I head up to camp next week, and easily put in 5 miles a day running around camp and doing therapy with the kids. That said, I have been a slug this week. They closed the pool where my water aerobics is held for a week of maintenance, that has extended now into 2 weeks of maintenance. It has been upper 80's here this week. Can't wait to get up North where the highs are my lows here. I won't be able to check in this summer, but hope to find all moving right through the summer when I return in the August. Enjoy the activities you choose...to me, that is half the battle.

Nice to hear that laurel will be stepping around lot

glennie, it was so muggy here. I finished walk by 10 am yesterday, thank goodness. Did the 23% grade hill that is over 500 steps. It has been my goal to do the hill for 20 years and I mastered it over the last 6 months. Whew I was good for nothing after that hill for the rest of the day! Glennie. get that one mile in no matter what.

I've been battling some kind of head chest thing for three weeks and it caused my back to spasm from the coughing. One week on steriods and it is still here. I'm slowing feeling better and think I can go back to the gym on Monday. Sheesh.

Thx Glennie, I finally have come up for air today and will try gym although I'm not out of the woods yet. Last time I felt so much pain like this was when I was on taxol chemo. Felt like I was 80yrs old. Pain would run right up my femur and stop at knee but then the knees would feel like they were grinding bone on bone, and my muscles just ached. I thought fybromyalgia is like this.Doc said its going around, I'll be so careful to clean my equipment and not breathe on anyone today.

Hugz, goodness! Don't overdo it and relapse! Stick with the chicken soup and a good book (or movie). Get well quick!

Thx Binney. DH just doesn't "get LE" but understands the flu ( probably because he's experienced it before) and so he made me a big pot of chicken soup which I have been living off of🙂This morning I woke up with sweats but truly am on the mend. I took it so easy at the gym. I wouldntwalk any faster than 3.5mph and even started out at 1.5mph. I really didn't want my body to forget what exercise was so I just went to wake up my muscles. I have worked hard at the gym since sept, finally dropped 20 lbs can lift 4-5 pounds on PAL protocol and I really don't want to go backwards. Resting up this week because I'm going away to a resort for a few days. No wifi or computers on site! I can use my iPhone cam and will take pics though. Reading is encouraged. It would be a perfect place for you to write poetry Binney.

Had a gig last night, and even though my LE’s still stage 0, I always take the precaution of wearing compression for guitar playing (repetitive movement and arm draped over guitar), hot weather, elevation changes, etc. I have a wardrobe of different-patterned sleeves & ganutlets, so I wore the leopard-pattern set to match my blouse. I didn’t mention bc during my show, but did field questions about my compression set afterwards out in the lobby. I feel duty-bound to raise awareness of this disease, about which few people know despite how common it is. So far, Kathy Bates has been the only celebrity with bc (or any mx, full or partial) to admit having it, and she’s become an activist to boot. I think of Sheryl Crow, who also had a lx w/SNB & rads--every time I see her on TV I look for evidence of a sleeve or gauntlet. Nothing yet. Wonder about whether Melissa Etheridge developed it--she seems like the type of woman who’d openly be a “warrior” about LE.

Gonna take a walk to take advantage of this cool, dry weather today. Can’t do my LE/cording exercises or dumbbells because my derm doesn’t want me stretching my arms and working my back muscles till the sutures from my punch biopsy (not melanoma, whew) come out on Thurs.

Good article about swimming albeit 5 years old I am sure still applicable. I have started this summer and if nothing else find being in the water peaceful. http://www.lymphedemablog.com/2011/01/20/the-benefit-of-aquatic-exercise-for-lymphedema/

If anyone on this thread is in Dallas or knows anyone who is, I wanted to pass this along. I met Dr. Nguyen for a consult and he's excellent. I hope you never need him but this is a great opportunity for Q&A on LE next Tuesday night. Hope to possibly meet some of my BCO friends.image

Looking forward to hearing about it.

I had my carpal tunnel surgery last week. Right hand still wrapped up so hard to type. Everyone was great and avoided LE arm!!

I don't usually wear a sleeve unless I fly in a plane or I work out with weights at the gym. I can see a slight difference in my upper arm areas so I might start wearing it more. Is there a way to make it go down?? I drink a lot of water, just not the same every day and I do my upper body decongestant exercises every morning.

Does anyone need to purchase a MLD Flexitouch Pump & garments? I have one that I can part with, at a used price. It is virtually brand new, with upper extremity cuff and torso/abdomen cuff. PM me if you're interested please.

    Hello my name is Anna!

I just loved this post about kicking LE's butt with some exercise! :)

Today i have done professor Neil Pillers exercise that has proven to remove about 5 ml lymphatic fluid from the arm after one set! I am quite happy with this little exercise, and always do it a couple of times every day! Have anyone of you heard about that before? Here's a google link for those who want to check out the exercise, its free:)

    https://www.google.no/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instan...

