M, we are posting at the same time! I love it when you go 'troppo.'

What will you do for the Sand Flies? Douse yourself in tomato juice? Is there a magical cure?

And have you seen the new shopping part of bc.org? What do you think of those creams? I wonder who will buckle under first and try one? Hmmm. I know... grammaB!

Hi there sweet one! How are you doing today? We have been hanging out for an update!

I was just on my way out to the Pharmacy. I just called the Doctor's office, but they are backed up because there is only one Doctor there this week. I have swollen glands in my neck, and the itch is infuriating. I really don't feel great, so I need to do something.

    Chat later...M x

Poor M! I just know how swollen glands feel! Bet you are already gargling with salt water. If it were me, you would be telling me that swollen glands mean you should 'take it easy!'

    Sending you so many hugs. {{{{{{OUR A}}}}}}

Thanks for the support, ladies. It's amazing how you understand exactly how I'm feeling!

Ariom - glad the wait for your results was shortened. I should have used the line you mention - that surgeon nurse/admin (who made the mistake) would maybe have understood why I was upset.

I've never liked this nurse, she was the one supposed to prepare me for Sx (scheduling pre-op, etc.) and when I brought up the subject of bras that open at the front (from the little I had read by that point), she said "oh no, I wouldn't want you to go and spend money for this". Good thing my aunt and then further reading made me realize that yes, I needed a special bra/cami, and needed foob's! She books women for Mx all the time, she should tell them that these things are needed if you can afford it! It's the first time for us going through this surgery, how can we know?

Ok, I'll stop now! It is what it is, just crossing my fingers for as much info as possible on Thursday.

bobo - glad to see you're posting, you must be feeling a little better. Yeah, otceb is an awful alias, it's my first time being part of a discussion board and having to find a name. It's not for off-track betting!! The ot part is for T.O. (Toronto, Ontario). Feel free to call me whatever G-rated word you want!

Good luck with rads and the PS tomorrow, I hope the bleeding is nothing bad. You're going through a lot, with the stress from MD, kids, major surgery, complications, and rads. I hope you have a source (internal or not) for both energy and calm. You're strong!

    Hugs to all!

I'm feeling MUCH better today, thanks. Been under some serious stress lately, thought I'd had a heart attack. Did an EKG today, compared it to most recent, my heart is ok.

So doc and I determined that it was an EXTREMELY low blood sugar episode, probably in singles. I was very lucky, and stupid. I should have called 911.

So glad to see bobo posting, hopefully you feel a little better, I will be in the bag for appt. tomorrow, let's see.. what should I bring? veggie egg rolls with hot mustard or sweet and sour sauce? That was my supper!! hope this bleeding gets under control along with your pain. I see your dire situation, dllp, princess and boy want her there, how long will she stay this time? thru Christmas? I am really pi$$ed at your brother, you strip his drains in the middle of the night and he cant even send a text or phone call.... grrr. let all of us at him! Why do they think this is elective? better straighten them out, or maybe just let them wallow in stupidity! Just worry about getting better!

OT, cant believe a nurse that schedules mx gives advice like that!

Ariom, poor baby, sand flies? I have heard about them around our area but never knew they would bite, perhaps different species, I think usually they are around the lakes here and you are by the water. ok, just asked dh about them and he said they do bite.. shows what i know. hope you get something that helps soon.

I have to say that after listening to some of the things you gals have gone through waiting for appts. and results I have been very fortunate with my experiences at Mayo, things just clicked in order, guess that doesnt happen often. Hope things work out ot, bobo and everyone.

LOL bobo, I did take a peek, but I am not in the market for any creams right now. I have a rash on my chest around all my scars and am going to have to figure out what I have been using that caused it before I throw something else in the mix.

bobo, I'll be in the bag tomorrow too! I'm with ndgirl about being pissed with you brother. Guess he has a lot of MD in him. Sad really....

Wow, Spookiesmom, that is scary! Thank goodness you are OK!

