Started out for my walk this morning then turned around when the tail end of the storm whipped back around and gave us one heck of a gully-washer.  BIG thunder boomers.  After it passed, I went for a lovely long walk and it was so nice & cool & fresh.  Then the clouds rolled away and it got HOT fast.  It's overcast now which is good as I had some weeding and pruning to do.  I don't remember planting a grapevine but there's a big one by our mailbox that needed to be cut way back.  And it's a never-ending battle against the creeping charlie.

Moonflwr, glad you're back to OK.  That's how I thought of it when I passed the low point of the chemo cycle, started feeling not-crappy and then actually feeling human again.  Good luck with the last TCH.  My workplace was incredibly supportive during tx.  I had to make some accommodations and still have some lingering chemo brain but some of that could be attributed to being a middle-aged lady going through menopause.  How often will you have the Herceptin?

My3sunz, congrats on quitting smoking!  I quit years ago and it's hard at first but gets easier.

    Hi,

I'm from western wisconsin.  Chippewa Valley region. We have a support group here called YANAS (You Are Not Alone Sister).  It's been very helpful to me.  It is sponsosred by the Marshfield Clinic.

I had some scar revision surgery last Monday (bilateral mastectomy scars). My arms started aching yesterday and today.  I'm not sure that the surgery was worth it.  (I guess I had higher expectations than the PS--I suppose that's nothing new.)

Hope you all have a good day!

Mishelly, I spent 15 years in central Wisconsin & our son was born at the hospital in Marshfield (he was 2 months premature) so I'm happy to hear that there is a support group available.

I'm worried about your arms aching since that can be a sign of lymphedema. Did they take baseline measurements in order to determine if any swelling develops?

3sunz - I might take you up on the iris offer! The rain was much needed and I did get some weeding done today.

JBug: although I had Dr H for my DIEP, I met Dr K when a family member had a free flap done on the lower leg and he seemed very capable/personable. Hopefully, you'll have a quick recovery.

    Hi Ladies,

What a beautiful day, other than it is going to get a little warm.  We have no A/C so Im going out to make the bed in the camper (there is a/c in there) have a feeling that is where I will sleep tonight.

Three graduation parties yesterday, 3 today and one tomorrow.  Have a funeral on Tuesday and then back to work Wednesday and Thursday.  Thursday is our last day of school and I am so ready for summer vacation.  Was kind of ripped last year because of treatment.  But here and doing well...so cant complain.

Lets get the word out for other Wisconsin women to join us.  I sometimes visit the Ill. board also.  And ALWAYS frequent the 5+ years because I need constant reminders that I WILL/CAN beat this.

Have to get the motorcycle washed, so need to get going

    Later,

    Cindi

hi all and welcome Mishelly.  Gorgeous cool morning gave way to sunny, hot & humid with bright blue skies so at various points during the day, all of us got some of our favorite weather today.

Walked for an hour this morning then did an hour of yoga.  Called my Mom and we had a nice chat.  She's a 32-year BC survivor doing well at age 82 so that gives me lots of hope.

By chance, is anyone doing Relay for Life in Stoughton next month?

    Stay cool ladies!  Cool

    Badger,

I would love to meet your mother.....................I already think she is awesome, sending hugs her way.  If you dont mind me asking, what was your mother's dx......just curious

WOW, it is hot out.  we just got back from graduation parties and the ride on the motorcycle was not nice because of the heat.  I have a hard time dealing with the sun and I was always the one to spend the day on a tractor in the field (with sunblock).  I am sure it is from all the yuck I have put in my body this past year.

I wouldnt even think of going for a walk today.  we have 96!  I was up at 4am helping my hubby milk cows and put grain in.  We are headed back to the barn for evening chores and not looking forward to the heat that radiates off the cows.  Im counting that as my exercise today :(

I do not do the relay for life.  Our area holds Walk with GRACE.  I have been very active in that however.  Maybe you could post some details for the Stoughton thing and I will check into gathering up the girls and coming to it.

