SAB - We don't have Costco just Sams. Now you know why I am so excited they are building a Whole Foods. I will check on line. I hear that Barilla is coming out with a new one next year. Hope it is good. Pillsbury just came out with predone pizza crust. That and cookie dough. If you get a chance look up the name of the crackers. I am just starting to consider changing. Not till after I get tested they say but my stomach is a mess so we will see.
The stuff is expensive and I still have not found a good bread. The taste stays with me after I eat it. Weird texture. There is a book out called Wheat Belly that really opened my eyes.

Bunkie, you sound like you are feeling better and I am glad. Gigil glad your hubby is ok. I would never do blood thinners because a side effect is hair loss, so thank God this is a superficial blood clot.

Hello everyone.I can't believe that my Thursday is almost over and back to work tomorrow.Hope everyone is doing ok.
Bunkie how's it going? Are you feeling any better?Your a very brave person.
SAB, I loved your chocolate comment!!Your a woman after my own heart.Chocoholic myself.
I worked out in the yard this afternoon again.Got a lot accomplished and the dog didn't even clothesline me like she did Tues afternoon.I have a nice big red line going across the back of my calf.It hurt really bad She was after our cat and on a tie out line or I should call it a zip line!!
I totally fell on my rear end.I've never had a dog pull me off my feet like that.
I found myself feeling really depressed and sorry for myself tonight.I am not sure why I haven't even tried to find a new job or part time job.I have applied but haven't tried as hard as I could'll d.My friend at work gave me a number to a temp agency but I couldn't bring myself to call her today.I stupidly let my CPR certification expire and even more stupidly let my Certification for my MA expire. You have to get a certain amount of CE's and I never did get those so when it came due in Feb I couldn't renew it.You don't have to be certified to be an MA but I worked so hard to get it studying for that 3 hi our test for like months.I made the highest grade in our MA class. So I could just kick myself.I think I need a drink. But I don't usually drink.0 -
Kate - Thanks I am just a hair better as we say. I went to the Sweetielicous Pie shop today. Love that place my friend owns. She has been on Food Network. She made me a fresh peach pie for me and I got some molasses cookies.
I did not know the side affects of blood thinners is hair loss.

Bunkie, you are making me hungry. I looooove mollases cookies (when chocolate is not available.) Who am I kidding, I love all sweets. Today I bought a bag of monkfruit sugar to try in baking...it has crystals, unlike stevia. Will report back. Anyway, the crackers are "Mary's Gone Crackers" I think. Crunchmaster also makes similar crackers, but I'm not sure they are gluten free. Glad to hear you are a smidge better, and hope it's the start of a trend!
Josie, how hard will it be to get your certifications back? Sorry, what is a CE?
Joan, I felt calmer just reading your description of the lovely scenery.
0 -
Josie so sorry you are feeling depressed. I hope you feel better soon
0 -
Kate CE's are continuing education. And they require a certain amount of hours to get the certification back. Each hour you pay between $5-$10 for like if you read an article and then answer the questions in their magazine you can send in the CE's via their website.
Your so sweet thanks for your concern Kate0 -
Just checking in...computer about to lose power...too lazy to plug in!
Had another great weather day...got to beach with grandkids about 4 PM. They had fun playing...I loved watching them...they are so big...(9, 7).
SAB, it is peaceful....and you made me smile with your chocolate fund!Bunkie, I never thought about what you said about the higher vs. lower doses and weaning off. It makes sense. Love the sounds of the pie shop...
I had m entioned the gluten free...am thinking of doing it as I have sinus congestions 24/7/365 now. Ears always clogged. It's worth a shot...
I made quinoa and brown rice today and my very green daughter loved it.
Kate, I never expected to hear that dx on the arm....hugs and prayers again...hope it is gone gone gone soon!Brookside, will let you know...we are very busy in Sept. but if free, I could make the trip. Back soon on that! Hope others could join...
More tomorrow....stay well everyone.

Bunkie, that's a hopeful sign that you are a hair better! My husband was on 60 mg of pred for a little while and he got weird. Turned out his "asthma" was GERD and our old sloppy house. Now he takes OTC Prilosec every day and we live in a new house, poof, no asthma. But for a while, we thought prednisone might be a way of life and we were pretty nervous. I hope things smooth out soon and you are rewarded for your toughness in tapering down. You deserve a medal!
Kate, the clot is a bit scary but at least it's just a little one. Wow. I wonder why blood thinner affects hair?
SAB, you made me laugh back, and I know you're right about the faculty meeting behavior! Thanks for your support also Brookside and Joan. It doesn't generally look like a rash, but last night and today the bumps and redness came back. They are all around the bra line, so it even crossed my mind that our detergent is bugging it, because we did laundry when we got home and everything was freshly cleaned. I did notice that my bra bothered me more a few days ago, then less, then once washed it was more again. We are using the same brand of detergent, but a different scent because they discontinued the one we had before. Meanwhile I tried calendula and 1% hydrocort but I think I will go back to aloe. I seem to be getting a little discharge too. Yikes. Joan, the nurse I talked to is the only one I've ever dealt with there, and she's generally pretty smart, but it was the end of the day and I don't think she really listened to my voice mail or my story carefully. I will take notes on what's happening and try again soon. I am going away again today until Monday. My mom is staying with the kids and my husband and I are celebrating our 20th. Unfortunately I'm not feeling very romantic.

