Happy New Year lovelies! Oh, I am just about to start the 3rd and final season of Broadchurch. OMG, the second season was INTENSE!

DH and I are still working on Season 1 of The Crown. He's shared some interesting reminiscences about the "Royals" - particularly being assigned to Princess Margaret when she would go to ballet rehearsals. We'll have to put Broadchurch on our list. DH would probably enjoy it as he used to be a Detective Sergeant and also lived in Dorset at one time.

Lucy - Glad to hear you can start in on the new build. Even though a lot of work/stress, hope you able to "build in" exactly what you want.

Molly - Hope all is well with you and your family. Agree that back to work after these holidays is a drag.

It is snowing, they talk about wind chill numbers, geez, nyc has canceled school today, thar is big deal. I have a big stockpot of black bean sort of chili! Forgot i ran out of chili powder but hey call black bean turkey stew! It tasted good last night and seems just right for today.

Ducky, thank you for sharing the photos of your husband. The vacation photo hits me the hardest. It captures the moment - and it's what I've been trying so hard to do - to keep myself, my husband and my son traveling, doing things and racking up the memories. I worked extra over the holidays and had some nice paychecks so splurged on buying my in laws, my mother, my son and my niece tickets to Disney on Ice for this weekend - bought the good seats too. It's only money...they've all been great stepping up to watch my son and made his Christmas extra wonderful. I'm kinda not happy to be going myself but don't want to spend another 60 bucks a ticket to listen to my husband complain. So he can stay home with me and paint the bedroom LOL!

Ducky ..oh no ..THAT'S certainly cold !!! Does your heating still keep your home cozy warm in those temperatures ?

Iris ..your "blackbean turkey chili-less stew " sounds perfect for the weather your having !!!

7of9..I'm sure your family are very excited about going to Disney on Ice !!! Have fun painting ..I actually LOVE painting ..it's so rewarding looking at the finished job ..

Happy today ..our table tennis organisation starts up again this afternoon , after its Christmas break ..we play 3 times a week ( it's addictive 😃 ) ...!!

Mommy ..everything O.K for you ?

    Hugs to all

Right now I have my heat on 73, and trust me its not cozy......I can feel drafts all over the place.the wind is really strong, and its still snowing....we probablly have about 7 inches on the ground......Jersey Beachs got over a foot....and winds hitting 60/70 miles per hour...calling it blizzard conditions...plus high tide......which is making things worse.......4 of my family have hmes down there....2 sons, a daughter and a grandaughter.....the 2 boys are right at the ocean......I can honestly say for the first time since selling mine this time last year I am glad I did.

It was always a worry everytime a big storm hit, and iwth the pool when the temps dropped you had to worry aout freezing, and popping tiles....it was inground as many of you know.....not to mention pipes freezing etc.....after my husband died less and less kids were going down, and he and I went down every weekend summer and winter......even in the storms.......when his heart stopped, so did the every weekend at the shore.....school/kds/ etc became priority...........

Well this is going to continue for the next 4/5 days, with a low on sunday of -4 degrees.........Lord I just hope the pipes stay in tact.......Phew.....so far so good........hope everyone on the East coast is safe .....hugs

Ducky wow! That’s brutal. I guess I shouldn’t complain of the 11 degrees here. Water running is getting old, we haven’t been above freezing for a week. But... we didn’t get much more than a dusting of snow with this storm. It was actually kind of funny. There was a dry air patch over us and most of the snow over my area never made it to the ground. We will have wind chills in the single digits here, and just going out to put the trash cans out tonite was really cold with the winds. School is out tomorrow due to road conditions so I plan on sleeping in and staying warm inside. Stay safe and warm

Ducky, such a handsome guy, and gone too soon. But you had many loving years together--and look at all those gorgeous kids, grandkids and great-grands! He lives on in them. Our rad-onc dept. didn't have a bell to ring, but they did give me chocolates when I finished. My heat is set to 74, yet in the front room I'm about to put on a robe or hoodie over my long-sleeved top. Not so cold yet that I'd have to switch from boiled-wool clogs to my UGGs.

Iris, all I can figure is that perhaps you are concerned about getting unsolicited advice; or is there someone with her "nose in your business," who is frustrated that she is being ignored (on the outside looking in)?

As to making sure I'm taking the right meds (Rx, OTC, probiotics and supplements) at the right time, every night before bedtime I put out two different shot glasses on the counter, next to a glass of water. The night pills go into the smaller one, the morning ones into the bigger glass. I have the a.m. pills lined up separately from the p.m. ones (and the Rxs in a lockable metal cash box). As I am filling the shot glasses, I eat my fiber and multi-vite gummies. I am such a lazy & undisciplined person that I often have to be anal-retentive about some things, and that's one of them. (The other thing is "a place for everything and everything in its place." I never lose my phone or glasses, though both my guys do fairly often).

