Lucy- nice kitchen and hubs look quite serviceable. I mean good looking and good to you for cooking muffins!

I slept almost all day. Not usually a good sign for me. Not sure what's up. Maybe just tired from all the cleaning, cooking, enjoying, emotion, cleaning, rinse and repeat. But good ole Jack my therapy dog never leaves my side. Tutti has been sequestered for the night, much to her annoyance, to avoid any "tricking" tonight.

To those dangling the peanut butter cups:

    This:

"Justin's Organic Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups"

Take 2 and call me in the morning! That's definitely in my emergency kit!

Good evening crazies!!! I am back from my mini-vacay for our 15th anniversary....just in time to say goodbye to October, (and good riddance, for that matter, other than the getaway)...We had perfect weather (which is often the case in October on the California north central coast) and we did a lot of walking, a bit of bicycling, and a lot of resting and reading, and hit a few of the Monterey Peninsula tourists spots, both old favorites (walking on the paths at Asilomar) and new to us (toured the Carmel Mission). Did a bit of retail therapy: stuff for the grandkids and hit the hat store in Carmel for me. A bald girl can't have too many hats, right?

We also cooked in our cute cottage near the sea and ate out a fair amount, though unfortunately, my taste buds haven't recovered fully from chemo round three less than two weeks ago, so in all honesty I mostly enjoyed the concept of going to really good restaurants (something we don't have in my small town) more than the reality. I did find a new (to me) wonderful bakery three blocks from our cottage where I had the best chocolate croissant of my life, well ok, of my life outside of Paris perhaps. The apple danish was fabulous also. If you are ever in Pacific Grove, check it out: Pavel's on Forest Street. Recommended. Sweets are the one taste that seems to be fully present this chemo round. All other tastes are either only ok, or downright yuck. So um yeah, we also ate lots of ice cream!

On this morning's walk we watched some scuba divers get out of the water after a dive, near Lover's Cove in Pacific Grove. We found a favorite bench there to watch the ocean and rest part way through our walks, and hubby told me he thought we should come back and make sure the bench was still there for anniversary number thirty. Got to love the guy. As for me, I made a pledge to myself to try and get back in the water (to dive or at least to snorkel) on New Year's Day. Remember that and remind me someone, ok?

Going to watch the Series tonight (go Mets, not that I care that much, but they aren't the Royals, which makes them favorites in my book, as well as being underdogs..). Sending love and hugs to all the crazies! I missed you! Thinking good thoughts for all of you. Will try and catch up, and maybe even post a few pics, tomorrow...

    ((((hugs))))

Noddy- yikes! So sorry. Welcome to Crazytown! You've made quite an entrance. I'd like to cancel October for you, wish I had such power. Anyway you are safe and welcome here. Will be sending positive thoughts and mojo for your test on Monday. Stay close, ok? We get it.

Hello fine ladies!! Thank you for reaching out to me in 'Deer in Headlights'. I would like to officially join you in CrazyTown! Might as well jump on in.

Noddy, I hope your result is benign, will be thinking of you on Monday... but if not, my other breast was treated as a new primary, same treatment, lump and rads, then life went on, still good odds. I know it is hard and oh so scary. I have the fine pleasure of having this for the 3rd time. Just found out Friday. Hoping for the best for you

Notagain- Not again! I'm so sorry for the reason you are here. But Crazytown is a very special place. You are very welcome here. It's a guilt-free zone for ranting, worrying about all stuff, real and feared to be real. Along the way we try to laugh a bit, and enjoy a bit of food porn.

Never worry about what you need to say, and never, ever apologize fir what you've said. It's a safe place.

Again, welcome. And sending a hug.

Wow, Noddy, what a night! Thank goodness everyone seems to be OK. Hopefully your ultrasound will turn out to be something benign, since your oncologist isn't too concerned. In the meantime, come join us in Crazy Town, you are in good company!

Katy, dark chocolate peanut butter cups sounds like a great idea.

