. Biopsy was the Friday. How are you doing? Member chronic pain gave you excellent advice. Hope you used it.

Missariss----------whehee, that is a long wait. Today is the 11th What's happening now? The world stops between T-day and Christmas. Terrible time to have any medical problems. Sorry.

Adding: Between Thanksgiving and Jan 4-5th expect delays on all scheduling.

Sas - What I posted to Tessie was based on my own experience and the steps I've had to go through to access my own medical info. So while your experience has been different it does not mean I was wrong.

  • sas-schatzi
    sas-schatzi Member Posts: 15,894

Junie sorry, Yes you are right your experience is yours. I shouldn't have said it was wrong. I was quoting what the law is. The law states that the facility/ doc owns the medical record, but the information in the medical record belongs to the patient. Ergo, the patient can't be denied access to the Info in the medical record. But each specialty has to have a signature on their particular piece before it can be released.

All Joint Commission on Hospital Accreditation facilities have required employee teaching to go through for yearly requirements. It's a couple inches thick the last time I did it. Then state requirements cover some of the same material.

When and if a person is denied access to a medical record once it is signed by the doc i.e radiologist. pathologist, they are breaching the law. But to access those records, you have to know where and how.

  • sas-schatzi
    sas-schatzi Member Posts: 15,894

I went through this problem with Quest labs. They had a policy that values would not be posted until released by the docs, then until x amount of time i.e. 1 week or so. I kept pushing them with what the law stated. I don't remember all the details. Then they started posting when available(i.e. after physician lab doc review). It was a battle. They were breaking the law.

  • sas-schatzi
    sas-schatzi Member Posts: 15,894

The next complaint should a facility not comply with a request is to Joint Commission on Hospital Accreditation. That wakes them up real fast. Well, the government to under HIPPA, they get real buzzed about it

Sassafras! Don't you be picking on our Junie! What if she gets too upset to make us her glorious cupcakes when we're all together? Or worse.....what if she does make chocolate cupcakes using Ex-Lax? Oh dear, I should never have advised her to do that to get vengeance on that rat of of a doctor that was so awful to her. LOVERLY and myself , SHEP are always so sweet and kind to JunieB. We LOVE her and are always thinking of NICE things to say and do for her. LOVERLY & SHEP are always, always so sweet and kind to our Junie. I know she would never ever be mean to us. Right DEAR, DEAR JUNIE?

Waving hello to our new friends 👋. I am so sorry for this drama. We all are usually perfect Gentle-Women. 🙄

Now for a crisis of my own. FFH (Fart Face Husband) has been adamant that we will never, ever have another dog again. I miss Marti so, so much. She was my soulmate and there will never be any other to take her place. (sniff)

However....I don't like being alone in the house without my big Shepherd. Before her health problems started, Marti was my Service Dog. I knew I should have gotten a pup years ago to train for the job but I just didn't have the heart. Marti would have been crushed to have me spend time with another dog.

So anywho's..... I have been looking a little to see what dogs were available. I may have a long session of rads in January, so I was going to wait to see what my MO's plans are. FF knows all this and knows very well the traits I am looking for in a "new" dog. I want another GSD but would consider an Aussie or a Rottie. Herding breeds are the best; smart, loyal, and eager to please.

FF announced last week that he had picked out the perfect puppy and made a deposit on her. She will be ready to leave her mamma mid-January. He felt compelled to make this big decision on his own because he was afraid I would somehow take off and bring home "something stupid" that he wouldn't like. Soooo guess what the jack ass is buying? A freakin' BLOODHOUND! Just what I need, a huge dog that can never be off lead 'cuz it will haul arse if it catches a scent it likes. I am so beyond pissed. Forgive me if I offend anyone, but as the best gosh darn trainer in 2 counties (not bragging, I was) I hated working with the hounds. What they see or smell takes precedence over anything else. The owner needs to continuously work on the desired behaviors. Training a hound is 24/7. Plus, although intelligent, a Bloodhound takes a very long time to house break - it just isn't that important to them. They need constant grooming to keep their ears clean. Those nasty rolls of skin they have must be cleaned daily because they are highly susceptible to yeast infections. The jowels and teeth need daily cleaning as well.