TaRenee, you wouldn't happen to be a Warren Zevon fan, would you? I am (one of the bands I was in had quite a few of his songs in our repertoire and I still keep two in rotation), but my late friend Ed was a Zevon fanatic. I took my first trip to London in 1991, and my husband, son and I could not go home without going to Soho and eating at Lee Ho Fook's (yes, it was actually "a thing"). Though we prefer more authentic fare, we had to order at least a small dish of beef chow mein (which is assuredly not authentically Cantonese, at least not the grayish glop over crispy noodles with which we non-Chinese grew up). The waiter rolled his eyes and warned, "If you howl "Ah-WOO" when it arrives, I wlll ask you to leave." (Apparently, it was a rite of passage for Zevon fans back then). I brought home a pair of wrapped chopsticks and a matchbook with the restaurant's name on them, and when I gave them to Ed, his eyes nearly popped out of his head. "You mean it actually exists?" he exclaimed.

Sandy, I am a big Warren Zevon fan, and LOVE your story! :-)

Reminds me of a comparable experience I had with a different medium and venue: when he was a kid my son was a huge Ghostbusters fan. As in, he could recite the entire movie dialogue from memory, pretty much. In fact, he pretty much still can (at the age of 33 :-)). Anyway, when he was nine or ten, and Ghostbusters was all the rage, I took him along on a business trip to New York City. His two major goals were to see the building where much of the filming took place, and to visit the haunted room at the New York Public Library. Well, we hired a cab and went up and down Central Park West looking for the building (never did find it, though I just found it on Google: how DID we survive before the internet?...that cab ride cost me $50, which was a fair amount of money for me in those days (and still is)!)

We did however, see the room at the New York Public Library: in fact when we entered the building, the security guard looked at me, took one look at my son, sighed and pointed, "The Ghostbusters Room is over there.."

Hugs to all and please stay warm and safe, ducky, Iris and all the rest of you on the East Coast!

Soooooo coolllllddddddd.........LOL.........funny story..I ordered a small space heater so I can give my daughter hers back as it now sits under the sink runnng to keep the pipe from freezing, and has worked wonders.....(will thnk that till the electric bill comes in......LOL.....anyway. I get a package today from Lowes’..I” thinking I didn’t order anything from Lowes....I ordersed a space heater but from Amazon...well anyway, Iopen it and it is this space heater that cost $15.95.....the one I ordered was same as my daughters (knew it worked well), but it also cost $49.95....so was wondering....How the hell did I get this thing from Lowe’s which I did not order and is not like my daughters, but my CC was charged $49.95.........

Ok here is the story...checked the “Bill”....the damn thing was ordered by some guy in Massachuttes, named Dewy Diligan, but the address in the “Send column”....was “ME”.......how the hell did I ever get this thing which I never ordered, and some poor guy in New England is freezing his ass off waiting for this to be delivered..........Sorry, I am laughing...but it isn’t funny.........How the hell do you make ;a mistake like that.....not to mention the fact that it is. damn Space heater the guy ordered........

Called Lowe’s they said “don’t worry about it it will cost us more to have you ship it back then it is ‘worth......keep it and we will send another ont to Dewey Diligan............Twilight Zone......and I have not received my $49.95 one yet from Amazon........WTH.........

Lucy, I am positively drooling over those pies!

Octo, when Gordy was little he, too, became a Zevon fan. (The band I was in for 6 years, which formed when he was 18 months old, played so many Zevon songs we seriously considered calling ourselves "Lawyers, Guns & Money," since two of us were lawyers and one was a currency-futures trader, but the "guns" part was a nonstarter). His favorite Zevon song was "Excitable Boy" (which these days is definitely socio-politically, um, tone-deaf). We took him to a couple of Zevon concerts, at age four and six. At the second one at the Riviera theater one neighborhood south of us, we were sitting at a balcony table when he called over a security guy wearing an "all-access" pass, and handed him a note he'd scrawled on a cocktail napkin: "My name is Gordy. I am six. Please play Excitable Boy." He asked him to give the note to Zevon. About 10 minutes later, the guard came back and said "Mr. Zevon said to tell you he is glad you're a fan, but he no longer plays that song because it's hurtful; but he will play you one you'll like." Sure enough, toward the end of his set, Zevon exclaimed, "This one's for my man Gordy," and launched into "Boom Boom Mancini." Gordy was over the moon for days.

On my duo's next CD (over)due out this spring, we've recorded "Keep Me in Your Heart For Awhile." (Took us three years to clear the copyright--apparently nobody had covered it before so it wasn't in the Harry Fox Org. database and we had to ask if we could buy a license. Jorge Calderon came through for his half right away, but it took some serious sleuthing to find who administered Zevon's estate's publishing, and an intermediary agency to negotiate even a 2000-copy license, since the publisher normally doesn't get out of bed for fewer than 5000 copies. We probably won't press more than 1000). Stephen sings lead on the verses & bridge, I on the chorus, and play the mandolin solo on 6-string baritone dulcimer. Once it's released, I'll put up a link so you can stream it from my website.

sandy, i can imagine your sons reaction as a 6 year old, over the moon, sure that is an understatement. Rumor on weather guys is tomorrow we will be on a warming trend. Looking forward to that. Can you believe, i once moved breifly to minn. I sort of think i would not have fit there!
