We eat corn on the cob with lime juice and chili powder. Picked up the idea in Mexico. I prefer it to the butter/salt approach. We had a cat once who loved corn. At first we thought it was because of the butter, but then we caught her shucking a raw ear and digging in.

That's too funny Wren. Cat shucking corn. Corn here hasn't been good. Very disappointed. Something I can eat.

Skated kitchen floor cleaner. Earned another nap today:). Paperwork waiting when I get up. Ugh!

Washed DHs wallet last night. Full of receipts. Will make paperwork even more fun.

Granwe. Do you all eat Mexican? There is a side dish called nopales. Looks like green beans. They are made from cactus. Has calcium. I like them but can't remember if you eat them from the can or if you do something with them. Will ask some friends.

Idesim must have partied late. Hope Joe had a good time and no pudding pie!

GrammaB. Have you recuped from your eBay job? Take it slow! Is the nurse still checking on you?

ND. Are you making pickles and salsa or sauce? What else can you do with cucumbers to keep them?

I've never seen Duck Dynasty except on tshirts at Walmart. Maybe that's why I found the book interesting. I used to be a big reader but unable to concentrate now. Maybe after I'm drug free.

    Guess Aroim is sleeping soundly.

    Have a good one!

Hello all.  Just joined and reading through the posts.  So nice that everyone is so friendly and sharing.  Notice above Wren asking about cucumbers.  My mom just put a bunch in apple cider vinegar and sugar.  They are delicious!  I have so many questions to ask all of you...will do so a little bit at a time.  Hope you don't mind.  Getting my port tomorrow and starting Chemo Friday.  Is it true that you shouldn't eat things you like while on Chemo or it will ruin your taste for them?  I am hoping to work through this whole mess...am I dreaming?  Had BMX on August 14 and came back to work on September 3.  Little tired but doing well otherwise.  Any advise anyone can give would be greatly appreciated.  You are all so brave!

Welcome Solnitsa! Ask away! Everyone is different. Your chemo is different than mine. I know many that worked. You may need to schedule it late in the week so you have the weekend to recover.

I've always been prone to a queasy stomach. I've had it often with chemo. Work may help distract you. I found my tastes changed. Sweet stuff left a film in my mouth. Pringles tasted better than potato chips. I haven't had a problem eating. Just nothing strong or spicy. I did avoid some of my favorite treats like Starbucks. One because its not in my town and two it didn't sound good. Want to enjoy it!

If you do get queasy, those soup or oyster crackers are wonderful to eat one at a time. I found I liked apples better cold from the fridge. Lemon water helped prevent mouth sores. You'll know if something sounds good. If it doesn't agree with you, you'll know as soon as it hits your taste buds. Just spit it out.

Drink lots! If you feel sick, tell your doctor. There are lots of different meds to try. Ask what the main side effects are. Mine was hair loss but its started growing after my 4th cycle. Round 6 is tomorrow.

Contact the American Cancer Society. Mine has an office in the hospital. They can get you started with a scarf or wig plus other options. You definitely want to ask for a sleep cap. I've being going bald all summer. It's a personal preference.

You may not get to use your port on Friday if its still sore. Drink lots so they can access a vein easily.

Good luck. You can do this!

In the bag with a cold beverage!  Guess which kind it is?  And I deserve it.  Today was ridonculous.

Welcome, Solnitza!  We are an inveterate case of bad girls.  I hope you have ears made out of cast iron. GrammaB taught us all to swear in a secret way.  F0ck!  Sh1tballs!  We use these words when absolutely necessary.

Report in whenever you like!  I like being in the bag for appts this week other than mine.  Let me know what happened.  Keeps my mind off things.  Are we really going to have chocolate almond milk and cupcakes?  I am getting excited.  Why don't we all live together?

Granwe, I have been thinking about your calcium issue.  Does the same hold true for calcium derived from veg?  Or is it only from the supplements?  Find out, because if you can still get calcium through extra doses of veg, M and I will be giving you lots of delicious recipes made with greens.  Bet nd girl has some too.  That corn with lime and chili sounds good.... I saw a recipe once with those toppings, plus queso, a white soft mild Mexican cheese.  I don't eat cheese, but that sounded delicious.

Hellish day.  Insert hellish day story here.  Z, have you wrecked all your cars?  DLLP has put several bangs in our car.  I could tell you some stories.

