Noon? which place would you all like to try?
those of you that want to carpool- where would be a good place to meet up? ikea? If we meet at 11, that will give us enough time to get there.

Hi y'all
Not going to be able to make it hubby is ill and I'm caregiver...waiting on RX...
Take pics! Next time!

Cindy- hope your DH feels better soon.
I have to bow out as well, my BFFs father died so I need to go to SA to help them get things sorted for the service.
Those of you who can still get together tomorrow- please do and take photos.
Or we can just reschedule again?

I've looked through the posts several times but haven't seen anything that tells me for sure where the meet up is. The Gristmill in Gruene was mentioned but so were other restaurants. What did you decide on and when do we meet?

Sandra,
Terri, Cindy(sick hubby), and I (bff's dad died) are not going to make it, V said she was recovering from some dental work, but I don't want to speak for her as to whether or not she will actually make it down there. Besides you, they were the only ones I heard from, i think. We may have to table it for later in the month if we can get a good day for most?

I agree to tabling. I put it off to the last minute, hoping to feel better. I do feel better, but not as good as I would like. Still can't eat much (lost 6 pounds already).
I am a firm believer that when there are too many obstacles on something, then that's God's way of saying "no" for now.
Summer is always easiest for me, then fall. Spring is action packed with races. Thanks for coordinating Jen!!

No worries. I'll be ready for the next one whenever you decide to have it.

Thanks for postponing. I still like New Braunfels for the next meeting.
Hubby and I stopped by Applebee's Friday afternoon, not to eat but to look. Boy were we misled. The mural is several sports related pictures all bunched together in one big picture. There were only two "running" pictures in the entire bunch (we were told they were using at least 6 of ours). The one with "Cupid Chase" on the bib is definitely ours, but certainly not the best of the bunch that we submitted. Non of our triathlon pictures were used. The other running shot could be from a high school meet, but it can also be one of ours. I'll need to double check.
We were also told that we would get credit for the pictures. That didn't happen either, nor would I expect it to based on the final product. Overall, very disappointed and certainly not worth meeting at Applebee's to show it off. We have much better pics in our portfolio than the one in the mural. Oh, well.

Also hydrate and free boob, cami with the girl out to air...if you must a nursing towel over the shoulder.

Hello,
I just received a diagnosis of DCIS, Intermediate, 5 cm, had lumpectomy last week. I'm in Austin and am wondering if anyone has any recommendations for awesome local Breast oncologists? My surgeon referred me to Debra Patt, MD. Anyone know her? I'm also contemplating MD Anderson.
Thanks!

Are you looking for a breast surgeon? This is who I have used and have been very very happy with all the doctors and nurses.
BS- dr. Coombs-Skiles
PS - Robert Whitfield
MO - Boone Goodgame
RO- Ryan Tierney
Hope this helps. Good luck on your journey. It can get overwhelming at times but you can do it.

hi RHGSR,
Can you explain the acronyms? I get RO and BS, not sure about PS and MO? Just had the follow up yesterday with the surgeon who did the lumpectomy and he said next step was oncologist. He thinks I should have genetic tests first before deciding on further surgery. In looking at online info on Austin oncologists, I don't see many specializing in breast oncology. Seems like they are more like generalists or specialize in other non breast areas. I would prefer someone specializing in breast cancer.
Thanks!

I see Dr. Kocs at Texas Oncology. Is he a breast oncologist? Not specifically but he treats tons of breast cancer patients. He is very good at what he does, he doesn't sugar coat anything, is very thorough in his explanations, gives you options when warranted, he is very caring, and he is part of the best medical team a girl could ask for.
My team is not affiliated with each other in any way, but they know that fighting breast cancer is a team effort...and they communicate with each other all the time, without me having to prod and ask them to do it. Case in point, I found a lump by lymph node biopsy site and asked my PS during a followup visit if I was nuts or did he feel it too. My plastic surgeon (Dr. Holzman) told me to that it wasn't urgent but I should call my surgeon (Dr. Bening). I called the surgeon two hours later...his office already knew why I was calling and got me in the next day. I called Dr. Koc's office to give them a heads up. They already knew about the lump as well. And when my path report said I had a close margin, the three docs each talked to me individually, then got on a conference call and chatted with each other about the best course of action for ME. Love them. Every time I see one of them, they always look me in the eye and ask if there is anything they can do for me, they take their time, and I am blessed to have them on my side.
I know all of the ladies on this thread are very happy with their doctors....and we all use different ones So you can't go wrong with any recommendation from this group!

