Hi - I am new to this group - but I love being a Hermit! I think what this has done for me is to make me more upfront - is that one word???? I just feel like if I can't say something now - then when? Oh - this is so off topic - but I bought myself a jewelry cleaner - like I have sooooooooo much jewelry - anyway... I have my wedding ring and another ring from DH and it was cheap off Amazon - it makes such a difference - who knew? I feel like I'm newly engaged!!! It's the little things - right? I live in the San Francisco area and it was beautiful today - and life felt good. Happy Sunday tomorrow~

Hi cvmarilyn welcome--I hope u enjoy it here the ladies here are so nice.
Markat I love that idea, and u should stick to it. There are so many possibilities open for u and if that's what u want go for it. Try and get a job at a college and u can go for free. Just a thought.
Teka those stage IV posts can be tough, I don't go on them I just go on a few now and mostly are fun, of course we talk about cancer, but that's not the main topic. LOL

Welcome cvmarilyn.
Teka, I looked for the thread you mentioned just after you wrote the post last night and I couldn't find it?? I have only been on a stage IV thread once and it was to try to find out about a girl on my sx thread who had sx the same day as me. A few months later she was dx mets to lungs. I had not seen her post in a while and someone told me she had passed and I wanted to see for myself. (I just read, did not post.) At the time, we weren't even a year out from sx. It was true and I was very sad. However, I believe she died of a broken heart not from bc. She had lost her husband to cancer and was not coping. They were both so young. May they rest in peace side by side.
Markat, what a wonderful career! I was a Rehab Therapy Tech and worked with all 3 disciplines; Speech Therapy, Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy. I knew 3 SLPs and they all were so passionate about their chosen field. They were the kindest, most caring people! Really a joy to work with. I loved that job and really miss it!!! It is the one where the tech positions were eliminated by the therapy company back in Nov, because of Obamacare-Medicare cuts. There will always be a need for SLPs and many avenues for work. When the time is right, you will know, and I wish you great success!!
Jazzy, I have been to the Santa Fe area several time and really, really liked it! Are you close to there?
Hello and Happy Sunday to all Hermits!

Fl so sorry to hear about u'r friend--it's always sad.
See Markat FL said it better than I did, but it's all good. and knowing u for a while now I know u r so so kind.
You know I'm on just a few threads--finally found my space and I'v met some wonderful people on these threads and it is so my pleasure--I got in all the good threads and not so mny and I'm sure there are more nice people too.But let's face it some I stay away from--I don't want people to get upse.

Welcome Cvmarilyn! We venture off topic a lot. So no worries there! I never realized how filthy my rings were until one of my friends had a cleaning cloth and cleaned it for me. Sparkling rings can instantly boost your mood! My engagement ring is an antique looking/double band kind of thing with little diamonds all over then a small actual main diamond. The band and cut make it look way bigger, lol. DH picked it out alone so it is really special to me. The bigger band and stuff looks good because I have huge sausage fingers. A delicate little solitary would probably look really weird ;-)
Hi FL! You are so right. I'm just intimidated by the whole being 31 and going back thing. The school closest to me is tucked away in a beautiful little college town with mostly traditional 18-24yo. Very conservative, and of course the most expensive state university in Ohio. The University of Cincinnati isn't much farther away and also has a great program. What really scared me the last time was that most graduate programs only accept 20ish students each year. So if I didn't make it in to either school, I would either have to wait until I did or relocate, which isn't an option with my family
Camille you're so sweet! I actually read that thread. I see nothing wrong with having a separate section for patients and caregivers. I think if I were posting for my mom or spouse I would probably make two separate accounts and post what my mom said then use the other sections to ask my questions.0 -
Markat, Do you know how many students apply to the program each year at each school? Would you be able to find out what criteria is weighted the heaviest when they are selecting the students for the masters program? GPA in certain classes? Certain types of papers? Exposure to the field? Voluteer hours in related area of study? If you could find that out it would help give you a focus point to start with. Also, which school might offer more of the studies online, that would help with your commute situation.

