    Granwe, thinking of you!!!

As I was saying, I think the general consensus is, we all just can't give a sh!t anymore :)

Bobogirl, I love xmas everything, but ONLY after Thanksgiving!!! I have neighbors with their d@mn lights on already.. I want the town to fine them as they would be if they put out their trash too early!! Once next Friday hits, I will be in Xmas mode.. I already told Joe I want to get the tree on Friday and by the weekend the xmas music will be blaring as we decorate the tree!

Zils, good on you getting takeout! I hope you are all nice and comfy in your pillow palace. I love freshly laundered bedding! What treasures does the baby have in her box? I know it isn't funny at all, but I am laughing over "A bomb went off in my underwear." I sure do hope he doesn't have a virus, you don't need anything additional to deal with.

It might be takeout for us too on the coffee table.. not sure yet!

As to the packing of Christmas boxes, everything is donated! people buy, the boxes are provided, and it also costs $7 per box to mail and all that is also donated, some of the older people that dont care to go shopping give postage money and yes it is very rewarding project, next year I hope to have our gd come with us.

Bobo, what are we going to do with DLLP? Geez, you better tell her you have a whole gaggle, herd, or whatever you call a bunch of boobless women, behind you and are ready to chew her out! I am with you on Christmas everything, turned on our outside tree and lights last night when some gals came to pick me up for Bunco, they thought I was rushing the season! Imagine that! I also love cards, the music the whole ball of wax!! just the kid in me I guess.

Zills, take it easy! dont worry about clean floors right now! A quick sweep is ok !

Just heard on nightly news that insomnia is many times caused my depression, well I never thought I was depressed but my dad suffered from it for many years, but I sure have a heck of a time sleeping the whole nite! What next huh? I did have some energy today tho, cleaned all my cupboards! now tomorrow the dresser drawers get it!

I know quite a few of the gals in the Tamoxifen forum complain of insomnia.. you may have tried it already, but they swear by .... melatonin

I also have a basement full of shi$$ and lots of it, that will be a winter project. Yes have tried melatonin but it gives me terrible headaches, wake up with them when I took it, was bummed about that, but also have heard since that of course it is a hormone and I kinda hate to mess with hormones now. I never did want to mess around with them so I never took premarin or any of the hrt drugs thinking they may cause cancer.. well here I am anyway. The years that HRT was really popular, around our area were the pmu lines, in face the gal that worked for me, she and her husband owned one, now they have been out of business and I believe there is only 1 pmu farm left and that is in Canada, i may be wrong it may be only 1 in the USA. PMU is pregnant mare urine, that is what the hormone estrogen pills were made from. Sounds pretty gross huh? but I am sure you all know about this, we saw the barn the mares were in many times. the PETA people said the horses were mistreated but that is simply not true. They were fed only a certain hay and were watered properly and were inside kept warm in the winters, pee lines had to be in cold area, hence ND and Canada. I am glad they are done with it, but I knew the horses were not mistreated, but didnt like the idea of women taking those pills, but guess they did help many through menopause.

Thanks for the tip of melatonin tho, seems like benedryl works the best but not always either....Devil

I am a little nervous to see myself for the first time after surgery. I was told I will have a binder on for 48 hours, so I am assuming before I go home from the hospital I will see my flatness. I wonder how big my scar will be? Where my drain will be? If the drain will be that uncomfortable or noticeable? My BS or NP has not mentioned anything about prosthesis, but I am assuming not until I go for a follow up appt.

Gt, fully understand how you are feeling, you wont be able to be fitted for prosthesis until around 6 weeks post surgery. Drains are uncomfortable to a point but not unbearable either. size of scar depends, I think each is a bit different. I had a velcro closing binder and was to wear it until drains came out, but dont think I did the full time. I had steri strips over my incision and no bandage at all. I showered before leaving hospital, my drain had a long tube and I wrapped it around my neck to shower, had a post cami to put drain bulbs in their pockets. I was also scared to have drain out, but it did not hurt one little bit. It is a little hard to see our new bodies for sure, but try to think that with all this craziness the cancer has been removed. When is your surgery? refresh my memory. Come to these boards often, so many have just wonderful advice, and everyone has a little bit different experience, but yet so much in common. Good luck.