Ariom, are the swollen glands from the bites? Hope you can get some relief quickly.

M, I'm worried about you now. I know if you say you are feeling bad then you are feeling really bad. I hope you are able to get some relief. We get sand fleas around May for a couple of weeks, I'm sure they are different, but they are truly a nuisance, I have to take a vacuum cleaner to the screens because they just seem to congregate around and you get these little bites all over.. hate them.

Otceb, I am infuriated on your behalf! Nothing like trying to prep yourself and then be told you have to wait even longer, I am not good in the waiting dept., especially for something like this!! This is all so hard to deal with in the first place we don't need any additional stress!!!

3 years of being misdiagnosed, that poor woman and what she is going though now because of it.. it makes me sick to think of it.

Spookiesmom, I'm sorry about your mother. Edith Bunker was one my favorite tv characters :)

Bobogirl, this MD situation is such an F'ing mess! So glad to see multiple posts... sheeeeeees back!!! Anyhow forget MD for now.... you didn't really tell us much about the BS.. gosh you have so much going on, it's hard to know where to even start!!!

Zils, hoping you are feeling better, I got the sads too.. I believe it was on my SE list for rads, but then again I think along with fatigue its on the SE list of every damn treatment and medication. Only 2 more to do and you have done so well through this!!! I am cracking up over your ensemble! I think the ACDC beanie just pulls the whole outfit together :) So happy to hear that you didn't set yourself on fire with the damn blanket lol You'll heal quickly.. I was amazed at how fast the skin recovers.. you won't have to play a caped crusader for very much longer.

Ndgirl, I've never played pinochle, but I think it's somewhat similar to spades which is popular in my area. We used to play cards all the time, but haven't done it in years, used to have so much fun.

Fia, glad you are taking it easy.. but I bet you're back to overdoing it by tomorrow :)

GB, hope you are feeling better.. boy aren't we all a ragged bunch! I had to laugh over the cat hair because black or dark clothing has been banned from my house since my Harley has thick white fur that just loves to settle all over us. I use packing tape to get it off before I leave the house.. he even sheds in the middle of summer. Never had a cat that shed so damn much. We brush him, but it never seems to make a difference.

Wren, You're friends husband is very wise... but your friends dining table sounds like mine, it never gets used for eating!

Hmm. that's about all the updating I can do... my wrists are sore from too much typing today and my eyes are strained from too much computer... going to veg out and stare at the tree then head to bed.

M, I would have set fire to the kitchen too.. FYI.

Hi again, just back from the Pharmacy with stupid antihistamine that has to be taken at night, and after I told them how sensitive I am to these things, they still gave me one with a "Drowsy" warning.

Just found a pack of Claratyne in the first aid kit, maybe I will try these. Worst case scenario, I fall asleep!

wow spookiesmom, numbers in the singles? lucky you are not in hospital. hypoglycemia is very serious, you wont feel good for awhile. If we could only get rid of the stress, wouldnt it be nice, but dont think it would be called life! Sure hope you can get some rest and kick stress to the curb! please take care! Thinking of you.

hope you meds work Ariom, maybe I should have some and fall asleep!! take care too.

Idesim, pinochle is a special deck with only 48 instead of 52 cards, and the 10 is second highest with ace being the top! We have a blast playing, even play in tournaments when we can, good pastime, it isnt just luck with pinochle gotta use a little thinking too, I know, I know, why am I playing this!! ha. I am also sitting looking at tree with a cup of tea, hate when i have to take the tree down, house seems so dark and dreary!

Good grief, what a lot of posting since I went out.

Yes, gB, the glands are up because all the bites are on my scalp and behind my ears. It is really unpleasant. I have spoken to a few people who have had a bad reaction to them. There's not much you can do for them, except antihistamine and cream to take the itch out. Apparently it can last for a couple of weeks... geeeesh, give me strength if it keeps up like this!!!!!!