Hi ladies: happy Sunday! Little achey, little slo mo today, but otherwise doing fine. Making it an easy morning. It's cold here again, but the wind is gone.
Teka- sorry to hear about the negative stuff on the Stage IV posts. I read through a couple threads before joining this one and more recently, an Arimidex thread. I have seen some nasty stuff sometimes on various threads, women arguing with each other. Not everybody knows how to play nice. We are here for you, in all our various stages!
CV- welcome! I can totally relate on being happy about simple things like having pretty clean jewelry! I have been getting some stuff purged from my house lately like papers to be shredded last weekend, some clothing donations to my favorite charity just yesterday that have been in my car for months. Just having something completed or looking better feels very good these days.
I met with a personal trainer at the gym I rejoined last week. This is where I have started again with my swimming. I told her my story, turns out she has also had cancer in the past too. It changed her life and now she is a body builder. She understands my need to get my fitness back but to ease into this. We will do some work together in a few more weeks. Don't worry, not going for body builder physique (LOL!)
Hmm, getting those questions now that I knew would be coming post radiation treatment. You know those "so are you done now and is everything back to normal?" I work to keep my commitment to myself not to over explain or try to make people get it. People want people back the way they were, but we are all different after this journey, that sort of has no real end to it. Fortunately, I have enough other people that don't ask those questions and do get it. Everyone just has to get used to the new me, as I get used to the new normal, I suppose.
I turn 53 on tuesday, feeling grateful just to make it to another birthday this year....

Dear plucked chicken: I feel like I have aged 10 years in the past six months. Kind of feeling featherless too!

a plucked chicken, too funny....
I will check out the topics, I have been and click on something if I feel like reading it...
Happy early birthday Jazzy!!!
HUGS to the rest of the hermits.....

Blondie-thank you for the birthday wishes. I hope you are feeling better?

markat--if it's your dream, go for it! You might google your state's dept of ed. There are alternative certification programs in many states, and you could avoid lots of college hours if that's the case... Some states even give "life credit" for things like motherhood and other careers that involve valuable skills teachers need. Or... if you go the master's route, or bachelor's... you know all hermits will be cheering you on and attending your graduation in our hearts!!
cvmarily--you're right! It's often the little things that keep us sane. Sparkle on!
teka--I was new, new to this bc mess, and was speared on a different group... really mean spirited and unkind words (when I felt most vulnerable). That's one of the reasons I feel so blessed to be among you ladies here. The humor and patience and day-to-day sharings. Everyone has been patient and kind and playful and ... well, you know. I fell into this nest by accident. The "hermit" in the title attracted me, I guess. So I hope negative words will always be rare when headed your way. There. A wordy hug to an unwordy teka.
May Monday bring good weeks of feeling better, a few true laughs, and moments with someone you love.

Omgosh Skittle I can't even imagine how or why that would happen to you!!! I remember when you joined us, and so glad you did!! SLPs in Ohio have to have masters+ degrees. I think I could take a test to become a teacher's aide. But I honestly need to think my future...now that I can lol.
FL those are good questions. I quit after my first Junior semester (so dumb i'd like to go back and smack myself). My class was huge! But a lot of those people were looking at other Universities to finish their degrees. Honestly the audiology part was the hardest. SLP is lumped in with the Audiology undergraduate coursework and that was tough. Oh and anatomy, and mean old professors...but that's a whole other topic.
Jazzy I hope you have a wonderful birthday! Of course you're cured now, didn't you get the memo Just jump back into life like nothing happened!
Teka, camille, bgirl, whaevah, curve, blondie, and all the rest, have a great night!
Skittle are you back to work tomorrow? My girls are off but I have to work (hopefully I have a snowday!). One more week for me!0 -
Hi Markat- thanks for the reminder. I feel a bit more normalcy returning as time goes on. I am going to my favorite hot springs next weekend for a belated birthday get away and time for restoration. Can't wait!
Wishing everyone a good week!

Sorry to everyone for being MIA, in a bit of a funk. Too much stuff to comment on, but welcome to new people and thanks to the rest of you for thinking about me even if I haven't been on.
My daughter (the one we moved 8 hrs away) is currently doing a placement in SLP, two months before was doing an audiology placement. Finding it interesting. I think she wants to do her masters in Audiology, doing a course right now where she learns how to do testing and work with SLPs or audiologists to implement treatment and fit hearing aids. Has found her passion, so I do understand MK.
Hope everyone has a great week.

Mark you can do it.....there ya go...bgirl's daughter is doing it also...
Jazzy I am so excited for you to be going away, you deserve it, that is what I miss the most about this stupid disease and not being able to work, it traveling...haven't been able to do it, cause can't afford it...can't wait to hear about it...
am feeling fine I guess, the normal eyes watering and nauseous, but there as I say always someone worse off them me...I can deal with it...
Happy Sunday night and hopefully a good week for all of us....

Blondie- I am so sorry you are not feeling well. Hoping tomorrow is better for you. Keeping you in my thoughts for a better week. How many more chemo treatments do you have left?
Feel better and let us know how you are doing this week?
Blessings to all the other hermits here who face another week treatments, doctors apts, and maybe a nice Easter holiday and Passover holidays this week too.

