Miss mcook -
You are absolutely right about eating WHAT you can during times of acute disease or discomfort. I am the most liberal nutritionist on Earth but will always try to share my knowledge for the good of the group and to help people be more successful with food. Happy training and all the best to you and us ALL!

Hello cm ( Everytime I try and type you screen name auto correct changes it) sorry did not mean to sound that I was not appreciative for the advice. I was just typing my feelings, in that I need to forgive myself as I should know better:) we can all learn from other here and their expertise:) I hope someone on here is a physiologist and wants to take my case on
Thank you!0 -
welcome cmbernardi and thanks for the advice/tips. Gonna try that 40 gs of fat and no more.... remember my Mum going on a low fat diet years ago and she did really well on it.
mcook... will be in your pockets tomorrow for your first training session - hope I dont weigh you down too much. I bet your weight starts dropping off now. Any news on your planned route - just thinking of road trips !!
We should stop beating ourselves up over every little imperfection we can find with ourselves. I am truly going to focus on just being happy about waking up alive in the morning... hopefully the rest will come with it. I am really tired of worrying about my muffin tops/flabby thighs.... fuck we are alive and for that alone we should be grateful... amen - enough preaching - that is how I feel now.
Well almost home time for me... 15 minutes to go - woo hoo !! Pissing down rain here.

Tazzy - AMEN! I feel exactly the same way! Enough with the guilty feelings. Tomorrow night we're going to see the Buddy Holly Story with good friends. Will have a nice dinner before the time, and then looking forward to good old fifties rock and roll - yeah! Can't wait! Life is too short to waste time agonizing over nonsense. We're waiting for the rain here too - supposed to get 150 mm in the next 24 hours. Fortunately we have a boat - lol.
Mcook, I will do a special dance on my kitchen island tonight in honor of you. Good wishes for the start of your training program tomorrow - you are an inspiration for us all! I'm going to start training for a 5 km 'marathon' . . . small steps!

Go you, MCook! I started running 7 years ago and ran my first marathon - with my daughters:-) 18 months ago. You put one foot in front of the other and - a little at a time - you work up to running a marathon! I've signed up for two half-marathons this summer and it feels great to be back to training.

Ireland, mistake or not I think you may have started a purple hair trend!!!
cmbernardi, that's really great advice. I will use it when I'm finished enjoying food again lol ;-) a little too much perhaps!! As mcook and Tazzy said we beat ourselves up way too much, complaining about weight, smoking, drinking etc. as much as these are all unhealthy for us, so is the stress we put in ourselves about them. For many of us we have been on a roller coaster thru hell for a long time, we need to chill out and accept our new selves!!! I quit smoking only because my PS/BS said no reconstruction if I didn't. I truly enjoyed it and have had the odd one since. I don't feel guilty. I drink regularly with dinner or with friends, maybe a little too often but I'm ok with it considering what I've been thru. I don't feel guilty. I also exercise regularly, try to eat healthy and relax when I can. I enjoy my chocolate and potato chips too :-) I hate the weight that won't go away but I figure right now likely isn't the time to worry about it. When I'm serious about getting down in size again I will!!!
Dancing, now that is a plan!!! Playing my music loud!!!!0 -
Eeek.....youngest has just woken, recreated that scene from the exorcist...(not the head spinning!), and is now snoring beside me! I meanwhile stink of dettol and am wide awake!!!joy.....I know TMI....but where else am i gonna go!!! Shianne...maybe i should keep my purple hair!!!lol

I get very concerned when I see people recommending low-fat diets to cancer patients. Please read the following articles before so severely restricting your fat intake. A physician (my cousin) sent these links to me.
http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/778613
"The commonplace advice to avoid dietary fat is not a good recommendation to give cancer patients. "They should eat a lot of fat and avoid sugar," Dr. Freedland noted."
"We Need a Sea Change to Solve the Obesity Crisis — Stephanie Seneff, Senior Research Scientist, MIT, Cambridge, MA, USA.
1 Introduction— The obesity epidemic will never be solved until we openly admit that we have made a huge mistake in nutritional advice as a consequence of the widely disseminated message to reduce dietary fat and cholesterol. Until we own up to the fact that cholesterol and fat are not the problem, our population will simply grow fatter and fatter.
& there's a longer one about carb restriction in treatment and prevention of cancer here: http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/757713
If the links give you any trouble, just google "medscape calorie restriction cancer" and you'll get the articles. It may be a niche thing but we are now in a special niche, aren't we?

Shianne & liefie... hear, hear. Let us this week cut ourselves some slack, drink, dance and be merry and to hell with it.
I say : NO WEIGH IN TOMORROW - screw it !! Next week will be here soon enough.
Got my 70's funk on, DH looked at me as though I was mental, watching me dance around the kitchen... I told him its for mcook... he just laughed and said 'well you're certainly doing the dance like no one can see you saying'.... loving it - and boy what calories this must be burning.
Off to do dinner and dance.
Hugs to all you lovely wonderful ladies. Goodnight, sleep well, love you all xxx

mcook- Spend it with us!!!! Did you have a good time while you were out? We are always here for you. I'm coming up on my 1 yr and really want to just celebrate the fact that I beat this damn disease as of my scan last year. i think i'm going to insist on a scan this year just to make sure all is well.
Infusion #2 tomorrow at 1100 really nervous about them finding a vein. Although, I am not bruised after yesterday's infusion.
Ramols- how are you feeling with your veins today?

