Katy- Diatomaceous Earth, food grade not pool grade. Can be found at feed stores. Works well on ants and is safe for both humans and pets.
Linking some info for you.

((Funthing)). Do what you can to distract yourself.
Katy, so sorry about that greenhouse--tomatoes have been tricky around these parts the past couple of years, and it’s frustrating when something that helps them along gets trashed. Any way you can make Tutti an indoor kitty? Ours always have been (though in the past a couple liked to escape and munch on grass or roll around in the backyard schmutz)--but we live in the city, where the outdoor cats themselves are in greater peril than are their prey. How much are new hoop-and-clear-tarp greenhouses these days, and can you keep them anchored? Nothing is safe from gale force winds, of course. We had several container plants knocked over on our deck last summer till we bit the bullet and transplanted them into heavy clay planters.
Ants are really frustrating, and I’m not sure if there’s any such thing as a pet-safe ant trap. Might be worth a consult from an exterminator to find a way to nab them at the points of entry. One summer we had carpenter ants sneaking in from the deck. No fun.

Katy, I hate chemicals. What I do is follow the ant trail and find their nest, then flood the crap out of it with water. I just keep flooding their holes until I see them start carrying their eggs out. I have also taped over entry points where they are coming in to the house.

thanks for all of the suggestions and links, ladies! I'll try anything but toxic chemicals. Robin- I've used DE for fleas. Theresa- I have a pretty good idea what their entrance points are. I guess I'll don my pit helmet and butterfly net.
Sandy- there is absolutely no way Tutti would stand it. She drives me crazy as it is. In. Out. In. She's a big mouth and a PITA. And gets away with so much. She has brought me rats and mice as presents too. So she does get some leeway. The greenhouse was super well-anchored. It didn't break at the bottom. All the pvc connections broke. I won't get another. I wouldn't have bought this one. It came with the house.
Funthing- many hugs coming your way.

{{{Funthing}}} Hope you find a path forward and soon!
Jersey, hope the vacillating medics make up their minds!
Katy, that is such a sad little picture. And I hope your furry companion is standing in the corner (ideally the one where the ants are coming out of).
Sending Korean food through the tubes to anyone who wants it! Had Korean sushi--which seems to involve highly seasoned beef and pickles and fresh vegetables rather than raw fish. Was actually quite good. And some sort of sweet bean cake. And I have my prostheses; the bras are on order! Today is the first day in months that I've not worn a turtleneck or a high-necked shirt--that fresh air on my radiated chest is a new and not completely welcome sensation. Oh well!
A friend of mine is talking about starting a cookbook club. Be still, my heart!

my mom's old ant thing involved boiling water it may seem cruel but do,find it works,

((Funthing)) The words, "I'm sorry" doesn't seem adequate in this situation. We are here for you.
Chickadee, welcome! I did not have those symptoms. Ultrasounds do take a lot of time, and there is a lot of clicking and measuring. Hopefully everything they are measuring will turn out to be just benign features.
Katy, I'm glad you saved the woodpecker, they are good birds to have around, keeping the bug population in check naturally. That is a bummer about your greenhouse. It looks like it was basically a tent, so I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did.
I saw my PCP's nurse practitioner yesterday. It's too soon to be seeing any effect from the longer term anxiety medication, but in the meantime, she's encouraging me to try taking the Xanax during the day (I only take it before bedtime on weekdays). I just don't like the idea of taking it during the day while I'm at work, though. It seems wrong, for reasons I can't identify.
Waving to all the Crazies!

No harm in trying just once, Cubbie. Maybe everyone else in the office already took theirs before work!
Rain, Korean sushi sounds really yummy!
Welcome Funthing.
And oh no Katy! That's dreadful!
Are dreadful days catching?!?

Cubbie, when I had postpartum depression+anxiety, at one point I was on 6 mg (!) of Xanax daily. I took it down to 2 mg/day (1 mg BID), then tapered down to .5 mg BID, then .25 mg BID, .25 mg at bedtime and finally .25 mg. at bedtime every other night. I was on it for a year and a half, and was taking it during the daytime (and functioning, though I didn’t hold down a fulltime job outside the home) for the first year. Just be careful to taper off gradually.