What's on the coffee table?  Don't know if DLLP will make supper for us.  She is testy.  I am so tired that I don't even know how I'm going to take a shower.  Did not sleep well last night.  M, did I tell you my owl followed us to the tiny house?  XXX

Poor Bobo. Were those girls at it again? Heat, humidity and nerves don't mix. Do you have something to take tonight?

The owl followed you! Must mean good luck.

I have to warn you, I am a chatty Kathy when I have chocolate. Sounds like we'll have plenty for Thursday.

Hope M is ok. GrammaB may take a nap after her trip to town today. Granwe may be really rowdy if she's still passing stones.

    What time is your appt?

Sleepy time tea is great for upset tummies whether its nerves or meds. It's good iced too. You can drink it whenever, not just at bedtime. Thanks to GrammaB for the recommendation.

I also found a recipe for ginger tea on these boards. It's not as strong as the ginger candy that's around. I can send the directions if you want.

Checking in before I fall over from total exhaustion!! Got some not so welcome news at the dr.  My pathology report finally came in.  Turns out it was sent to Beth Israel Deaconess Med Center.  Final dx is: IDC grade 2 measuring 0.4 cm. :(  With the note: Given the extensive irregularity of the periphery of the lesion, it does not qualify as an encapsulated papillary carcinoma. :((  Now I have to call the MO to see if he might have any changes in his plan...... argh, thought I dodged the hormone therapy.

The BS ripped off all my scabs! Didn't exactly hurt, but felt weird. Now I am a bit weepy again. :((  She said incisions are and will heal well.  I mentioned I had been "sunbathing" my chest and she said that the sun can make the scars worse and didn't recommend it.

I asked her if I could consider myself cancer free and she said yes!  Don't have to see any more so that is one less dr on my list.

I had to do a little grocery shopping on the way home that required stopping at two stores.  I was dead tired by the time I got to the 2nd, ran in got my things and back to the car.  I put all the cold items in the ice chest, then promptly locked and slammed the door shut.  With purse and keys inside!! :((  Sorry ladies that were in my bag,  if you got a little toasty while I waited for AAA.  Fortunately I had the AAA # programmed into my phone!  It took about a half hour for him to come, thank goodness I had parked in the shade.  And thank goodness I had got the frozen items taken care of first!!

After all that and still having to drive home I was about ready to fall over when I finally got here!  Need to rest, will catch up later!!

Joe enjoyed his little party.. I was exhausted, but I felt it was the least I could do after the year we had and the shi!t all started right after his bday last year, so I wanted to start this one off on a good foot.

No pudding pie.. I got a chocolate mousse cake from the bakery (I cannot bake to save my life), but I tried an awesome steak tip marinade and the tips came out so good!

Hi Solnitsa, welcome to our little home... sorry that you have to be here, but please come in, kick off your shoes and make yourself at home.  As Ariom would say, we have a bit of a problem around here with gutter gums.

Regarding chemo, everybody is different as you'll hear a million times.  I worked full time through chemo with the worst side effect for me being fatigue. I planned my chemo for Thursdays and worked from home on Friday, but I would have been fine to go to work on the Fridays, but since I made the arrangements before chemo, I just left it that way.

Ask all the questions you want, we don't mind at all :) I too read not to eat your favorite foods because if you do feel nauseous you will be put off that food.  Drink plenty of fluids before, during and after chemo and just listen to your body.  If you have pockets or a bag big enough we'd be more than happy to join you.. just beware that we sometimes get rowdy and Bobogirl usually gets stinking, sloppy drunk.

    Posting.

    Welcome Solnitsa!

    Morning all from DownUnder!

Haha, you were wondering where I was today. Well Colin's attendant coudn't make it today, so I said I would get him up. I have been lying in bed, loving it, a sleep in doesn't happen often for me. I got up to go to the bathroom and couldn't resist a sneeky peek at what you lot had been up to.

I will get Colin up, and then return to answer everyone...M x

Wecome Soinitsa, we are a crazy bunch but welcome! this board is the only good thing about bc.. these gals are the best here. I cant help out with chemo talk, dodged that bullet I guess. But these gals know lots of good advice.

I spent my day canning tomatoes and making pickles,, yes the vinegar, sugar and cukes are good too, gonna try a new recipe for frozen picklesUndecided not sure how this will work out, but that is tomorrows work, pooped now, i know I have to work a few hours at the office tomorrow too.

