Lisa. . .I love photographing soccer, particularly dd's games. It has been a mixed blessing though. I was diagnosed in the middle of her freshman season and this year I've struggled with days when it hurts to shoot withe my new camera and the zoom lens. Probably should not have tried to photograph the botanical gardens before her game yesterday. Hope your arm is now on the road to being healed.

    Hi ladies,

Loving all the pictures. Nature and soccer. I have been at my mom's downstate. She has dementia and I spend about a third of the year with her. She is still living alone. She just turned 90. This is her below that I took on Sunday before leaving for church. My sister lives in her same town and we tag team and we have minimum caregivers at this point. She always hates to see me leave. I just got back home last night. I am getting the itch to buy a new DSLR camera. We'll see if it gets scratched.Happy Lisa, it sounds like you are doing well. How long do they expect before full recovery?

Scottie, I bought the same camera Lisa has for my bird photography because I am not able to handle a heavy lens because of a neck surgery. Her shots were so great I asked her what camera she used. I was surprised when she told me. I think Lisa could take great pics with a disposable camera! I am impressed with one handed shots. I have had to do that a few times when the sun was in my eyes and I was trying to get some egret shots. Thank goodness it is pretty lightweight and does do a good job.

Nancy, nice photo of your Mom...I wish mine lived closer, I am on the West Coast and she is in Florida. She is 95 and she chose to live there. I wanted her to come to California, but she is afraid of earthquakes..I am lucky she has no dementia to speak of.

I was just looking out of the kitchen window and saw this little butterfly still around. No monarch, but very pretty.

That's too bad that you can't get your mom to live in California. I can't even get my mom to visit me anymore. Her home is her comfort zone and she doesn't like to stray too far. I am going to post a butterfly that I posted a few months ago. I wanted to compare it to yours because it looks similar.

    image

I was showing some retirees some of my butterfly pics and one of the former forth grade teachers said we used to study those in class. I can't remember what iti was now. It looks somewhat similar but hard to tell. I didn't realize there is another butterfly that looks so much like a Monarch but not. I can't remember that name either. There is a new thread started recently that someone brought to my attention. You ladies might submit some of your photographs. It is for artists, photographers and jewelry makers to name a few. I will have to go back and paste the link if you are interested.

Amazing butterfly photos. Lisa, you should enter the second one in a photography contest. I got my birthday present early today. Turning "29" in December so it's a big present.. . .I'm waiting for the weekend and one additional piece from Amazon so I can hook my DSLR up to my new Celestron telescope and start my new journey into astro-photography. With any luck I will be photographing the stars and planets soon.

I hear you Lisa. I have more than enough on my plate without adding a new hobby. I love photography though and have always been fascinated by astronomy. Now I can combine them.

We're taking the Celestron and all my cameras to the Okeefenokee for Thanksgiving and are attending an astronomy night there so I have a month to learn how to use my new toy. They also have an astronomy club in Atlanta that dh wants to join. It will be a family affair.

Lisa, love your hummer. Interesting that some migrate and some stay.

Scottie, your new toys sound great. There was another lady that used to post that really loved photographing the stars. Have fun.

I finally was able to get out and get some fall colors before it is too late. Here are a few from today.

Lisa, love seeing the pictures of the flowers and butterflies. I am feeling a bit sad that our season for that has come to an end. I have been out searching for notecard paper and I am just stuck. Lisa, I think you are the one that told me what software you used in printing notecards. Could you tell me what it was again. I have scrolled back to find the post and can't find it.

I saw many kinds of paper but my printer doesn't give me the option for the sizes that I saw for certain types of paper. I know there has to be a way around this. I just need to figure it out. I am also wondering if it would be cheaper to have them professionally printed as I have been spending a small fortune on cartridges make photo albums for friends and family.

Scottie, had a chance to play around with your new toy for astronomy?

Any help would be appreciate. Thanks.

    I use Printer Shop

I also just use card stock I get by the ream. I use the small size cards but don't print on the inside so basically I am printing half a sheet and then the other end. Then I cut them down the center. Uses very little ink.

I also use stock stationary you can get at a business paper store

Thanks Lisa. I just about finished a photo album I am working on of 5 by 7 inch. I was shocked at how expensive it was to have that size printed so I opted to print them myself. I didn't like how the 4 by 6 would crop my pictures in bad ways. The cartridges are so expensive it is hard to know what is cheaper in the long run.

I talked to one of the companies that print and also sell paper to print yourself. I was almost getting the feeling that it would be cheaper to have them printed as to the paper cost and the cartridge expense. I guess it depends on what you are doing with the photo.

Are you using your photos in your cards? What size card is the end product and is it two folded. Trying to understand what you meant by cutting out the middle.

I will check out Printer Shop. I think I saw that when I was looking today. Does this software have different size templates where you can adjust your size through the software?

I appreciate all of your input. How is your arm coming along?

    Thanks.

bandwoman. . .I have used various versions of the Printshop Deluxe to make cards and other paper products for years. FYI, I did not like the Print Shop Professional.

    Print Shop Deluxe

I also found a great online paper source. . .they sent me samples to show customers who wanted cards of a certain color/texture. Marco's Paper in ohio.

    Marco's Paper

I have a number of their cardstocks and even printed wedding invitations and announcements for people on them.

    Hope this helps,

Thanks Scottie for the info. I tried doing one of those design your photo on a mug sites. Didn't turn out as expected so I sent off for more and tried some different things. So much we can do with our photos.

Lisa, I haven't got my mail today yet. I have been gone for most of the afternoon and my mailbox is down the street. Looking forward to the sample.

    Take care.

My cat had to have unexpected surgery this week so that has been difficult. Giving a cat pain meds is not easy but she is doing better than she was. She had several trips to the vets and finally they found out she had a pretty big stone in her bladder that had to come out. I was able to get out to take some pics of the Healing Field of flags as they have done several times in the past. There are over 2000 flags and people buy them in honor of someone or a group of veterans etc. I had to hurry as I was in a no parking zone and it started sprinkling. I will show a few of them.

We honor all of our veterans and for the service and sacrifice they made to make our nation free. I know Lisa and her DH are veterans. Are there any more out there? There were playing patriotic music from the Carillon (bell tower). It was quite moving.