Bgirl great to see you on here! Miss you! That's awesome about your daughter! I hope everything else is going good for you and the pain is staying under control.
Jazzy, I hope you know I was being sarcastic Making fun of what everyone expects. It sure would be nice if it were true!
Blondie, sorry about the side effects I miss traveling too. We went on a basically free vacation when I was still getting chemo. I was honestly pretty miserable but couldn't pass up the opportunity for the kids.
Hugs Camille! Hope you are feeling good today.
I have a snowday! So just a 3 day pay week for me, boo! But I'm happy to home with the girls.0 -
MUGA on Tuesday and Herceptin infusion on Friday - today is a work holiday (Cesar Chavez day) - so that leaves only two days of having to go to work this week - yay. LoL
0 -
Jinkala, nice short week! Hope your MUGA goes well!
Teka, I have this thread and a couple others that have dropped off marked as my favorites. That way I'm notified with new posts when I log on. I don't even have to look at active topics if I don't want to. Hope your day is going good hugs!!
I'm such a lazy hermit. It's amazing how one can appear busy by walking around in circles in the house without really getting anything accomplished.0 -
I stay away from most of the stuff on here. This thread and my tamox SE group. The other group I was part of moved to Facebook, so I keep up with them there.
Mostly come on here to keep up with all of you!

checking in...hope everyone is alright!!!

Blondie I hope u'r feeling better now (((HUGS)))
Jinkala and hope the MUGA goes well and u have a short week for work-wow I could never have worked going thru all this.
Marka it snowed that much for the school to close? we were lucky here just a dusting and not so cold either.
I know when I started on these boards I went to chat room but my brain couldn't keep up with it, it went so fast, by the time I typed anything they were on 2 more subjects. But they were all so nice, had fun with them. But when I came to the boards I started only liking a few--to much sadness and then argueing in the midst of all this sad I didn't get it. So I wasn't going to stay, then I found a couple that I liked so now I have like 5 that I go to and no drama, and I enjoy everyone on them and of course this is one--It's safe and I'm comfortable too.

Wow. Amazing to hear of all the feedback on hurt feelings and negative "members." You'd think we'd ALL have a tenderness and understanding that each has been through a special personal little piece of hell, and build each other up without question. So odd that there has to be a scramble to find sanctuary. Do the moderators ever boot people off for not playing fair... or figuratively running with scissors? I sometimes wonder if we should each sit down with a little pot of playdoh, a soft pillow, a small basket of jelly beans, and Mr. Rogers in the background, just for a while. Somehow pull back a little innocence and gentle heartedness. (oops. I'll get off my soapbox now. )
Markat... I admire your looking forward! You are such a strong mom and have your act together, you can get that degree if it's what you want. I went for my master's at 49 and never regretted it. (never, ever thought I'd teach. I hated school when I was younger.)
bgirl... that funk is hard to emerge from. I hope you're feeling better.
Here's hoping se's are fewer, trips are more frequent, and spring finally gets here!
Hugs to each.

Teka--u'r funny.
There used to be a lady i worked with and when she cashiered (we called people up) and when they woud just come up--in a very stern voice she'd say so loudly back away from the window--I t would crack me up every time. She was so quiet all the time--unless they came to the window to soon. LOL

Oh Real funny Teka that where I worked hahahaha

What is the drama on the threads a? I must have missed it apart from the stage 4 debacle.......
I am becoming moré of a hermit as time passes.........0 -
Hi Lily--I don't read the other threads anymore but when I did, there were disagreements and some people would just go after other people about their opinions or how they looked at life--it could be very touchy sometimes and people would report people to the moderators??? I really never understood all that except for personalities clashing I guess.
It's quiet here and in a few other threads, I don't like drams in my life and when I come here I'm interested in what's going on with everyone not who can argue with who, like the lighter side of all this misery. LOL

Hi hermits! I like being part of this thread because the women here are very supportive and I have never really felt much drama. I personally hate drama stuff, and try to keep those people far away from me in life, no matter what the venue is. Thank you for all being so supportive and kind here.
Markat-yes, I am being sarcastic about some of the comments. When people ask if you are all better yet, it's like you had the flu, not just gone through cancer treatment. I know I will feel fatigued and will be moving at a slower pace for awhile.
Started off the day yesterday good, but lost energy in the afternoon. Felt a bit mentally fuzzy too. I think it could be the Arimidex, so I continue to adjust and let my body settle into this. Went over my latest dexa scan with the doctors office and she said I should probably have annual scans to be sure the meds don't make the osteopenia any worse.
Hope everyone is hanging in there. Snow still coming in some areas despite it being spring now.