Idesim.. sounds like a nice party and what a nice thing to do.. yep this year after his b.day is gonna be ok, dont think I ever said this on here (or maybe I did) but on last New Years Eve, I just got a shudder and I mean a big one, DH asked what was wrong (we were in the car) and I said I just had a premonition that 2013 something awful was going to happen, and I just couldnt shake that feeling.. scary for awhile, then I forgot about it until March 29th when I got the bad news.. but things are ok now. So I have a feeling for you, good things for all of us. Ya know I have been called the Witch of the North up here!!

GB.. on damn not the news you wanted to hear. I am doing the hormone therapy and doing ok, but wish I was thru, but read good things about arimidex so hoping it keeps it away. OMG, ripping off scabs sounds awful. I did not ever have any scabs or weeping from the wound, just lucky I guess or the way they sewed me up. I know just how you feel with that exhaustion, i did it so often and paid the price, take it easy and get lots of sleep. check in later with more details, we are all interested. Would have been there with you today too. oh I could tell you so many stories of me locking keys in car.. hate that sinking feeling after we realize what we did. probably happened because  you were so tired.

    Good nite all.

    Hi Sol

Yes, for me it was true about eating favorite things. I didn't find out about that until it was too late. I'm almost a year out from chemo, next month. There are things I don't even want in the house, seeing Activa yogurt in the grocery makes me gag.

If you have a really really favorite thing, wait a few weeks to see how you're doing before trying it. Hopefully it won't be bad for you, see you around!

Solnitsa, I dodged the chemo bullet too, so I am no help in that area, but there are several here who will be able to guide you.

Ask away, nothing is off limits here with this bunch!

Bobo, if that Owl has followed you, there must be something very special coming your way. Look at all the positive changes since its frst visit all those months ago.

gB I am sorry, I was all ready to be there in the bag, but must have slept through the appointment, and being locked in the car. Even with the rowdy girls. I was sooooo tired!

She ripped your scabs off? eewwwww, that sounds terrible! Isn't it amazing how the opinions differ between our physicians? I have always been encouraged to bare my scars to the sun, in moderation, of course, and I have never had a problem with them.

I am sorry your path report was different to what you expected, but  hopefully it won't be too much of a change from what you were told originally.

Take a load off gB, it has been a big day...M x

I am sorry ladies, I have to dash out. Things to post and food shopping to do. Sorry I haven't acknowledged everyone, I will be back later...sleep tight everyone....M x

Can you all hear that awful noise coming from the other room? It's none other than the OG snoring so deeply he's sucking the drawers out of the dresser. Geeesh it's no wonder I rarely sleep. Between his noise, the rolling stones, the runny nose, pounding ear drum I'll be up for the rest of the night. Joy!

So Hi M, what are we having for lunch? Forget lunch lets just have Tim Tam's. Glad you had a sleep in today. Have you got the plants for your planters? Are they planted?

Bobo the owl followed you, how cool is that. The owl has to be good luck. Sorry you had a hard day. Hope tomorrow is better.

Gb so sorry you got unexpected news from your pathology. D@Mn BC.

Sorry so short, going to try sleeping in the guest room. Only 4 hours until the alarm goes off to start a new day. Hugs

    Gramwe, you crack me up!

I have cartoon pictures in my mind of the OG in the room with the curtains flapping and the drawers banging. Really, it's no wonder you don't sleep!

We had salsa chicken breast wraps for lunch in Bairnsdale, and an apple juice, no TimTams today.

I got all the plants, and even a lovely Yukka threesome for one of Colin's attendants. She doesn't garden, but wants to do a little feature with rocks and Yuccas along the side of her house, so I'll help her out with that.

I haven't planted the big pots yet because I need the gardener to get the soil in bulk because it will cost a fortune if i try to do it with bags. I don't know when he will be here so I have to wait.

I will try to get a photo tomorrow before all the Clivias start to wither. It is so bright, and cheerful, but you have to imagine it in a couple of years, it is so new, but I am thrilled with the way it has turned out.

I hope you got some peace and quiet in the spare room..take care and we'll chat later...M x

Birdie, I can't see the picture either!  I am crushed.

gB, I am sorry you got that news about the difference in your path.  That must have been jarring.  But, as our Ariom said, it may not make that much difference in your plan... we will see.  The waiting for that news from your MO must be difficult too.  Give yourself a lot of little consecutive treats.

Solnitza, I must say, my particular tumor does not respond to chemo -- which sounds like good news, but also sounds like bad news sometimes! -- but I must say that I am already like that regarding my favorite foods!  I'm just picking up on what Spookie said.  Please reference earlier (or definitely don't reference it) my recent stomach virus.  Three of my favorite foods off the list!  I am weighing in that I would be careful with that one.  I'd hate to lose some of my favorites.