Octo, sounds like your trip was fun and relaxing. I'm conflicted about the World Series, don't like either team at this point - the Royals because they're my old boyfriend's team (and who wants him to win? Smile), or the Mets because they swept the Cubs in the NLCS. I can't believe Rios lost track of how many outs there were in the 3rd inning! We can all count to three, and I've never lost track of how many outs were in a game I was watching, let alone one I was playing in. OK, rant over.

NotAgain, glad you joined us. The great thing about Crazy Town is that all the residents all know how stressful this is - it's right on the label!

    Ducky, what happened??

    Jan, bread sounds great.

Lucy, what a nice thing that DH is getting the muffins ready. He looks like a careful person, who does not leave drips of muffin batter all over the place, too. That's a good thing!

Noddy, I don't blame you for not liking October. Good luck on Monday!

Tomboy, just stunning. Such a powerful image.

Katy, you've been working to be a good host. You're allowed to take the day off and sleep! Nothing sinister about that!

Welcome back, Octo! So....just one more chemo and you're done, right? And you get to keep the hats! Because they look good on people with hair, too!

And welcome, NotAgain! You're in the right place--but you've probably figured that out!

Um, the Mets. I was rooting for the Cubs because I used to live in Chicago. But now the Mets. Unfortunately, we are a house divided, as DH was born in Missouri. Big sigh.

Today's highlight was the doggie costume contest in the park across the street. There were over 150 dogs entered: a whole raft of Donald Trumps, lions (one with a witch and a wardrobe), and pizza rats. Also a dog dressed up as Elizabeth Taylor, another as Maid Marion (its humans were Robin Hood and Friar Tuck), and another as a piece of sushi. Yes, there do seem to be many people out there with time on their hands! One of my favorites was a dog dressed as a referee. His human, who was about 7 months pregnant, was dressed as a basketball player, with her bare belly made up as the basketball! Too funny.

Afterwards, we sat on the stoop for a while and handed out candy, then took a walk around the nabe. Now there is a bowl of candy leftovers in the kitchen. I'm in the living room. I'm WAY too tired to make it as far as the kitchen, right? No candy there, nosiree. No no no....dang.

Tomorrow is the NY Marathon, which goes just a block away from us. And the joyful, once a year extra hour of sleep! Good night, crazies!

My conclusion after watching most of this year's Series: I think it would be almost as hard to be a Mets fan as it would be to be a Cubbies fan....good thing I don't care that much! (I'm watching mostly for the Buster Posey commercials :-))

    Hi Everyone!

Ducky, What happened? I hope you are okay.

Notagain, Welcome to Crazy Town! 3 times! That's 3 times too many! Cancer stinks!

Noddy, Wow! You have good reasons to dread October. When camping in the Sierras, my son got an ember in his eye. His cornea was burned, but he recovered completely, with no vision problems. I hope your brother's gf recovers as well as my son did.

Octo, loved reading your update. I love that area of Ca.

    Tomboy, Love the ribbon!

I thought I would post a picture of my middle son in his Halloween costume.

    Good Evening Crazies,

    First things first....

Ducky, I'm shocked to hear this and VERY worried about you. I sent you a message. Please let us know how you're doing when you can. I'm praying it's nothing too serious. Love you!!

Noddyneevy, Welcome to our thread!! So glad you found us!!

    image

Sorry for your October troubles. Firecrackers can be so dangerous. I'm very happy to hear the injuries weren't too serious. Tomorrow is a brand new month!! Next year you can skip October and go right to November. In fact, you should rip October right out of your calendar!! We are always here to listen. When I was growing up in Rockaway, one of the guys that worked in the pet store lost his eye to a firecracker. He ended up getting a glass eye. All of us kids thought his new eye was pretty cool. A sentiment I'm sure he didn't share.

Notagain, Welcome to our thread!!! I'm so glad you decided to join us!!

    image

Please pull up a comfy chair and get your crazy on. You'll love the ladies here. All very different and equally wonderful. Our crazy unites us all. We will be with you every step of the way!! Very sorry you're having to deal with this for a third time.