Ok, will be in your pocket for tomorrow! You will be amazed how well you do!! I was scared out of my wits the night before, I was reading these sites but didnt post yet, sure wish I had written to all then, these boards are my salvation through this ordeal, hope you find it as comforting as I do. Get some rest if possible, and take it easy after mx, try to eat protein to help heal, and take pain meds if you need, this is no time to be a hero, that is what dr. told me, but I really didnt need them, got by with tylenol but I also had the pain block which helped I think. Whenever you are up to it post how you are doing, saying a prayer for you.ThumbsUp

Gtgirl, I'll be in your pocket tomorrow also. The drains are just a long tube with a bulb at the end. They won't show under a loose top or hoody. I put a cloth belt around my waist under all my clothes and pinned the drain bulb to that. I could pull my pants down without disturbing them. In the shower I pinned them to a long shoelace around my neck.

Just don't forget the pillow to put under the seat belt on the ride home. I slept with a small pillow against my chest for a while, just to make sure I wasn't elbowed or something.

I had a bandage rather than a binder, but it was the same idea. Then when I could take it off there were steri strips holding it shut. They stayed until they fell off.

Come back and tell us how it went when you feel up to posting again. ((((HUGS))))

Hi everyone, what a day! I am ready for bed right now.

The garden is all done, with just a bit of sweeping left, green waste has been filled and put outside for pickup tomorrow. I have been running back and forth distributing more cuttings into the other neighbors bins, just to get rid of it all. Someone asked about leaving the leaves on the garden, I wish that were possible, but they are huge ones, and just so many that they never break down, so they just suffocate a lot of the new plants. We found a huge Blue Tongue lizard in the beautiful pile of rocks that I have in the corner waiting to be distributed artistically throughout the garden. We didn't have time today, but perhaps next month.

I brought Lisa home from the Doctor for morning tea with everyone today. We had 9 including Barry the post man. The coffee machine was working overtime, lucky I bought Lemon Tarts and Cupcakes yesterday! I have to get Lisa to a CT scan in town tomorrow at 12.00. I dropped her daughter in town today, and picked up some lunch for Colin and I, It will be a busy one again tomorrow is $5.00 bag day at the big Opp Shop......Yay! One of my girlfriends in Melbourne is an amazing sewer and is making a massive quilt from pure wool sweaters, I have to find another 30 for her to finish the one she is making for her own big Oak Bed. They sell for $750.00 in design shopsShocked She backs it with an alpaca blanket and some kind of organic wadding after all the sweaters are cut into squares and hand sewn together. I am trying to find neutral colors with some cable or pattern on some of them, it is actually harder than you may think, because is all has to be pure wool.

I am still on the hunt for wedding clothes for Bobo's children, but have never had this much trouble finding stuff before. There hasn't been anything that has come close to being good enough! It isn't like I don't have the feelers out, I have put in requests at a dozen Oppies all over the region! I have women looking for suitable outfits, but still nothing!

Now, I have to clear up this Christmas card thing. Obviously, you guys do it in a much more heartfelt way, and I understand that. Over here, it was just a total blowout, we'd receive about 60+, and I'd have to reciprocate, no one ever does the family photo card thing, unless they may put a pic of a new baby or something in the envelope, but it was just a pain, so a group of us decided to just stop doing it. I still have friends living overseas who I send cards to, but it is really a yearly catchup letter in a card. They do the same. It really isn't as "Bah Humbug" as it sounds, we all make a donation to a favorite charity instead.

ldesim, my sentiments exactly! I don' know why I had to get slapped with the nasty sticky note! F them! The only place we have found to be "difficult" since moving here, is the local council. We have an issue with a tree that drops big GumNuts right outside our fence. The council refuses to mow the grassy area around it because the gumnuts may get picked up by the blades and break our windows. The tree also has a lot of rot in it and is extremely messy. I called in the Arborist to check it and he said it should come out, but the guy at the council won't hear of it, so we have to pay a gardener to mow their piece of land, because their tree's gumnuts may break our windows, if they mow it! It is total madness.