Spookiesmom, I am so sorry to hear about your medical issues too. A good thing it wasn't a heart attack, but so sorry that you're having so much stress that it presents like one. Take it easy, if you can. Let us know how you're doing!

ldesim, Thank you! I'll be fine, just a stupid thing to have happen. I dragged that sprinkler around that lawn all the time last year and never had a problem, go figure!

Talking about the white pet hair, I asked the Vet why Dex is looking so sparse, no not because of the lousy clipping job I did, and he said it is to do with the reaction to the steroids. I told him that it just seemed to disappear, no tumbleweeds when the breeze comes in the door, and no hair when I sweep the floors. It is so weird, hair one day, and gone the next!!!!!LOL

ndgirl, I haven't played pinochle either, but I have heard it mentioned a lot in American Movies.

otceb, I always miss the page change too! The others start talking about something, and I realize I haven't a clue what they are on about!

What planet is that nurse on? Fancy giving stupid advice like that to women who are having a Mx. What is her problem? Has she never had anyone go back and tell her she should do a little research on what might be needed? A front closer is good.......why do you think they make them????? Silly woman. Doesn't she know we walk around looking like string puppets for the first little while 'cause our arms simply don't reach up?

In Australia, they have a whole little system worked out where you get all kinds of kits, bags and books and the very first thing you are presented with is a Berlei Post Surgery bra with a pair of poofy things that have removable stuffing so you can cutsomize to the size you want, or need. Not bad, but butt ugly! I hate that color they call "skintone". I have never seen anyone with skin that awful color. Nice thought, and free to everyone who is Dx. I am still looking for soft "Foobs" with a black cover to wear inside black bras. It would be much better than seeing those boring beige things, if you bend over.

It has been like "Bourke St" (main street in Melbourne city center) here today. The window man, the garden people to replace some wiring, Barry delivering more Marika! a couple of guys wanting to crew for Colin tonight. The cable TV man is yet to come to install another new box. This one still won't give us all the channels. I was going to have a quiet day, but it hasn't happened.

    Hugs to everyone....M x

Bobo, in your pocket tomorrow. Of course MD won't get it. I suggest saying "they're not the same and I rather not discuss it again." Next time she brings it up, say "I still don't want to discuss it." Can't she talk about TV or something?

Ceb, I would have been furious too. How can hospitals close for 2 weeks?

Yes, Bobo. We're covering a Xmas vacation for another foster parent. He's an adult, black (to go with my wardrobe), and Bear's brother. We fostered her until her adoption. He seems to be as shy as she is.

Ariom, Sand flies are the worst! See if you can talk them out of lidocaine gel. That should take the itch out. If they don't give you that, hemeroid creams have some anesthetic in them.

    Hi wren!

I am sitting with a zip lock filled with ice cubes. Every time I move about and heat up, they start to itch like crazy. So I am holding a bag of ice to my head. It is so ridiculous!

I am still waiting for the cable guy who was supposed to be here between 7am and 5 pm. He just rang to say he has 2 more jobs before us in Bairnsdale, si I doubt he'll be here before 7pm.

Colin has gone sailing, so I couldn't take my antihistamine in case it knocks me out before the guy gets here. Talk about a crap day!

I should have thought to get haemarrhoid (sp) cream. That might do it. That was an old trick that models used to use for under eye cream! It tightens the skin! LOL M x

Spookiesmom - that's quite a scare. I hope someone can provide you with a little TLC. I hope the stress diminishes soon and you feel better soon. Big hug!

Oh, Ariom, I'm sorry you're in pain. You must just want to immerse yourself in cold water to calm that itch. I swell up when I just get bitten by one mosquito and I attract them like crazy, I can't imagine being bitten by a sand fly. Hopefully the whirlwind of action around your house kept your mind off it at times.

The Australian healthcare system seems much better than ours for Mx patients. I was just sent home with this tiny booklet, I called a cancer society to order a foob, never heard back from them, then found on my own a specialty store that had the camis and foobs, and went there in time for surgery. I don't know what I would have done if I did not live in a big city , or did not have people in my family who had gone through this before!

    Take care!

