    Zills, great video!

Fiaranch, yeah, to all of the above with the exception of the pot. Tried it once in college and had a very bad reaction to it.  This is definitely an unusual card. The year my DD had her DD, the card I had pulled was "Expectancy".  Nailed it!

viv, AWESOME!!!!!!!! Or as 9 would say FANTASTIC!! ;)  You are so lucky!  I'm in the boonies in MT never have much as far as conventions any where near me.

My step-GD gave me one of those paper folding wallets for Christmas with the Tardis on the outside and spacey scenes on the inside.

viv, whose console is that? It kind of looks like Tom Baker's, but from what I can see of the dress behind you, I sort of think it might be the one the Dr and Idris built in The Doctors Wife.

Zills, I don't think I was ever that coordinated - at any age. Practice for that was probably an awesome workout.

Yes it is Grammab.  I have to confess I had to ask my son.  I always have to watch each episode 3 or 4 times before I understand them and then I need an explanation!!!!!  At the convention there was Matt Smith, Jenna Coleman and Stephen Moffat in a theatre show - kind of interview thing on stage and then there were other panel shows with Strax, the lady who was the prime minister sontaran and the young Amy Pond!!  Very good and interesting stuff!

    Helloooooo Everyone!

Please excuse my ignorance, but although I have heard of them, and I know of the band of the same name, what are black eyed peas? I remember, as a child being taken to the fish and chip shop for peas in vinegar, I bet Viv knows about those!

Viv and gB, Colin is the biggest Dr Who fan! He's going to be so impressed when I tell him about you two! He has been downloading stuff over the past few days from England so may be the same as you've been watching. Will show him the photo Viv.

i can't believe how many of us have had infections after this bloody surgery. I have always read about the frequency of infection with recon, but my Mother had a really severe infection after a radical Mx, I had a small one that was easy to control, but it did open the wound and leave me with a section of much wider scar right in front. Viv, you had a bad one, and Bobo now too. I am still germphobic, and have become the hand sanitizing queen. Not a bad thing, I have been well since I started doing this before my surgery.

Zills, I can understand your mixed emotions. It has all been so terribly full on for you, but the news is good and I am so thrilled for you that the tough treatments are now behind you.

I didn't see the link, but will watch the treadmill video. I am a super Klutz, so not a lot of coordination here. I have told my Father's story here before about him picking me up from school, 300 kids run out, and 1 falls down. Yep, that was me!

gB Surrender, I love that too! It is so encompassing!

sgc, I love that..Reservations! I will borrow that great line if I may!

Fiaranch! I read surrender, just as you did, but OMG, not Pot, I have a hard enough time controlling my chocolate intake, but to have the "munchies" again, no thanks! We have been reminiscing here for days about how great the 70's were and Pot figured pretty heavily in most of the really funny memories. It is amazing being with friends of 40 years and being reminded of things long forgotten. It seems we are all the keeper of certain memories, and some we all recall. It has been incredible putting lots of forgotten stuff together. My chest hurts, but not in a bad way, just from all the hysterical laughing!

I know that hoodie! Love the Marika ensemble for Christmas!

Wren, what an amazing number to have reached, Congratulations!

I am with you, need to know how Bobo is doing now. Gosh I wish that other implant was out too!

Off to get breakfast for the crowd...chat later...M x

Bobo, Hope you're beginning to feel better. You are definitely not broken. Step one is to get rid of the infection and get back to health. Then on to strangle your BS and PS. ((((((HUGS))))))

If you're worried about looking lopsided for a bit, get a slip or camisole and pin a foam form in it. It won't need to touch you and wouldn't bind. I've never seen any form fitting Eileen Fisher, so that should be enough. One of the seamstresses on here made a fancy party dress and put in pockets for foam forms.

Black eyed peas look a bit like a navy/white bean with a black circular spot on the one tip.  They are extremely high in folate so I love them.  Folate is supposed to offset the risk of alcohol consumption for persons with bc.  If I eat my peas, I feel a bit less guilty about the wine :)  So love those peas!!!!  ps we cook them with smoked pork hocks when we want a real treat and allow that extra fat.

