Storms rolled through this morning here, power flickered but stayed on.  'Course I had to re-set the alarm clocks and microwave clock.  Hubby is griping that the rain just makes the grass grow (grumble grumble).

Enough rain here to last us awhile--rained all night and all morning.  By weekend, hope to get the garden planted.  Will be looking for tomato and pepper plants tomorrow.  Soil here is sandy with sandstone base so doesn't take long to drain away.  Did some more painting this afternoon--who knows,I may actually get it all done this spring.  Badger, my DH says the same about the lawn, but it  is so nice and green, and everything looks fresh and clean.  :Lilacs are done blooming and the rhododendrons are just beginning to flower.  I love spring. Best wishes to all.

Lilacs peaked last week here.  On the way downhill, but still that wonderful smell.  A few days ago, I was walking and here next to the sidewalk was this enormous old lilac tree with blossoms galore.  You've heard the expression stop and smell the roses.  Well, it applies to lilacs too.  I buried my face in flowers ~ heavenly!

Our house is surrounded by black walnut trees so we're limited in what we can plant.  Definitely no tomatoes, tried growing those the first year we lived here, poor things didn't last a day.

But we have lots of natives and perennials that resist black walnuts and grow in clay soil.  Starting in my minds eye at the north side of the house and going around, we have: hostas, ferns, lilies of the valley, peonies, sweet pea, roses, tiger lilies, asian lilies, balloon flowers, poppies, primroses, iris, coneflowers, black-eyed susans, scarlet bee balm, and a delicate light pink mallow.

As you can probably tell, I love Spring too.  Smile

How are all you delightful Wisconsin gals today?  Finally, the sun is shining after a week of cloudy weather.  Spent some time weeding my strawberry bed and chopping  Virginia Creeper vines out of the lilac bush.  (Taking a day or so off from painting)  Really want to get my garden going.                Hope everyone who is still dealing with treatments is doing okay and no one having SEs that are troublesome.  Loving good wishes to all.

"Celebrated" the first anniversary of my axillary node dissection (it was Friday the 13th in 2011!) on the couch with my puffy red arm elevated. Cellulitis is now complicating the lymphedema. Walked around the yard a few times because the weather is so nice but had to avoid the sun due to the antibiotic I'm on...

Didn't even try out the Mother's Day present I bought myself: a Black & Decker rechargeable grass trimmer. Decided recently that the manual shears I've used for years are too hard on my swollen hand. That purchase was symbolic since the appliance was made in China which is where our son is right now.

Vlnrph, I hope your ARM heals quickly. I am glad you at least got outside today. Is your son gone long? Happy mothers to all the moms on the board. Much love.

hi Mary, sorry to hear about cellulitis on top of the LE.  I have a permanent waiver from lawn mowing (hubby and I used to take turns but I bowed out after BMX with SNB) and DH hates to mow so we may need a goat soon.  'Bye ladies!  ((hugs)) to all

Hey there my fellow Wisconsinites ... So nice to know there are others locally going through all this 'fun'! Looks like another beautiful day here in the land of Cheese ... I plan to get my garden started today (my favorite trip to the store!). I'm also anxiously awaiting 8:00 ... apparently I missed a call Friday from my surgeons ... I hope to have an official date for my BMX and reconstruction. Yahhooo! Make it a good day ladies! Nice to meet you all!

    Hey Girls,

Hope everyone is having a great day.  Sure would like to meet some 5+ gals from Wisconsin.  If you know of any please incourage them to join us here at BC.org

Having NO support groups in the area is very difficult.

    Embrace the day.

Thanx for your expressions of concern! Cindi, this website can be almost like a support group...

3sunz: your diagnosis was the 1 year anniversary of my 1st surgery & we're both in Waukesha (although I went to Froedtert after the initial work-up since I wanted the immediate reconstruction/DIEP procedure).

Badger, we do hire a neighbor kid for the hardest parts of lawn care, I just like to putter around the edges a little. The goat idea made me smile.

Our son is attending grad school in Ohio but has been in Dalian all spring, with a side trip to Beijing recently.

vlnrph - Wow - small world!!! While I went through the diagnostic process in Waukesha, I'm also using Froedert for treatment! I'm seeing Dr. Walker (Onc Surgeon) and Dr. Hijjawi (Recon Surgeon). They were finally able to line up the stars and get a date of June 11th. I'm counting down the days!

Everyone else, so great to meet everyone! We were certainly blessed with a beautiful day!

    Cheers!

Excellent choice 3sunz: say hi to Dr H from "the violinist" (we always talked about music). He & my surgeon, Amanda Kong, did a presentation for the ABCD group that I attended recently. It took a few weeks to coordinate schedules last year also. Be sure to check out the surgery boards here for helpful hints. Do you have good support people in town?

Wish I could have followed Moonflower's example and spent more time outdoors today but can't risk sun exposure with the antibiotic I'm taking Undecided

Saw from her profile that gramamuses is a retired nurse so probably doesn't need a lymphedema warning. Don't know what procedures she had either - just that any node removal or radiation puts one at risk. My arm didn't swell up until I had started recovery from chemo and had enough energy to attempt some yard work. Any painting that needs to be done around our house will be performed by a contractor...

vlnrph - I'm extremely blessed with an amazing group of friends, colleagues and my parents for post-surgery support. The hardest thing for me will be resting and letting everyone take over. The only bummer is our eldest son graduates HS on June 9 with his graduation party the following Saturday, June 16. Looks like I'll be making a short appearance for the party (a small price to pay as far as I'm concerned).

So great to meet everyone! Perhaps a little get together over coffee some day :-)

    cheers!

