I'm trying to grow edible plants again this summer. I have tried so many times in the last 7 years and been defeated by the chipmunks, squirrels and bunnies. But since coronavirus, I decided to try to grown some fresh produce in case it gets scarce or super expensive. What used to be my strawberry garden that I then switched to flowers in defeat is now back to 3 giant sunflowers, green beans and poblano pepper. In containers I have a cherry tomato plant, cucumbers that I'll attempt to grow on a tomato cage?, romaine lettuce and oregano, basil, chives and parsley.

I am seriously suffering from a lack of flowers though. Is there a Flowerholics Anonymous? By the time I got to the garden shop, there weren't too many annuals to plant. I'm not sure if they ordered less or if I was just two weeks late, which I was, so I just bought one prepotted flower pot for my front porch. I added to the porch my fairy garden that was indoors and put out an orchid that wasn't doing well inside. Along my walk I usually plant all in annuals. I ended up moving some sedums and some alyssum that sprouted from last year's seed and am trying hard to be satisfied with that. Then on my deck I moved my other fairy garden and a succulent pot that were also indoors. Trying to make do with those and my perennials but I don't like it!

Harvested 4 cucumbers and 2 egg plants along with 9 bell peppers today. Tomatoes aren’t ripe yet.

Found a skillet egg plant dish that I am going to try and a new-to-me cucumber salad to try.

Jazzygirl—- ohhhh. Would love that in my yard.

    Did you purchase it?

    So pretty

Dodgers- no because it has been so darned hot here this summer (105 yesterday and forecasted to be this hot for WEEK), and know it probably won't make it. Instead I bought a trumpet vine which does do well here and going to replace a eunonymous along my back yard wall that got a bad case of scale that has pretty much destroyed it. In the process of taking that out and the trumpet vine will do nicely and grow along that wall and do better. I just had to take the photo though as I had never seen a hibiscus flower that big before.

I will post a trumpet vine when it is in and blooming. They are blooming right now all over the city and a favorite of mine.

I've seen a few trumpet vines here and they are gorgeous. I'm sure you'll love it.

Jazzygirl— I bet the trumpet vine will be so pretty!

It’s been really hot here, too. Heat indexes back in the 100s this week

I planted a container cucumber plant this year instead of the usual plants. The plant stays contained but produces lots of 6” cucumbers. I made refrigerator pickles last week and see that I have another 3-4 cubes ready to pick tomorrow so will make bread and butter pickles this week. Yummy.

Tomatoes are starting to turn red. Bell peppers are producing nicely.

My sun patiens are blooming like crazy but Gerber daisies aren’t overflowing. Each plant has 4-6 blooms and they are pretty but the plants themselves aren’t growing large.

This is my first batch - I have about 20+ more on the plants!

All my flowers seem to be done for the moment.