Poor Dex can't win at the moment. He took off, out the "doggie door" early this morning barking at someone walking their dog past the fence. I locked the doggie door so he wouldn't bark again, too early for the neighbors. Someone was walking past and he flew over the couch and straight into the locked swing door. He let out a yelp, but seemed to be fine. The gardeners turned up with Nelson, their dog, who comes to play with Dex, they took one look at Dex with his, less than attractive haircut, which I haven't had the time to try to fix, and said "Look at the bump on his head!" and "What happened to his fur?" Very embarrassing! Poor little guy has a bump , scrape and a bruise on his head. I didn't deter him from playing with Nelson, and he got very spoiled with scraps from the table. I saw him test the Doggie Door a couple of times this afternoon!

Dinner time for us, I don't know where the day has gone..chat later..M x

Anyone have suggestions for dairy free appetizers?

Also anyone seen a mitten shaped stocking? Long ago I bought two for me and DH. Stumbled across one in an antique store for boy. Need to find one for the baby. They are regular stocking size 12-18" but in the shape of a mitten.

    Thanks.

How about little toasties? Slice a baguette thinly (or have them slice at bakery), lightly toast, then butter (soy butter, or if not soy, brush with olive oil, and then do toppings. Egg salad with veganaise and a sprig of dill? Hummus and a green olive? Smoked salmon and veganaise with chopped cucumber? Tapenade (olive paste)? Baba ganoush (roasted eggplant)? And then you can arrange the toasties by kind, on little platters.

How about a roasted veg platter? Barefoot contessa does those. Roast quartered veg on 400 until carmelized, then sprinkle with chopped parsley.

How about shrimp cocktail? That's dairy free.

We have these 'pop' biscuits here that are vegan -- you could do pigs in a blanket (with veggie hot dogs or with meat ones), then serve with a spicy ketchup.

How about potato kale balls? My friend makes those: coarse chopped mashed potatoes, finely chopped kale, herbs, olive oil, make little balls with a melon scooper on to a tray and bake at 375. Brush each one with olive oil before baking. You could serve them with a curried mayo (veganaise, curry power, and sriracha).

Catching up on the thread. Idesim, my thoughts exactly! Not easier with female partner for me, anyway. But don't have to deal with a penis, which is a plus for me. OMG. It's always all about the penis, in my considered experience. But I digress.

Birdie, I love your white buffalo story. You are just the best. I need a Boris update badly! What a sweet boy. ND, laughing at your friends teasing you about your Christmas situation! I have not started decorating yet. But only because I do not have time. I did miss that (internal) deadline. Shoot tomorrow -- must be done by then, obviously. Have sore throat.

Idesim, Edward is here while we speak! Trying to get an hour of work done before pickup. You can see how well that's going. Sometimes I just get burned out. Pulled in a million directions at once. It's the story of the American woman. M, totally understand about your Christmas cards. But, Idesim, I am like you -- I like to put them up around the doorways, like my grandma did. I am such a dufus. But you know -- right now it's whatever makes me happy. As a matter of fact, I think it should always be like that. Hi Granwe! What's going on with the Baby Q?

Z, are you having a party? I love appetizers. It's my favorite food group. What about little spanikopita? I am sure I spelled that wrong. phyllo dough brushed will olive oil, filled with a little mix of chopped spinach (you can use frozen; just make sure it's not too moist), onion, garlic, nutmeg. You can put feta in it, but I don't. And then you bake it off. What about baked sweet potato fries with curried mayo? Trader joe does good sweet potato fries. What about little meatballs in the crockpot? My grandma used to put in a pot of jelly -- currant jelly, or red pepper jelly -- and then they were coated in sauce, and she served them with toothpicks.

