TEs. A Beginner's Primer

Anyone have any thoughts on riding roller coasters with TEs lol?! We have season passes to Cedar Point again this year and I rode a few "mild" ones with my daughter yesterday. I'm 8 weeks out from BMX and my TEs are half full. My PS said its not on a list of the top ten things not to do with TEs or implants for that matter. And I know a lot of you are jogging/exercising. So while I'm holding everything down (made for interesting pix) and avoiding the really vigorous rides, I just wondered if anyone had experience with this!

Hey Scuba,
Prior to my first fill I was in a fair amount of pain- and pain that oxycodone couldn't touch. It was a definite nerve issue, and once I had my first fill it pretty much instantly was minimized down to almost nothing. I can still trigger it when I use my left arm and reach for something, and it is associated with the TE shifting positions. So get a fill if you can- it made all the difference for me. If on a fill in the future I go back to that type of pain I am going to have the doc either drain it or add more to make it shift again off of the pressure points or whatever it is called when that happens. Hope you feel better-

Hi Happyteacher. I just had fill #4 and it was a tremendous relief. While I can still feel the stretch, this fill did move the TE off of whatever nerves it was hitting. I couldn't believe the difference. Like you, certain movements will make it hit the nerve, but overall it's so much better!

I am so glad you are feeling better. I can so relate. The difference in the pain level is significant when the TE is in the wrong place compared to a better, more gentle location!

I was seven weeks post BMX with TEs this past Monday. I also noticed a change in my pain level after a fill a week ago. On what was my second fill appointment, my PS added 50cc in the right expander only to even me up. I now have 410cc in both. I still have tightness, but I am not experiencing the same level of discomfort I was having previously. Although I still take Advil occasionally (mainly on physical therapy days), I have not needed Norco for the past week. I am still on a five pound weight restriction for three more weeks; otherwise, I am functioning normally.

Sooo, has anyone held a powerful flashlight up to their TE in the dark? It's absolutely freaky. You can see every vein and the ports.I tried this a few weeks ago with a weaker flashlight and they just glowed red. You couldn't see EVERYTHING.

Funny - I'll have to try that!

Juliecc...LOL...literally. I needed that. My hair started falling out today in a meeting at work...seriously???? Went to get a hat, as I can't pick up wig until late Friday afternoon, got rear ended in the parking lot!!! The kids weren't with me, it was very minor and I am fine, just irritated.
Now, looks like I have a cold. When I saw MO today, white count was 1.8, guess that explains the cold. Think it is time to put myself in time out...in bed!!!
On the other hand, I have a job where I can work from home. When I go back Monday, it will just look like I got my hair done!!! Thankfully, I won't have to deal with it falling out at work.

Julie, leave it to you - lol! I tried the flashlight on my phone app, not so good, I'm investing in a strong flashlight tomorrow, we needed one anyways.

Lakegirl, you poor thing! You need a break!
Frostecat, I have this strong little flashlight from amazon. I took a picture of my boob but it's rather disturbing :-p I bought one of these for my boyfriend, too, so I know I'll shine them in both this weekend!

julie, I wonder why I never did that!!! LOL that's awesome! You know they'll be a LOT of us trying that out. LOL I wonder if implants look cool too? Hmmmmm.
Lake girl Julies right. You could use a break. Take whatever kind of break you can get. Even if it's just a flashlight and a mirror under the civer! LOL
Vfay and happy teacher. I am glad the fills helped with the pain. It's so very weird what happens.
Kelly I never heard anyone who did that. But it's got to be better for you than running into the door frames and I did that a LOT!!
Oh. Remember the mantra, Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should. Remember to give yourself the time to heal inside too.
MUCH LOVE TO ALL.

Julie - I have a feeling that Amazon will be wondering why they are suddenly having a run on those flashlights!

Yes probably! Low cost entertainment.

OMG! I'm waiting for a call from my Oncology nurse, and got bored, so guess what I did...
Yep! Got the big honkin' flashlight, went into my closet, bared The Girls, and turned out the light!
I can't believe how many VEINS showed up under the skin! Big ones! Or maybe they're blood vessels.... I don't know why that surprises me... I thought they scraped out everything during the BMX... guess that's why I have a lot of sensation in the skin.
I have saline implants, and Righty's port is pretty close to the surface, but I didn't notice it with the flashlight trick. Maybe it's clear, hard silicone, like the shell.
Juliecc - thanks greatly for this cheap entertainment!!! DH is eagerly looking forward to some after-dinner fun....

Ha ha the veins are the creepiest part! I was surprised too, they were like big spider webs. No wonder my bilateral mastectomy and TE placement took 6 hours. I guess they don't just scoop it all out. They need to preserve all those veins.

LOL. I just suggested people try it on the Exchange City Board! LOL

I can't believe I'm posting this but if you don't have a good flashlight, it looks like this. That dark fuzzy area near the top is the port of the expander. I swear if I had any BC left in there, I'd be able to see it!
My expanders are filled to 450cc and I'm just waiting for exchange in August. I'm actually sort of fond of them. I often go braless and they basically defy gravity. They are pretty comfortable, too, but I still can't sleep on my side. They are just too hard and they don't move anywhere.

Juliecc: I give it

If the electricity goes out, you can entertain the family. Try to make shadow puppets that will show through too.

Sandra, my kids would be mortified

But if the put the light under their nose I bet they'd like it. Mine used to do that. Also in your mouth....

so I woke up to this thread after a somewhat restless night (I am v happy w my TEs, but they are sometimes make it hard to find a comfortable sleeping position) and just laughed out loud. A lot.
Thanks!! I needed that!!