Ireland, I hope your little one feels better soon and you get some sleep. YAY, PURPLE HAIR!!!
Cheers Tazzy!!! *gets up on table* anyone still dancing??
Happy anniversary mcook!!! Cheers to you too!!! You are so right, no one else gets it. My door is always open as long as you don't mind my mess either lol. Wine? Did someone say wine???0 -
mcook - sending celebration hugs your way!
chrisrenee - glad your veins are not bruised. I'm black and blue and lumpy and sore - but at least i have 3 weeks to recup before they have to hunt for a vein again. Good luck tomorrow! My chemo nurses said lots of fluid and salty foods, along with some minor weight lifting and moisturizing the skin. I knew the first two, but the last two are new ones to me!
Love and hugs to all. Nighty night!

ramols- I'm seriously thinking about getting a pic-line to save my one vein from being overused. Does that sound bad? I'd rather be prepared than to be screwed in the end. Glad you have 3 weeks in between though. I've been guzzling water so much i have to pee all the time. We'll see how it goes tomorrow with getting a vein.

mcook: I always say "a clean house is the sign of a wasted life". Mine is clean on the day I do it... after that it is what it is.
Chrisrenee: in your pockets for tomorrow. Good luck for the veins.
(((ramols)))
Hi Scorchy.
Hello to everyone I've missed. Sorry but absolutely knackered after dancing. Only stopped for dinner and now to watch Coronation St.... longest running soap in the UK which I have watched since I was about 5 and love the fact its here in Canada !
My new mantra is "everything in moderation" and sometimes a bit more
Nite ladies ! Yep we sure do have to get together - somehow, somewhere.

Also forgot to ask the same question as chrisrenee: WHERE ARE YOU SCOTTIE ! Let us know how this week went.

Ramols, I just read on another thread today about somebody whose veins look like yours. She started putting on Bio-oil, and it helps a lot. I don't know this product, but you'll probably get it at a pharmacy.
Mcook, you are welcome at my place any time. So relieved I would not have to worry about cleaning and tidying - phew! Here's wine too.
Scottiee, where are you? Hope you and DS are both okay!

Scorchy: just ready your blog on Tamoxifen.. ha ha ha ha ha !!

@ mcook301 - No worries about what you say or feel. My feelings are not hurt very easily. And ladies, PLEASE be sure that lowering your fat is the right thing to do for YOU. Another warrior posted some good links to read about diet and certainly made the point correctly that sugar is no angle in the diet either. Moderation is the key. Stay safe and well all!

Scorchy - I LOVE your letter to Tamoxifen! Reminds me about a great quote I heard yesterday. It's attributed to Lou Holtz, retired college football coach: "Life is 10 percent what happens to you and ninety percent how you respond to it.”
You've clearly responded like a champ! Go you!

Hi you beautiful ladies....I'm here......been off work since Tuesday...chest and trachea
infection, so came home with script for antibiotics...how lucky am I....the S/E for this
antibiotic is nausea and diarrhea, which I get from my Letrozole also....so spending a lot of time in the bathroom plus taking gravol, which knocks me out.
My DS had his appt yesterday. They gave him a stress test and an ultrasound. The irregularity is still showing up so they want him to wear a monitor for 48 hrs.!!!!!! Stay tuned for that one.
Will try to catch up over the weekend. Love you all.
Tazzy....don't think that piece of cheesecake went unnoticed...👀 I'm sick but there's nothing wrong with my eyes.....lol
Can't believe I'm saying this, oh God, I must be really ill, but it sounds to me that we all
need a piece of that cheesecake and a nice glass of wine to wash it down.....ok, it's official, I'm ill .....my fever made me say that..😱
PS.....thank you gals for worrying about me.....❤❤❤0 -
Shari: yay on last chemo ... In your pockets for the day/tests.
Scottie: prayers for your son; that it doesn't require any treatment that's too invasive. And I hope YOU heal up quickly.
Ladies; all your drinking is making me super jealous. I do miss my wine. *sigh*
Went to my MO yesterday. No problem with taking my blood... But its amazing to think i have adjusted back to NOT doing that every damn week. She said my hemoglobin is low, mist likely from such a heavy period. Is putting me on iron. Asked for thyroid check too/and of course they run the standard tumor trace test. Results today and she will only call if there is an issue.
She said my weight is going in the right direction. 5 lbs in 2 1/2 months. She also said the tamoxifen is the culprit of the lack of results from all my labor; and I SHOULD EXERCISE TEICE AS MUCH!! I told her FUCK THAT! I don't have TWO HOURS A FUCKING DAY! Argh!
So off to work now, then my 12 step mtg tonight while you all kick back with a glass of wine. xxoo0 -
Yay!!!! SHARI!!!!! Make room in a pocket for me, I'm coming too!!!! I'm so happy for you girl, and keep repeating " no cancer, complete response"
Cm... That's the key, moderation. Sometimes that's also the hardest part like with chocolate!!!! Lol hehehe
Scottie I hope you feel better soon, none of those SE are very nice :-( and keeping fingers and toes crossed for your son!!
Congrats Juneau on the right direction!! And I can't believe your dr told you twice as much exercise!! I think if you've managed a start, the proper advice would have been keep up the good work :-)
On a lighter note, I was watering my plants in my bay window last night and lo and behold, my Christmas Cactus is blooming!!! WTH? Moving down the line, my potted tulips are sprouting??? Is it a sign of a longer winter, or that spring is coming?!?!0
