Congratulations Broncos fans! That was one time that the game was way better than the ads:) And even the halftime show was really good!

Bosco, great news on starting treatment! Who knew platelets could bring joy...It feels good to be doing something...and to have a good team!

Patty, so glad your son's adventure turned out to be positive. They really do turn out to be nice adults!

Chelle, It's therapeutic any time it's possible to laugh and have fun and not think about MBC for a few hours..and there are meds for the after effects:-)

LovesMaltese, congratulations on the good bone scan!!

Lynne, Hope you and DH can get back to "normal" soon. You are right...sometimes it seems like breast cancer is everywhere.

I've been reading about the "Warburg effect" that was first published decades ago. It's about mitochondria and how cancer cells feed and grow. There has been more recent research that appears to show that using a ketogenic diet with no sugars or carbs helps starve the cancer cells that like the glucose byproduct...lactic acid. Didn't know if anyone in this group has taken this diet approach as a way to complement the traditional treatments we are taking. The two books I've been reading are Tripping Over the Truth, the return to the metabolic theory of cancer...and the Ketogenic Cookbook. Thought it might be worth a try just in time for easter candy and girl scout cookie season.

Despite the publicity about this new Zika virus, DH and I are going to Mexico later this month with my youngest daughter and her husband...Freaks me out a bit to take a chance on getting a virus and especially for her to take a chance. Deciding to not worry about it. She is 35 and can make up her own mind. Feels a bit crazy...but we love Mexico and I want to dive in Cozumel while I can.

Getting on a plane in Tampa to go home this afternoon and eager to see if my seat is next to typhoid Mary again...being warm for a few days reduced the aches and laughing with an old friend for 9 days was good medicine. We had a few good cries, too.

    Have a great week everyone!

Kathryn- I'm doing vegan and the reason I am is because of protein and hormones. If I did decide to do the diet you are reading about I would do fish as the protein. Something to really consider if I get sick of this. I have no sugar or sweets. Safe travels home. Sun sounds comforting.

Carol, I wish we had been able to meet last Friday. Maybe it will work out at some point. My husband will have follow up visits with several different types of specialists over the next several months, so we will be back here. Maybe you will be at Dana at the same time, and we can meet.

My husband had a ct scan late yesterday (oral contrast only so no damage to kidney). It took forever to hear the results, but it looks like he has pancreatitis. He can start clear liquids tonight then slowly move on to all liquids then soft foods then solids. Hopefully all will go well. I am encouraged by the fact that he was able to keep down the contrast last night. Kidney function continues to improve daily. So exciting. His surgeon stopped by today and said that even if kidney function stays as is for the rest of his life, he will be good. We are hoping it continues to improve. We don't have a release date yet, but we are hoping to be home soon.

Deanna, I think that Cam Newton is a gifted quarterback on a talented team. He does have to learn how to handle meetings with press, especially after a loss. He was not a good role model for young people after yesterday's game. I should add that I don't know why reporters have to ask the losing team members dumb questions after a big loss.

Kathryn, have a wonderful vacation in Mexico. I am sure they will be selling insect repellent on every corner down there. I love visiting warm places during the winter. I am convinced that I was meant to live near the ocean, just warmer water than we have here in New England. I like the smell, the breeze, the sight, and the feel of the ocean. It is relaxing, refreshing, and intimidating at the same time.

    Hello everyone.

Lynne, I didn't mean to disparage Cam Newton personally. He's 26. Needs some coaching re. handling press conferences, but he's an amazing athlete. I just felt he kind of gave up before the game was over. It was his performance -- giving up halfway through the 4th quarter -- not him personally -- I was disappointed about.

    Glad your hubby is improving!

Kathryn, I think diet can make a significant difference in our overall health, but I favor a plant based diet (over ketogenic) for many reasons I won't go into here. But we're all different, and only you knows what feels right for your body. And a Mexican beach sounds pretty heavenly right now! Enjoy your trip, and be sure to share photos with us!

Hi Deanne, I didn't think that you were disparaging Newton personally at all. I agree with your assessment. He certainly didn't have the game he had hoped for. We often joke about the Patriots' press conferences because the players all provide the same answers. Coached? Definitely. My husband thinks that the Pat's head coach gives the same comments after every game. Itgives him a good laugh.

thank you all! It's crazy how much this football team means to us denverites. We are always the underdog. But we love them. Most of us bleed orange and blue.

Ends up, that I didn't over do it at all. I have the flu. Fever, gastro issues, chest and sinus congestion. Blah! So happy that it didn't hit me until late last night.

Big week for my Canadian friends. Scans and scanxiety to go with it!!! I'm sending all positive vibes up north!

