Hi Gigil,
Sad about your dad's condition.
Glad your son inherited your dad's musical talent.
A mani and pedi with gold flecks WAHOO! I can't wait for you to have a wonderful stressless day. You so much deserve it. I hate that you have so many painful( physical and emotional issues on your plate.
Hugs,
Kate

Josie,
I am so glad that you did vent. OMG after such a crappy day you needed to. I am so sorry you had a rotten day. So glad it is only a sebaceous cyst, but you needed it like a hole in the head. God doesn't need to test you anymore. I so pray that things go better for you.
Hugs, Kate

Josie darling,
So very glad you enjoyed belgian chocolate ice cream, and dh helped with cooking. Cindy we need a magic handbag or magic something for Josie so we can all be in her handbag pockets( a gigantic handbag) and fight off all of her upsetting issues away. ( I can't sew or I would create it for her)
I am thinking of you Josie and praying for better days ahead. My God you so much deserve to be happy.
Hugs,
Kate

Thanks Kate your so sweet!! It was better after the ice cream and the movie which I'm just finishing now.It got a little to intense for Claire.Have you ever heard of the movie Safe Haven? It just came out today and I read the book a few months ago.Excellent book.

OH BTW Claire accidentally punched me in the bad boob tonight on the way home. She was trying to steal my chocolate and I was trying to pull it away .Need I say more.

I graduated high school with Josh Duhamel's dad. He is a home boy of mine. We were both born and raised in North Dakota. His dad was every bit as good looking as he is in high school. I loved Safe Haven. I thought the movie was very good. He is just a good guy - didn't let fame go to his head. I still keep in touch with his dad. The high school class I graduated from stayed close. I guess that is because we all grew up in northern North Dakota and we only had each other during those long, cold winters.

Josie, Ouch!! Not fun being punched in a tender boob. I'll bet that only added to your day.
0 -
Gigil that is so cool.Yes it was a great movie but like always when you read the book it's hard to compare.Yes that made my day .Yes I admit I almost wanted to hit her back but Im a good mom and wouldnt.I know it was an accident and of course I did yell a little who wouldn't.She's like her mom gets her feelings hurt easily and she's the one who ended up crying.
BTW good picture!!0 -
Nicholas Sparks is the author right? I am always afraid to finish his books. So many of them have sad endings. I didn't read this book but the movie had a happier ending than I was anticipating. Good chemistry between the actors. I think it is almost a reflex when you are suddenly injured in a vulnerable area to yell. My ribs are still tender and when my husband looks like he is going to give me an extra tight hug, I have to remind him quickly not to squeeze too hard!!
Thanks, I decided to use a lighter pic. The other one was kind of dark and gloomy looking.

Hi Josie,
So glad ice cream and a movie brought you comfort. I have heard of safe haven, but I forgot what the story line is or who is starring in it. I will look for it.
Hugs,
Kate

Nothing left to do but vent. I am having a rough night, After 2 mg of Ativan I can't sleep.I get up every half hour. I am in pain from my swollen leg and swollen stomach, Those are cancer synptoms and not chemo symptoms. It is because of my stomach lymph node involvement. Chemo makes these symptoms worse. I asked my doctor why I am not having immediate relief from chemo, and he said it takes a while for chemo to work. My right leg is so swollen you can see it through jeans. I can't wear a skirt because the swelling looks too ugly. I will have to buy long skirts. Sorry to be weak tonight. Pain is difficult when you can't sleep. I am sure I will get some relief tomorrow, and go to my donut shop. At a certain point in the day the pain breaks and I run out to have several hours of fun without pain. Thank you for letting me vent. Riley and Roxie were sleeping so I needed my bc sisters to vent to, I am still thinking positive , and thinking about my granddaughters college graduation in 2 years. Doc said I will be there, and I will.
hugs,
Kate

