new and future flat sister, with questions

As far as menopause, I went thru chemo pause this summer. I was 45 but regular as clockwork.
The biggest SE is hot flashes, which is now managed by Effexor. If you haven't already experienced it, your 40s will see dry skin and glasses/bifocals.
My other complaints are irritability and poor sleep. Not sure if it's menopause, cancer, holidays, fatigue. Everyone I've seen say walk, walk, walk.0 -
it's chilly here today, about 62 with a north wind. So the gators will be sprawled out in the sun like tourists. They really are cold blooded reptiles. Still easy to find in winter. I'm in the 2nd most densely populated area in Fl. While I've never seen one waking down my street, they are here. Where Bobo is, drive 20 min and you could be in a swamp. In fact, that is what the college football stadium is called.0 -
Zils and Gramwe, I'm with you both today. Hugs for both of you.
We're supposed to get up to 32°F (0°C) today, though from the dark look of the sky I doubt it. Snow predicted this afternoon and I need to get out and run a couple of errands, so need to get going!0 -
Thanks for the warm welcome and great advice!
Yes, I do have to start dressing warmer. I used to always be hot and I have this little winter city jacket - I wore my ski jacket today and voila! Toasty cosy! Toronto does not get as cold as ND or Manitoba (it's more like Chicago), but still, I need to protect the body I have left.
My drains came out 6 days ago, I was sooo happy to finally be able to shower, shave, wear deodorant, basically not be repugnant! I have started the stretching exercises since then, I think it will take many weeks to get back to normal mobility and flexibility. I had no idea I would feel so stiff. My goal is to be able to make a snow angel this winter with our 5 yr old son! I see the PT on Tuesday, looking forward to it. I also went for a short run for the first time since the surgery today - it felt so good! I ran slower than usual and listened to my body, but all was good.
Axiom - wow, the Guess Who! They're so well known here! That must have been a fun job!
Zills - thanks for the info on menopause. I know in the grand scheme of things, this operation is not the end of the world and could save my life. But in a way, it also feels like all my "feminity" is being taken from me at the same time...Depening on the pathology results on Monday, I might delay it (it's tentatively scheduled for Feb). Not sure I can handle all this change at the same time.
...I don't want to end my post in a depressing way! Time to just focus on relaxing, getting my body better, and maybe a little massage tonight!0 -
Hi everyone,,,very quiet here, I hope gramwe and the OG are doing well! Bobo, I hope your getting over this awful bug and healing. One more sleep and you will have the tiny house back to yourselves! It feels like an eternity since you were going in to Hospital.
Beautiful lazy day here. The water is like glass and the sun is up. Blue skies and barely a breath of wind. A couple of boats out, leaving trails across the water. There is a very large Echidna looking for ants in the grass right outside our gate.
Dex is still doing well, he's still his playful self, he brings in a small apple or pear that the birds have knocked off the tree, throws it and chases it them lies flat out with his legs stretched out behind him and eats it. No vomiting or obvious signs of discomfort yet. Keeping everything crossed that he will not have the bad SE's.
Today will be the last big push to finish clearing out this back room in time for guests for the Holidays. I think I can, I think I can LOL
otceb, glad you found us. I can imagine that it is an awful lot to process and to act on. Stick around and enjoy the girls here. They are fantastic all the time, but if you're feeling a bit overwhelmed they will rally round and make you smile!
gB, I hope you got your errands done and you're home again and cozy. Are you getting any Ebay done?
Spookiesmom, you take care. I don't like the idea of all those Gators around. We have crocodiles up North, but I have only ever seen them in captivity. Not the most attractive of creatures. Stay warm!
Zills, I hope you're feeling good this afternoon. How are the children doing?
I can't believe I walked away from the computer, and completely forgot I hadn't sent this. Thank goodness it didn't disappear.
Take it easy everyone...M x0 -
Otceb. You'll be able to do snow angels. They may not be perfect. I have a 4 year old and he loves helping me do my exercises.
I squeezed rubber ducks instead of balls. As soon as he'd hear them, he'd come running. He'd hand me the broom. It's a great counting activity. We always did the chicken dance to the one where you put your hands behind your neck and flap your arms like a chicken.
It's good to do some of the stretches in the shower. I measured my progress by how high up I could go. You need to do them several times a day. Unfortunately house work and laundry don't count. Mopping and vacuuming will invoke the claw.0 -
Hey all.. haven't read posts, but wanted to stop in.. Zils, Granwe & Bobo all been on my mind today.. How'd you make out Zils?
Granwe.. hope everything went well with OG and I hope you get some rest.