In the meantime, try to keep cool

    Breast Friends,

    Cindi

hi Cindi, IDK mom's staging and she didn't keep the paperwork for me to check.  Her doc's either retired or deceased so no records from 1980.  She had a radical Halstead mx on one side, no rads or chemo, and no tamox or AI, they didn't have those yet.  She got a silicone implant, which leaked and caused some autoimmine issues.  They don't make that kind any more.  She got that swapped it out for a saline implant and was living her life when she found a lump in the other breast.  Ended up BC so she had a uni-mx and had the implant removed at the same time.  Took tamox for five years and no tx since that.  She's the one who told me to skip recon.  I did and haven't regretted that decision.  OK gotta go now, love and ((hugs)) to all.

For one day, this week I tried out a new name here (Mishelly)...some friends at church have given me that nicknamed -- But at this website I used to be known as Faithroad, and I guess I've decided to stick with that for now.  But you can call me whatever you like...just don't call me late for dinner!

I may try to go to the Minnesota Zoo if the weather is not too hot or too rainy. It's only a couple hours away.

Badger, I remember you from last year, when I came to this site a lot.  Nice to see that you are doing well. Greetings.

vlnrph, it's very nice to meet you.

I guess since I'm off work after some scar revision surgery, I came here to browse for a little bit.

Hope you all have a wonderful Memorial Day.

hi Faithroad, good to see you, too.  How are your achy arms today?  If not better I would echo what vinrph said and suggest LE as a possible issue.  There are some world-class experts here at BCO in the LE forum and I would steer you that way for more info.

Got out and walked for an hour early this morning.  Gorgeous sunrise!  Why is it, when you have to get up, you don't want to, but when you could sleep in, you're up with the dawn?

Peonies are fading fast but here come the sweet peas.  And the roses!  Cool

Hi everyone - Saturday was great after the rain, Sunday a wonderful breeze off Lake Michigan.  Today, um, uck.

I hope everyone is doing well - our peonies are just starting, the peas have not gotten past 1 foot, but I got the rest of the garden in this weekend.  Now off to figure out irrigation.

Thanks for the info about LE...I sure hope its not that.  I've started doing some LE exercises just in case...I can't tell if there is swelling or not.

Badger you must get lots of walking in.  Good for you!  I like walking too, but I need to do a little more.

I love peones, though sadly there are none in my yard.

    Have a good week all!

hi ladies, just a quick post as I must go get ready for work.  Enjoy this stretch of gorgeous weather we will have this week!  Faith, yes I do walk quite a bit.  Started a few weeks after BMX, when I got the OK from my doc.  I believe it helped me recover and also get through chemo.  Walking and yoga are my primary forms of exercise.  I like to say that I am built for comfort not for speed, so I don't run, I walk LOL.

KerryA - welcome to the Cheesehead club! While none of us really wanted to join this club, it sure is nice to know there are others out there going through the wild ride together! I've got a bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction scheduled for June 11th ... will keep you all posted on how it goes. In the meantime, enjoy this great early summer weather we're having :-)

Kerry and my3sunz, I had a BMX on December before my chemo. It is bad, but you can get through it. I thought the hardest thing was not to use your arms, because my knees are so bad, I always used my arms to help me get out of chairs etc. Take the pain pills, don't try to be a martyr. After two weeks it gets better fast. Good luck ladies. Youmay want to see if there is a June surgery thread, lots of month by month support. I met a lot of wonderful people that way. Much love.

