    Update -

I spoke to Zelda.  She was out walking.  Today was a pain-pill free day!  Yay for Zelda!  Post surgery appointments on Monday, hoping to head back to work on Wednesday for 1/2 days.  I told her not to push too hard.  She sounded great!  Good spirits, good energy.  I hope to see her next week at the office.

Just popping in for a bit, surgery is this Thursday so I've been trying to get things I'm not going to feel like doing done and get everything prepared... starting to get nervous of course!

Because my tumor was so massive surgeon has already told me that they are going to try for a lumpectomy but if she gets in there and has to take more tissue than expected it will change to mastectomy.  Just a lot of nerves not sure what you are going to wake up to after surgery, I'm sure I'll be fine either way ...

Well ladies! I am trying to prep for my trip, but.... I got a flue, and hep A&B shot last Monday, and am sick as a dog now. Sitting in the urgent care clinic to see what it is, sore throat, lost my voice, coughing up all kinds of ick, sinus issues. No fever so, that is good. But it needs to go before i take off on Saturday. Please keep your fingers crossed for me that it is something they can easily identify and give me something for that will clear it out. I really do not have time for this!!

Sitting here listening to some poor 4 year old baby girl scream bloody murder. Not sure what she is here for but it is both heartbreaking and earbusting to listen to her.  I was a screamer as a child, my poor mother and all the drs that had to treat my severely accident-prone self. wow.

Chaos, have been and will be thinking of you. Wishing you not only luck, but speedy healing. Tip: i took arnica for the week before and up to 3 weeks after my surgery, and it really cut down on my swelling and bruising. My surgeon was impressed. I had almost no bruising, and i am an easy bruiser.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00020HTTS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I ordered from amazon, but most of the HEBs with a natural section, or a central market or whole foods.

Candy- almost have that list for you. it has been a crazy week. Hope you are still feeling okay and are accepting all the support you need.

Zelda- glad to hear the good news

Vickie- thanks for letting us know. hope you are doing well.

Hollie- thinking of you as well. Sorry you have been feeling so bad. I wish I could just magic all our ills away.

Cindy- how is hubby? and how are you?

Terri- hoping you are doing okay.

Booklady and Shewolf- sending loving healing thoughts your way.

ok- dr is coming in- will sign back on later.

Jeni - hate to hear you are sick! Sounds like you are on top of it, and determined - you got this! Just watch some more old roasts to laugh/cough up the junk. My dad loved those - really brought back memories of watching tv with him. They got away with so much, then. Thanks for the memories and get well.

Thanks for the good thoughts, Keepthefaith, Cindy and vbishop.  My massage was great - my good friend gifted it to me and I plan on making it a regular-ish thing. I made it to Yoga twice this week. I found a great instructor with a small class, close to home AND for 50+. My people!

Chemo round three this Tuesday. Wondering what SE's the evil chemo fairy will bring this time?

So many big things going on with everyone. Best wishes for a strong, healthy week. Linda

I had some one reccomend arnica to me before surgery. I even bought some at our pharmacy ( they have a lady there that specializes in natural remedies, etc - it's a really cool pharmacy/concept). But then I read side effects and got scared and never used it :0(

    rhgsr Member Posts: 179

I wish I hadn't been such a wimp about the arnica....

Love  you ladies!!  Thank you for always checking on me. The steroid decrease is going.... I'm down to 30mg for this week. My joints hurt. Almost like a mild case of bone pain I had with the Taxol. Still have the swelling on my neck that puts pressure on my spine but it seems that hump is decreasing. The side effects of coming off the steroids is just as bad as being on them.

Those on chemo ... Hang in there. You can do this. Each treatment gets you closer to the last one. But take it all one day at a time.

We made it through Trick or Treating!! I over did it. But we usually do two things - trick or trick in the town square then head over to our church. But I only had the energy for one this year. Last Halloween was when I found out the date of my surgery. I walked in the same spot I was in when I received the call. Kinda spooky :0)

Got follow up appt. all this week...

Here are my little goblins. I normally only allow non scary costumes. But my oldest wanted to be a vampire. Since it was kind if Elizabethan - I figured it was historical :0). Poor girl had an eye exam before this picture and had to wear sunglasses with her costume since her eyes had to be dilated.

Hello all.  First I found the way to keep up on my fluids and keep the constipation down was I just constantly drink out of my hospital cup. It holds 1 liter of water and I go through 4 at least a day. I haven't found that I have dry mouth though.