You guys are fun and supportive it's impossible for me to crawl in a hole. I'm coping and licking my wounds and picking out wigs again just in case. I've gone to the dark side.

Chickadee: a somewhat belated welcome! I present you with the Temporary Welcome Basket of a triple-shot cappuccino with Ativan sprinkles, watercress/avocado crustless sandwiches, your own rocking chair on the porch and a rabbit hole as necessary, though we'll do our best to pull you out of it

Tomboy, there's probably some truth to that!
Thanks, Sandy. I figured someone here would have some personal experience to share. BCO is great!

Vice Mayor Queen! Awesome basket. I was wondering if I could leave and come back in., haha

Hi. Yesterday I had reconstruction on the cancer breast and a reduction on the other. Ouch. Gotta love these drains. hahahaaa The pain is pretty bad but I'm not shy with the painkillers so I'm getting by.
My question to all of you is, when did you get your staging report? Do I wait until I see the MO or does my BS tell me? She mentioned that it probably be at lease a Stage 2 but she's not positive.
Also, I'm waiting for genetics testing.
So once again I'm back with you in crazy town. I really hate all of this waiting!
0 -
Mags- good to hear from you. Keep taking good care if yourself. I used a lot of ice packs for pain relief also.
I think people might get their path results from either BS or MO. I got mine from my MO, since my surgeon was a cut and run sort of fellow. And he was the one who ordered the Oncotype and estradiol tests, without which the staging info was an incomplete picture, IMO.
Good luck and try not to worry about that for now. It's good to stay ahead of the pain, which will allow your body to focus on healing. Stay close and keep us posted, ok?

Sandy, Thanks for the info on your DH. That is very encouraging information and I'm wondering if I should just let it go for awhile and see what it does. This is a lung nodule that was re-scanned from a July scan. In July it was 6mm and now it's 1.5cm. The Pulmonologist was concerned about how quickly it's grown. They are telling me due to the location of the nodule, it can't be biopsied. That's why they want me to do the PET scan on the 18th. They are also checking for other areas of concern. If that is the only area, they said I could have surgery to have it removed. This will be my first PET scan. The Pulmonologist that I had the consultation with thinks it's either a metastasis or a new cancer. I guess there is no way to know for sure unless they cut it out.
Unfortunately the letter wasn't accurate. The PCP office said when they sent the letter they were only referring to the head and neck portion of my scan. Can you imagine? The letter said your CT scan was normal....no mention of just the head and neck portion of the scan. Oh well.....wishful thinking on my part. I'm no worse off than I was before, so I'll just move forward with the new tests. One day at a time!!
On to other more pleasant things!! Thank you, thank you for all your well wishes!! You are ALL such a wonderful group of amazing women. I just feel so fortunate to have you all in my life.
Lucy I'm home!! hahaha How are you twinnie??? My DD said she will have kids when she's 30. That is 2.5 years away. I'll enjoy stories of your grands and the rest of the ladies in the meantime.
Ducky, You are always on my mind. Love you! Miss you like crazy.
Molly, I hope your vertigo has improved. I also experienced vertigo some time after treatment. Especially when I was in bed. The whole room would spin. That hasn't happened to me in a long time though. I wondered if it was treatment related. Perhaps we need a vertigo thread!!