Haven't heard boo from Bobogirl today and didn't get a chance to send her a text, I was slammed all day.. hope she's doing ok. I can't believe tomorrow is a week already since her surgery.
Hope everybody else had a great day as well.. I think I'm going to take a nice relaxing bath and then off to bed early for me.
Big hugs to everybody!0 -
Hi, how is everyone doing? Any news from bobogirl? Thanks for the stretching ideas, Zills, I'm looking forward to seeing progress.
Well, I'm such a loser in the kitchen, yesterday was quite the sight. I tried this new recipe that called for 750 ml of macaroni. I looked at the boxes and figured oh, that's 2 boxes (of 375 g each).... I started cooking, thought it was a lot, the amount of sauce seemed pretty small, then realized it said "3 cups (750 ml)"... of course! Good that I caught it in time before mixing the sauce, so dinner turned out ok, but it still meant I had to drain this massive pot of macaroni (it had to weigh at least 10 lbs!), and am now stuck with all this macaroni. If any of you knows a good recipe that I can then freeze, I would welcome it!
Stay warm!0 -
Bobo said she had a rough night. Pain. Poor girl.
We were given Mac-n-cheese with chicken in it as a freezer meal. Could add any type of meat or veg. I think it had to bake about an hour. Or you could freeze it plain to add to chili or goulash or minestrone soup.0 -
GB, I was a bad girl again today My email has multiple happy dances going on in it!0 -
Otceb, I am laughing! Not sure on what would be good frozen.. I don't generally freeze stuff like that. I'm thinking anything with a red sauce would be fine.
Be back later.. thanks for the laugh Otceb.. I am laughing with you and not at you because it is something I would totally do!!!0 -
Hi, quiet again!
Thanks for the update Zills! Still in pain? F recon, F flu. This is just wrong. I hope getting the place back to themselves will make a difference. The children are there aren't they?
otceb, the massage and the exercise will be your best friend. I found the Sentinel Node area was the worst for tightness and soreness of the whole experience. A year out, and that is still the most uncomfortable part. You've got it on both sides!
Sorry, I am challenged in the kitchen these days. I used to enjoy it, but can't be bothered with it unless it is quick!
I'll be back...M x0 -
otceb, oh I could so easily do the same! but not sure what to do with all of it..goulash maybe??
Oh no, Bobo, I just cant stand to think of it! also wondering how OG is doing, so many concerns,, having a slow day myself, headachey, feeling like a cold coming on yuck. Have to be feeling ok for tomorrow night because we have tickets for a Christmas show of the Gatlin Brothers. Drinking lots of tea and trying to stay warm. So worried about Bobo! Hugs to her!!0 -
Checking in to see how our bobo is doing. So sorry to hear she is still in pain. (((bobo))) Doesn't her mom go home today? That may help her get to feeling better.
granwe, hoping OG is doing well and that you are too!
otceb, I'd freeze it plain in serving sizes (I live alone so everything is single serve size for me) then you could do mac n cheese again, or a pasta salad, or the things others have suggested. I did that once with spaghetti back in the days I could eat pasta. Lots of noodles left over!
ldesim, we are on the same wavelength that is for sure! I've been poking around zulily again today too. They have Bob's from Sketchers that look really cozy and some fingerless gloves I already have in my cart! And you know a purchase today means free shipping all weekend!! Oh boy, that could mean serious trouble!! I fear there will be dancing in my email today too!!
ndgirl, sorry you aren't feeling well. Hope you can kick it so you can enjoy your concert tomorrow!
It's warm here today, 30°F (-1.1°C) and snowing lightly. I got all my errands run yesterday and don't have to go out at all this weekend! Just sit by the fire and watch the snow fall. And get more items listed on eBay too!!!0 -
Poor bobo, this is awful. In addition to the flu and whatever other reactions she had, TEs seem to hurt so much... I hope it gets better soon or they find better pain medication that she can tolerate.
Idesim - glad I could make you laugh! Are you done your rads (sorry, I'm not up-to-date on everyone's treatment)? Any side effects from the tamoxifen?
I ended up making a beef/tomato sauce for half the batch, and a cheese sauce for the rest. From what I read on the internet, the cheese one should also freeze well, I wasn't sure about that. Anyway, at least my time off work will have been a little useful!
ndgirl - get well soon! Have fun at the concert!
grammaB - lucky for you for this "warm" spell! We're supposed to get a snowstorm here tomorrow. At least it should be white and Christmas-y!
Ariom - continue enjoying your beautiful country! I've only been to Brisbane and New Caledonia (for work), so have not made it to your southern area, but I found both places gorgeous!0 -
Snowstorm for us too.. nothing too major 3-6" Sat through Sunday.. this will be our first significant snow fall.