I am a fall risk, use a walker in the house, have mets from head to thighs and have to avoid ucky stuff because of my Xeloda. WTH?

Here's what the little girls in the litter like look now:

    image

    This what the pup will look like when FF drives the 4 hour trip to pick her up -this is an older sibling from a previous litter;

    image

This a pic from a different breeder showing how big a full grown hound is. A female can be up to 120 lbs!

    Suggestions anyone? Ay yi yi.............

ShepK, forfeit the deposit and get a dog you like! Is it going to be your dog or FF dog? If it is his, let him train his own dog. How about a Corgi?!

Tessie you can feel very confident that your doctor is being thorough. Just gotta say, I like to hear that.

Won't stop snowing here. The area has winter storm warning just ending but still more system snow coming, mwhatever that is.

My first post here.  Just recently diagnosed and had a lumpectomy last Wednesday.  It's 4:30am and I can't sleep, I get my first path report tomorrow (the day after today).  So I happened to jump in on the dog conversation.  I say forget the hound and get the dog you want.  I have a GSD and happen to think they are the best.  Good luck with whatever you decide!

Welcome here. Lryll. Hang your hat awhile. Check in on the just diagnosed thread for info to prepare before treatment starts. I'll bring it back in a bit.

Shep, that's awful. Lryll suggestion of cancelling. Is that possible. Is FF trying to be a bigger analpore than he has been. Could you cancel? I checked on the reservation. They still haven't done room assignments, but she said they would try to get us as close as possible.

Donnie has done the grouting and redid several plugs and lights, fixed the window damaged from Irma, with framing, and stucco, then he painted a third of the house. I was concerned about the stucco as he never done stucco before and it's a several step process. But it looks great.

WE ARE FREEZING here. I can't imagine you folks in snow.

Liryll - welcome. I'm with you, forget the deposit.

Shepkitty, love the initials FFH. No longer DH, huh. A hound would be a huge no for me too, your reasons exactly. I have a Newfoundland, he like to run when given the chance so he is always on lead, I feel for him but he is safer from hunters, coyote herds, traps set in woods, being taken, cars hitting him, even snakes, the big stupid tried to play with a blue racer a few years back, he was on lead and I wa hauling his arse up the hill gasping no no no no. The racer could have beat us to the top. But a Newfie is high maintenance too, I can't do all the brushing now like I could. And I know there are those that can be off lead and manage very well for owners. A vote for no hound is what I say.

My Newfie is prompting me to come do the scheduled cookie treats, it's after dark. And a movie. I use him for house slippers.

Danny Boy when Hubby forgot him in a snow storm a few years back, after the accident, he went in basement to stoke stove and got distracted, I was trying to nap but my gut said get up and I found this poor baby..... and I yelled to the basement HUBBY YOU HAD BETTER BE DEAD!!!!! Of course I had to take time to get the photo so Hubby couldn't deny his wrong.

Snowing again, this time little fine flakes like sleet, all night supposedly. Might get scurvy, don't think we have enough fruit, all else is good.

A friend approached me last night to chat - because of her family history and genetic testing (I don’t know the specifics), she is facing the likelihood of having BC in the next few years. And so now she is weighing the pros and cons of prophylactic mastectomy. Does anyone know of a thread here that would help her? I’ve referred her to BCO as there are articles about the topic here.

    Thanks.

Goodness grief! I am so behind. Busy accomplishing nothing again. Time flies faster than I can move. Anyway...WELCOME to the new ladies here. Oh wait, was that Ms. Jazzy? Must have been the same wind that blew both you and Eeyore in. Nerdy Need to go back and take notes. I am sitting in the airport waiting to board the plane right next to this lady who was snoring quite loudly. Poor lady must be exhausted.

Junie, we need to celebrate your birthday when we get together. Shep will bake the cake. I will bring my Instant Pot and Ms. Sas can make the dumplings.

Yes, Ms. Sas., my Instant Pot did flash burn and I didn't even have to pay extra for the feature.

Poor Danny Boy. He looks so pitiful in the first photo.

Oh Shep, that dog is gonna be taller than you.

    Boarding soon.
