A friend came by yesterday with a half dozen roses. I am doing much better. Waiting on a skin biopsy to see if it is cancerous. It is always dangerous to go to a doctor because you can go in with one problem and out with another. Shingles and rash are much improved! I thought I would try my hand at some indoor shots. Can't tell for sure if it is in focus but the best I could do.

Bandwoman I wish you all the best and hope you get a benign result.

I just sat down after massaging Rose Hand cream into my hands and opened the thread to see your beautiful rose, it was amazing to see it while I was smelling that fragrance on my hands!

Thank you Ariom. That would make for an interesting futuristic picture wouldn't it. Pictures with fragrances. I am still waiting on results. My shingles and other rash are coming to and end. So grateful!

This is my photo of the HMS Surprise that was in the movie

"Master and Commander." She is now part of the San Diego Maritime Museum

and at times makes a run out to sea...I took this when I was out myself on a day cruise on a

new destroyer, the USS Sprague as a guest. You can see the crew on the sailing ship

was in costume raising the sails...it was just a fluke that land was not in the picture as

    we were close to Coronado..

This is one of my favorite photos..

So many beautiful roses and I love that sunset, ready for another vacation!!!!! The pale old fashioned roses always remind me of my grandfathers garden and I can recall the fragrance from childhood.

Lisa, that ship is gorgeous. I can understand why that photo is a favorite. I love the way you have captured the detail in the sails, and the contrast gives it a special quality. Lovely!!

Nancy I am so glad the shingles are getting better. No word on biopsy yet? Hopefully that is a good sign!

I have decided to take a break from the tamoxifen. My cognitive skill is down with lapses in memory and I have brain fog. I have tried so many things on the sleep front but my fitbit is telling me what I thought all along, that I am only sleeping 4 to 5 hours. I looked in the mirror and I could see my mom when she was 10 years older than me and very sick. I think the lack of sleep is making me even more grumpy than usual (than grumpy cat?!) even at work. I could not find my pass yesterday and I got the run around and I was rude. Eventually I found it in my purse of course. Then I could not find my car keys, they were in my purse... but my routine had been messed up because of the pass issue so they were not in the normal spot on my desk. Then I freaked over a big discrepancy in my bank bal. when I went to ATM. DH found I wrote him a check that I did not put in my register and also managed to somehow not copy to the counterfoil. It just goes on and on like that. I zone out in work meetings. I do plenty of exercise and take vitamins but have no energy and on days I work I have to go lay in bed once I am done. It sounds odd but I don't have much close family left, just DH, dog, and 85 year old stepfather, and I want to enjoy time now that I am working less. Its all about QOL. I see ONC next month and hopefully they will do a full panel and I may start taking it again but for now I need a break.. Thats my whine for the day.

Anyway Happy Friday Ladies!! Its so sunny here!!

I got good news in MyChart today. The biopsy was benign. Whew!

Lisa, Such a beautiful picture of the ship.

Lizzysmom, I am so sorry to hear of all of your SE issues. If I was still working I might have made the same choice in my situation. Hopefully the break will help get you feeling back to normal. My drug I think is affecting my emotions which is hard to deal with. My shingles rash started itching today again and I was thinking back to when I had them before. I think the same thing happened and I am not sure if I was put on the meds twice but I remember going to urgent care on Memorial Day. I would have normally been marching with our junior high bands that day so it is a vivid memory. Hope you have a restful weekend.

Thanks Lizzysmom. My shingles have not given me any more problems today so I will chalk it up to dry skin!

Lisa, I have never seen that flower before. What is it?

    lyzzysmom Member Posts: 285

Lisa, that flower is so unusual!

I have been a bit off the last couple of days and stayed in bed this weekend but felt much better this afternoon and the stars were lovely when I took the dog out so I suddenly got an urge to do a star trail. Have not tried one in a long while but was pleased with the result with this camera and lens. Now I need to find a better spot than my deck to get a decent composition but you can see the pole star bottom left.

14mm f2.8 iso 400 30seconds about 45 photos stacked. I set the camera to take multiples and locked the remote release then went indoors and watched tv for 20 mins or so while it did its thing. When I find a good location I will leave it for longer.

Lizzysmom, that is very cool. I am not sure I understand what is happening. I understand taking many pictures over time but not sure why they look like that. It almost looks like a succession of shooting stars. Do you have to have a very fast lens to be able to do this. It looks like something I would like to explore even though around here the residential area has too much light that messes with the night sky.