Lynn, I'm feeling very positive about your Dh health. I just feel a sort of calm now. I think that all will be as it should be a in a few more weeks time. You will be at home and settled into another new normal before you know it. You can look back on this fall, and winter and breath a sigh of relief, that you both made it through what has no doubt been a very difficult time. You will be able to put it all behind you and move forward. Lots of hope and love from your cheerleader in the west!

Bosco, I'm really thinking that you will once again bounce back. Your new tx is going to kick this cancers booty

Goodnight to all, going to take a dose of NyQuil and sleep through some of this misery.

    Love Chelle.

Chelle hope the flu flies away real fast. Glad for you too it did not hit earlier :)

Lynne nice to hear that DH is progressing in the right direction. You seem to have good support there, so glad for you.

    Hugs to everyone

As it turns out it's time for the Zometa shot, and Dani would have to go in just for that bcs she's now on Ibr/Letr, so we asked Onco to switch to Xgeva, she has been on it before, and this way she will inject if herself, and not have to deal with the trip. Onco agreed, and he even said it could be a better idea! Interesting.

He is interested in Immunotherapy drug, he will have her sign authorization and order the drug so if this tx now is not gonna work, he will be on the ready.

Deanna sent to Onco the link for the Ont 380, I wonder what he will say. Thank you. I told him I have my people ;)

I am not sure if I saw it here, but somewhere I read about the need to do constant biopsies...or often...does anyone here remember seeing it?

Onco is doing a kinda party tom for patients, with music etc...I was invited by him, I really did not wanna go but don't wanna insult him, I might have to show my face, make an appearance.

I did post on the Ibrance thread, that Dani was offered what's called "bone strength"from New Chapter. As it turns out, it could help with sleep. So I am gonna start taking it!! A full night sleep, you kidding me?? First I'll have the "sleepytime" tea from Celestial Seasonings, and then those pills. Wish me good luck.

Good morning everyone. Today is primary day in NH. I won't be there to cast my vote. I am a little bummed by that. I was even invited to attend one of the candidates' post election gathering tonight. It would have been an interesting experience, but I am where I want to be.

My DH was unable to keep the clear liquids down last night, darn it. He will try again today with a little help from some medication. It seems odd because he was able to keep down that nasty CT contrast the day before. He is feeling frustrated and down today, and it saddens me to see that. I did make him smile earlier, although it was not intentional. I looked at the clock on the wall, and thought that it said 6:15. I went into the bathroom to change so I would be ready when the doctors made their rounds at 6:30. When I emerged from the bathroom, my husband was paging the nurse because his IV was leaking. The nurse came in and turned on the light, and I noticed the clock did not say 6:15, it said 3:30. I was all dressed and ready to start my day at 3:30 a.m. I will be sure to put on my glasses before I check the clock from now on.My DH chuckled when I told him what I had done. I am hoping things turn around today and that I can get his spirits back up.

Chelle, I hope you are feeling better. I am glad you were able to make it through the big game before the symptoms set in. Thank you for your encouragement. I am staying positive about DH. We seem so close to the end of this nightmare, but we need to get there.

Mom, I hope you do go to the onco's party. It might not be your first choice of events, but maybe you will be able to relax and have fun for a little while. You spend so much of your time concentrating on other people, and you deserve a little break even if it is the onco's party.

Bosco, I hope your treatments go well today and that you have no SEs. We are all there in spirit, right by your side.

I have lost track of things here. Anyone having scans or getting results this week?

    Good morning to all,

Lynne, I'm so sorry to hear of dh's setback. He will be back on track and on the road to a full recovery before you know it. This is just a bump in the road. Your story made me chuckle, up at 3:30 am dressed and ready to start your day. You'll need a nap later on. You asked about scans, I have my bone scan tomorrow, and my infusion and onc appt on Friday. I had my CT scan last Monday so I'm thinking I'll get all of my results on Friday. I'm definitely a nervous wreck!

Momallthetime, I say go to the party, and I'm glad Dani's onc is thinking ahead! Let us know if you do go. Sending you big (((hugs)))

Chelle, get over that flu quickly! Nyquil does strange things to me but it really does help me sleep. Rest up and drink alot, I wish I could send you my magic chicken soup. I just made a pot for my neighbors who were both down with the flu.

Bosco, thinking of you and praying your treatment is gentle on you.

    Hugs to all, Annie

    Hi everyone,

I heard from Valerie (Kendrasue). She is okay and hopes to be posting soon. She sends her love to everyone and wanted me to let you all know that she has been following our posts. Our concern and support have helped her through a difficult time.