I looked up black eyed peas and it said they have been cultivated in China and India since prehistoric times. I think they are actually a bean - botanists seem uncertain. They can be a bit dry, which the okra counteracts. My family didn't eat them growing up, but we picked up the habit in Texas and now go out with the other transplants looking for an item that is fairly scarce in Seattle.

Oooo I've not heard of black eyed peas, only the band!!!!  Haha!  I have learnt something though!!!  Ahh you could be talking about mushy peas Ariom.  They are the green variety and are horrible, make me want to spew!!!

I'd never been in hospital before my mastectomy so the hospital visits and stuff were a new thing for me!  I ended up on the ward my Mum died on so had a really really awful time in there!  That's my main fear of the recon surgery, infection.  I was going for a DIEP but they want me to have a BMI of 30 and it's 42 at the moment!!!!!!  I wonder what the percentage of recons end up with infection.  It's all too scary for me to be honest and the more I think of it, the more I don't want it!

I'm off to bed now lovely ladies.  Hope to come back tomorrow for news of Bobo!

    Night night!

That's OK viv.  Some of Moffat's writing is hard to follow.  Some of it, you just have to wave your hand and just say, OK whatever!!  The bit of the dress behind you that I could see did look like the dress Idris was wearing.

TB90, that is how I used to cook them too.  My ex DH absolutely loved ham hock and black eyed peas. And he is Chinese!  Sadly since my diabetes dx, peas and beans are off the table for me.  Only bean I can tolerate is black soy beans.

Hi all.  Been trying to avoid thinking about all of this for the past couple of weeks.  We were without power for 7 days and stayed at a friend's house.

For those who remember me, I had a lumpectomy in October and am afraid of the radiation.  The RO said Jan 21st (3 months from lumpectomy) is the last day he will start radiation for me.  I still am in limbo...I asked someone at the John Hopkins site about waiting that long for radiation and she said that the benefit of radiation might be lost by waiting so long.  Well, that's reassuring...not.

So now what do I do?  I feel hopeless.   I wonder if anyone has ever waited this long for the second part of their treatment?  I was leaning towards mastectomy and now I read about Bobo and I am freaked out.

Anyhow..just popping in to say hi.  I think I am in the throws of a full fledged depression over this stupid disease.

Texted with Bobo a bit this morning.. her spirits seem a bit better.. but she is struggling with the pain issues still... they removed the bad implant and she said it was covered in pus.. gross.  She sounded like she had it out with the PS, but as far as I can tell she still has the other implant... it's all rather confusing to me at this time... I was hoping she would have a better resolution to this by now.. perhaps there has been more positive developments since I last heard from her.

ldesim, I did Pizzas last night too!

My guests have just left to go back to Melbourne. It is so quiet again, but nice. We had a ball, but I do enjoy the peace and quiet.

Good to hear you had a good time with friends too.

Glad you have heard from Bobo. Not surprised to hear about the description of the infection, it is so gross. I hope she did have it out with that PS and that he didn't try to schmooze her with false promises again. I went over and read a lot of failed recon posts and they all seem to read just like Bobo's. It's criminal!!!!!

Hi prb, of course we remember you. I am so sorry to hear that you lost power for so long, that's awful. So glad you had friends that you could stay with!

I too, was fearful of Rads, I have Rheumatoid, and Asthma, so I was really frightened of any se's. That was a big part of my decision to have the Mx, but not all. I just had an aversion to keeping that breast, since it had let me down! Weird, I know, but that was my feeling, so I have no regrets whatsoever. I should say that I took the chance on there being no invasion and that they would get enough of a clean margin for mme to avoid the rads after the Mx. I was exceptionally lucky.

There are others here who have had rads and had little or no se's. I am sure they'll fill you in on their reasoning.

I guess you have to ask yourself if you don't go ahead with it and then you do have problems down the line, will you kick yourself for not going ahead with it? It's a tough one.

Hi Aroim.  Yes, there are consequences to it all, no matter what I do.  When I asked the breast surgeon how long I could wait to have a mastectomy, she didn't have an answer.  I guess no one has ever asked that before?  I had clear margins of 2 mm, and it was a grade 1 tumor, so I keep telling myself that if I go with the mastectomy I have some time....and not the 3 months the RO gave me for the rads treatment.

