    Hi respectnfreedom!

Another Aussie here. I am a "Uni", but not having any issue with it. I was very lucky to dodge the Lymphedema and pain. I have a wardrobe of prosthesis, boobs and foobs and go half flat some of the time, often in a firm shape wear tank. I am 11 months out from surgery.

I was wondering if you had checked the possibility of a prophylactic Mx here in Aus? I think it can be done in some circumstances.

Wow, that woman was amazing for the time! I have seen a couple of photos of young women who have had BMX, on the beach with their children, in just bikini bottoms. I think they look incredible! Very powerful!

I had a next door neighbor who was in her late 90's when she passed, but she had a Umx in the 30's or 40's. She would do her garden wearing just a thin sun dress and hat. She talked to everyone who passed her gate. I used to laugh when I saw her chatting to a man with that thin dress and that single, probable "E" cup left free under the sun dress. The men would look everywhere but right at her!

LOL Ariom! I can just imagine how a man would handle that!! I know one thing, next summer I will just be wearing tank tops and not the bras and foobs. I haven't had any of them on in several weeks and don't mind going everywhere flat.

It is east to forget these little gems. The other great one is Lavender on the Temples for sleep or headache!

Hi All, I am sorry to be away for so long.. I had a wedding shower for my daughter here at home (stressful for me yet joy-filled), then she got married 10 hours away...then I suddenly lost my brother in law to cancer. The chemo got him, second treatment, 63 years old. How upsetting. (and so as not to upset anyone here, he had other **serious** medical conditions which made him so fragile to the chemo, I just wanted to share that too so no one feels afraid of chemo) All of this happened in 6 weeks time, too much for me to process.

It has also been a mind-bending experience for me, boobs seem less important than ever. We are survivors. Certainly if foobs make you feel pretty, go for it. But if you love comfort, go for that too.

I am loving this aromatherapy discussion, smell is the only "sense" that is hardwired into our brains, and I have just begun exploring what makes me feel calm... So much to learn. I do use the lavender every night on this small diffuser near my bead and I swear it helps me sleep faster and deeper. But what else for calming?

Hi crystalphm, nice to have you back.

I am so sorry for your loss. It must have been terribly difficult when you were also having such a wonderful family event at the same time.

I have a wonderful calming blend that I use from the same maker as my pain relief. It is a blend of

Lavender, Marjoram,Neroli, Cedarwood, Pettigrain and Orange. It is absolutely sensational in the bedroom before going to sleep. I have friends who swear by it for their children at night.

The same company makes other amazing blends that I use in a burner. My favorite is "Be Inspired" or "Be Aware". I have been using them all for many years, and love them all. I often have a massage with "Be Aware". I feel it gives me clarity if I have something on my mind.

    Take care!

ariom, what is the company you buy from? Do they sell in the US ALSO? Sounds like it could be very helpful!

    Hi Linda!

I am not sure if they sell in the US. The company is called Balanced Essentials, and they are based here in Australia.

They are TGA approved, which is our Therapeutic Goods Administration. They are not cheap, but they are super quality.

I would think you'd have companies who are producing the same type of blends locally.

Aromatherapy is getting recognition here in Australia. It is being used in some forward thinking medical centers and Hospitals, and the calming blends are being used with Dementia patients in Nursing homes.

I hope you can find something similar, if these aren't available. I have managed to dodge a lot of meds, by using these regularly.

My problem is inflammation and these oils seem to really address that issue.

Thanks for the link sunflowers! And there appears to be a sale on! (But the sale page disappears right away and I can't seem to get back to it.) I would buy BE Relieved in a heartbeat, but I am concerned that some of the ingredients may be toxic to my cat.** I guess the operative words here are "may be", but I wouldn't want to hurt my Boo. I wouldn't be putting any of it on him, but the aroma still might be a problem. I think I'll call the vet and ask her what she thinks before I order anything. I've used lavender oil a lot in the past, I never imagined it could hurt my cat!! Yikes I just remembered I have some in a bulb type diffuser right now in the library!!

I bought some Frakincense when I was up in town, it wasn't on the list. I just used a touch on my thumb joint that has bad arthritis and then covered it with the brace. It felt a little better, but then I probably didn't use enough.

CCFW, I'm going to my friends for Thanksgiving, very flat and fabulous!! This will be the first time since sx that the husbands will see me, it may be interesting.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my flat sisters that celebrate this holiday! Enjoy the day, the food, and the friends and family!

    .........................

**Some of the essential oils which are potentially toxic to cats are: Peppermint oil, Lemon oil, Lavender oil, Melaleuca oil, Tea Tree oil, Cinnamon Bark oil, Wintergreen oil, Thyme oil and Birch oil. Oils containing phenol are also toxic to cats.

I just looked up phenol containing essential oils and got this list:

    Essential oils with phenol:

Cinnamon Leaf, Clove Bud, Oregano, Thyme ct thymol, Tulsi (Holy Basil)

love that picture!! poor turkey chill while you can hahaha.

I like essential oils a lot- I used to go to a yoga class on sunday mornings where the instructor would use oils with a diffuser and then lavender on the feet during relaxation- divine!

I am using castile soap- trying to cut back on some of the chemicals of concern but honestly even though it makes a lovely lather and has a blast of peppermint I can still smell that castile smell underneath- I am a nurse so don't know if I can continue using it- we used to give baths with it so it reminds me of a plastic pan with sudsy water ughhh.

    Hi wyo!

I am very conscious of using chemicals too. I believe most of my sensitivities, and health issues were caused by my early years spent in the tinting room, when I was doing my hairdressing apprenticeship. No one had a clue in those days what was in those colors and solutions, and what the long term consequences may be.

