That should be reprinted every October first.

    Thanks, Meow, for sharing that.

i am just not in the mood to sit here on a Saturday when I would like to see Miss State beat Auburn…but as I recuperate from another Fucktobker surgery (rotator cuff in sling for 8 weeks) I realize that MSU thinks it will improve my "awareness; search for a cure?" or better yet fix dinner for me and my husband tonight by wearing yet another shade of PINK all over the place. Okay MSU you are on your own … Auburn must not have gotten the memo.

Komen is in hot water again.  Or still? Some company that makes drill bits for fracking had them painted pink.  Then is going to donate 100k to Komen.  Article also said Brinker was supposed to step down 10 months ago, hasn't, and is still being paid over 600k a year.

Komen sent my DH return address labels with a big pink ribbon along with some other pink stickers about Komen (I guess to put on the back?). I was disgusted. Into the trash. Wasting money on that kind of thing is one of the reasons I won't donate to them ever.

at DD's former high school, football coach's wife passed away from BC a couple of years ago. The school and community rallied around the family for support. Really irritates me that as a sign of support now, they go all out with the pink stuff during October, football team, pep squad, school in general. Would love to write a nice letter suggesting next year they take the money they would have spent and use it towards helping defray cost of medical treatment, provide meals or in some way help some of the families (or family) going through active BC (like pay a month of mortgage). Something more practical.

Wren, I got some of those address stickers in the mail this week too, addressed to the former resident. (I've been here 11 years!!)    Right in the trash.

I see some of the Notre Dame players are wearing pink gloves.  Really, REALLY!  I wish the money spent on the pinkwashing would just be donated to helping women and their families get through dx and tx.

OH yeah, I got a letter today from my BS's office inviting me to walk in the Susan G Komen race/walk next weekend with the practice's team in Dallas. My BS is the team captain and the staff will all be there.  I have mixed feelings on this for different reasons. I feel honored that they asked me to participate, but Komen has gotten such a bad rap I am surprised they are doing it. Maybe it's the bigger picture they are looking at. I was also surprised by how much it cost to register for the dang thing. $35!!

My breast care center has been part of the Susan Komen BC awareness campaign where they have a dinner (free) and discuss a topic (last year the team discussed future trends in BC care). Am pleased to find out they had decided to forego the October thing and will continue to honor those who are currently going through or who have completed BC tx at a special dinner in the spring.

I received a solicitation, along with the address labels earlier in the week. First I called and asked to be removed from their mailing list and then I put it all in the recycling bin. The timing couldn't have been more aggravating.

Whenever I get an unwelcome solicitation from any organization, there is typically a postage paid envelope for your convenience in making a donation. Instead of just trashing the stuff, I put it all in that envelope and send it back. They'll take you off their mailing list soon enough.

    Excellent idea.

I was watching my college team last night, University of FL,  and they were wearing pink mouthgards, and pink socks and pink armbands.  Never heard WHY there were doing it,,, but UGH!!   **barf**

i am relatively new here but even before dx, hated the Focktober stuff and Komen.

Saw my old boss last week, who gushed at "how great you look, no one would even know!"   It pissed me off. Looks are deceiving, it was week three after a chemo, and i luckily felt okay. Uhm, still BALD under the wig, still full o' cancer, still facing mutilation, still facing rads, then toxic meds forever. Yeah, if I happen to be LUCKY to get through all of that. Let us not mention potential  other cancers from chemo, thyroid, and premature menopause.  I am so releived that you find me not too unsightly at this particular moment.  Why dont you come over next week, and see the real deal?  Yes!  No one would ever guess!  oh yeah, it will likely return with vengeance in a few years and get me regardless of all these fun and wonderful interventions.

I have had many people mention THE WALK in my presence, asking if I were going. UHM! NO. I can barely freakin walk to my own bathroom some days.  Komen by the way has not called me once to ask how I am feeling.....

So I am with you ladies, i barely can restrain myself from shouting curses at the rah rahs.

Despite criticisms of the American Cancer Society, they did call me several times to ask how I am and review a range of services they can offer me.  Although most of the services were not needed, I did appreciate the free make over.  It really felt good that they called not just one time but several times to check on me.

I have to say that the American Cancer Society here in Mesa AZ has been very proactive and helpful. They offer many things from rides to appointments to free wigs to makeovers...they even came into the chemo suite and offered conversation and scarves . They were never pushy and never asked for a donation. I am usually very skeptical of large charities and I have little respect for many of them, especially Komen. I have however, seen what ACS does on a personal level and when I can afford to I will donate to them....

Well, I may be a traitor, but I am going to let Komen buy me lunch!!! Happy

I got an invitation in the mail from one of our local TV stations, inviting me and any other BC survivors I know, to a free luncheon to honor us. Tickets are free for survivors, $24 for "guests".... luckily (or sadly) I know plenty of survivors.

It will be held at a nice banquet facility, and is sponsored jointly by the TV station and the local Komen organization. Last year, thanks to all the hoopla over the national criticism, they cancelled the banquet.

I still think National Komen sucks. But our local organization? I ADORE the director. She is now going through her second - and most difficult - struggle with BC. When I was dx'd, I called her office and left a message. She called me at 9:00 on a Friday night, saying she was flying out the next morning, but that she couldn't let me go one more day without some support and some answers. She stayed on the phone with me for an hour.

So - saving up my appetite for the banquet.... maybe I'll even take some Ziploc bags in my big purse!!!!!
