Teka- I love it. I will remember to use that one on some of the "challenging types" at my client site this week!

Good morning friends. New Mexico has had snow every day this week so far. Flurries falling again this morning too!

Went out to a very quiet world this morning and noticed no birds around, even at the feeder. That usually signals there may be a bird of prey around. I looked up to the neighbors cottonwood, and spotted this bird high up. Went in to get my good camera, and got this zoomed in photo before she flew away. A female american kestrel, I think.

Our last house was on an acre of trees, we had a hawk nesting in one but always lots of birds around. We also had a lot of Mississippi kites. Easy to spot with thei crescent shape in flight. Sure miss my woodpeckers.

TEka - you are lovely, have been ok til today then hitting a low and stomach churning, no idea why......how is everyone on this thread doing?

Lily- I had some weird stomach stuff this week. GI track does not work as well as it used to, especially after big abdominal surgery a few years ago. Lots of stomach bugs going around here in the states right now. Hoping you feel better!

I am doing well, started a new contract and happy about that. Glad we are into a new year. Hoping it to be good for all.

Mags- I love woodpeckers too. I hear one in the back yard in the trees in the summer months. Lots of them here in NM.

Teka- the hawks here come and take out pigeons all the time. Sometimes they leave the remnants in the yard (ick). Cats and birds of prey around the feeder area often in the winter months!

Mommy- you will do great! Hopefully you can get topic you enjoy speaking about!

Me too. Not really comfortable about speaking in front of a crowd. If I can pick at least one topic, I'll do it on my experience in the not-so-wonderful world of BC!

Mommy- as gabby a girl as I have always been, public speaking used to terrify me. I remember my public speaking class in college (called a "speech class" back in the 1970's) and was terrified. I remember talking about the subject of "black holes" and whether they truly existed or not? Could I have picked a harder topic? Probably not, but I was taking astronomy at the time too, so it fed my subject ideas.

Like everything else in life, the more you do it, the easier it gets!

My mom gave me a bit of advice that my daddy gave her when they were first married and she was shy around new people, it made me howl! She told me "to imagine everyone in the room is naked and covered in paint!"

Bowie´s biographer commented that he was very spiritual and psychic, and then she said that people die within 3 weeks of their birthday, as he did, has anyone found this to be true of relatives etc?

Only with my step-grandmother. She died 3 weeks from her 70th birthday.

My dad was part of the German occupation in Normandy when the Allies landed. He died on June 6, the anniversary of D-Day. He was 94 with no urgent medical problems. Just died in his sleep that morning. We all said, That's incredible, he really was an old soldier.

My brother died 2 weeks after his 40th birthday. I had a 2nd or 3rd cousin two generations ahead that made it to her 100th birthday and died shortly after.

David Bowie was definitely an enlightened soul. He was never afraid to be who he was, with his music, the way he dressed, etc.

Splitbean- that story about your dad is amazing.

My dad was a musician. You would have found him interesting, Jazzy. He was a high school music teacher and his method was to evaluate all the new students, pick out the ones with talent and desire, and develop them into stars. His musical stage productions were nothing less than stunning. All the other kids, he was so hard on them that they dropped music as fast as they could.

Mom's birthday was July, she died in February. Dad's birthday was August, he died in December. But maybe I have a weird family.

Splitbean- your dad sounded like an amazing person. Never met a music person I did not like! What a neat job he had!

Mags- my mother and father did not die anywhere near to their birthdays. Some seem to and others don't?

I had another experience with my Daddy, he was an August baby but died in Jan. the year he would have turned 40. If he was alive today he would have been 76.