ND girl, I am so jealous of your canning!  I have always wanted to learn.  I have always wanted to have a pantry filled with mason jars!  You will have to take a picture of yours.

Ariom, your lunch sounds fab.  I hope you're right about the owl.  He sounds a little like a warning owl. But that must be because I am scared about the appt.

Idesim, your party sounds like it was a hit!  I was wondering if you were going to make a pudding pie, but your fancy cake is much easier (and you may like it too).  It sure has been a difficult year, you are right.  But I was just remarking (to myself) about how sanguine you seem about all of it.  You are ... so... I hesitate to use the word because it pisses some of our sisters off on the boards... whoops, I mean p1sses... brave about the Herceptin treatments.  I would be complaining a blue streak, no doubt, but you just take it in stride.  You have earned your title of real a$$ b1tch this year, that is for sure.

DLLP just started driving not too long ago.  She's from NY, she has been afraid to learn, we have been in PHL, the driving is bad there.  So I have been driving her around for like 14 years as if she is my son.  It is not romantic.  Now she's driving, but she occasionally hits stationary objects.  Like the little pole in front of the gas machine (thank god it is there, or else she would have blown up a gas station).  And then she's like, It was coming at me, there was nothing I could do.  And I'm like, What?

That one was a while ago, but I'm still nervous about her driving, and I forbid her to use the radio, but she sneaks it, she turns it to a station called 'Soul Town.'  And I'm like, Text me as soon as you get to the grocery store.  Which route are you going to take?'  I'm a wreck about it.  I don't want her to crash our only car.  It is beating hot here.  I don't want to be walking down the side of the road.

Craziness at work today.  Is it okay to be 'in the bag' at my own appt?  They are all right about me and the beer in the bag, Solnitza.  Only thing is, it doesn't take much -- I am usually completely soused after just one beer!  I am a cheap date.  Loving the idea of everyone loading up on Femara and Tamox for the appt.  Posting!

Granwe, you should harness that snoring noise!  Perhaps we could convert it into electricity!  I see a sleep study in our future.  You will definitely  need us in the bag for that.  Oh, BTW, ripping off the scabs (gB) sounds terrible.  Although, from what you reported, it wasn't too bad... how are they today?

Hello Bobo, posting together! Is your internet back now?

Yes, Bobo, good news and new beginnings, that is what the Owl is announcing!

We are all coming on Thursday, if you are in the bag, who's carrying us?

I am chuckling here about the Gas station story. It was coming at her? That's so funny, and your observation about the necessity of having that pole to prevent blowing up the gas station has me running to the bathroom, so I don't pee my pants. OMg, my mascara is all over my face. That was great!

How are the children enjoying school? Is the new schedule working for you?

    Take care M x

GrammaB. How ya doing this morning? Try not to dwell on it. Just concentrate on your rocks and crystals. I know that will keep you busy but if you need a good cry, do it. You'll feel better. It's so hard waiting.

Granwe. I have a picture for you. I'm assuming its your drippy nose. Try ear plugs (my friend swears by this) and stuff Kleenex up your nose. Was that Sleepless in Seattle that had Kleenex hanging out his nose? I wore purple ear plugs when it was windy and my friend said she wouldn't go out in public with me with those in (before bc). Now I'm bald so they would really stand out and I don't care. Didn't care earlier either. They are cheap at Walmart. I found them in the pharmacy section but may be in the hunting section too.

My knees ached from cleaning the floor yesterday and I wasn't even on my hands and knees! But it's done. May prefer the claw!

One last day of heat and humidity here. Had to pass on the boy's trip to the orchard today. Not sure I could have stood 18 excited kids either.

Hang in there Bobo. We are all with you. Do something nice for yourself today. Ice cream? Shopping? Playing in the dirt?

Need to go get ready for JS. Have a good one everybody.

PS. I couldn't see the kitty either!

    Good Morning Zills!

I am just about to go to bed. I am knackered tonight, must have been my sleep in, I am not used to it so overslept.LOL Can't win:)

I also had to do about 6 trips around the side of the house with trolley loads of plants, so I have a bit of the Claw tonight from dragging that thing around.

I can undertand you not feeling up to the 18 kids today in the heat. Did the boy go anyway?

How did the JS appointment go? Anything new?

Have a great day, and I'll catch you later! M x