    M. does the lizard really have a blue tongue? I am chuckling at you running about with your cuttings distributing them amongst the neighbors bins!!! haha!! Barry the Postman! I love that you had cupcakes with your morning tea.. not to be confused with your breaky :)

I love that M has to clarify the xmas cards. Over here M, it is very common for families to do a family photo as their xmas card, which I personally love. We have childless couples and clients as well who send out photos of their pets being as that is their family. I personally have never done that. And like I said previously, the cards I get are part of my xmas decorating which is what my mother and grandmother always did as well... I think they are pretty around the doorway.

Zils, I'll keep my eye out for a mitten stocking.

I'm loving all the app suggestions and they are making me hungry as well. Who would have thought that Bobogirl is an appetizer specialist!! I love appetizers too, order them many times when we are out to eat as my dinner.

What's this about a sore throat? As you would say.. we are on a need to know basis! What are you taking for it.. do you have a fever.. we cannot have you sick with upcoming surgery.

Laughing myself silly over the penis comments... and from the sounds of it, you do have to deal with one.. especially when he's not hitting the toilet :) How is he doing btw? Have they drawn up their xmas lists. I think you mentioned previously you do handmade gifts.

If I asked my postman in for tea, I would probably get the strangest look imaginable. I agree, I think he is a bit in love with her too... nothing more enticing then a woman dragging a drain around :)

Morning all, just back from my OppShop 10th Birthday sale!

Gtgirl, thinking of you. I hope you're feeling OK!

I had so much fun at the sale. Didn't buy anything really for me, but found lots for Colin and Bec, and for Colin's niece, who is having a baby. There were lots of new baby clothes with tags, so I bought all the non sex specific they had! I did find a very old stone Mortar and Pestle, for me, and an ancient wooden stirring thing. I found some books on Tai Chi and Qigong to add to my collection.

I am drooling here at the fantastic suggestions for appetizers. Bobo, you win with so many ideas. I want to come to your house and eat your food!

Please don't tell me you are coming down with something, salt water, or Betadine gargle or . Double dose of Olive Leaf. You can't get sick now.

You crack me up Bobo, not having to deal with a penis!! I remember when Bec and I were in sync with our cycles and it was very volatile with 2 females in the house!

I have to say, our place has become a bit of a "drop in" place at 11am ish. When the gardeners are here once a month I always give them morning Latte and cakes. I have noticed that others seem to arrive at the same time, so we can end up with a great group all sipping coffee and chatting for a while. I love it! To be fair, Barry delivers at that time most days, but he rarely has time to stop. He is actually more friendly with Colin than me. Yes, it's true! They have a great chat every time Barry turns up. Barry also makes Chilli sauces and spreads, and bottles his own olives, which Colin loves. They talk chilli like it is fine wine!

Off to take Lisa to her appointment...catch you later! M x

You are just too funny Bobo, love your comments. Also enjoyed all the appetizer talk, that is what we do for our Bunco Christmas party, need lots of ideas.

Boris update: He's asleep on the chair next to mine. He's really congested and sneezing goop. I'm going to ask about antibiotics tomorrow. He also acts like he doesn't want to jump. He's only 6 so I don't think it would be arthritis. Perhaps his former owner punished him for jumping on tables or counters and he's afraid.

I'm really hungry after hearing about all the appetizers. And I just had dinner. I want to come to Bobo's to eat too.

It's 33F here and we've had the upstairs shut off. I don't think it's more than 34 up there. Our electric blanket is going to have it's work cut out tonight. Maybe we'll add the big comforter.

Spookiesmom Too funny. Yes there is a Michaels in the big city. I'll have to check it out

    Thanks for all your help.