She did have some good news, and I hope she doesn't mind that I am telling you before she has a chance to do so. I just can't keep good news to myself. Valerie recently has a CAT scan and nuclear bone scan. There was NO progression. YAY! The radiologist told Valerie that the scans looked much better than her last ones that were done in August.

Annie - busy week! Praying for good results!

Chelle - you certainly don't need the flu, bummer.

Deanna - love that fertile imagination of yours!

Lynne, I can only imagine how your hubby must feel at this point. I'm glad you were able to provide a laugh for him (and us) this morning. One thing about hospitals at night -- it's really hard to tell what time it is because there's always activity. Hope you can relax somewhere and catch a few extra zzzzz's today. Sounds like you could use them. And thanks for the update on Kendrasue (Valerie)! That's wonderful news!

Annie, I'll be thinking of you especially tomorrow and Friday -- praying for a good report!

MomATT, that was nice that Dani's onc invited you to his party. Maybe seeing him in a slightly more relaxed setting -- perhaps even talking about something other than bc and tx plans -- will be helpful to your future comfort level with him. I hope you go. And I hope the new supplement helped you sleep better last night. D.

    Good morning!

I had company this weekend so I am way behind on reading.

I'm having a hip & pelvis CT this morning, so good thoughts please. Results by phone tomorrow which is good. Not sure what's she's looking for on the pelvis? Hopefully nothing.... but the hip has really been bothering me, so would be good to have it "spot welded" :)

I'll catch up tonight. Thinking of you all, cheers, Dee

Lynne, Too funny that you were all set to go at 3:30. Are you sleeping in a recliner or cot? When my dh was in the hospital, I always wanted to be there when the residents came through early in the morning. So I left the room at 5:00 am and went to go get coffee. Got stuck in the elevator. They were rebooting the whole elevator system and I got stuck between floors. Didn't like that one bit. I was never so happy to see maintenance. My dh got kick out of that too. Nice that we can amuse them! Hope your dh has improvement today. Are you getting some rest/sleep? Do you have family around that can visit with you?

Dee and Annie, Good luck with your scans.

    Waving back to you Patty.

Moma, I'm with you on not much sleep. I'll try Sleepytime tea. Have fun at the party.

Good afternoon to all you lovely ladies,

Dee and Annie good luck with your scans I hope they show nothing out of the ordinary. Nice Dee that you get your results so fast. I have e the waiting that we must contend with, not fun.

Milaandra good for you that's a hard one. If I'm correct then you are eating a ton of protein right? I've been reading to much about different diets.... Would be interested greatly to hear how it's going.

MomATT I agree with Deanna go have fun it will be good to see him as a normal Joe and you may have a great time. I find with me if I'm not keen then those parties are the good ones.

    Anybody hear from Myra

    Patty waving back at you🤗

So the proof will be in the pictures I guess for me this week. We will see if this crazy marajuana thing is working or not. Pet scan on Friday so not looking forward to trying to lay still forever.... I'm hoping ,hoping, hoping that it's working it will be good to know either way. It's a few days off but I have been thinking about it way to much. Have to try and keep busy just took the dog on an eight kilometer walk we are both pooped. Finally some sun here in rainy Vancouver so I wasn't planning on wasting it lol.

I hear you my friends loud and clear! Putting my dancing shoes on. Usually, I don't like small talk, but will see what comes of it. Definitely will be a chance to catch doc on a different scene, hmmm and of course I will ask a question or two :)

Lynne all I could do is give you warm hugs and pray he gets better real fast. I could so see getting the time mixed up at the Hospital. It's not a normal environment. You had him smile, kudos to you. So glad you got in touch w Valerie, thx so much. She is so young, she reminds me of my daughter.

Lindalou u made me laugh, I could really imagine the frustration.

TM's are down one point after 1st cycle. Of course we'll take it, but...No more Zometa. Xgeva it is.

    Hello to all,

Thankyou Deanna, Lynne, Linda, Lindalou and Wendy for your well wishes on my scan results. Bone scan injection is at 10:15 in the morning so I have an early start! It's over an hour drive to the cancer centre.

Dee, positive thoughts for good results tomorrow, you're so lucky you don't have to wait. Had my CT last Monday and no one has called me.

Wendy, sending all my positive mojo your way for your pet scan on Friday. You'll do just fine, I feel confident about that.

Lynne, thank you so much for letting us know about Kendrasue, I'm glad she haf some good news.

Patty, waving back hello to you. Have I ever told you how nice it is to have you back here?

Momallthetime, glad you decided to go! And down one point is good, they're not going up so that's a good thing.

Just picked my youngest dd up from the Toronto airport, she spent 10 days in the Cayman Islands. She had an awesome time but I'm so glad to have her home.