Notagain and Noddy, Here is your official Crazy Town kit. It consists of a flashlight to see all the new lumps and bumps in the dark, a magnifying glass to get a closer look, and mirror for the hard to see areas. We also include coconut oil because you can use it on EVERYTHING (ask ItalyChick). Our beautiful Tomboy is in the process of compiling a medicine bag for each one of us. I can't wait to hear about all the wonderful things she's added to the bag!!

Lucy, Yes, you're right. The holidays will make the time pass quicker. Morning tea! I've always loved hearing about tea time in Australia and England. It sounds so fancy to me. I've got this really OLD teapot that was my Grandmother's. My Dad used to jiggle the lid when he was young and it cracked. So my Grandmother's glued it back together. I've always been afraid to use it, so I just keep it in my curio cabinet. Your kitchen looks so pretty! I love the subway tiles. My DH is a baker too! I bet our guys would get along well.

Queen, We had a lot of kids, but not as many as last year. We turn out our lights at 8 when the older kids come out. We bought two BIG bags of candy at Sam's Club. The leftovers went to my DD and her BF. My DH kept just a little for himself. I WAS GOOD - only one piece.

PTS, I know some of the churches around here do carnivals for the kids. I would miss seeing the little ones if they didn't come around.

Katy, I always feel a little let down after I've had fun events with family or friends. All that preparation and it's over so quickly - makes me sad. Sending big hugs to you! So nice that you have sweet Jack to cuddle. Don't forget your virtual bear, Brownie!! He is holding you close.

    Octo, Welcome home!!

    image

Loved hearing about your vacation. Sounds like you had a wonderful time for the exception of the taste buds. The bakery sounds wonderful. My DH and I will definitely check it out the next time we are up that way.

Tomboy, Your pink ribbon is perfect!! I think Crazy Town may need an art gallery for all of your beautiful art pieces. IMPRESSIVE!!!

Rain, So much fun reading about the doggie contest. What a hoot that must have been.

I had a great night out at my nephews. The kids all looked adorable. I was able to walk a bit while they went trick or treating. The dinner was delicious, as always - my niece is an excellent cook. We missed our Wisconsin boys, but they did text us a picture of their costumes. It was nice to get out and about.

Guess I rambled on enough. I'm really worried about our Ducky and I hope she gives us more info tomorrow. I'm also worried about Sula. I hope the shingles aren't back. I hear that can be nasty.

Sleep well beautiful crazies.....quiet crazies too!!

Speaking of bakeries, Poppy, do you remember when you, 2TA and I drove all over Oceanside looking for that bakery??? hahaha When Octo mentioned the bakery, it reminded me of that time!!!

Wow, my heart goes out to Notagain and to everyone else deep in the heart of Crazytown. Today I was thinking how I wish that I didn't get so anxious and say a bunch of dumb things at the doctor's office, because now they all probably think I'm a loon. So I made this little FB meme, I'm thinking of making a coffee mug or something out of it... what do you all think?

We had “only" 670 kids on our block (based on one piece of candy per kid), down from 800 last year which was a new low. (We average 1200, and a couple of years ago had 2000). Last year we gave out 13 lbs. and ran out while older kids were still coming around. Started about 4pm and by 8:30 the street was deserted, so I went inside and turned off the porch light. Unlike in years past, no stragglers came up the stairs & knocked on the door. (Maybe the CTA train derailment at Granville, which closed off traffic on B'way at Norwood--this on top of construction--discouraged parents from outside the neighborhood from driving in). We have 2 lbs. left. C'mon over.

We too are a house divided: DH & I grew up in NYC, met at Brooklyn College and got married on L.I.; and I was at the last game of the '69 World Series. So we rooted for the Mets (especially against the Dodgers, whom I still resent for leaving Brooklyn....even though I did, too). But our son is a native Midwesterner, having been born in Chicago; and has friends from KC. So he is cheering for the Royals.

And my friend Meg Braun (with whom I played a few writers’ rounds at Folk Alliance and NERFA conferences) is running the NYC Marathon and has put my name on her singlet, along with other friends & relatives with breast cancer. I am honored & humbled!