Poor Borris. Maybe he feels too bad to jump. Sounds like an extra blanket for sure.

We usually have apps for New Years at home. Just trying to think what the baby can have. All my favs are loaded with dairy.

Also take to my sisters for Christmas. It's very traditional relish tray, veggie tray, cheese ball and meat biscuits. I thought about deviled eggs and expanding the pickled vegs on the relish tray.

McVitties digestives are a cross between an animal cracker and a graham cracker. They come in plain or topped with chocolate or carmel. They also make hob nobs which have oats in them, either plain or topped in chocolate. Perfect for dunking in tea. I love them all.

We prefer Barry's tea in the green box. Trader Joes has an Irish breakfast blend. English breakfast will do in a pinch and is easier to find in decaf. I haven't heard of Twinnings yunnan. I'll have to see if I can find it.

Yes I know Frys chocolate. DH likes it. I used to love crunchies then Jacobs club. Now who knows. The kids get buttons and smarties. DH loves flake and Turkish delite. There's nothing else like them.

There's a new thread called sleep, sleep, sleep in the just diagnosed section with more suggestions.

DH had to leave and shut off a water leak. He just got back and told me he has a fever. Argh!!! That's what you get for kissing babies! I know he's been extra grumpy so now we know why. It's not me!

Hi everyone! Busy day here, and a wasted afternoon spent on the phone trying to get our replacement cable box to tune in. It was a comedy of errors. I installed the new box as required, and phoned in for them to activate it, they tell me to read out the new box's number, guess where it is, yep, underneath the box that has just been installed into the TV unit. Here I am on my back with a torch in one hand and a magnifying glass in the other trying to pull the box out enough to read the tiny numbers, upside down! It took 3 phone calls, with all the nonsense that goes with these kinds of companies. Geesh they couldn't make it any harder. Anyway, it doesn't work, so I had to pull the whole lot apart again and they told me that it was only a 10% chance that the old box would reinstall. I was ready for a fight, but guess what? It worked, and the fault that caused all this in the first place seems to have resolved itself.....go figure!

Wren I am so sorry poor Boris isn't on top of that infection yet. It is cold where you are. I have started hanging my feet out of bed because Colin likes to keep the Winter Doona on till it really gets hot. I get way too hot.

Zills, I am sorry you've got a sick man in the house. They tend not to be the best patients, so good luck with thatSmile

Bec loves Turkish Delight, and I bought a Flake today! Colin likes it with ice cream! I used to love Smarties!

Great pic Spookiesmom, and so true! You guys don't get much respite between Thanksgiving and Christmas, lots of eating!

ndgirl, the morning tea is a lot of fun!

I'm so happy to have found this thread! So supportive, and a nice place to hang out. I am meeting with my surgeon tomorrow to talk about a mastectomy (instead of following up my lumpectomy with radiation). I am scared to death of either the radiation or the mastectomy. The worst part of the lumpectomy was the drain, so I'm not looking forward to that again...and the thought of the scar and the 'new me' is kind of overwhelming.

I have a little bit of lymphedema and cording going on from the lumpectomy...so I wonder if it will be worse after the mastectomy. Also, how long can I wait for the mastectomy? With Christmas coming, I'd like to wait until the new year. Any thoughts on that?

I was going to have lump and rads until the 2nd unseen tumor showed up. That's when I decided to make sure there wouldn't be any more by having the mx. I was able to avoid the rads, but it wasn't a sure deal until the pathology came back. There's a group of photographs called The Scar Project which shows mastectomy scars after healing. You could look at that to get an idea of what it might look like. I don't know how it might affect lymphedema. You might go to some of the lymphedema threads to see what they think. The resident expert is Binney.

It might be fine to wait until the New Year. One consideration might be if your insurance has a deductible that starts in Jan.

Anyway, welcome to the group. We have a lot of fun talking to each other.
