Life on aromasin

Are we talking about the same med. It's so small (to me) where and how do u split it? I once thought I took it and later I found it stuck in my fingernail--(I do have long nails if they're not falling off) Hahaha
0 -
the generic by roxane is probably splitable. the one by greenstone is enteric coated, looks just like the real aromasin and i don't think you could split it. i switched to that one and i think i am having fewer aches and pains.
0 -
I also have the same one. I also have a splitter. it's not even but you take it all in the same day anyway.
0 -
OK Now I have to buy a slitter for aromasin ---hahahaha u'r Drs. never laughed about this--mine would be on the floor. I'm teeling the it's u'r idea not mine.

thanks for letting us know its doable.0

Me to Kayb: I quit Aromasin in Feb, but still like to hear how the rest of you are doing.

Oh Kaybe whenever there is a change in routine it is scary (to me) I wonder what's going on, but all I ask is how's my oxigen level? That's how quick I am.
But that's a good thing that u'r Dr. said u might not need them --so good for u. Lurk all u want u won't be reported as a stalker.

If the exemestane tablet is enteric coated, it may act differently in your system when split. I take the brand name Aromasin and the tablet is shiny making me think it has an enteric coating. When there is an enteric coating on a pill, the purpose is to slow down absorption of the active ingredients - the enteric coating typically won't break down in the stomach but will when it reaches the alkaline environment of the small intestine. I'm guessing that if you split the pill, it's likely absorbed sooner and more quickly than intended.
I've haven't been able to find any information on this online.

I took the generic Aromasin (Exemestane) I could not afford the Aromasin (over $200) the generic was $25 for a 90 day supply. It was not enteric coated.

dogsandjogs: Was the $25 for the 90-day generic covered by the your insurance with $25 being the co-pay? When I was starting on Aromasin I priced the generic at a number of places and the cheapest I could find was $344.30 at Costco for a 90-day supply. I couldn't afford that and was going to tell my onc that I just couldn't take it so would need to stay on Tamoxifen or try one of the other AIs. Then I found out about Pfizer's FirstResource program for uninsured or underinsured patients and was approved for that.

Mary thanks for that info. Ihave insurance, but some are so expensive and generics aren't made yet.

camillegal, does your insurance cover the exemestane? if so you can reqest the greenstone and there should be no difference in cost from the other generic.

I've been reading all your posts, and I started taking my Aromasin three weeks ago after a nightmare 14 months on Arimidex.
So far so good. I was a bit nauseated the first few days after taking it, but that stopped. I started taking it in the evening, just in case there were any nasty se's and I thought I'd cope better at home and in bed if that happened lol. But on the fifth day I was out for dinner and forgot to take it, so took it the next morning instead. That day I had to drag myself around at work, and just thought I was coming down with something. I took it again the next morning, and had to go home early I was so tired. I thought it could be the Aromasin, so didn't take it the following morning, but took it the next night. Well - what a difference. I'm still pretty tired towards the end of the working day and I sleep like a baby at night but not the bone wearying tiredness I had those two days (almost like being on chemo again). And after the insomnia of Arimidex, sleeping all night is such a relief.
My aches and pains are still there - but I'm pretty sure the arthritis caused by Arimidex is not going away lol - but so far it's not getting any worse.
I take magnesium, calcuim, vit d and glucosamine, but recently changed the calcuim from a tablet to a powder in water, and I'm not so achy as I was.
So - hoping things continue on as they have so far - it is soooooo much better than the Arimidex, so I'm pretty pleased, mind you the Arimidex made life hell lol.

Hi Trish---it's all so strange what rotten SE one could have and another doesn't on any of these meds. It's like picking out of a hat how we'll be feeling thst day or week or whstever. I'm finally ready to sleep I hope and hope I sleep all night. I don't understand I can be tired all day and at nite sleep doesn't come easily--Why. aaahhh the mysteries that we keep on having.

Hi Camillegal - I hope you sleep tonight. I know how frustrating it is to not be able to get to sleep - especially when you are so tired.
The other thing that's improved on Aromasin that was bad on Arimidex is my brain. I still forget what I'm doing half the time lol - but when at work my brain is functioning as it should to get my work done. I was seriously starting to consider giving up work as I was having so many problems on Arimidex so that's another plus for me.
I'm hoping you are sound asleep as I type this Camillegal

My Exemestane, under BC/BS, is $75.00 for 60 days.

MaryNY: Yes the $25 is my co-payment. Most of the drugs I take cost that, but----there is a yearly $250 deductible which still make my cost for the year $500-$600.
Good thing you found out about that program - I have never heard of that.
The weird thing is, the onc told me Aromasin did NOT come in generic form. Shouldn't he know that? I only found out after calling the insurance company.

This is probably not the right place to post this, but I'm going to my ob-gyn tomorrow to have him look at some strange growths? bumps? pimples? in my genital area.
Anyone know if cancer spreads to the genital area?
Very sore and and the bumps have grown bigger and there are now 4 (instead of 2)
Any advice?

Started hormone therapy in December 2010. Have been on tamoxifen and was switched to Femera when I had my ovaries removed. Femera was horrible. Headaches, chronic fatigue, bone and joint pain...there were days while in treatment I felt better. I was recently switched to Aromasin. We'll see. I still feel like I'm 47 going on 85. Tired, and achy best describes me. The hot flashes are something too!!!! OMG you would think that based on how much I sweat, I would be a size 2 - not so...did I mention lots of weight gain too!

kas LOL--I'm not laughing at what u'r going thru, but how u said it.--but it's all true. It's like a never ending battle for sanity and health
And who knows when it stops???

Sorry - but I'm laughing over here too!! It's so true!!

Next month I'm to begin on Aromasin and Lupron. I'm no longer able to take Tamoxifen due to blood clots from arteries and blood vessels during surgery last month. Onc is working on getting a bone density done for benchmark purposes, especially since have had arthritis since age 22, now 52.

Hopefully it will be smooth sailing. I know a woman who has been on Arimidex for 12 years. Says she has not had much problem. Women are all different. I am hoping for the best for you! (Sorry you have had arthritis to deal with for so long).

mybee333 Altho everyone is different like you say, it's so encouraging to hear about someone being on Arimedex 12 years with few problems. Thank for the post.

This puzzles me--we all are so different in SE from Aromasin, just like our chemos--how can ststistics possibly don on a group of women Do the use 3 women--There is hardly one person on here that has all the same SE.

Saturday will be 9 weeks on Aromasin......no SEs

Very good news!

4 weeks for me. My left knee and ankles feel a little weak. That's it so far.

Shayne, congrats! It really is the norm NOT to have any, or serious, SEs.