Jeni I hope your feeling better. My daughter and hubby got a  evil cold this week and all I get is air hugs. They know I am not to get sick.

BTW props to all of you that can still work through all of this. I get so worn out just going to the grocery store. I guess that and losing hair is my major side effect. Well that and feeling like I am going through growing pains. This first taxol treatment was terrible compared to the first 4 of the AC. So happy though I have 3 treatments left.  I did notice with my labs though that most of them are below normal. Hopefully not too below normal so I can get my next infusion.

Yes my dad did go home.  He went home after my second infusion and right before my 3rd one. He is worried sick about me.  Constantly calling to check up that I have taken my shot or my meds.  Miss him like crazy. And my mom too. I was an emotional wreck after this last infusion as well. Broke down multiple times on the phone with my mom and hubby at home. I miss my energy I miss my boobs.  Heck I miss my hair too. Oh and I got my IUD in right before my 4th infusion and now I get a period after every infusion. Weird but that could be why I was more emotional. But the light is at the end of the tunnel. 3 more to go. Daughter turns 13 right after my next one and I will be tired but we will do something fun for her. Yay.

If I missed someone I am sorry. Chemo brain gives me short term memory but I promise I did read every thing and I am thinking of you all and appreciate all the kind thoughts towards me as well.

well, the sunglasses totally fit since vampires are sensitive to sunlight! :) Your babies are adorable!

i use arnica oil all the time on my muscles and bruises, works like a charm, and never had any SEs with it in any way. For me, it has been nothing but beneficial, but you have to go with how you feel.

stepping off those steroids was the worst pain for me. i hated it and swore i would never take any again. But now- they gave me a short does for this - whatever- i haver going on, and if it were not for this trip i am going on, i would not take it. I felt like i got hit by a mack truck getting off of the ones they gave during chemo.

Cindy - whoo you have a lot going on! sending good vibes to your DH. I really hope he starts feeling better soon!

    JWoo

I didn't know there was an oil. Hmmmm... I may have felt more comfortable with that. These were teeny pills that you sucked on.

Ditto on the steroids. I started on the 60mg a day back in August. I'm sorry you're having to go back on them. I hate to know they cause you pain, but it's nice to know that the pain I feel isn't just "in my head". If that makes sense.

I read that the amount of cortisol our bodies make naturally is only equivalent to about 7.5mg of prednisone.

Jen', sending healing thoughts your way. Bad timing, for sure. I had congestion of some kind about a month ago; I think it was allergies. I kept using nasal spray and finally took OTC meds and got rid of it. I hope you have a wonderful trip-don't over-do it!

Vicki, thanks for the update on Zelda. So glad she is feeling well.

Holli, good to hear from you. Love the kiddos pics!

Cindy, it sounds like you have your hands full right now! Will you have the remodel done by the holidays? No trip planned here. Waiting on my DIL to have my GS; due on Nov 28th. I'll be keeping my GD while she is in the hospital. We are just waiting to see when baby boy will let us have TG this year!

Kelsey, good to hear from you. This can be an emotional roller coaster for sure. We are here if you need to vent or need a shoulder. One day at a time...

Linda, I hope your infusion goes well on Tuesday. In your pockets!:)

Chaos, thinking of you and your up-coming surgery. So sorry you have to be in the dark.  Just trust in your Dr's and you'll make it through! I remember feeling so much better after my surgery, just knowing the tumor was gone seemed like a big relief.

Candy, keep those SE's at bay. Let us know how you're doing.

I hope I haven't forgotten anyone. Our little group has grown! Thanks for starting the thread, Cindy! Looking forward to our next meet up and hope to see new faces!

    ((HUGS)) to all~

    Have a great week!

Hmm I was going to ask the surgeon if I could have an mp3 player... I don't care if they remove as soon as I'm knocked out and I have a cheap one that I wouldn't care if it got lost either, I use music to relax all the time so that would be perfect... guess it doesn't hurt to ask.

I am getting arnica tomorrow as well as bromelain capsules... I used this combo before and it worked wonders... hoping it does the trick this time too as I'm borderline anemic from the chemo and bruise easily already.

Jen, hope you feel better soon!

Geez chemo brain is a real thing how can I forget everything else I just read ugh I'm sure anxiety is a contributing factor as well

Hope you are all doing well

you are usually in pre-op for a while, with whoever you bring, then they come give you happy juice, so you don't care what happens before they take you into surgery. at least, that is how it was with me. i sort of remember them moving me from the gurney to the table, and asking them to make sure i did not wake up (a habit in my family in surgery) and they asked me what i wanted to listen to. my response was "whatever makes the doc happy, she's the one i am worried about!" i think i heard some Hendrix on my way out, but that may have just been the drugs Loopy

    JWoo - Hendrix seems appropriate!