So, we'll get errands out of the way tomorrow morning.. thankfully we are good with food.. although the shelves are probably bare as we speak in the supermarkets since people panic whenever anybody says storm.
I bought the supplies for the sleds so we can assemble those while snows in and I'll use this time to get the wrapping out of the way, I don't have too much to do. I can't believe Xmas is less than 2 weeks aways.. somebody stop the damn calendar.
Otceb, glad it all worked out with the extra pasta I have already gone through my rads.. Zills is the one who is on her homestretch of rads now. Its hard to say what is SE's of Tamoxifen since I am also on Herceptin for another year and they can have similar SE's. I have weight/water gain, hot flashes, night sweats and some joint pain in my knees and hips. I too went on a chemopause and have not had my period back yet. My MO thinks I will get it back, but I am 14 months now, so who knows.
Ndgirl, I am sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. I felt similar last weekend and luckily it passed, hopefully it will for you too.
I am laughing because GB reports its warm at 30 degrees and Spookiesmom reports it chilly at 62 degrees It's in the 20's here and I am freezing my arse off!
M, I agree.. this is just wrong, she is a week out and should be well on her way to feeling better.. shouldn't she?
posting.. think I'll text her too.0 -
When I got up this AM it was 52!!!!!!! I had on flannel Jammie's, house slippers (never wear shoes) the heater on, and if I had a fireplace I'd have lit a big one.
Screw winter0 -
haha.. you cannot call 52 degrees winter!!
So now Bobogirl is telling me she has thrush, which for those of you like me that had no clue what it is, it's a mouth infection with white blisters which may be the result of super antibiotics in the iv. The only good news is mother is gone0 -
Uh huhhhh I can too! The calendar says so! LOL0 -
OMG! Thrush now? Poor Bobo, it feels like you're swallowing razorblades. I had it once from antibiotics, but it can be a beatch if you get it in the "nether region" too. It is also called Candida.
She's having the worst time of it. I can't believe it has been this dreadful for her. I knew the TE's were going to be an issue, but maybe they are the least of her worries.
I am so glad to hear that Mommie Dearest has moved on!
It is warm and still here today. My neighbors have just been to Melbourne to pick up the wife's sister who has been living for 20years in the South of France. Her Husband died at the same time a Colin's sister's Husband, the night before my surgery last December. She's staying for 3 months and has to go back because her home hasn't sold.
otceb, I have been to New Caledonia too, and I moved to Surfers Paradise, in Queensland in my late teens, for a year. So I would go to Brisbane, about 75km away to see concerts. What kind of work were you in?
I bought the Ham and the Turkey breast today, and I ordered the seafood, so that's about it for me. All I have to do is get the bits and pieces and the potatoes for the potato salad, which is the only thing I actually cook for the big meal!0 -
Spookiesmom, I will trade you winter temps!! But I wouldnt like the gators! We toured the Everglades a few years back, loved it, but really dont like reptiles that much, but Florida was beautiful, sounds good to me right now. If dh ever retires wouldnt mind spending winters in FL. need to find someone that has a place to rent for a month or 2. our son lived in Jacksonville for a little while and we visited there too.
Poor Bobo, now thrush, that is painful too. Of all the rotten luck for her to have complications with surgery, pain, meds and now this. missing you Bobo!
Idesim, hope storm isnt too bad, we heard we are to get one next week around Thursday with 9 inches, hoping that doesnt happen but we have to take what we get.Sometimes we can get alot done during storms, as long as we dont lose power, no fun then. Thanks for the bobo update.
Good night all,0 -
Oh no, poor bobo!! And with thrush, she probably isn't eating much. I hope she is getting some nutrition somehow. I can't believe how difficult this is turning out for her. It seems like it is one thing after another!
So glad mommie dearest is gone! At least that is one bright light.0 -
lol Spookiesmom... we'll have to get your butt up here where you can really get the most out of your flannel jammies.
M, THAT's what I thought thrush was.. the nether region or the Aussie fannie if you prefer!
Dex still doing good?
Night Ndgirl, hope you are able to get sleep and avoid any illness.
GB, no clue how she is getting any nutrition between the throwing up for days and now this
Night night for me too!0 -
Cold rain predicted all day. Just a few degrees above freezing. Yuck!
DH did part of the laundry last night so no excuses for paperwork today.
Bobo drinking protein shakes and on probiotics. There's a shortage of soy yogurt? Mom went on a cruise and will be back on Friday. Not sure what be back means. Hopefully she'll see a difference with the probiotics this weekend. Also the princess has noticed and asked if they shrank.