I just got off the phone with a friend of mine who is a psychologist with her own practice.  She just had a dx mastectomy Dec. 20th because she has the BRCA 1 gene.  Healthy breasts and making that kind of decision!  Anyhow, she came through her surgery just fine and was able to calm me down.  She sounded so upbeat and happy to have it all behind her... and that was very encouraging.

I know I just need to say yes to the surgery and let the future unfold to whatever it is.   If my lymphedema and cording increases, then I'll just have to deal with it.  I know in my heart that radiation is not for me...even if it seems like the easier road.

Thanks for letting me vent.   My family and friends are getting more than a little upset at me for my indecision and I suppose I don't blame them.

I'll go back to my lurking now.   I wish I could just keep this all to myself, but once and awhile I have to find a safe place to let loose my anxiety and fears.

PRB, good to hear from you again.  Sorry to hear about your power outage, I hope you at least had an enjoyable time with your friends.

I am one of the women who underwent radiation, so I can answer any questions or concerns that you have about it.  Even though I had the mastectomy, I still had to have radiation because of lymph node involvement and the fact that my cancer was very aggressive.  Every phase of this journey is scary.. even when treatment stops there is still fear, but you have all of us to lean on and we're more than happy to help you in any way you can.

Did they say why the benefit of radiation may be lost after a period of time?

I am so sorry for bobo's ordeal. We have to understand the dr's, and the fact that they are focusing on getting the infected side better, this is pretty serious. Bobo can deal with the non-infected side later, once her body is stronger. I just hope she stops thinking about work and just has in mind to tell everything to her boss, then take the time to heal properly. And I remember reading about DLLP wanting her to eat meat? I don't see how this is related to anything since proteins can be obtained from so many sources? Maybe it was her way of dealing with the situation?

Viv - I love your spunk!

gB - "Surrender", that's fantastic, you can make it mean whatever you want! I imagine a spa-like picture, letting yourself fall backwards into a calm pool... or something like that!

Ariom - glad you seem to have had a good holiday and nice visit with Bec and other guests!

Zills - I hope everything is under control with the kids. Does your son go back to school on Monday? The countdown is on! I have 2 playdates planned for my DS, then soccer, so I think I will survive! But I love him to death and he's much easier to handle since I don't have another one, like you do.

ndgirl - thanks for your concern. The infection is getting better, almost no redness left. The at-home nurse got more pus out today, but she says it's looking good and I should feel free to restart the stretching exercises on that right side. That's a relief, I just want progress and can't wait to get full mobility again. My left arm is almost as good as before the bmx, yeah!

Idesim - enjoy the break from shovelling, before Friday hits!

PRB - you will feel much better once you make a decision. Don't worry, neither option will be a "bad" decision, whatever SE's happen or not, now or in the future. There's is no wrong answer, just choose what feels right for you!

wren- I did not read all the posts for the week I was offline: did Freckles get adopted? If so, do you know when you will have your next foster kitty?

    Take care all!

Freckles did get adopted by a great family. I'm going to hold off on getting another for a while. DH gets into this guilty funk because he thinks Freckles believed he was in his forever home with us. That may be, but we only had him 11 days. The shelter wasn't accepting cats while it was being remodeled for 2 months, so we're really low on cats right now. I saw today that 2 cats that had been in foster care for a long time were adopted; I'm pretty sure it was the adopters I referred. Lucky cats.

Hi PRB! I am sorry you are still having a hard time making a decision. Have you tried making lists? On one page write Rads on another write MX (sorry I forgot if you were doing BMX or MX), then make two columns Pro & Con. Maybe putting it on paper and seeing it in black and white will help you focus better. Remember too that bobo was doing recon, which may have been a factor in her infection. I am assuming that since you are here you are not planning that. That said, everything does have a risk, you just have to figure out what you can live with.

Thanks for the update ldesim. I guess I can see why the dr wouldn't want to take out the other implant now, probably didn't want to risk spreading the infection to that side too. I feel so sorry for bobo though because if she does decide to go flat it means another sx, and if keep the implants, another one also. She just can't catch a break! I sure hope they can get the infection cleared up fast. And that she can get the work issues sorted.

otc, oh I like that idea for "Surrender"!! Green fronds surrounding a pond, little waterfall.......oh yeah! :D

PRB. I think GrammaB's idea of pros and cons is good. I was almost two months out before I had rads. Bobo had recon and that's a different ball game. You will feel better with a decision. Don't look back once you make it. None of us have a crystal ball. Keep talking to your friend. We're here and won't judge. You have to do what's in your heart. We only want the best for you and this is a safe place to vent.

