Hi there. Sorry you have to be here but welcome. IMO you should get one of those opinions at a NYC university teaching hospital. People come from all over the world to be seen at these hospitals. You don't say where you live in NJ but if you are set on staying in state I would recommend RWJ in New Brunswick. Good luck and keep us posted.

I actually wanted to go to NYU or Columbia, but neither of them take my insurance. My husband just found out that MSKCC does take our insurance and they said they would retest the pathology slides too. Anyone have experience with MSKCC?

I'm actually right by New Brunswick. I just called my insurance and Columbia's Dr Bret Taback takes my insurance, but seems he's into moles, not just breast.

yeah they said he is an expert in both. They also recommended Dr Laura Klein who is in NJ. I love that there are so many doctors, but it makes choosing so hard.

Dandelion, I am being treated at MSK in Manhattan and Brooklyn. They also have a facility in Basking Ridge. I've been very satisfied. You could start with the Lauder Center, which specializes in breast cancer, and then get your follow-up treatment in Basking Ridge.

I'm so sorry you have to go through this. Send me a PM if you want more information about MSK.

Dandelion....Dr. Tabeck is actually in the practice I go to at Columbia. I see Dr. Sheldon Feldman and I love him. Are you sure he doesn't take your insurance? BTW he is my breast surgeon. Dr. Tabeck specializes in breast melanomas but is also a breast surgeon.

For MO I'm looking into Deborah Toppmeyer, MD. However, if I go to MSKCC I would stick with them for everything, I think..

dtad, I wish! I called my insurance and even them, but he doesn't take it. :( He's the one I'd really love to see too. I would see Dr. Taback, but I'd really love the surgeon's focus on breast.

Hi again. IMO Dr. Tabeck is a good option. It's sort of a double speciality. They are all general surgeons who specialize in breast surgery. In his case he has a double specialty. His skin specialty is very uncommon so I would think most of his work is in breast surgery. You could always call and get more information about it. When I was in the hospital for my BMX he covered for Dr. Feldman one day and I really liked him. So many decisions! Good luck and keep us posted...

i spoke with a woman who provides therapy to breast cancer patients and she highly suggested CINJ Dr. Kearney. I'm going to call them tomorrow, she said the whole team is excellent. She said to use MSKCC for 2nd look at biopsy, or even get biopsy done there if possible.

With my firat cancer diagnosis, I was a patient of Dr. Gorsky at MSK BR. She was very, very thorough and spent a lot of time with me. I liked the facility very much (it had just opened) but left due to insurance problems which required I get an elected official involved to resolve (do not like MSK billing department). Unfortunately, I don't know the doctor you are considering but wish you all the best.

    Hi ladies,

New here and looking for some guidance... Let me start by saying I'm 37, married with two young daughters... Last December I found A lump and went to my obgyn... He sent me off for a diagnostic mammo and US.. 3 hours later I was sent home with a birad 3 and microcalcifications (nothing about the lump even though the dr and the tech both felt it but could not be seen on the mammo or US).. In two weeks I'm going in for my third follow up mammo this year. I know I will end up with the same end result- we'll see you in 6 months. The lump has grown to something that feels like a chewed up piece of gum. My obgyn isn't there as often anymore and the newbie told me to wait and see, ugh. So I guess my question is does anyone know of a breast (?) Doctor willing to see me, my slides and my lump to give me a better idea as to what it might be.. I've called msk in NY but I need to have a diagnosis in order to be seen.. I live in Bergen County. Thank you for any help.

try Hackensack or even morristown hospital ? I'm not sure about an actually referral but those seems like good starts. And I would ask for an MRI if you can get one

Thank you Scaredashell... I have been going to Valley for my mammos, and when I asked for further testing (I have extremely dense breasts) I was given the 6 month talk of wait and see, but no mention of lump..My insurance would cover an MRI but I need a doctor to write the script.. I live by Hackensack so maybe I'll give them a call, just not sure what kind of doctor I'm looking for.. Morristown is doable too.. Thank you for responding

I live also in Bergen County but go for treatment at SMKC. I think they well known and one of the best clinics. All my Dr.friends say when it comes to something serious like it go to Sloan.