Hi kate, it's not weak to describe your pain. You don't dwell on it, and you live your life. And it's so hard when you can't sleep and are tired. I am hoping as your chemo treatment advances you'll feel better and get more relief. Thinking of you.
GilGil, your photo is beautiful, you North Dakotans are a great looking bunch! So neat you
'Ve stayed in tuch with your high school friends. I grew up in NYC, and still keep in touch with some friends from kindergarten and a couple from high school too. I love them.0 -
Ohhhh, Kate. I know the advice for this sort of thing is to keep your leg higher than your heart, but even a Rockette would find that impossible. Does your onc think it would be safe for a lymphodema therapist to move some of that fluid around?
i'm in on the mani-pedi, everyone. Probably tomorrow. No blue or green for me, unfortunately, because of my very stuffy business. Guess some racy, snazzy undies will have to substitute.

Brrookside, I'm with you, I need subtle colors on my nails, but love fancy undies.

Kate, I'm so sorry that your having swelling issues again.Did you get better with the GI issues?
BTW there's nothing week about you.Your very strong and a lot braver than I could ever be.
I have a theory about my sebaceous cyst.I'm asking everyone to think about this...When we are laying there getting Rads and these techs are positioning us have anyone been touched on the Breast by a tech trying to find your tattoo? I have. The sebaceous cyst was along my incision. Not near my tattoo. When we did the boosts that machine was all close with the cone on it that I was brushed by it or someone's hand several times. How often do they wash their hands?I am just as bad I would head straight to the dressing room w/o washing my hands first and then slathered cream all over it .Kind of dumb huh?
Just the act of pulling that curtain shut could accumulate thousands of germs on your hands"yuck"'
WE can all admit to having at least 1 area of our Rads breast slightly cracked or open even around the nipple. That provides ample opportunity for the germs to enter and cause infection.I just wish I was more careful.BTW it's doing much better today you can hardly tell he did anything.0 -
Hi Suzannah,
Thank you for letting me vent, and thanks for your support. I haven't had much sleep, but my stomach feels a little better, and I feel better emotionally
xoxo,
Kate

Hi Brookside,
You are right I need to elevate my leg more. My doctor thinks that Chemo will eventually help to resolve the swelling in my leg. I have an appointment Fri. I will ask him about a lymphodema therapist.
Nothing could be more girlie than racy snazzy undies. I love it and I hope you feel sexy sexy and more sexy.
Hugs,
Kate

Josie we all seem to have those bad days. I am hoping today will bemuch better for you. I had my lump checked and the MRI showed it to be scar tissue. Whew! I know how unsettlinig it is to have something newdevelop. I am very glad it is a cyst. An easy fix. Sorry about the fiasco with the couch. You deserve a better day!
Joan, my knee is in limbo. I had my neck injection yesterday and found out this doctor is not an otrhopedist instead he is a pain specialist. Two nurses there advised me to get an orthopedic surgeon. They think just shooting a steroid in my knee with no diagnosis is wrong. So I hav e a referral request into my PCP. She also got me a referral to a gastroenterologist. I am having my colonoscpy May 16.
Have a great day everyone. HUGS!

Hi Kate, I'm so sorry you were awake all night. It's so hard to "catch up" after that. Have you talked to you Dr about a sleeping pill? Mine gave me ambien during my rads, and 1/2 of one of those knocked me out for 4 hours. I understand they're adicting but with your aversion to meds, I don't think that will be a problem.
Gigil, I love the new picture. Beautiful. Now I see the t-shirt!
Racy, frilly undies indeed....they'll look smashing paired with this huge cement compression bra.