It's going to be -4 on Monday Brrr. Plus snow off/on between now and then. Wonder if they'll go back to school on time. I'm supposed to drive to Ohio and DH to NJ on Friday.  Wonder if we need to rethink that. Guess I'll have to watch the news.

Will have to go to grocery if we stay. I'm sure there's a run on milk and bread right now. It was so beautiful yesterday. Walked the legs off the baby and myself too. I crashed before 8.

Any suggestions for my rad side as far as creams? It's healed so no need for silva dyne but it's dry and itchy. Tried vit e oil and the std aquafor. Even tried aveeno baby lotion and yes to carrots body butter. Neither seemed to last very long. Want something similar to the consistency of the silva dyne. It felt good going on and it stayed itch free for hours.

Glad freckles was adopted. You might need a break. You had several guests over the holidays.

Hello Granwe! I'm sure you have some zingers to share.

Does putting black eyed peas in your mouth count? Kids didn't like them. Both spit them out. Neither ate very well. Boy ate broccoli only.

Cleaned the kitchen. Boy hungry. No you didn't eat your dinner. I'll eat it now. Nope threw it away. But I'm hungry. DH took pity on him. If you chew and swallow 4 black eyed peas, I'll fix you whatever you want.

The boy opened his mouth like a baby bird and ate 4 of them twice. Said they were good. Wouldn't get the baby to do that. DH is gagging. He can't stand them. I ate too many. Boy asked for bread and pumpkin butter.

Zills, I didn't have rads so am certainly not an expert, but have you tried aloe vera? It works on burns and sunburns, so it might help. Try to get the pure stuff without extra additives.

PRB, Sorry you have to make such a hard decision. I was planning to have lump and rads until they found a second invisible tumor. What I don't like about the mx is needing to wear a bra and foob to make clothes look right. I go flat in the house, but I always wear a foob when I go out. Having an mx is no guarantee that you won't need rads. I didn't for which I'm grateful, but it will depend on final pathology.

I've never heard the black eye peas thing.. never had one either and I don't intend to... I do like the band though :)

Snowing here.. the blizzard was supposed to start in tonight, but it appears to have come early... as I am not even going to attempt to go to work tomorrow, I am going to stick it out here until 3 PM or so.

Zils, not sure what to recommend.. but I'll bet you anything our M will have something for you! :)  You're probably having some difficulty with the time of year your skin is healing in.... usually get dry skin this time of year anyways.

I am laughing over the treadmill video, I would be in traction after 20 seconds of that.

GB, love the card you pulled.. and am laughing over Fia's interpretation of it.

I was never a pot lover either.. hated the dry mouth and it didn't really do much else for me and I always had the munchies with out without it :)

    Posting while i read back.

    Hi Ladies,

Idesim-Good luck with the blizzard!  I saw the weather report from the north shore of LI and it made me miss the snow and my first home.  I have lived in VA longer than NY now, but I still miss the distinct four seasons!  Take care up there!

PRB-I was told that I would be having rads after surgery.  I wasn't given an option to have or not, but a dear survivor friend said it's not too bad- all things considered.  Praying for peace of mind for you as I am sure you will make the right decision for you!

Zils-good luck with the upcoming frigid weather!  I don't think the weather will be conducive to driving. I hope your rads area feels better soon.  I too have used aloe on surgical sites.  Also used palmers.

Axiom-please feel free to use the "reservations" as I got it from my mom years ago.  I really miss her right now!

Still need to take down the Christmas tree!  DH is finally feeling better, but is napping now so I guess it will have to wait...again.  I am in my "nesting" mode before surgery; just like right before you go into labor.  I have a very deep desire to clean everything!  I am starting to get very antsy and nervous.  Not a good thing for me.

SGC that's completely normal.. we have all reported doing it... it's a coping mechanism to keep you busy so you won't dwell!  I bought almost every item on the packing/shopping list on this site and didn't use even one of them!!  but I see it as money well spent because I would have gone crazy had I not had that list to keep me busy lol.    So clean away and shop away.

Have you decided where you are going to sleep?