    Hugs to all, Annie

    Hello to all,

My post just got deleted! Forgot what I wrote! Let's try this again.

Thankyou, Lynne, Deanna, Linda, Lindalou, Babs and Wendy for the well wishes on my scan. My injection is at 10:15 tomorrow morning.

Dee, wishing you get great results tomorrow! You're lucky you don't have to wait, I still don't have results from last Monday's CT scan.

Wendy, sending all my positive mojo your way on Friday. I am confident you will do very well!

Lynne, thanks for sharing the good news about Kendrasue! I look forward to see her posting again.

Momallthetime, glad you decided to go! Hope you're having a good time. A one point drop in Dani's tumor markers may not seem like alot but it's a step in the right direction.

Patty, waving hello back at ya. Have I ever told you how nice it is to have you back here?

My youngest dd is home from the Cayman Islands today. I'm so happy she's home safe and sound. She had 10 beautiful days basking in the sun.

    Hugs to all, Annie

    Hi All!

It's been a long day. Thanks for the good wishes. I'm very lucky not to have to wait for results this time. It's only because my RO is going away & she wants to see if see has to book me for rads before she goes. Nothing to do with me & my needs, it's only about her schedule. I don't feel as snarky about it as that sounded, it's just the reality.

    Waving back Patty!

Lynne, I do so hope that your DH improves & is able to go home soon.

Annie, Good luck on your scan. Nice to have your daughter back. No matter how old, still your child & you worry.

Wendy, GL to you too! How do you get a PET scan here in BC? I was told that they didn't do them here... I will have to keep that in mind if I ever need one, I can go to Vancouver. Do you have them at VGH or?

MomATT, Hope you can have some fun at the party, I agree with the small talk thing! And like Annie said, Dani's TM's moving in the right direction. Yay!

Milaandra, I eat paleo - ish, not quite keto. I feel so much better eating this way, one thing I was doing wrong was eating too much protein & not enough fat, once I wrapped my head around that I did much better.

Babs, Deanna, Chelle, Bosco, LovesM, Kathryn , Cristina, oh shoot, I know I forgetting some names here, but know that I hold all of you dear. I'll post tomorrow the results. Cheers, Dee

Ketogenics is low carb, moderate protein and high fat. There are on-line calculators for figuring out your macros based on your size and whether you want to lose weight or maintain. As I live in the UK now, our meat and dairy is much cleaner and I have easy access to grass fed beef and dairy, so that's a bonus.

The premise behind this being anti-cancer is that, according to the experts, a normal healthy cell can thrive on either glucose or ketones. But the mutated mitochondria of a cancer cell can only use glucose. Therefore, if we limit our dietary glucose (is carbohydrates) and fuel our bodies with ketones from burning fat, then we starve the cancer cells which are incapable of adapting. It makes sense based on the way PET scans reportedly work.

It's been a long time since high school biology!

Dee really I'm pretty darn sure it's a pet scan I'm getting yup checked the form it's supposed to take two and a half hours and I'm going it at the cancer hospital on tenth. I wasn't keen on getting one because of the high levels of radiation but these are the pics my onc wants. Nope checked with my hubby he was with me I'm not crazy? So who told you we don't do them in BC? Weird..

    Good morning all!

Just got off the phone with RO. They aren't seeing anything related to BC in my hip. The radiologist called it soft tissue calcification, which in reading isn't uncommon with BC. That an injury to the breast can cause the fatty tissue to die & become calcium deposits. Interesting, painful but interesting. The radiologist also said that everything in my hip & pelvic area is "very, very stable" ... his words. Almost scared to write it down as I always seem to get blind sided shortly after.

The RO also indicated that because of where I had my initial rounds of radiation it is indeed possible to have had scatter radiation to my thyroid & she is going to order some blood work for me. She said that this is a not uncommon late SE of radiation & that having it show up 5 1/2 years later is very common.

Wendy, I wonder if it's just Island Health that doesn't do them. Maybe they don't have a machine? That's why I was interested if you were getting it in Vancouver. MO told me no PET scans, mind you this was 6 years ago I asked. Maybe just for me?? I don't know! :) Thanks for checking on it. I will ask again in May when I see her.

A painfree day is my wish for all. Off to play in some dirt! Cheers, Dee

Dee, I'm so happy your scan is ( very very ) stable and that you were able to see your RO right away. YAY!!! Good that your RO is following up with blood work etc. I too have thyroid issues from scatter radiation and am on hold until next scan. I hear more and more women with bc having trouble with their thyroids. Has to be a connection. Anyway enjoy playing in the dirt....dirt therapy!