Gerd? Really? And you can have this and not know it? WOW! Maybe that is my breathing issue. If a cookie can cause this then I am there cause lately I have been eating sweets and I NEVER craved sugar prior to this darn drug and cancer diagnosis. Now, it is almost like I am trying to find "energy" that I am lacking in sweets/starch...very strange. I am gaining weight at the speed of light too. Since January, I have gained over 20 pounds..ugh. I had lost 85 and now I am back to only being a little over 60 pounds down. I was in a size 10 comfortably and some size 8's and now...12's are tight! UGH!
Ok ladies, I am going to ask MO to test me for good/bad estrogens. I may try an alternative like Truebff if I can't tolerate these AI's because I am med sensitive too and this Aromasin is slowly turning me into someone I don't like very much. I feel 90 and I am worried about trigger finger and wrist issues cause they hurt the most and so do my hips and knees and feet. My BC was > 95% ER+ so I thought I had no choice but to tough it out.
TrueBff, sounds to me like you got a raw deal on the insurance issue. I can't believe they can do that to you legally! Have you consulted an attorney?
SAB, glad the interview went well!
Josie, sorry the kids didn't have a fun day as planned.
Sew, you are a great SIL and friend to guide her thorough BC and the crap it brings with it.
Kate, glad your clot is not serious!
Joan, we really have had amazing weather this week for sure here on the East Coast and particularly in the NY/CT region. Wonderful! too bad I am at work
Gigi, aren't there certain foods hubby can't have when he takes coumadin? Like grapefruit or something? Spinach?
Bunkie, I had a friend on prednisone for years due to her GI issues and when she went gluten free, she was able to taper off and she feels so much better! She still has flares, but when she does, she takes a short dose of the steroids and then she goes off right away. Hope you feel better chica xox
Runfree, I am really sensitive to soaps and other things on my skin so your safest bet would be scent free on that while you have the itching issues. I had a bad reaction to the soap they used to wash sheets in the hospital when I had my babies and I had a rash all over my body until we brought sheets from home! hope you find some relief soon!
Brookside, did you say you will be in CT soon?
Ok, gotta get back to work but wanted to catch up before it got out of control around here! LOL
Layta gators xoxo