I have never tried out the Lebed videos before, are they good? I am curious.

I am currently trying out a exercise program i found for lympedema at http://www.exeromed.com/ . The breathing and decongestive exercises. Have only been doing it for about 1 week, but i am enjoying it.

Thank you Anna, I've already printed and posted on my wall as a reminder - the arm exercise. Here's my story - I posted at radiation recovery an hour ago.

I was fine the first month after radiation except for very tired. My problems didn't start until the month after - SUDDEN swelling, redness, infection, pain, peau 'd orange, pain. Several diagnoses and treatments followed. dx'd with Cellulitis, radiation mastitis, angioedema from radiation. And now I fear the scarring will become permanent radiation fibrosis. And for treatment: antibiotics, prednisone, LE pt, breast elevation, breast biopsy for IBC (benign, Thank God). Two pt's didn't know the heck what to do about me and gave up quite quickly. Now they want to send me to a third outside my teaching hospital on the cutting edge of technology. In the meantime, I exercise everyday, have used every cream and home remedy I can think of such as epson salts (that eleviated a little pain). Found out calendula is an astrigent, as is lemon, and apple cidar vinegar. Compression is iffy, I have read so much - it can constrict the lymph from flowing and only one pt, no doctor suggested that. What I know for sure is BS, RO, MO, primary, haven't a clue about the complexities of LE. Although my MO came in late and I wouldn't expect my primary to know. I don't get the feeling that in the three months I'm dealing with this anyone of them went home and read up on the subject.... although I know my MO truly wants to help.

Search "lymphatic Stanford" and you will find the Stanford Lymphatic department with Stanley G. Rockson, MD., lymphedema expert. He has written a book, it's at Amazon for $60 on Kindle. There is a lympedema registry there, as well as clinical trials at Stanford, also listed at clinicaltrials.gov. And you can see him at Youtube - just search Stanley G. Rockson. Best information I've found so far. They are testing a anti-inflammatory medication that is already on the market, but not designated for lymphedema. So far there is no cure for lymphedema. Lymphedema has three stages, the earlier it is caught the better chance of reversal.

Hey all its been a while. Anyone joining me here on the kick butt thread. Glennie, Binney, Carol, Laurel and others! I've been so busy kicking LE in the butt that I've had no time to post. Down 20lbs in a year and great heartbeat and muscle tone in legs. Gradual weights in arms and up to 6lbs lol but I started at one pound. Following LE recommendation on gradual weight lifting. Lift two to three times a week. Feel so much better!

Hey let's start up this thread again, we had it going for a few years. Doesn't matter what u do as long as your MOVING. No competition here either as we are all on different cancer/ LE roads and hills

Come on I need encouragement to!

BTW the Neil Piller (tai chi like) exercise Anna posted is my fav for helping move lymph. I'll bump up my post on it. You need little space and can even do it in a handicap bathroom at the mall if need be!Takes no time at all. I even do it on the beach and everyone says it looks so peaceful!

I am currently in the midst of the Winter Challenge at work...completing 600 minutes of exercise over 4 weeks. I earn $100 from our Wellness Committee for accomplishing this. 2 weeks in, and with my 4 hours of water aerobics each week, I am 30 minutes away from my goal. I just came back from a 35 minute brisk fall walk after work. The leaves here are mostly down so lots of good crunchy leaves to walk through, as well as a few hold-out trees of orange and red. I love this time of year. I had a 6 month check yesterday with scans to follow on the 17th. I will breathe a happy sigh after that. Great to hear of your steady progress hugz4u. I have lost no weight, but feeling good. My triglycerides took a jump recently, although HDL still in good place. I question whether the arimidex may be the culprit or my arthritis med, but working on watching my diet closer as well. What is everyone else doing as of late?

Hi, all. I think this is my first time posting here. I ended up with truncal and upper extremity LE within 10 days of surgery, grr! It took awhile to get everything lined up, but I did my 15 days of intense therapy during the last of my chemo and finished before I started rads. I managed to keep myself from swelling to the point of needing to repeat the intense therapy throughout rads. I did really well this week, until yesterday, getting in my MLD and LE PT exercises twice each day. Tuesday and Thursday, I made it to my self-defense classes (an hour of cardio with techniques taken from any/all martial arts taught with the focus in self-defense), and I'm working on push-ups and horizontal pulls and a 30 day squat challenge. I'm not sure if my PT exercises are Lebed or not, but I plan on checking that out. Thanks for the inspiration!

wow, 1step, my LE lady said NO push-ups, never ever again, absolutely not!

Funny how different "experts" give such different advice.