Very cool. Hope you are feeling better. You have had a time with your meds. I hope taking a vacation from Tamoxifen will help.

Leaving for my mom's tomorrow and will be there a week. I am seriously thinking of taking some workshops with a local pro. He is quite expensive but only take a small amount for his classes so it sounds like there could be lots of individual attention. Those kind of workshops would work more for my back and forth schedule to my moms rather that a long course through one of the colleges. How is your course coming. With you not feeling well and working I know you have a lot on your plate. Hope you have a nice Thanksgiving.

Nancy, I hope you and your mom have an enjoyable Thanksgiving.

Taking a class would be fun. I took a workshop in Boston about 18 months ago, just a half day, and enjoyed it. I found a photography club that does night photography and is not too far away so I may contact them if I feel like it in the Spring as I would love to try the Milky Way. Massachusetts is not ideal light wise but I don't see myself going out in the middle of the desert in the west. I did one pic for my course this week but its really boring, a basketball, Its just for the angle of the light. Now I need to do some reading and listen to some CDS. I hope to finish my third module by the end of the year.

The star trails turn out like that because if the camera is angled to the north the heavens gradually appear to rotate around the pole star over time so lots of short exposures set to infinity ( I used manual focus) will pick up that rotation and when stacked will give that rotating line affect. Then photoshop can brighten and help bring them out more. The faster the lens the lower the iso which I think helps but I only had a regular kit lens the first time I tried and I got trails. I also set the white balance to incandescent to get rid of the effect of street lamps. It is actually better where I live now as the town replaced the light outside our house with one that is much whiter although the the level of light is high. I just shut the blinds at the back of the house to reduce the light on the deck a bit.

    Ok, here is that basketball.

    Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!!

Oh Lisa its lovely to see those gorgeous roses. The lighting on the white roses is particularly pretty! We are expecting a snow storm here tomorrow but I hope to get a break to a warmer climate soon!

Lisa, beautiful roses. Keep them coming. It will give me something to look forward to in the spring!

Lizzysmom, I wish by osmosis I could learn all you are about lighting without having to study it myself. LOL For some reason I just can't get excited about that part of photography which of course is key to any good photo. I know that basketball shot had to take lots of understanding how lighting affects the subject. I have taken photos where I can see a shadow of myself looking 10ft tall. I imagine you could explain that to me now. Well, getting away to warm weather sounds like a plan to me. Hope you can do it soon.

Take care. Is the reading and listening to CD's part of your photography course?

Hello Ladies, I thought you may be interested in an Aussie Christmas. My Daughter asked for a picture when I finished. It is super hot here today and I have just decorated my entrance for Christmas. It is a beach, coastal theme with Starfish, Clear glass balls, lights and Shells, on the Jade Plants, by the front door.

It can be over 100F on Christmas Day, so we have all cold food at my house. Some do the traditional feast, but we go mainly for seafood and salads.

Lisa, the roses are gorgeous, a beautiful collection!!

Nancy, I am in a warmer spot at the moment so have not been on-line much ( I don't say much on public internet) but I have got some new photos to post. The CDs and DVDs are part of the course. I tend to get more critical of myself so have a problem deciding what to submit for evaluation but still hoping to get unit 3 done by the end of the year, which will be nearly halfway through.

Ariom, I do like a warm Christmas. 20+ years ago I went to Goa in India, and it turned out that 75% of the population was Catholic so they celebrated Christmas. There was a little Nativity Scene set up in the sand and children for the local school came round to the restaurant where we were eating one night, dressed as angels and shepherds, singing carols while their teacher played guitar.

The fishing boats went out in the morning and everyone had lobster and giant shrimp for Christmas dinner!

Your entrance is beautiful too. I love the wood, so chic and contemporary!!

Here are a few new pics. I have some bird pics too.

Thank you Lizzysmom! What a lovely Christmas memory you have.

I love having the casual Christmas that has the meal start at lunchtime and continue on all day.

Would you believe, the previous owners had painted over those Cedar doors, we took the chance that they could be brought back to their former, lovely timber. It took 3 full days and I can't remember how many coats of oil, to finish them . I love them!

Thank you Lisa, as much as I would love to take the credit for the job, alas, my RA has put an end to my DIY, there was a time I'd have done this myself, but it took 2 men,3 days, to get these doors to look like this again. Hopefully they will last a long time!

Lisa, I love all your photos. I was fortunate enough to travel to San Diego for my job. I am in the market for a new camera. What kind of camera do you use when you photograph your shore birds... Thanks, Jan