Yes, April, I'll be in Wilton, CT the weekend of Sept. 21. Is that anywhere near you? A couple of us had mentioned possibly getting together. I think my event (grandchild's first birthday) is Saturday afternoon, but otherwise, it looks like a pretty flexible schedule.
And yes, I'm also one of those with asthma symptoms totally cured by gastric meds.
0 -
Josie, I can't take credit for this. Someone else asked you about it. Joan Runfree, and April thanks for your support. Runfree so very many medications affect hair. That is a reason I did not take hormonal therapy after breast cancer. Thank God that had no affect in me getting bladder cancer. I refuse to take most medications, especially those that thin hair. Did you know that most pain medications thin hair too. I was born with a full head of blonde hair, and I am going to die with a full head of blonde hair too lol. In fact my hairdresser friend Joanna just left here and she flat ironed my hair.
I am off to meet Tracy, and we are going to malibu yeah! I am so looking forward to fun, fun, and more fun!
0 -
Oops sorry SAB I went back and it was you that asked about continuing education credits.Sorry Kate I got mixed up on who said what
0 -
Kate, I had no idea so many things will affect hair! I have always had lots of blond hair too, and I know it would bug me for that to change. I bet you are having a great time tonight!
I called my RO's cancer center again today and nobody answered at all! Don't you think that's weird??? (It wasn't lunchtime--about 9:45.) Left a voice mail, nobody called back! Finally I called again after 45 minutes and somebody answered and was properly apologetic that my voice mail got lost. She got me the nurse, who emailed the doctor, who finally called me back. My RO gave me a real listen and what she said made perfect sense. She believes I have two problems: 1) LE in the breast, which causes the prickling and swelling and tenderness, and 2) contact dermatitis on the skin, which causes the surface itching and, today, pus-weeping areola, extended redness, and welts all over like a pimply teenager. The contact dermatitis is likely from the new detergent. She recommended a kind called Charlie's, but I couldn't find it in the larger health store so I got something called Ecos. The weeping is really gross--I've soaked through two bras and two camisoles, and fabric sticks to my nipple within minutes. (I really wouldn't go into this with most people, but you're an unflappable crowd, I hope!) I might actually go to a drugstore and get some nursing pads. To counteract the LE, she also recommended I wear a sports bra for at least a couple of days. I've been doing that for the past few hours (soaked through that too) and the breast symptoms feel better, but the bra is pretty tight and I don't really like wearing it. I wish I'd asked if she meant me to sleep in it, which would be quite uncomfortable. She said to go back to my LE massage too--good call GiGiL!
Although the doctor didn't speculate about it, I feel sure the two problems are exacerbating each other. The LE feels better with a bra, which puts my skin in contact with the detergent, so then I get itchy and switch to a camisole, which after a while makes the LE feel worse. The LE causes prickling which makes me scratch, which aggravates the dermatitis and ultimately makes me more itchy. But I'm not blaming myself, because I think the detergent is really a key player here. I have never been sensitive to many chemicals, and except for a little spreading I'm not having trouble anywhere else--but the radiated skin is clearly different from the rest. I would have guessed it would be less sensitive, since it seems sort of dry and smooth. I think I'll be able to get on top of the dermatitis once I find the right product, but the RO said what I feared, that the LE will be an ongoing issue and will flare up from time to time. She thinks I can keep it from getting any worse for now with a compression bra and massage. I'm going to check in Monday or Tuesday and see her Friday. Darn it, this BC is no fun.
0 -
Yep, Runfree, I'm unflappable. Glad you've spoken to someone, and yes this makes sense to me too....although this oozing sounds a bit out of control. Be careful if you get nursing pads that you don't stick to them and do more damage to your skin. And I hope you're using the aloe several times a day. If your skin is still dry, and not quite the same, I think it still needs more moisture. Yep, BC is fun all right. But you can do some of the LE massage while putting on this lotion.
0 -
Thanks, Sew, good point about the sticking. As I remember them, nursing pads were not too stickable, but I will have to be careful. I think you're right about the aloe too--I've been using it once or twice a day, but I should increase that. I've found that taking a bath helps as well. When I get home I'll try the emu oil again. It makes sense to me that some kind of oil would help make my skin supple again. Right now it's pretty leathery.
0 -
RunFree, I use Ecos and it is very gentle, I hope it helps you! Sports bra makes sense, as compression does ehlp LE. I hope relief comes quickly for you, it sounds miserable!
Josie, No worries.
Still on the short list for the job. I guess my career path has been so unconventional she wants additional information like manager recommendations from years ago (the last time I was managed) and student evaluations. One of my problems is that my last two supervisors are dead (it wasn't me, I promise) and she wants info by Monday morning (after asking me late Friday afternoon.) This is going to be a challenge.

Gee whiz, SAB, maybe a seance? I'd be a bit concerned about a potential employer seeking out an ancient review. Aren't you supposed to have evolved and butterfly'd and all? Maybe they're afraid you'll be so competent you won't need them? Really!
Kate, some of the other threads (arimidex, I think, and maybe chemo) have lots of suggestions and solutions for combatting the goblins that thin our hair. Have you read through them? Or maybe a dermatologist or naturepath?
RunFree, the weeping sounds absolutely miserable, but nursing pads seem to be an excellent short term (like for the weekend, and only the weekend) solution. Seriously, if this isn't better by Monday, please, please do a show and tell with whichever doc is closest. You can always just walk into the radiation center and get a nurse to look. The nurse, of course, will then corral an RO. No appointment, no waiting.
0 -
Brookside, that's a good point. The radiation center is on our way home from our little weekend getaway. My doctor won't be there Monday (she works at two places), but another would.

RunFree, sounds like a plan!