3sunz - you will just be out of the hospital on the 16th so plan to take it easy for sure. Glad there will be lots of help around. You must be pretty young if your oldest is just finishing high school!

The Madison area people from this thread got together last summer which means it might be the southeastern folks turn this year. There is a group called Encore started by the YWCA that meets locally, mostly older ladies/grandmother age. I've found it nice getting to know some that had their diagnosis & treatment long ago and are still going strong!

Wasn't this a beautiful day?  Meant to plant my garden but got sidetracked with all sorts of odds and ends, plus planted some flowers and flower seeds (sort of like eat dessert first) and will do the veggies tomorrow.  @vlnrph, I just had a LMX woith node biopsy and have had no problems at all with LE, and I'm so sorry you are having to deal with that complication, plus cellulitis as well.  BTW, my SIL is a pharmacist in Waukesha, my DD is a nurse, and they have 3 children, 10, 13, 17.  We dopmn't get there very often lately as  DH has had numerous health problems but I do enjoy the city.  I did my pediatric training in Milwaukee many years ago.  @my3sunz, best wishes to you with your upcoming surg. You will find a wealth of information on this site--and even as a nurse--still can't believe how much I did not know and have learned so much, especially about the meds. Wasn't my specialty.  To all others, glad you're chiming in and hope all are doing well.  I put the paintbrushes away for now, til the yard work gets done.  Going to have a good soaking bubble bath now afteplaying in the dirt all day.  Sweet dreams , everyone.

my3sunz, you have the same doctors I had for my surgery in Dec 2010.  I absolutely adore Dr H. Know that you are in very good hands and are lucky to have that team.

good morning ladies, yesterday was a great day.  Had my six-month follow-up appt with onc and all is well, and Donald Driver made it into the finals on DWTS.  Today looks to be another fine day too!

Badger, glad it went well for you. And yesterday was beautiful. Have my onc appt today and tx #5/6tomorrow. Not looking forward to that. Chemo slug weekend. Have to try to make it to a baptism on Sunday though. Oh well, will get through this too.

Moonflower: I can relate to that "chemo slug" feeling. Last year, I told everyone it was like being road kill...

Gramamuses - happy to know that you can get so much done on top of taking care of hubby (mine pretty much fends for himself!) You have inspired me to at least visit the garden center. Plants/seeds used to be a line item on our budget but recently I can only keep up with what is already growing.

Greetings all.  Badger, great that all was well for you.  Moonflwr, thinking of you today--I had no chemo, so can only imagine but hope your chemo slug is minimal.  (Hugs)  3sunz, thinking of you as well as you await the BMX on 6/11--having reconstruction at the same time?  Hugs to you too.  As for me. I had only (ONLY???) a LMX last June, no reconstruction, no chemo, no tamox--recent mammo and US were fine and the radiologist "Well, you made the right decision."  Time will tell. I may have a prophy RMX this fall.  Know that those can turn up a few surprises.           So--everyone get their gardens and planting done or in progress? Finished my veg. garden this morning and could use a nice gentle soaking rain or I will have to water as it is dry here again, even after all the rain we had awhile back. DHmows the lawn etc--his multiple health problems aHe's atrooper re under control--has to pace himself.  So, he's asking for lunch--time to turn off the laptop--and get busy.  Love to all.

hi ladies, just waiting for the sun to set and the temp to drop so I can get a walk after supper.

I prefer yesterday's 70's to today's 80's and the 90's that are to come.  Tongue out

Moonflwr912, sending good vibes to get through the nadir OK.  This too shall pass.

gramamuses, I gave up on annuals in 2010, the spring-summer of surgery & chemo.

Too much work, all that weeding and watering.  So what's growing are hardy perennials.

The poppies are at their glorious peak, and the iris are coming on strong. ((hugs)) to all

It sounds like quite a few of you might be older than me. I had just turned 40 when I was diagnosed less than a year ago. My two kids are just starting high school.

Cindi: There is a thread that I started for women who were diagnosed with masses 6 cm+. You might enjoy reading through that one. I think I might be the only one in WI on there though. http://community.breastcancer.org/forum/47/topic/778961?page=1

I tentatively have a reconstruction surgery date set for DIEP flap with Dr. Kinney in Brookfield for August 17th. I am working on a master's program so it will be right after summer classes end and three weeks before fall classes begin. That could be tough but I want to move on past this.

hi ladies and good morning to all.  Rain moved SW WI through overnight, yay, we sure needed it.  Should be with you in SE WI now.  Peonies are in bloom here - gorgeous!

J-Bug, I was 50 when dx and am 52 now.  Good luck with your masters program and DIEP.

I'm headed out for a walk soon.  Wishing you all a safe long weekend.

Hi fellow cheeseheads! Looks like the sun is going to make an appearance afterall today (Saturday) after those wicked storms last night. Our youngest son came flying in our bedroom at 4am hands over his little head, ducking between booms as if they were bombs. Poor little guy! Anyway, perhaps a little time separating some overgrown perenials is in order - anyone need some lovely purple irises??

JBug - best of luck with your DIEP!  I've heard it's amazing!!

Badger - hope you enjoyed your walk - was perfect temperature for a long walk this morning!

Gramamuses - Yes, I'm having reconstructive & BMX at the same time - I recently quit smoking so I'm hoping for a faster recovery.

    Enjoy your weekend ladies!

Hi all! I have only one more tx of TCH. Two weeks before I have to go through it again then just Herceptin. I am scared of trying to get strong enough to go back to work. Oh well, I will get through it too. The storm has passed so I hope to see the sun today yet. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