When will the hair on my legs stop growing/fall out? Going in for chemo round 3 today and eyebrows just fell out - seems fair I should lose something I want to lose for a change!   Oh, yeah, Cancer isn't fair.

Linda, i lasered my legs right before i got diagnosed, but, my OTHER hair fell out after infusion 4- and let me tell you- that was a happy day! wish it would have stayed gone....cancer is def. not fair.

    shewolfpg Member Posts: 73

Ask for the little patch to put behind your ear.  That helps with nausea BIG time.  Plus you may not need the music as they do give you happy juice before you get to the surgery room.  I was OUT before they wheeled me away from my husband.  I never saw the surgery room.  Good luck!!

As for leg hair I have super thick hair and mine still hasn't fully fallen out of my legs.  The under arms still has a few but not near as much.  My eyebrows have thinned but again I had so much that I still have those.  I also have a few bald spots on my eyelashes.  I don't think I will lose all mine like some people.  I am not lucky as my hair is so freaking thick. But I do think if I wanted to pull them all out they would come out super easy with no pain.  Good luck hope you get to lose the hair you want.

    Hi all,

Reaching out to ask for prayers for my DIL and Grandson. His arrival is expected tomorrow; 3 wks early.  I'm sure they will be fine; she has high BP and they are going to induce.  I am keeping big sister with me.

Chaos, I hope your surgery went well today.

Everyone else, have a good week-end!

    Safe travels, Jen'!

I hope y'all don't mind if I join in here.  I'm in Fredericksburg and has my double mastectomy on October 20. I hopefully get the stupid drains out tomorrow.  I did my surgery because of the BRCA 1 185delAG gene. I tested negative, but 2 of my daughters are positive with the same gene and they have different fathers. One of which is clearly not of Ashkenazi descent.

My oldest girl had breast cancer at 16 and is doing great, she's 22 now. My other girl is 19 and has lots of decisions to make.

2 doctors said the gene had to come from me, one who called a couple days ago said I shouldn't have had the surgery that there wasn't enough evidence. I'm the first female born into my father's family in forever. They are of Ashkenazi descent, I already had to lose my ovaries,  and I already had some lumps. It will be interesting to hear how he believes we were wrong to do the surgery.

I guess I've vented enough about him, lol sorry.

I should also try to get some sleep tonight, long drive to San Antonio in the AM.

    Terri -

Congrats on the new grandson, even if he is coming early.  I am sure DIL and baby will be fine. Sending prayers for extra measure.  Meanwhile, enjoy spoiling the granddaughter while you wait to hear the squalls of a newborn!  Post pics when you can!

Note: my son was 5-1/2 weeks early and he was fine.  My baby is now 6'4" and a very handsome devil!

Welcome frisky!  This is definitely a great place to vent.  Lord knows we've all done it at least once!  Here's hoping drains come out soon.  What fun they are, huh?

I am heading out to stay in a log cabin near the Colorado river in Burnet County this weekend with hubby for a much needed break.  Checking in before we go:

Jeni - Have a GREAT time in London.  Hope you are feeling a lot better!

Terri - Oh the minutes tick by every so slowing when you're waiting for a new baby!  So excited for you!

Cindy - Hope hubby is doing okay.  Dance class sounds like so much fun!  You remind me of the energizer bunny - always on the go!  My inspiration!!

Linda - hoping round 3 was meek and mild on you!

Kelsey - y'all comparing hair stories is too funny!  I love your sunny attitude!

Chaos - hoping surgery went well today.  I know you're groggy, sore, and worn out.  Check in when you can.  Healing thoughts headed your way!

Holli - Halloween babies are adorable!! Hug them tight while you can - they all grow up much too fast!  You blink and poof!  They're married with babies of their own.

Have a great weekend, all!  Will post pictures when i get back

Vicki, I hope you have fun. What a great week-end to get away!

Mommy and baby Joseph are doing fine and expecting to come home on Sunday. I will have my hands full until then. Luckily, my GD is pretty easy. Funny how every day things seem more of a challenge when you are in Grandma mode...I guess it should just all be fun and games at this point!

Welcome frisky. I hope we can meet you soon.

I hope you all have a wonderful week-end!