Kerry & my3sunz, good luck and best wishes to you.  I had BMX but no recon.  My experience wasn't too bad thanks to BCO and the wonderful ladies here.  I did NOTHING the first week after surgery and very little the second week.  There's a great thread called "Diary of a Bilateral Mastectomy" saved in my favorites that I'll bump up for you.  ((hugs))

Hi all.  I haven't posted lately --been busy.  Finished another bedroom, painted some woodwork and doors here and there, tomorrow will stain the outdoor furniture, and still haven't figured out what to do with the kitchen.  YES--nice to have the recall election behind us and hope our elected reps will work together--but being a big election year that may not happen.   But we can hope, and let them know we expect it.  My laptop was out of commission for  a couple of weeks so I have had alot of catching up to do here .  It's late so just saying best wishes to those with surg. coming along soon--I had an electric recliner which was really wonderful but only had a LMX so could use my right arm.  I really breezed through the MX (at age 76).  Pain meds if needed, and some kind of laxative really helps.  I'm thinking you are probably checking out the appropriate forums with any questions you might have.       Garden is doing well, except the squirrels have been eating my tomato plants--never had that happen before.  They nip them off at ground level and carry them off!  A couple of weeks ago I was astounded to see ripe strawberries  so that has been a daily task and they are still coming.  Jam is made and am freezing  the rest--about 3-4 qts a day, plus shortcake and just nibbling--what bounty this year.  Nice.  Bedtime  soon, .sweet dreams all.

Hi ladies! Yes, everything is a go for tomorrow ... received calls from the Wonder Team at Froedert on Friday. They moved everything up by an hour ... so now I'm scheduled to arrive at 5:15 am, epidural in place, sentinel node mapping and surgery beginning at 9:15. I'm scared #$#less right now.

Also, my 1st husband & father of our 2 eldest sons has ALS (Lou Gehrigs disease). He had a feeding tube put in on June 4, was home recovering, attended our son's high school graduation yesterday and then took a turn last night. He was re-admitted to Froedert last night ... so it looks like him & I might be spending some time under the same roof again. I'm extremely worried about him since he has his dream trip to Italy scheduled for June 18 with our 15 year old son. The trip was a gift from Steve Gleason (ex New Orleans Patriot & fellow  ALS patient). I pray he recovers and is strong enough to see his dream to reality.

I will recover, but what he has is progressive ... he has to make this trip.

Ok ... no more venting ... I will see you girls on the other side! Thank you for the kind, supportive words!!

3sunz: best wishes for "Fun at Froedtert" this week!

I saw 3 of my doctors as well as other Medical College staff at the state Survivorship Forum held at Marquette June 6th. It was the 3rd annual meeting of this multi-disciplinary group which includes providers & patients. They met in Marshfield last year and started in Madison in 2010. A number of organizations such as Gilda's Club and ABCD had information tables.

For you newbies in SE Wisconsin, be sure to contact the American Cancer Society for literature and the gasoline card from Kohl's. It was $50 that sure helped with all the driving I did. You can call the local office in Pewaukee or phone the regional center in Minnesota. They should also have dates on their website for upcoming Look Good, Feel Better programs designed to provide support to those of us who get to have chemotherapy. I was able to use quite a few of the beauty products that were donated from various manufacturers.

Hello everyone! I'm new here, recently diagnosed, and from Cambridge, WI. My original diagnosis was invasive ductal, left side, after I found a lump. After a breast MRI, they discoverd lobular carcinoma on right side. I thought I was so cloe to a plan (for the left side), but now everything's up in the air. This coming week, I see my oncologist to get me started on Arimidex, have a bunch more lab work and see my PCP on Wed., and consult with plastic surgeons on Thurs. Also need to set up an appt. for pelvic ultrasound, and am awaiting a call for an appt. for genetic testing.

    Crazy!!

It is great to find this site to talk to others going through the same thing, and a plus that there's a thread with ladies from WI...we rock!!

    Blessings to you all!

hi charliegirl, welcome to a great club that no one wanted to join.  You're at one of the hardest parts of this crazy journey.  Everything's so new, so scary, and so overwhelming at the beginning.  (Scary never goes completely away.)

If you can, bring a friend to app'ts with you.  Another set of ears really helps.  A hand-held tape recorder is good if you can't find or don't want anyone to go with you.

I live in rural southwest WI and work in Madison.  Wishing you all the best and good luck next week!