OMG Sorry I did something wrong and Shutterfly added so much stuff. Just wanted to show you a photo of my gorgeous granddaughter Maddie. She is graduating Illinois state in 2 years and want's to be a physician's assistant. After she gets her bachelor's she will have to go to school for two more years to become a physician's assistant. Who knows maybe she will change her mind and continue on to become a doctor. My ex son-in-laws sister is a doctor and his father was a doctor too. She surely didn't get her love of science classes from me. Science was my worst subject. I loved math instead

Hi Cindy,
My oh my what a sweetheart you are. Thank you so much about the compliments for Maddie. Besides being gorgeous on the outside she is beautiful on the inside.
I finally did catch a few zzz's and I feel so much better. Just looking at the photo of Maddie makes me feel good.
I am fairly new to shutterfly and didn't even know that you can make cute books. I will research it.
Thank you so much for your prayers.
I pray that you have a healthy, happy day.
Love,
Kate

Gigi you made me tear up this morning talking about your Dad. How wonderful for him that he has you, and that you are able to set him at ease.
Then, Cindy, you made me laugh! Good for you, trying the vegan thing. I could never get all the way there...but I have reduced my dairy a lot. I tried not to imagine you with your hairy legs and pink skin but we've all been there and it was hard not to!
I have been DYI on the peds for awhile, but I noticed there was a $10 pedi place nearby. Of course they probably haven't sterilized their equipment since 1974, but I think I'll go ahead and live dangerously! Dark green or purple for me.
Bunkie, a french pedi? That's not crazy enough for this week. Can we negotiate at least a shocking pink for you?
Gigi do you have Yogurtland? It's my place when I have sugar shakes...they always have a sugar free alternative available and it's sweet and yummy...
Josie, sorry you are having one of those days! I am so relieved that it was only a cyst, and I am wondering where your couch is!
Runfree, It's amazing what clothes can do...I'm glad you put that dress on and I bet you rocked it!
Sorry if I'm not keeping up too well...

Kate your granddaughter is a beauty. From the pictures I have seen, you have a family of beauties. They get it from their mom and grandmother. My granddaughter graduates the middle of this month with a degree in fashion design. I keep telling her she needs to design her grandmother a wardrobe. Oh to be able to draw a design, put it to a pattern and sew it beautifully. She can do all of it. She has wanted to do this her entire life. When she was a little girl, I used to tell her if she was going to do that, she needed to design great clothing for short, chubby ladies. She is a short lady like I am, but she is a waif. I used to be that small once upon a time. Now I am working on getting back into close poximity of that, give or take 30 lbs. Ha! Ha!
I am glad you got some sleep after all. There is nothing more miserable than being up at night with pain and discomfort. Those early morning sleeps are sometimes the best.
SAB I just found out about a build your own yogurt place in the city. I'll bet they have some sugar free varieties. I wish I could find frozen yogurt sweetened with a little honey or maple syrup. Maybe I will have to invent some. Not too sweet. I am finally losing my sweet tooth. I find if I stay away from it for awhile, I just don't crave it that much anymore. I can go along for a long time, and then it is my birthday or someone else's and a cake appears, and down the slide I go. I have managed to lose 20 lbs though just keeping my sugar consumption to a minimum and cutting out most red meat. We are trying to go vegetarian three days a week. Other than that, we add seafood, fish or poultry to the menu. My DH and I were just saying this week how nice it would be to hire someone to come in once a week and put up meals for the whole week - just enough and not too much food, so we are limited on portion size. I have no problem with portion size, but if there are second helpings available, he will eat them. I keep trying to convince him that we should cook together so we can both learn to cook and eat right. Left to his own devices it is bacon, steak, eggs, pork roast. Not good!!!
My dad is such a dear man. He has always been the nurterer in our family. My mom was always the butt kicker. She was a spunky little woman who lived every day to the max. She died when she was 80 from complications of a surgery for hiatal hernia. She fully believed she would outlive my father and had money stashed everywhere in order to have some great adventures. She intended to live in my brother's seaside house in Bodrum, Turkey for about a year to start with. She traveled on her own to Turkey several times My brother moved to Turkey to work for GE and he married a Turkish woman. He now has a company that sets up electrical power for third world companies. Mom was a courageous woman and she was the boss. Dad has always had a hearing problem, and I believed him to be clueless about money. Now that he is on his own, his hearing has much improved (he was tuning out) and he is doing a great job taking hold of his finances. I was his banker for a few months, now he tells me what he wants done. I definitely treasure my time with him. We are kindred spirits the two of us.