My area looks like someone laid an iron on my chest with the fat end at my armpit and the pointed end towards my chin. The pointed end is where I didn't do JS and it itches! Had to use prescription cream last night. Skin is slick so should start peeling soon. My collarbone is completely normal color and the scar a litle pink.
Tried Starbucks yesterday. Still yucky:( Had Mexican for lunch and the onions kept me belching. We used to eat at a local Mexican place every Sunday. Wonder if it's still residual from chemo almost 3 months out or my new normal.
Miss Poopy Pants is awake. I heard her playing but now she's quiet. Not sure if she's asleep or earning her nickname. Boys still asleep. I have a slight headache and want a cup of tea alone.
Took a walk late last night. Had three big kittens and two or three little ones trailing me. It was good to get out.
Boy just got up. Can't tell which room he snuck into. Don't hear any noises from his sister's room. He loves to get in the crib with her and play.
Better go get that cup of tea while I can. Happy Saturday!0 -
Hi Zills, just having a cup of tea right now, too!
I am glad Bobo is onto the shake and probiotics, I hope she'll be better soon.
ldesim, Dex is doing just fine. I am very surprised because he usually has a "delicate" stomach, but so far it's good.
I have just changed our bed and put on clean sheets that have been out in the sun all day, I love sun dried sheets! I bought a new duvet because I am burning up at night, Colin has no heat or cold regulation, so he errs on the side of HOT. This duvet is actually 4 separate duvets zipped together so that you can have super warm on his side (summer and winter zipped together) and just a summer weight on my side. I hope it works.
Off to bed now.....catch you all later M x0 -
Wedding Cookies
325 degrees for 10-15 min
Cream 1 cup butter and 1/4 cup powdered sugar. Add 2 tsp vanilla and 1 tbsp water. Stir in 2 cups flour. Add 1 cup chopped pecans. Roll into bite size balls. Bake. Roll in powdered sugar while hot. Put extra sugar in tin to keep from sticking.0 -
Hello All ,
Zills - I have had these and they are to die for !!
Otceb - Welcome ! Maybe you could make wedding cookies out of the leftover macaroni (sorry I could not help help myself !! )
Spookiesmom - I agree with ndgirl 52 is not winter , however you do get the humid cold that we don't get in Colorado .
I have been off this site a few days to finish the freaking cleaning. So it is as good as its going to get for awhile and of course I have given myself M's "CLAW" . I knew better but I pushed on as I could not stand it anymore . Also trying to adjust to this tamox , thus far the side effects have been the same as being knocked up !!! I am trying not to think about it as a pregnancy that's going to last 5 years !!!
I am staying away from Marika site and that dangerous Zulily site for a few days anyway . Off to today to take my mother to do her XMAS shopping and hopefully avoid and random comments from strangers about my appearance !! Then cooking ...............
Hope you all are doing well and that Bobo gets some long overdo relief0 -
Sun dried sheets... they are the best, and I will have to wait several months before I get that wonderful smell in my bed again. But I remember my mom used to put them out in the winter to freeze dry bring them in frozen and put on a clothes rack and the whole house would have that clean fresh smell! No way am I doing that, but good memory.
Feeling better this am, I did sleep pretty well, which I cant often say, sure feels good.
Zills, cookies sound great, may have to try them for Christmas. Think I would add almond flavoring instead of vanilla, love the almond flavor.
So hope Bobo can get some nourishment and rest! Mommy Dearest is on a cruise.. maybe this week will be a good one.
Have a good weekend all!0 -
Dear Santa,
My name is Preston. I have a baby sister. I am 4. I live in Paris.
I've been good for a little bit. I'm going to be good today and not get in trouble. I'm going to listen, play all day and poop in the potty.
For Christmas I want a remote control 4 wheeler with pretend guns and a small model train. I'll share with my baby sister. She might like to play with my model train.0 -
hi everyone! I'm doing well, I forget how long it has been since I've written to you here. I am catching up with all your posts and I love all of you dearly! My new dog Mindy, the Tibetan Spaniel, is doing really well. We got her mid August so we have now had her 4 months. She is so happy and such a free spirit. Monty, the mini herding dog or Sheltie, likes her and he is also standing up for himself with her, which is great to see. We figured out how to use the camera on the laptop to check in on them during the work day if need be, that is priceless piece of mind. Mindy Is teaching Monty how to be a dog which is mostly a good thing however unfortunately, she introduced him to the canine art of rolling in deer poop one early morning some weeks ago. Maybe I wrote about that here. Pew0