I use the soaps from Balanced Essentials, but have also found a line in the US called "Nubian Heritage", their range is amazing and their Coconut and Papaya soap is fabulous. I have tried all of the soaps and body butters, but keep coming back to the Coconut & Papaya, no chemicals, great ingredients, and my bathroom smells like a Tropical Island. Definitely worth a look, and if you like Coconut there is a shampoo that I love from the US called Desert Essence, they also have other types, even a fragrance free! Again nothing nasty in it either.

    Hi ladies,

I am wearing a cami about 2 months out from surgery because of seromas. My foobs are always mismatched after a few hours and if I look in the mirror, I am not happy that my chest looks phony. One foob is high; one low and they drift to the middle like they are a uniboob! ScaredI am going to try to sew some stitches in the pockets to keep them from moving around. Has anyone tried this?

Am liking the ABC cami as it has the pockets on the outside so the velcro isn't scratchy. The cami is  loose on me, so super comfy and doesn't create any indentations in my skin.  But that means the cami moves around but figure that is better for the seromas. I have gone flat but it seems I always run into a student or acquaintance and am worried they will notice.

I was excited to wear the "real" prosthesis I got which looks super. Very realistic. But with the seromas still making fluid, anything with a band is out. Can't wait to wear the Marika bras with foam pads.

Wow Georgie, you've been through some serious surgeries!  I'm so impressed and uplifted by your practical optimism.  Good job keeping your chin up!

In October I brought my girlfriends with me to Nordstroms (a place I never go!) and we packed their biggest fitting room to the gills with laughing ladies.  They helped me pick my very first set of foobs and camisoles, etc.  I was amazed how my mind could just forget what had happened to my breasts once those foobs were on and warmed up.  They feel so REAL!

Alas, I have only worn them a few times.  Like, less than a handful.  I don't feel free when I have them on.  I thought, maybe I should just keep wearing them until they feel right.  Practice makes perfect?  The last time I had them on was for a big community celebration.  I was wearing a clingy red dress that looked awesome with the foobs.  But, halfway through I felt so stifled.  You know?  Just like a tomboy in a church dress.  So I snuck into the bathroom with my friend and put them in her purse.

Voila!  Just like that.  Even flat, in a clingy red dress, I feel more beautiful.  Especially flat.

No one notices.  Even people who have known me for years, who see me in my swim suit at the pool every week, are stunned if I mention that my boobs are gone.  It just never occurs to them.

My students were horrified at first.  But now they are used to it when they run into me at the club or around town.  I am not comfortable going back into the classroom, though.  And may never be.

Ultimately, I think it's wonderful when women can find their own best comfort, whatever that may be, or how that might look.  You're doing a great job RIGHT NOW

georgie, that unbalanced look is what keeps me from wearing my foobs out in public. The bands on the bras hurt my chest too, but when I look at myself in the mirror I swear one foob is always higher than the other. I'm still waiting to try the contact foobs waiting 6 months to try them.  With them actually stuck to my chest that may not be an issue.  As long as I can put them on properly! ;)

The foobs I got were about the same size I was before BMX (Ccup).  Maybe if I ever get another set of foobs, I will go really small and then it won't look so lopsided to me.  Problem is I am so comfortable going every where flat, getting more foobs may just be a waste of money....

happy, you are so right, as I am out and about no one really notices I'm flat.  I was self conscious at the very beginning, but after about a week or so flat just didn't matter.

    happyraccoon,

Thanks for the encouraging post! Made me feel good. So encouraging.

LOL, I never go to Nordstrom's either. But I hear they are very nice about sewing pockets into any bra for free. Sounds like it was fun with your friends.

I'm not sure how I feel about my prosthesis as I've only worn it twice. Once at Thanksgiving. I will wear it for presentations and meetings and see how I feel after the seromas heal. I also chose the same size I was. Was thinking I would go smaller, but the smaller foobs looked funny. The silicone foobs look great and feel so real. I was a bit overwhelmed about keeping them in a box and washing them. Just a foreign idea... Love the idea of waking up and not dealing with them. But it's just a different way of getting dressed.

It feels good to "go flat" but I teach children and I just don't want to look odd. It's wonderful you feel beautiful going flat! That is the best sign that you have accepted where you are. For me, it's a process:) But I will admit people do not usually look. Winter is an easy time to dash out to the store b/c I have a bulky coat and scarf.

    grammaB,

Yep, I am really certain for some reason one of the foobs IS higher than the other after a few hours. Not just my imagination! But I am trying to use scarves and sweaters so maybe they aren't so noticeable. At least it is an improvement from the lumpy puffs I had post surgery!

I am the type of person who does NOT obsess about my appearance. So I want to get dressed in the morning and not look in the mirror the rest of the day! Hope the contact foobs work for you after you heal!

I'm a uni and have the latitude problem with everything but the silicone. I have some back pain issues and my bra band goes right over the painful spot so I often wear the microbead foob. I just have to remember to adjust the real one up and the foob down several times a day.

  • Ariom
    Ariom Member Posts: 4,027

Hi Wrenn! I like that, a "Latitude" problem. I too have to make a little adjustment, but have discovered myself doing it without realizing it, just as men might adjust their, well, you know. It's a quick thing, but my husband gives me a wink,if he sees me doing it outsideWinking

  • grammaB
    grammaB Member Posts: 1,118

LOL, Ariom/Wren, you guys crack me up!!  I can certainly understand the unis needing to wear the foob for balance.  The more I read, the less interested I become in wearing my pair of silicon foobs.  I will give the contacts a chance.  If they work, I may go smaller when/if I get my next set.  The farther out I get from surgery, the less I worry or even think about being flat.  It is just the way I am now and if the foobs aren't totally comfortable, I'm not going to wear them.
