Shore--my situation was simpler than yours, but I did use two different bases during treatment. My breast surgeon is at Paoli CC (part of Great Valley Health), and all my testing and imaging are done there. But I chose to go to Lankenau for rads, with a great rad onc who had been lured away from Paoli by Lankenau. Luckily both places are in the same GV Health system, as are my gyn and PCP, so everyone has easy access to all my records. There's no med onc in my life, since I declined hormonal therapy. A friend of mine, however, in combining Great Valley Health (surgery and testing at Paoli) and UPernn at Valley Forge (UPenn Health System) for rads and is having no trouble with records and contacts. She too declined hormonal therapy, so has no med onc in her life either. TG

I am pleased to report that the social worker at HRCC that I complained about has been replaced by someone who is very good at her job.

Sandcastle GFS has an amazing restaurant called Ratz. Ate there last year overlooking a bridge and flowers that looked like it was out of a Monet

Hi Ladies!
I am trying to decide on my radiation oncologist and my medical oncologist. I am choosing between Dr. Sang Sim (Monmouth Medical) and Dr. Edward Soffen (Princeton Radiation @ Centrastate). (They are radiation oncologists.) Monmouth Medical is further, but I would get Dr. Sim each time -- at Dr. Soffen's practice, the doctors rotate for your weekly consultations. Do you think it's better to get the same doctor each time? What do they do during these weekly consults? . . . I am also choosing between Dr. Seth Cohen (Monmouth Medical) and Dr. Kathleen Toomey (Steeplechase). (They are medical oncologists). . . All of these decisions can drive you batty lol. Any thoughts/ideas? Thanks!

tough choice, but you have narrowed it down to some good ones
since my stuff was at Hackensack, I did have the same docs each time

@fastwalker. I had Dr Sim. He is amazing. I did the accelerated treatment over 4 weeks. I had no burning at all. I just got really tan. Dr, Sim is super helpful and knowledgeable. When my oncologist at Sloan was not being helpful, it was Dr. Sim who came to the rescue. He was at Sloan for years and understood a lot off yo dilemmas were due to the overall Sloan beurocracy. I live closer to Monmouth so that made it easier, too.

proudtospin: Glad to know that they are good choices. I hear Hackensack is great!
DaniellaD: Happy to hear you had no burning - that's one of my concerns. I had a similar thing happen with Dr. Sim. My breast surgeon didn't want to do a re-excision to clear a microscopic positive margin. Dr. Sim got on the phone and told her his concerns -- and she agreed to do the surgery! I only met him once, but I really liked him. He is easy to talk to - and not intimidating like some doctors. I also like that he does prone radiation because it is safer for the heart and lungs. Did you do prone radiation? How was his staff? Were they competent and nice too? Did you go to any of the other oncology docs at Monmouth? Sorry for all the questions. Thank you!

best of wishes and if you need a pal for driving duties, give a holler as we as survivors need to give back
start planning the end of rad celebrations! many plan a nice vacation

proudtospin: Thanks for the kind wishes! Have to admit - the idea of having a powerful linear accelerator pointed at my heart and lungs freaks me out. . . That's a good idea to file in the back of my mind - I have an older car and worry if it will continue to behave during rads.
0 -
just tell your car to behave or you will call the repair man who will pull the guts out!!
good luck, try not to worry and it will all be over

proudtospin: Thanks for making laugh - I needed that! (And also for your kind words of encouragement. :-)) . . . Do you like spin classes? (I do a lot of fast-walking for exercise. )

Fast walker - I had my trestment, surgery, etc all at Sloan in Basking Ridge. My surgeon, Dr. Deborah Capko suggested Dr. Sim knowing that I live in Monmouth county. Dr. Sim gave me a referral to a local oncologist if I wanted to switch - Dr. Cohen in West Long Branch. My cousin used him when she had BC a few years ago. One of my friends from high school is using Cohen now and she likes him.
I did prone radiation. The techs were awesome. I was sad that I wasn't going to see them every morning once I completed radiation. Dr. Sim is one of those doctors that will take the extra step. I was suffering terrible headaches from herceptin. My onc refused to believe they were related to herceptin and was insisting I see a neurologist. Dr. Sim took time to hear my gripes, agreed headaches were one of the side effects, gave me a rx for Mobix to relieve my pain and his personal cell number to call if the headaches got worse. He also called my newbie onc and relayed my concerns in a positive way so her ego wouldn't be hurt. He is amazing. And again, I had the 4 week "Canadian" regimen and only tanned. If you can drive to Monmouth daily, then I would suggest using Dr. Sim! Good luck!

Well I used to do spin classes but then after my diagnosis in 08, I switched up my routine so that I was doing more weight bearing stuff. Recently I have been switching my gym time up again as my back is misbehaving, it seems to be getting old~~
keep up with your work outs, best anti depressant for someone going through this stupid junk!