Octo, My DH used to watch Downton Abbey with me too....until the fourth season. I won't say why, but I'm sure you know why he stopped watching. I don't want to ruin it for anyone that hasn't seen the series yet. After the fourth season , I became a solo watcher.
JAN, I hope you've continued to improve!! We have a little over two weeks to get you well!!
Eggroll, Thinking of you and hope you're feeling better too!!
Katy, I would love to see a full picture of that quilt! Quilts just fascinate me. I know I've said this before, your bread looks amazing. DH and I will try your same technique next time. He is growing a sourdough starter for our next loaf. I'm thinking maybe you weren't meant to have a greenhouse. I bet better things are in store for that area!! Stinkin' wind!! I think we may need to put a leash on Tutti the hunter.
Iris, You could always spend some of your tax money on travel!! Maybe to a place that's warm in the winter? Say maybe......California? hehe I LOVE Chinese food. My favorite childhood place was on Central Avenue in Far Rockaway, NY. I can't remember the name, but we ate there often when I was a kid. I've never been able to get GOOD Chinese food here in CA.
Robin, I'm glad your Reclast infusion was uneventful. Were you able to get your MMJ card?
Tomboy, Ice cream is my go to stress reducer!! That dessert looked sooooo good!!
Jersey, Waving in the direction of the tree house. I hope Glynn is tolerating the chemo well. So nice of you to go sit with him for a few hours. I hope your doctors make up their minds soon.
QM, I bet you look adorable with smutz on your face!! Pictures please!! haha I want one of those baskets too!!!!
Chickadeesy, Welcome to our thread!
I didn't have the milk let down feeling. Maybe another crazy will be along that did and can share that info with you. Sending best wishes and gentle hugs to you. I hope the ultrasound shows B9 results. Please let us know when you can. In the meantime, do your best to stay distracted if you can.
Rainy, YAY for proper bras and protheses!! The Korean food sounds wonderful. My children are 1/4 Korean so I've got a lot of experience with Korean food. I used to eat A LOT of kimchi. I'm happy to hear you're healing.
Octo, (((((((((hugs))))))))) hahahaha.....I just saw your post about retirement. Great minds!!
GMA, Good to see you posting! Cute picture. How is Dozer??
Tang, Any news on your appointment?? You've been in my thoughts.
Funthing, Gentle hugs to you my friend. I'm glad you're here with us. We will help get you through. You are not alone. Loved the dog picture.....gave me a good chuckle!!
Italy, I've never thought of flooding the ant hole. I'll have to try that next time. We use those Terro traps. It is a bit disturbing though because I think it draws all the ants in the neighborhood. They usually take about 24 hours to clear out. I guess I should rethink those chemicals. I just may add the addition of Iris' boiling water!! I HATE ants.
Cubbie, I think it's ok to utilize everything at our disposal to help us feel better. Maybe try 1/2 of one during the day? I don't take the Ativan anymore, but I'm a few years out from you. During treatment and for quite a long time after, I never hesitated to take what I needed.
Mags, Hugs to you!! Wishing you quick healing. If I remember correctly, my BS called me on the phone with my results. Then she went over everything at my next appointment. Sending extra love and sprinkles your way!
Sorry for the book. I get so behind when I miss a day. Tomorrow is Friday!! Hoooray!!
Love to all....quiet crazies too.