SAB - Those molasses cookies were really big and good. I ate them in halves and the peach pie was really great. I gave up sugar last year and stopped all soda, fruit drinks etc. Then I went back to sometimes sweets but not daily. I try to be careful because just like caffeine the sugar makes me jittery when I use it. I have never tried monkfruit. I can use pure maple syrup and it does not get me so jittery.
Joan - Quinoa I have never tried. I am going to wait for this gastro Dr to give me the word and then start the no wheat diet. I would do it now but he said the test would be off so I will wait. Mine started with my GB removal. I adjusted to that but it just keeps getting worst so time to check it out.
RunFree - I suspect Gerd also. I sleep propped up and try not to eat spicy, acid foods much but sometimes I can not tell if this is asthma or gerd. I have no doubt that something I am eating or this old house is making me sick. I eat a lot of whole wheat which I am finding out is not really all that great nowdays. 60 mgs of the dreaded steroid can cause some crazy stuff for sure. Thank God he did not get stuck on that dose. While it is helping you breath and fighting inflammation it can break down the body in other ways. I had to fight to get this low but I hope selling this house and coming off slow I can do it. My life has to be more than staying inside and running to the store and Dr appts. Now about your boobs!!! I had that oozing and I now use a Kleenex under each breast every day. Not with aloe or lotion just plain. Everyday after I shower I dry under my boobs and apply aloe. I let that dry too. I had contact dermatitis from the cleaner they used during surgery. When I had both my surgeries done my entire torso broke out in a red itchy rash. It was awful. I went back to my surgeon and he said "Holy mother of God" because he had never seen that before. He had no idea what I should use. I had to wash with cetiphil bar soap for sensitive and use calidryl clear mixed with 1% hydrocortizone for 2 weeks each time on my body. They also gave me a prednisone 6 day pack to take. It finally went away. I have used Tide Free for years to do all my laundry and a bit of Downy Free. I hear Ecos is very good also. I also use Planet Dish soap in my kitchen for my dishes, floors etc. Rads can make you so sensitive to normal stuff.
Kate - Hope you had a good time yesterday. I use Nioxin on my hair to wash it and the scalp treatment. It is the only reason I still have hair after steroids, surgeries, Rads, possible thyroid and getting older. My hair guy in Cali started me on it when I lost those big clumps back in 03 during lung surgery. I switched a few times and noticed more shedding so back to it I went. They have one now for color treated.
Thank you everyone for the support while I am going through this detox. I am still not sure I can do this but I have to try or I will never know what I could have done.

Runfree I am sorry you are going through so much, and I hope you feel better soon. Sab, you are so deserving of the job and I hope you get it. Will you be in LA for Yom Kipper? Brookside there is nothing I can do about my hair thinning, because it is from the chemo. Once chemo is stopped it will grow back again. In the meantime I am getting new extensions Wednesday,My hair still looks ok, but I am a fanatic about hair. You can't be too rich, or too thin, or have too much hair lol. Bunkie, I hope you feel better soon, and sell that old aggravating house ASAP. As for Nioxin if I have problems after chemo is stopped I will try it, but I think once chemo is ended I will be ok.
I had a blast in Malibu last night. While we were going to the Malibu Inn we made friends with some folks who own a real estate agency there. They threw a party last night, and we had so much fun. Of course we went to the Malibu Inn too. Tracy is going to China Wed, and coming back Sept. 8. Then she will only be in town for 4 days, and she goes home to Charlotte South Carolina for 10 days, so I won't see her till the end of September. This period will be rough for me, because she so much helps me to think positive, and to totally keep my mind off of cancer. Also going out to happy hours with someone over 20 years younger than I am makes me feel so young.
When chemo is over I need to plan a trip to Chicago. I also want to take a mini vacation to Vegas. I love blackjack and poker, so going there will be a blast.
Have a nice weekend everyone
xoxo,
Kate

The photo is me at the Malibu Inn last night. They have two bars one inside and one outside. We were at the outside bar, and they have an old car on their property

That is a nice photo Kate. Your hair looks great. Cute old car too.

Cute pic Kate!!

Kate, You're such a cutie, I love the pic. I don't have plans for Yom Kippur quite yet, but I hope to see my db and family somewhere. My whole focus right now is on getting dd caught up and into 12th grade with a clean slate. I am not doing anything for her, but I am setting up to write every day at the kitchen table, and inviting her to sit with me and work. Snacks are provided.
I sent out four notes to former supervisors asking them for permission to use their names, and three have responded positively so far. I have also found a sampling of student evaluations in my files to scan. It looks like I will make the deadline with at least that much material. Yikes.
Spent the day with dd the elder at school today and was so happy to see her road rash healed and her limp all but gone. Went to numerous bike sales and craig's list listings until we found her a good bike, and gave her a helmet. Fed her, hugged her and made our way home. Now we're working on a 21st birthday surprise for her--trying to get an old car fixed up for her.
0 -
So many nice compliments, thank you Bunkie, Josie, and Sab.
Sab sounds like dd is well taken care of. I so hope you get the position you applied for. You are one smart cookie and a cutie too. Whenever you do come to LA I would love to go out to lunch with you
xoxo,
Kate

SAB, sounds like your DD is a lucky girl to have such a good mom like you.She s going to love her Birthday present.
MY oldest DD got a new car this weekend. She's so excited and even though it's a 2007 it's new to her.
She had to put some money down on it and has a car payment and her insurance has doubled to.She better hold onto that job of hers.
Hope everyone had a good weekend .I worked in the back yard with my hubby today. We pulled down vines, cut trees and all that fun stuff.0