Hi Aphena-
So sorry you have to join this lame club.
PS is plastic surgeon, MO is medical oncologist. This site has a handy acronym list somewhere…. I just can't remember where right now and the search tool seems to be having maintenance right now.
I see Dr. Christal Murray at Scott & White Round Rock as my medical oncologist, and my breast surgeon was Dr. Emilia Dauway in Temple.
http://www.sw.org/Dr-Christal-E-Murray
http://www.sw.org/Dr-Emilia-L-Dauway
I LOVE them both. Dr. Murray and her nurses were so kind, honest, and just all around amazing, and S&W has a great patient tool called mychart that allows you to see all of your appointments, make them, cancel them, email your doctors, everything. I have been very happy to stay within their system. I have yet to have reconstruction, but will be seeing another surgeon at the Temple S&W when I am ready.
If you are up to it, we will be having a meet up in Gruene on the 29th, if we can decide on a place to eat
Feel free to send a private message if you need to, I am usually up pretty late and check my email often.
good luck and take care

aphena, welcome to our group!
I am seeing Dr Jane Nelson as my Breast Surgeon. She works directly with Austin Cancer Center.
Austin Cancer Center is where I go with Dr Allison Goorebeeck as my MO, Dr Ghafoori as my RO. I have been very pleased with all of them.
Good luck with your decisions. Would love to meet you!
Terri

Hey finally chiming in on this thread... I'm not technically a Hill Country warrior as I recently moved to Sealy, but was born and raised in La Grange and then moved to Round Rock (until March of this year)
I was diagnosed on May 13th. IDC...
Have been communicating with VBishop (Hey!) And was hoping to meet up with all of you in Guerne but from the looks of things at the moment I may be starting chemo that week... so not sure how I will be feeling or if I will still be able to go
Just thought since things have settled down some Id introduce myself... look forward to meeting all of you

Hi ChaosRains!
Welcome to you, as well, to this lame club.
Sealy is close enough
If you are not up to lunch, please don't think twice about it, as we all understand. We will see you when you are ready and able.
Also- I have a blog and a few other ladies on the forum do as well. If you are interested in reading through my experience, please PM me and I will send you the link. I gotta warn you though, I cuss a lot

Hi y'all!
ChaosRains - Welcome! Congrats on healing and moving on in treatment...wish you could escape chemo land, but we will be in your pocket cheering you on {{{squeeze}}}. Fingers&toes crossed that you will be able to to a meet up...maybe this time, if not, another...a great group of TX women here!
Aphena - Welcome! Sorry about your dx:(. Ugh the waiting. Looks like you have received some great leads...that is always the hardest ...getting a BC team together that you love and trust! BS breast surgeon, PS plastic surgeon, MO medical oncologist, RO radiological oncologist, TX treatment & our beloved state! Ask your BS to request oncotype testing. Select an appointment buddy...someone to go with you and record everything...our minds just go on overload. Ask for a copy of your path results so you can review against the info on this site and make your list of questions for each team member. When you can update your profile with path results. Now, breathe...and relax. Sending calm confident thoughts&prayers. You can do this and we will be in your pocket!
Waiting on dryer to finish then off to beach! Have not been in years ...and my 3yr old GS is coming...Ooo who Funtime! Monday is MRI and than blood work, bone density, and visits with each team member...saw my PCP for sprain wrist yesterday...she's say what are you doing here it's 110! I laughed and said I pushed everything out from early May to late June for my dad:)...our daddy's
Shout out to y'all! Looking for pics.
(((Hugs)))
Cindy