Hi otceb! You're so right! I just got up and it is just as itchy as it was yesterday. I thought it might have diminished over night, but no, it's hot and burning again.

The Aussie system is really good. It surprised me that it was so good in this regional area. We actually have 2 fully funded breast care nurses as well as the State of the Art new Mammogram machines with Tomosynthesis, and Breast Screen call back center with everything including counseling available. I heard there is a new machine for measuring for LE at the local health center. Even my Surgeon was a gift! He had been trained and practiced in South Africa where he set up breast clinics across the country, and then he moved to London and did the same thing, before moving to our region with his family, for a slower pace, so he could see his children grow up.

Add to that the strong community of volunteers, who reach out in a big way to all kinds of causes, especially BC and we are pretty well sewn up, where no one ever slips through the net.

I am going to ring the local Doctor's office right now. I don't think I can take another day of this itching. Chat later M x

    Hi again, thanks gB!

I am just back from the Doctor who pretty well just looked at my head and said "Welcome to beautiful East Gippsland!"  I told him I had never been bitten by these things before, and he told me in his  slow Aussie drawl, "Better get used to it!" He told me they are especially bad at the moment and lots of people are getting bitten at the moment. Apparently, I am just very sensitive...great!!!!

So I have a bag of ice and cortisone cream. That's about all there is, if I don't want to try the Old Wives tales, remedies of Lemons, Vegemite, or Bi Carb Soda. I asked if I should eat the Vegemite, or smear it on. The Doctor wasn't sure! LOL

Oh dear bobo!! Hoping for not too bad repercussions from the fall!  I can imagine how scary that was!  Sending you healing energy. ((hugs))

Aroim, if that is a normal thing for your area, maybe you should get one of those net hats they wear to keep the mozzies off for when you are moving the sprinkler around.

bobo, yes, that fall must have been scary! I hope you're ok.

Ariom, sorry that your new town has these nasty flies. Maybe you will develop an immunity to them?!

gB - a net hat is a great idea! I imagine a beekeeper's hat but I'm sure there are smaller ones!

spookiesmom - glad your numbers are better, take good care!

I had my first PT appointment today, I learned that I have cording in my right arm, which explains my declining mobility on that side. She showed me how to do the exercises better and said I should be stretching more often than prescribed, even when I'm not actually doing the set of exercises. She even said I should take pain medication beforehand to go further through the movements - I don't know about this, I've been happy not to take painkillers since the drains were removed. I think I'll push through the pain. I can also start massaging the incisions, I know this is useful.

Good night (good rest of the day, Ariom)!

    \

Long day.. more snow today.. came by to see how M is doing and also heard Spookiesmom had a scare... glad all is better there... you know you can vent to us if you need to de-stress!! That stress can be a b1tch.

M... take a look at these sites:

    http://www.outbackcrossing.com.au/Information/Sand...

    http://www.abc.net.au/local/stories/2013/07/04/379...

Maybe you can find some help there.

"It is almost impossible to avoid getting bitten but frequent applications of Rid
seem to be effective, and application of a mixture of strong cold tea and
mentholated spirits helps lessen the itching. Bushies swear by a mixture of baby
oil and Dettol to keep these little pests at bay. We have read all sorts of
remedies including raw onion, vegemite, bi carb of soda with water etc. etc. The
BEST remedy we have ever found is simple, very hot water (as hot as you can
stand it) dabbed on the bite site with a cloth. This method seems to work when
    everything else has failed"

Gonna do one more quick shovel then off to bed... All in the bag for Herceptin and MO in the AM!

oh yes!! Spookiesmom.. congrats on a year past this crap!  :)

Otceb, I am with you.. I do not like taking meds.. plus how are you to know if you've gone too far??  There is such thing as doing too much and injuring yourself!  If you feel like you need to take a little something afterwards, I can see that.. but to take it so you can push yourself more?  I dunno that doesn't make sense to me.  Massaging is very good.. Ariom can advise you more on that.

    Ok off now :)