One old witchy woman I used to know ~ I kind of lost track of her ~ , told me to gather up some branches of the silver dollar type of eucalyptus, and keep them in a vase or scatter them near the ant infestation. It really works, the ants will be gone in 24 hours! A benevolent solution! It may unfortunately be time to bell the cat, at least in the day time when the birds are out. Stupid rats are mostly nocturnal.

Slow, you have an inspiring attitude. I can't wait to meet you and others in person! Vertigo is coming and going. Mostly morning now which is an improvement. Funthing, big huge hugs. Iammags, rest and take your pain meds. I am loving the natural ant solutions. We get them often. I usually use ant chalk which is boric acid. Have to be careful about kitties and DGS though. We are expecting more rain this afternoon!!

Ladies, I'll be in the tree house for a while... That little pug photo "I can't even" is me right now!!!!
update: Glynn's wife said he had a good first night, but is now already experiencing tingling in feet and hands, and he had water that was a little too cold and he wound up not being able to swallow and tingling in his mouth, so they are being more vigilant in what he eats and drinks... He was a hospice chaplin for 7 years before this, and he knows whatpeople in his situation face... its hard...
As for me, well, waiting to actually talk to my MO... during chemo I got PN in my fingers, balls of feet, and toes. It went away almost totally between last chemo and first Herceptin only. Since then, it comes back, along with fatigue, flu-like symptoms, etc. along the same schedule that it did with chemo... Feel crappy for two weeks then it begins to ease and then it's time for another Herceptin infusion. Problem here is, this time, the PN didn't ease. I still feel crappy, but I just finished rads, so I' thinking that's certainly playing a part in not feeling great, I'm really fatigued, but can feel that part getting a bit better. All the docs look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them about the SEs of Herceptin. Yet, I've "met" so many out here who are experiencing the same things... Then, yesterday's phone call about taking Tamoxifen, not Arimidex, tossed me over... What the crap!?! The CPN asked if I wanted to come in and talk to the APN about it! NO, I want this fixed!!!! Do I want to talk to palliative care about managing the PN, NO!!!! Everyone that's been to them for the same issue says they got put on Gabapentin or another drug.... I don't want more drugs. It's clear that the PN getting worse is the Herceptin. I feel like I reached to point where I'm just the cancer patient cog in the medical wheel...
I'm sorry, I just ugh!!!! I'm so frustrated! Thank God my kids had co-op yesterday because I couldn't stop crying! I'm spent! If I stay on Herceptin that's until early-mid summer... I need to function!
Thanks for being my anchor, crazies!!! I'm tired, I'm scared, I'm spent! I'm sorry for bring you all down... so here's a pic for you, I can't offer positivity right now... but maybe the pic will help you all...

Jersey- sending hugs. Sometimes all of these things just add up and we can't take one more thing. I think for most of us that one more thing was about 50 things ago!
You are not bringing us down. I'm pretty sure you can get a ticket in Crazytown for saying such things haha.
You honor us with your confidence and trust. We in turn then feel comfortable sharing when we are down.
Sending hugs and calming mojo your way. Hopefully when some of the confusion over the med debate abates you will be able to take a mental breather and restore.

PS Jersey- if it's any consolation, I had not had a period in 4 years and believed I was fully menopausal. I was all set mentally (though I didn't get the script quite) to start an AI and my estradiol came back mysteriously high. So He started meon Tamoxifen. It's good that my doctor tested me rather than just taking my word for it.
Our bodies are weird and wonderful (most of the time). We are all different.

Oh Jersey, hugs to you. I told my MO that one of my Herceptin treatments was taxol. He looked at me like I had 3 heads. I had all the same SEs. My husband swears it was also. I had them stop the pre-treatment drugs and just do the Herceptin, for me that helped dramatically. I do hope they are able to figure it all ot for you.
I did get approved for my card and it should be here within 10 days to 2 weeks. More waiting, but the good kind. The laws in AZ do afford some protection to patients, cannot wait until prohibition is over. I am hoping that happens.
Lost a wonderful friend to ALS last night. Her battle has been going for 6 years. She chose hospice on Tuesday and went peacefully surrounded by her family. Cruel disease.
Love you my crazies. No matter where you are hiding out in town...Here are some hugs to share...Nugget and Sampson

Robin- adorable pic. So sorry about your friend. That is very sad. I don't know if you'll be able to get it, but I make a tincture of mj instead of smoking, due to lung issues of an unrelated nature. It's very easy to make. There are videos on youtube. Just the dried herb/weed and grain alchohol steeped cold/room temp for a few weeks. Tastes awful so I put it in a hot choc or something. It metabolizes much more slowly. Much more slowly and lasts longer but you have to be careful not to do too much when you think nothing happens for awhile. When you smoke you get effects within seconds
Tincture can take 1-2 hrs. It also makes a nice topical salve for pain relief. I mix it with coconut oil. Works great and no psychoactive effects. Stains though so watch that.
Here's my two furries together
0 -
Thank you Katy!
Your furbabies are adorable
0 -
Katy and Robin, thanks so much!!!! Here's our furbaby, Shine, she always "smiles" like that when people don't feel good! Katy, that's what happened with my Estradiol...everything else showed menopause, but that number was very high, so no AI... I'm going to talk to the doc about waiting to start a drug until after Herceptin is done...not sure that's going to fly, but that's the only thing that I feel willing to do at this point. I was the queen of goofy side effects during chemo, and rads, I'd rather not add anything to the mix, just take each as another is done...(insert sign) climbing back up to the attic room of Tree House Number 22...

Our Mayor Beppy wanted to see pics of this quilt. It's the biggest one I ever made and one of a very few I didn't give away. Sorry for being a board hog. It's so big I needed to take it in pieces!

note the piano key border. Not complicated, except for the corners, but very time consuming!
